“I think it’s important that people start to wake up and realize that municipal politics is super important,” said Dechene. “So I’ve always tried to approach writing about it with a certain degree of irreverence, and attempts at humour, whether or not they’re successful.”
Though Dechene spent his early childhood in Kitchener, Ont., he’s essentially a Westerner. His family moved to Calgary during an oil boom that quickly ran out. He wound up in Edmonton.
After an English degree and stints in Ottawa, Vancouver and Waterloo, Dechene followed his professor wife to Regina around 2008. He soon found his niche.
