A summertime threat west nile virus has been detected in two people in our area and infect mosquitoes are now widespread. Health report arer Stephanie Stahl joins with us more on the virus, stephanie. Reporter pennsylvania has its first case of west nile virus in a 17 yearold woman and a six yearold little girl has also tested positive in sussex county, delaware. The summer pests are out in full force, mosquitoes thrive in hot, moist air, august being prime time. They bring not only itching by the but potentially west nile virus. Testing around the region show virus infected mosquitoes have been located around our area. Pennsylvania Pennsylvania Health department says, that positive samples, shown in red have been found, throughout the the southeastern part of the state, and in new jersey, the the Health Department there says that the virus has been found in most counties. Nationwide, nearly 40 people have contracted the virus, two locally, symptoms include fever, headache, body aches and fatigue. That occurred in 20 percent of the people who get bitten by the infected mosquitoes. Everybody doesnt get sick, 1 percent get most serious complications, or this kind of paralyzing illness that can be long lasting.
