What police say happened during several attempted abductions. And hurricane jose heads north. But were already feeling the effect down the shore. Today is saturday, september 16, im scan car barrow, right over to meteorologist, Matt Peterson with eyewitness weather. Good saturday morning, matt, we are tracking jose, now a hurricane possibly headed our way. Three days away from when it will be offer the coastline hereof new jersey, so keeping an eye on it. Right now, kind of depends, it was tracking little bit further west, which means it was getting little closer to the coastline, at times yesterday, but overnight, as it strengthened, it is now pushed out little further back so thats some good news for us. We hope that the trends ask are hoping less and less as we get into next week. We need to talk about this morning, as well, thats dense fog thats developed. On this saturday morning, you take a look at the Neighborhood Network camera here. This is up from broadheads ville, 65 degrees, warm morning for us, especially for the middle of september. We have no breeze. Right there, you see our west northwest wind coming in at zero. So very, very light. It is a little bit muggy so add the factors, it will allow fog to develop. If you are out and becomes definitely notice it, specially areas back down there, near the shore, and into the Lehigh Valley. Where we have less than mile visibility. From millville back to the a. C. Airport, also in reading, only have half mile visibility now, here in philly itself, reporting clearer skies. So thats some good news for us, but again, if you are traveling outside of the center city area, you can still run into some patchy dense fog, be careful out on the area roads here this morning. Temperatures, for the most part, are above average, we see those, allentown at 63 to start the day out, here in philly, 69. Mild morning. Compare this to 24 hours ago, very similar. And that means we will be looking for very similar afternoon. Check out the High Temperature for today. We will be peaking right around eight a degrees later this afternoon, jan, and of course as i said talking little more jose in just a bit eight a degrees, matt, i like it, summer sticking around. You got it. Absolutely. Time 6 03, time to check the roads. Lets go over to kyle hawn in the cbs3 traffic center. Hi, kyle. Good morning, jan, as far as im concern, we dont have any major crashes to report at this time. But we do have a major closure taking place on mlk drive between Strawberry Mansion bridge and Spring Garden street from 5 00 a. M. To 10 00 e rockandroll marathon, and that road will also remain closed as well from bun p. M. To 5 00 p. M. For recreational activities. Take a look at travel times. As you can see, little bit of volume building up on the schuylkill. Thats due to overnight construction taking place. But outside that far all of the other majors look clean, green, making your commute in and out of the city. In the cbs3 traffic center, im kyle hawn, jan, back to you. All right, kyle, thank you. Well, activists plan more demonstrations in st. Louis today, after the acquittal of white Police Officer in the shooting death of an africanamerican man. As Chris Martinez reports, what began as a peaceful protest overnight, got out of hands. Tear gas, and protesters broke windows, and through red paint on mayors house, police were finally able to push them back. Theyre shooting death after black man. I believe black lives matter. Obviously, our system does not believe that. Multiple cameras caught the high speed chase and collision involving former st. Louis patrolman jason stockily, and suspected drug dealer lamar smith stockily said he shot smith in selfdefense claiming smith was pulling a gun on him but, prosecutors say stockily got a gun from the back seat of his cruiser and planted it in smiths car, after shooting him. The judge said he was not convinced of stockilys guilt. At the end of the day, the court applied the right standard, to the fact, and they came up with the right conclusion. Protesters disagreed, and some say theyll keep at it until their voices are heard. Im time and time and time again, were called for justice, called for peace, called for, you know, reform. And every time we have been, you know, weve been disregarded. At least two Police Officers were treated for injuries after being hit by bricks friday night. Chris martinez for cbs3 Eyewitness News. Still ahead right here on cbs3 Eyewitness News this saturday morning, october fest in philadelphia. Well, it is september, but october fest is kicking off. Im anita oh, live at frankford hall, next the fun festivities and the unique drinks you can change of seasons week away , one philadelphia neighborhood ready to celebrate with october fest. Anita oh, live in fishtown this morning where the block party gets underway in just a few hours, what a fun assignment, anita, good morning. Good morning bt the assignment we love, a long day of fun ahead. Already this morning, block off the streets, you can see, that theyve some trucks pulling in, getting ready for this exciting day where theyre celebrating october fest. Joining me now, general manager of frankford hall, josh, who is decked out in a really cool outfit. So josh, explain what fun festivities people can expect here today for the sixth annual year . Yes, our sixth year doing it, as you can see, preparations are furiously underway. One giant tent, food coming in , weaver seating for about a thousand people, pretty much if you take one of the festival tents from october fest, beautiful fest grounds in munich, germany, planted this right here in fishtown, thats what were trying to do , trying to get the best parts of the party, the people , the singing, the dancing, just plant it right here on frankford avenue. Sounds like so much fun. So of course, these are the items of the hour, the items of the day. Can you explain what we are looking at . And what people can expect to be drinking here this special today . Sure, the star of the show today are these giant liter beers. This is what people come for. Well have lot of october fest specific seasonal october fest beers available today, well have dozen end beers on tap outside on the street, under the tent, 15 beers inside, tons of food options, giant pretzels, because you cant have a giant beer without a giant pretzel. Thats right. It is 5 00 somewhere, right . So lets talk about our outfit , as well there is traditional garb. What kind of traditional . Somewhat traditional. Perfect mix of germany and philly, i guess, with the traditional, who doesnt love wearing leather short at 6 00 in the morning, and our festival tshirt which is on sale and proceeds benefit the Fishtown Neighbors Association fantastic. So it is very fitting because this is a unique kind of style that you have put together. So what makes this october fest stands out from all of the other october fesses that are happening across the city and around the worlds . Just i guess just like this outfit, a mix of traditional, and essentially philly, taking all of the best parts of the party that happen in germany, and were throwing that party here in fishtown. So, you know, not trying to recreate you know the exactly what happens in germany. But were taking the music, and the people having a great time, and singing and dance willing, and comradery, energy of the crowd, throwing that here right on the street. Excellent, thank you so much. Philly twist putting our twist on everything, thats how we do it. So if you want to come on down , the festive tis begin at noon, and will end the a 10 00 all across the street here, so you have plenty of time to get on down here later this morning, and early afternoon, pay as go, feel free to come on down. Live at frankford hall, anita oh, Eyewitness News, back to you. You said it it is 5 00 somewhere. It is actually technically 6 16, just saying. Absolutely. Thank you, anita. Thats taking notes, matt want to get throughout to this great day to go to the october fest. Matt . Really looks like our weather here across philly will be great, if youre under the tent youll be out of the sun. Doesnt look like we will have any real shower chances, couple of spotty ones possible here or there, but not wash out after day. So planning on get being outside, later this afternoon, youll definitely be able to enjoy yourself. Machines warm and muggy, and thats what eyewitness weather watchers are talking about, 06 n in wilmington, in newark, i should say, at dolores house, relatively clear skies. Thats not the case for everybody else, sitting at 06 degrees, eds house at 64 this morning, hes in chesterfields, also, with a little bit after clear sky. But also little bit of fog thats developed, across the area. Just real quick, there is some good pictures out there. I wanted to show this one. This is from phil yesterday. Always nice when i can talk about boat house row, one of the favorite spots, kelly drive, boat house row. So great day yesterday. Really looks like today should be pretty nice as well. We will take a trip down to the tropics first, after we take a look whats going on on our skycam here this morning, as well, this is cape may, or ocean sit, and you cannot even see the boardwalk. It is a very foggy morning, if youre down beach, or if youre even up into the Lehigh Valley, very foggy start to the day. So again, while dealing with the fog here early on on our weekend, our eyes are turning to the tropics, because that is when, or thats where jose is, thats what we will be watching through the weekends, and into early next week. So, now, right now, it is churning out there. In the atlantic ocean, not affecting any lands at this point. About 500 miles from cape hatteras, and also, 500 miles from bermuda, which is right up here. So again, far away from any land that we really would need to be worried about. But it is going to start to make its northward turn, kind of already started to do that, and as it does, it potentially could affect the jersey shore maybe the delaware shore point , then up into new england. Now thats not the only thing that we are watching in the tropics. Of course, jose, right, there but also tropical depression 14, which we will keep an eye on there is could become tropical system lee, if it does become named, another tropical wave continuing to track westwards toward some of the caribbean islands, this is about 90 chance to develop into a tropical depression, as we go through the next two, five days. So we have a lot of active pattern here, continuing out in the tropics. So were not done with the season just yet. In fact, still in the peak time of the season. As we get a look at the computer models for hurricane jose, it is going to again make that northerly turn, and the good news with us here, yesterday the computer models were actually kind of pushing it a little further to the west, so closer to the coastline, but overnight, and now into this morning, our computer mod rest getting little more bunched together. Our confidence is getting higher, also seeing them move a little bit further out to sea. Further east they track, the lessee expect along the new jerseydelaware coastline. Stats for category one storm, 08mile per hour sustained winds, jose; and just about 500 miles away from cape hatteras, at this point. Here is the track for it. We see by tuesday morning, 2 00 in the morning, just off the outer banks. And then it get little closer to the delaware and new jersey shore point, as we get to about midday or so on tuesday, then into the afternoon. But we look at the cone here. We see that there is a pretty wide range. If the track tracks a little bit further to the west, it could again give us more impact along the eastern seaboard, but again, those models that are starting to track a little further out to sea, good news, if it ends up out here little further to the east, that means that the effect are going to be little bit less. Right now our biggest impact are going to be some high surf , the rip currents risk that we have this weekend, and into early next week. So down the shore, do be careful, rain, winds, along the coastline, potential problem. We could be looking for some strong almost tropical force winds. Beach errosion, inland, some coastal flooding, could be an issue, inland looking for more along the lines every maybe just a shower or maybe an isolated thunderstorm, as the tropical system tracks close to us, in the part of neck week. Weekends eightyfive today, 83 tomorrow, warm, muggy, throwing in a shower maybe an isolated rumble every thunder chance both saturday, sunday, not wash out, definitely dont need to cancel your outdoor plans, just keep eye to the sky. Shower chance for us monday, jan, 77 on tuesday, again, thats our tropical moisture from jose. Then we get warm, but we clear things out for wednesday, thursday and friday next week. Look at all of the sun, matt. I know, we got to soak it up. Thank you. Still ahead on Eyewitness News action packed thriller hit the box office. We do have some fog thats developed across the area here early on, on our saturday, as well, for the most part, down the shore, and up to the Lehigh Valley, not so much here in center sit at this self. Take a look at the Neighborhood Network. Margate looking out, we should be able to see the water but you cant even see the water. All you see is just the sands. Then of course those gray skies. And all of the fog thats developed. Down near margate here early on, on this saturday morning, if you are out and about, to start the day, heres what youre dealing with visibility wise, see very limited from lancaster up through reading, allentown, through the Lehigh Valley on the limited side of things, then of course back down through the pine barons, towards the shore, as well, see less than mile visibility. Wilmington, philly, trenton looking at pretty much almost perfect driving conditions, perfect Visibility Conditions there, so dont be surprised, though, just outside of wilmington, just outside every fill our even just little bit outside of trenton you are running into the patchy dense fog, even though the visibility in some of the larger areas are a little bit better. Temperatures for the most part are very mild. Theyre above average. Sitting in the 60s only one spot mount pocono comes in at 56. Sixtynine here in philly. It is 66 as we kick off our morning, in dover. So definately not sweatshirt morning, to say the least. 9 00 a. M. , we get to up about 73 degrees, we go with the mix of sun and clouds through pretty much the entirety of the day. Top out at 85 degrees, could see maybe a small shower chance or isolated rumble every thunder, jan, at time, we get to the second half of the afternoon maybe into the early evening as well, of course tracking jose, when the effect of that could be felt here closer to home. Ill talk about that whether we get inside. Matt, thank you. Now 6 32, time to check the roads, so over to kyle hawn in the cbs3 traffic center, hi, kyle. And also, sent in great picture from his home there in chesterfield, so overall, it is a little, again, on the foggy side here early on, check out some of the temperatures, theyre in the 60s for the most part. Lets set up real quickly north of the city. 69 degrees, there you go, 59 degrees this morning at eileens house up in gilbertsville, few more extra clouds, but no real fock getting reported at this time. Still again little bit. Again fog the main concern, outside currently in few areas it is a little bit better than others, this is coming in for the poconos, eyewitness skycam , live picture again, we see the low hanging clouds. Still have the pink, the orange, getting up and looking out the window but patchy dense fog could cause issues as you drive around. So do be careful around Lehigh Valley and the shore points, shore also not just dealing with fog early in the day. Concerned about Tropical Storm jose, as well, coming in at category one, 08mile per hour sustained winds. Right now not affecting lands, about 500 miles away from bermuda, a to up 500 miles from cape haterus. Out in the open ocean. Good news, but unfortunately, as this makes its northerly turn, it is going to track toward northeast, our cone of uncertainty, looking here from all the way over here toward the eastern seaboard tracking out to sea, thats good news, the effect along the jersey shore, delaware, back up toward new york and new england are going to be less, how much, there are still couple of models that push it little closer to the lands. So that means still going to be keeping an eye on this for the weekends, early next week, hopefully see this track little further away from the coastline, as we get into early next week. In general, impacts will look like this, rough surf already seeing down at the beach, and those strong rip current. If youre down the beach this weekend, do be careful if youre in the water. Overall, rain and winds along the coast is something that we are probably going to see early next week corks lead to possible beach errosion, and the potential for some coastal flooding, little further inland toward philly and again areas that are even beyond us looks like just shopping showers maybe isolated. Not much happening on storm scan3, few areas of pop up showers are out there later this afternoon. Little fog develops tonight into tomorrow. It looks like our best chance for showers on sunday are going to stay north, and west, of the city, we will probably go with clearer conditions across philly itself. And very similar pattern, setting up for monday, as well so eight a for High Temperature today, up to 83 tomorrow. So it is warm, little muggy over the weekend, 80 monday. Best chance for showers clears out nicely, i know youll like that wednesday, thursday, friday forecast. Im liking it all actually matt. Story every friendship and the importance of medical research. Keep our fingers crossed this fog clears out of here early this morning, allow the sunshine to come in this afternoon. I think thats whats going to happen, probably before we know it the fog will start to kind of burn off, especially the areas down near the shore, up through the Lehigh Valley little more dense. But everywhere youre out and about here today, just be careful early on, on the roads , because of the patchy dense fog, later this afternoon we go with mix of sun and clouds, overall warm, muggy day, much mover reminiscent what we would expect really kind of in august, than what we should get in the middle of september with eight a degrees, and the higher humidity, pop up shower , maybe, an isolated pop up rumble every thunder second half of the afternoon toward evening, not ruled out. Doesnt look like it will be a washout after day. Dont cancel afternoon plans, 83 sunday, again, very similar pattern setting up, maybe the small chance for afternoon pop up shower or so. Then 80 monday. Jan, finally get moisture, looks like, from jose, as it tracks off the coastline thereon tuesday. And then it clears out nicely, wednesday, thursday, friday.
