They started organizing earlier this week online talked about want to go get together to do something to show solidarity with all those young people across the country that have been speaking up against gun violence since the massacre in park land, florida. Now, theyre holding these white signs and each of those signs is an event, mass shooting event from january of last year until present day. And so theyre lining the walkway here reminding all the other students and bringing awareness to the fact that its not just one of them. These are events that keep happening over and over again. In fact, little bit theyre going to have a moment of silence for each victim that has died since january of last year in mass shooting events. Theyll hold 497 seconds of silence more than eight minutes and i talked to some of the student leader as little while ago about why theyre so passionate at this time about making a stand. I think for young people it can be really frustrating, it can be hard because youre up against a lot of power, a lot of money, and especially for kids under the age of 18 you dont really have any power in politics, um, but i think the the survivors the teenagers in florida showing us that by going to tal mass has see and demanding answers from their elected figures just because theyre young people, thecal still have to be listened to regardless. Reporter one of thingso me i was talking to some of the student leaders they said, all throughout high school and even younger, they grew up in this culture of being prepared for active shooters. They had to do active shooter drills all the time growing up through school and i can remember my own growing up during the time of columbine being in high school that being such a new thing but this is the norm for a lot of these people that are now in college and younger. So they want to speak up. They want to make sure that legislators state level and at the federal level know where they stand and thats for change and so well be here for little bit. This protest will continue for the next half hour or so. Were live at the campus at pe penn. Cleve bryan cbs3 Eyewitness News. Definitely interesting perspective there, cleve. Thank you. Katie joining us now. It seems like it was just yesterday it was so beautiful out. In fact it was. In fact it was. [ laughter ] yes. My gosh talk about what a difference even just 24 hours can make. Were talking about 35degree drop off just from yesterday afternoon. Oh boy. To this afternoon wait until you see the 24 hour departure. Oh no. Its incredible. Nothing, you know, that weve never seep before. But we do have some alltime record warmth we were able to set yesterday in a couple of towns which well get to. Lets start things by taking a view who high a top Hotel Bethlehem overlooking a very dreary beginning to the afternoon northa northampton con bethlehem we overlook main street. The traffic moving kind of slow. I would not be shocked if thats due to the rain moving that was here. Take look at the radar in a second lets go back in time and recall what that warmth was all about yesterday. Now this is not just daily records were talking about but allentown reading and trenton you had all time record warmth for the month of february. In all three cities the numbers orange was hit yesterday. 82 degrees in reading pa yesterday. Again, thats a new one for the books. For all time record warmth in the month. Now, heres that hurts to look at difference in the last 24 hours at least 20 degrees but even more than that out towards reading, up to where you were in to the 80s yesterday. Wire not coming anywhere close to that at this pope these are actual temperatures. 39 from 82 degrees. Tough stuff. But that temperature likely to om drop off simply because were still waiting for the really cold air to come in here many youre still at 50 degrees in millville as the cold is still penetrating our region you can see where the front has lined up very very well here. In birmingham its 77. Nashville its 20 degrees colder. So thats where that temperature is beginning to fall off as the colder air moves in. Youve also got wet weather to go along with it when you look at this wide zoom theres a couple of things to notice. Heres the cold front still trying to move through in our area but theres a new system already and its heels getting its act. Basically what happens is you have this Conveyor Belt in short that starts to pick up with front after front system after system moving through today. Today its technically a cold front. Come friday its technically a warm front that brings in the rain and then come this weekend, another system is still trying to push through. You basically have waves of low pressure moving along whats essentially a stationary frontal boundary that will just keep things very unsettled here locally right through the weekend. Then finally that giant h that mix so happy to see that moves back in High Pressure in short that will eventually bring back the sunshine but it had take couple of days. Now, storm scan locally is primarily just smattering very light showers here and there. You go far enough north you see a little pink right on the tail end of that loop up in Carbon County because the air is turning cold enough later and today with temperatures just continue to go drop off, theres actually Winter Weather advisory that goes into effect at 4 00 p. M. After coming such a warm afternoon yesterday. Goes to show how things can really change on a dime for us but that Winter Weather advisory is posted for carbon, monroe the rest of the poconos. Headed up that way watch for slick travel. Sleet and freezing rain the primary issue there so there could be a glaze of ice on the roads. Now, overlooking Center City Philadelphia let me step over here you can still well, just barely make it out. Its somewhere there in the haze. Visible may be reduced out the there. Certainly if youre driving through the rain that will slow you down too. When we look at the seven day, okay, so the temperatures are kind of all over the place you do do eventually warm up right through sunday rain is in our forecast. As i mentioned earlier in the show i do think youll see the wettest time frame especially saturday night into the first half of sunday. But sunday is mild day at least. And then the sun comes back in time for all us to head back to work and school on monday. Great timing. Hard to believe its been two weeks since the Philadelphia Eagles paraded down broad street as super bowl champions.
