After a full day of working to try to get to her family members further inland and we are very excited to tell you that alycia has reconnected with her great grandmother. Shes sharing her story. Reporter puerto rico is an island devastated and nearly decimated after Hurricane Maria hit it nearly two weeks ago. Millions of u. S. Citizens have been here without power water and communication since. We came here two days ago to try and go to parts that were hardest hit and reconnect some on the island with their loved ones in the greater philadelphia area. We continue that Mission Today except this time it was personal. My photographer and i headed to find my 95yearold great grandmother salvadora. 20 minutes towards our drive we havent had much of a problem getting there. The closer we get im a little nervous if all of the roads where my family live will be open and well be able to get through. The normally 45 minute drive took two hours. Roads werent blocked by fallen trees but street signs were all knocked down. [speaking foreign language] reporter we had to stop three times for directions and even call my family in new york on a Satellite Phone to get help. Going towards, 11, right . I worried this wasnt going to happen. One left turn after that call and we were in front of her home. With food and if some supplies in hand, i rushed to her. [speaking foreign language] reporter i felt like i could hardly breathe. With one hug and her smile, the stress that id been carrying for weeks went away. Once she told me that she was okay i wanted her to be able to tell my family that herself. We had to go outside for the Satellite Phone to work and for the first time in 11 days, i could help my grandmother. [speaking foreign language] reporter hear her mothers voice. [speaking foreign language] reporter for five minutes she stayed strong kept a smile on her face reassuring us that through god she is safe. [speaking foreign language] reporter i didnt have to ask my great grandmother salvadora how much that call meant. We could all tell by her face. I spent a total of an hour with her. Tambien. Reporter she told me how in nearly the century she had lived on this island she had weathered storms but nothing like Hurricane Maria. Before we had to go i took this photo with her to remember and forever cherish this opportunity to be able do my job here and still make sure my family is okay. I reached out to our Dance Community and they donated their time today. Reporter for a 25 donation people could attend a wide variety of dance classes all day long and at the same time people dropped off cases of water, canned food and more that the dance studio is sending in a shipping container to puerto rico. It makes it feel like were working together. Everybody has it in their heart they want to to something but people dont know how to do something and were telling people if you could just come down and bring us a case of water, bring us deodorant or something, youre being a part of the solution and were helping people. Cleve bryan Eyewitness News. Philadelphia police are looking for the gunman who critically wounded a man in east germantown. The shooting happened at germantown and abbottsford just about 1 oclock this morning. Police say the 20yearold victim was shot in the head and leg. Eyewitnesses told investigators they saw at least three men running from that seen. Abington Police Investigating a deadly fall at lorimer park. A man accidentally fell from a 50foot rock cliff near the main entrance along morton road. The cliff overlooks pennypack creek. Police were called to that scene after the victims body was discovered in the creek about 10 oclock this morning. Investigators say the victim is 57 years old. His name hasnt been released just yet. Philadelphia Police Searching for the person who fired a bullet that struck a sixyearold little boy. This happened at 24th and norris in north philly last night. Police say the bullet traveled a block or sole, it hit jayden cisco in the shoulder. He was standing outside of his grandmothers home with his father and brother at the time. Right now jayden is recovering at saint christophers hospital. They have to wait until the swelling go down to see if they can take the bullet out. Its kind of hard for a little child. Whew. Cbs news correspondent Roxana Saberi looks back at his life and legacy. Reporter monty hall gave away cars crash and other prizes as americas original deal maker. You have to love your audience. You have to show them that you love them. Reporter he hosted the hit game show lets make a deal for 20 years and often left contestants guessing whether they scored a pricey prize or useless clunker. Hall helped make those gags or zonks as he called them a staple of the show. He was born in canada in 1921 as monty hal perrin. While working as a disk jockeys in the 40s his bosses pushed him to change his name. About a decade later hall crossed the border to new york where he continued in radio and hosted childrens tv shows. But it was the 1963 debut of lets make a deal that launched halls tenure as one of americas enduring game show hosts. We were thrown into a time period that was a loser and the network said well if you want it you can have it but no show succeeded in this time period and we said well take it and of course the rest is history. Reporter he was also the shows cocreator. Lets make a deal went on for decades bouncing between networks. The show returned to daytime tv in 2009 on cbs with wayne brady as host. Ladies and gentlemen, monty hall. Reporter but hall was hired as a consultant and occasionally made guest appearances. Look at the wind direction, coming out of the north so helping to pull in some of that chillier air thats going to be in place overnight and really throughout the rest of the weekend but notice the winds have subsided compared to where they were earlier today.
