That story is developing in north philadelphia. Where Police Believe that victim is an innocent bystander. Justin finch live for us at Police Headquarters with the latest on that story, justin . Reporter nicole, erika good morning and what a scare for this driver. Shot while behind the wheel she had two friends in the car with her they were not hit but now, they are being questioned by detective as their friends recovers in the hospital. Shes very, very fortunate. Behind the wheel of this mazda sedan by the corner of 17th and diamond Streets Police say a woman felt a sharp pain in her back, about 11 00 last night. That pain was a gunshot wound. She was taken to Temple University hospital. Although she was shot in the back, they say, she was able to move her arms and her legs and she was conscious. So it doesnt appear that there is any paralysis. Two other women were also in the car. One, sitting up front, the other, in a back seat. The bullet passed through the back seat, traveled to the front seat, went through the back of the front seat, striking our 32 year old driver. The rear seat passenger is very lucky because the female was sitting on the passenger side in the rear seat. Had she had been sitting on the driver side, she would have been shot in the back. Philadelphia police dont believe the car was the target. Instead, they believe it was struck once by a stray bullet, as it made a left onto 17th. From susquehanna avenue, thats where the women say they heard gunshots and where police may have uncovered a motive. We found ten spent shell casings on the sidewalk at the intersection of 17th and susquehanna. Also, we found a small bag containing several vials of what appears to be crack cocaine. So the shooting or the shooter may have been involved in some sort of drugrelated altercation. And of course, this case remains under investigation this morning. Police do believe those shots were fired by a semiautomatic gun. They are also now trying to track down Surveillance Video to make out the shooting and perhaps the shooter as well. And at this point that driver is well on her way to a pretty miraculous recovery, police say, so thats pretty good news for us, as well. Erika Philadelphia Police are also looking into the death after recent drexel graduate. The woman was found dead in her third floor apartment on south 50th street in west philadelphia. Police identify the victim as 27 year old jasmine write. They say she was severely beaten possibly strangled. Neighbors say theyre shocked by this, they describe the victim as friendly woman who kept to herself. She was a very nice girl. Would just come and go. And it is sad. It is sad. And it was so cold. I was positive i was going to die of hypothermia especially the second day. She tried to wave down search helicopters. It was very frustrated. They were flying directly over me.
