Wisconsin swimmers should stay out of Lake Michigan Tuesday and early Wednesday because high waves and strong winds will make for dangerous conditions, the National Weather Service said.
Beaches in Racine, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Manitowoc and Kewaunee counties have a high swim risk, according to the weather service. Kenosha County beaches have a moderate swim risk.
"A strong cold front will surge down Lake Michigan this afternoon, resulting in rapidly building waves and onshore winds along the Lake Michigan shoreline," the weather service said in a statement.
Northeasterly winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected to start mid-afternoon along with the cold front, which likely will bring thunderstorms as well.
