Later on this evening after sunset i think were looking pretty good. Still some clouds around but those clouds will thin out as we head into the late nighttime hours. Look at the temperatures, though. These were the highs today. Much cooler because of the clouds and the showers. Only 73 degrees this afternoon in reading. 75 allentown low 80s though in south jersey. Saw a little bit of sunshine especially in the morning. Heres where we stand right now. 60s in reading. Right now 75 in philadelphia. So somewhat on the cooler side tonight. Breeze off the Atlantic Ocean keeping the coastal temperatures a little on the cooler side. That ocean at 74. Thats pretty much what the air temperature is going to be this evening. Humidity still on the higher side. Dewpoint temperatures pretty high. Were in the low to mid 60s in some spots indicating a very humid air mass. Later tonight philadelphia the big show 70 degrees, so it will be warm drying out so looks like no threat of rain, just a few clouds around. Lots of sunshine returns for your sunday. Get outside if you can and enjoy it, 87 for a high for philadelphia, not a bad beach day at the shore upper 70s, the poconos also looking good, lots of sunshine, highs there in the upper 70s as well. Also today a big fourth of July Celebration where it all began right here at independence hall. At the celebration of freedom ceremony the crowd enjoyed patriotic music and listened to readings of the declaration of independence. This years ceremony commemorated other important milestones as well including the 50th anniversary of the first major lgbt protest in the u. S. Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter addressed the crowd. Philadelphia police make an arrest in the killing of an elderly East Mount Airy woman. Homicide detectives held a News Conference late this afternoon at police headquarters. That is where Eyewitness News reporter Steve Patterson joins us now live with the details. Steve. Reporter natasha, at that conference Philadelphia Police announce the arrest of 37yearold leroy wilson and say that wilson was a trusted member of his community let into several homes in order to do odd jobs and handiwork and that that trust extended to the home of the victim. This is his reputation. Neighbors knew leroy the handyman who had done work for several neighbors in the area. Reporter trusted welcomed, nicknamed out of respect, now accused of murder. Police say the alias far from the only truth. Leroy wilson, a 37yearold male with a violent and lengthy criminal history. Reporter saturday on a holiday, Philadelphia Police announcing the capture and charges against wilson for the murder of 85yearold regina brunner. We are very sure we have the can killer upstairs. Hes talking to us now. Reporter Police Believe leroy the handyman was doing work for brunner that he visited her home sunday night that in the course of stealing items from brunner homes seen the Senior Citizen caught him. We recovered several items. We recovered obviously the vehicle on stillman. We recovered the laptop from revere street and we recovered some other items but all of these things trace back to our killer. Reporter this week investigators traced those stolen items back to wilson and executed search warrants to tie it altogether completing a time line in time for a fourth of july capture. They had vowed that even though this being the Holiday Weekend, that they were not going to take time off until they brought this individual to justice and they did that in a very timely fashion and im very very proud of them. Reporter police say wilson has an extensive history of criminal violence both here in philadelphia and in florida and that he may be responsible for other crimes and thefts in the area. All right steve thank you so much. Also two Camden CountyPolice Officers are on leave tonight after a deadly officerinvolved shooting. It happened late last night in the cramer hill neighborhood of east camden. Officers responded to reports of a man with a gun at the corner of bergen and harrison avenues. When they arrived officers say the man pointed a loaded weapon at them, so they opened fire. An independent investigation will be conducted as a standard procedure in cases like this. Camden county police say this is the first officerinvolved shooting in the departments 26 month history. Also a man suspected of shooting a Camden CountyPolice Officer is in custody tonight. Police arrested Victor Bennett in collingswood on friday after a brief foot chase. Investigators say bennett shot a Police Officer in the arm in camden on wednesday night. That officer is expected to recover. An overnight gun battle in university city. Critically injures two people. It happened on the 3500 block of samson street when police say gunfire erupted between several people shortly after 1 30 a. M. One witness surrendered his gun and told police that he exchanged gunfire with the suspect. Police are searching for two other male suspects at this point both between the ages of 21 and 30. And a crash on the roosevelt boulevard leaves a teenager dead and another man in critical condition. Eyewitness news at adams avenue in lawncrest. Police say the 19yearold lost control of his car and hit a tree at about 3 oclock this morning. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene. His passenger a 53yearold man was rushed to the hospital with a crushed leg a broken arm and a head injury. Hes currently in critical condition. While millions of americans meantime they gather tonight for fourth of July Celebrations the country is on high alert as the Security Threat remains high. As cbs correspondent Kenneth Craig shows us cities around the country have deployed thousands of extra Police Officers to maintain a safe environment. Police on bikes and motorcycles patrolled the parade route and thousands of visitors passed through screening check points to gain access to the National Mall for the smithsonian folk life festival. Approximately 50 foreign citizens took the oath of allegiance to america on the deck of the battleship new jersey. These new americans hail from 28 different countries. Partly cloudy as we head through tonight and most of the showers coming to an end so looks good if you have plans to head out and hit some fireworks displays tonight. Temperature change compared to 24 hours ago much cooler anywhere from six to 11 degrees colder than 24 hours ago. Thats because of the cloud cover were dealing with. Look at that, reading only at 67 degrees. 72 in allentown. Mid 70s in south jersey. Dover the warm spot at 77. But when you break out into the sunshine we do warm up. Pittsburgh at 79, 83 in richmond so that warmer air starts to move in for the rest of the Holiday Weekend so it does feel like summer again. Heres the trend. Over the next several days, average high 87 degrees. Today we were 10 degrees below that. And then tomorrow back where we should be, same deal on monday. Then we start to heat it up again for tuesday into wednesday as we approach the low 90s. By the end of the week we cool down a little bit but still average, pretty much where we should be. Comfort index still not that great. A lot of humidity in the atmosphere. Right now the current dewpoint is 61. That tells us how much moisture is in the air. Tomorrows dewpoint kind of the same story what were dealing with right now so that will be on the humid side. Could be worse for this time of year so at least enjoy that. Heres the setup. We get the cold front moving farther off shore, High Pressure replaces it so thats what brings back skies mostly sunny for sunday. Mid and upper 80s for the high temperatures. So sit is warm. Monday kind of the same dealing High Pressure still in control. Sun and clouds, upper 80s and then tuesday we really start to warm it up, upper 80s possibly some low 90s. Watch out for a late day shower or storm as that cold front approaches. Now now through about 9 oclock maybe a stray shower but looking much better.
