Lakeview District BLM to Conduct Aerial Herbicide Applications
Lakeview, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lakeview District will be performing aerial herbicide applications across 8,622 acres of the 2020 Brattain Fire starting April 12, 2021, and is expected to be completed by April 24, depending on weather conditions.
The BLM is spraying the Brattain Fire area to control and prevent invasions of invasive annual grasses. The non-native annual grasses out complete native species by germinating early and taking available nutrients and water in the soil. Controlling the annual grasses will allow the native plants to rehabilitate without competition.
Maps will be posted along the main roads entering the project areas. Treatments will take up to two weeks for implementation and are dependent upon weather conditions. We ask that people and pets avoid camping or traveling through the treated areas during this time to allow aerial applicators to accomplish treatments in a safe and timely fashion.
