Good morning. Doing well, thank you. Obviously bumps and bruises is one thing but how do you know when something is more serious and need attention. First of all, change of behavior, are they limping, acting different, has their performance change. If you are looking for swelling, bruising. If a hit their head or deceleration injury where they hit the ground quickly do they seem, not following instructions. So, any bleeding. Any type of neck trauma we look forehead trauma we will look for that, any limping. You know, okay. We have to pull them out. Make sure they are okay. What are some things to cut back on injuries, preventively on the field. Well, most of them is before they go out there make sure they warm up, right. You are a runner. You warm up. Warm up to the specific type of motions. If you a swimmer warm up certain ways, soccer certain ways. Know how to play the game. Know the rules. And you go in the Swimming Pool if you didnt necessity how to swim. I dont want someone playing soccer, baseball, football if they dont know rules or technique. It is for safety. Proper equipment. Consume are Products Safety Commission certifies certain equipment. Make sure it fits, size specific and age specific and is certified. You want to make sure when you are playing out there for safety that you know the rules of the game, also that the field is smooth, and you want to make sure too certain things that you stay hydrated out there it is so important to be hydrated. All these things are key, to be safe out on the field. A lot of the kid, they want to work through this stuff. Its like suck it up, ill get through this. That can cause major problems down the road. It can. Oh, you know, you have to win but no you want to have fun and you dont work through pain. Dont work through injuries. If you are feeling hurt, that is your body signs to come out shinsplints runners get that a lot. I will be okay, run through it that is your body way of saying you have an injury, back off, let it heel. So many kid get reuse injury syndrome where they have not healed properly. Their bones are growing. Ligaments, muscles growing f we dent take care at a young age they will have chronic problems later on. Doctor rob if you dont necessarily have a injury that requires immediate attention lets talk about ways to treat an injury at home, ice pack, heating pack, those sorts of things. First of all get off, stop the activity, elevate it if you have any type of swelling for a joint. Put cold compresses on and many put ice right on the scene but then get ice burn. Cool compresses for 10 minutes check with the doctors if there is any bleeding or swelling or pain you want to check. Get off of it, elevate it. We use wraps. That is best thing. Then see how it does over next 24 hours. If you continue to have pain you have to get it check. Any other advice for parents and coaches. Have fun some times kid are pushed, pushed, win all. It is about having fun. Being safe. And learning to play as part of the team and having a spirit in activity. Please dont put pressure on the kid. They are in the professionals. They are growing athletes. Dont play an eight yearold with a 16 yearold. That is where injuries occur. Age specific activity in a safe manner. Thanks doctor, rob.
