Oakland police are investigating a shooting that happened shortly after the Skyline High School graduation. Police say shots were fired on campus around 745 thursday night as people were leaving the ceremony. Police say two groups got into a fight in the School Parking lot, resulting in multiple people being shot. We heard the gunshots, zaidi yucel has lived right across the street from the school for close to 30 years and ran outside. It reminded me as soon as i heard the shots, this recent shooting in uvalde, texas, Oakland Unified School district tells ktvu many families and students had already left the campus, but others, including staff members, were still on hand cleaning up. I was there because my brother was graduating and hes okay, but its kind of crazy because skyline alum josh manly works at the church down the street, where a sign salutes the graduates. He left campus before the shooting, but his 16 year old brother was still there. They heard the shots, but they thought it was just more confetti cannons. But then people started screaming and they got out of there pretty quick. Oakland unified superintendent doctor kyla johnsontrammell calls the shooting heartbreaking and absolutely unacceptable, adding as a community, we must not tolerate violence and instead Work Together to eliminate it. In oakland, having a gunshots and guns bringing into school, it is difficult to digest. It is concerning Assembly Member mia bonta tweeting my heart is with the students, families and Skyline High School staff and educators as Oakland Police found two shooting victims on campus, a man and a woman and a third victim was found in a nearby hospital. Police say all three are expected to survive. Oakland police say theyll be on hand for upcoming graduations. Guys yeah, obviously stepping up security moving forward. What are city leaders saying about last nights shooting . So mayor qingtao sent out a lengthy tweet this afternoon saying in part, deeply disturbing and that the city is going to work with the School District to make sure that violence is reduced on campuses. It really is so troubling, especially coming at a night of what is supposed to be celebratory. All right, joey huerta, thank you. Well, new at six tonight. The families of the children killed in the shooting at a school in uvalde, texas, have now filed lawsuit against instagrams parent company, meta , a video game maker, as well as a gun manufacturer. The lawsuits were filed two years to the day when an 18 year old shot and killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school. The families claim the gun manufacturer Daniel Defense, marketed guns to minors through instagram. The suit claims the gunman spent hours every day on instagram, followed gun content and liked posts featuring the rifle. He ultimately bought the day he turned 18. Activision, which makes the video game call of duty, pushed back on some of the lawsuits, claims neither Daniel Defense nor meta have commented. A High School Student in santa rosa has been arrested for allegedly pulling out a knife during a fight on campus. This happened at Montgomery High School on wednesday, police say a video appears to show a 15 year old boy holding a folding knife during a fight with another student, but that blade was not extended on the knife during the fight. The teen is now facing several charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon. The knife used in the fight was not found to westbound lanes, which had been blocked for hours on the bay bridge. Following a big rig fire, have now reopened. Several more lanes were also shut down earlier, while crews worked to clear that scene. The San FranciscoFire Department, posting this video on x showing the trucks trailer just engulfed in flames. A Group Seeking the recall of oakland mayor shengtao says they do have enough signatures to put the recall on the november ballot. The group called oakland united to recall. Shengtao says theyve collected more than 30,000 signatures, surpassing the required 25,000. They say when they collect over 40,000 signatures, they will then submit them for verification. The group argues mayor tao has failed to get a handle on crime, and they believe this recall is going to be successful with respect to the 40,000 that sends the message that we already have more people signing to recall you than who voted for you to get elected in the first place. If the recall does pass, an election will be held to choose a new mayor for the city of oakland. We have reached out to the Mayors Office for a comment , but weve not yet heard back. The hospital is owned by hca healthcare, which is the advocates say is the largest for profit Public Hospital corporation in the us. The Trauma Center serves more than 2400 patients a year. The stroke Center Serves 65 of patients in the country without insurance. The head of stroke and neuroscience at the hospital says delays in care could be dangerous to patients. If you look at all the studies, when any major Trauma Center is closed, the mortality mortality in the population increases by 29 in next two years. So i think it is a big, big step backwards. The Trauma Center is set to close on august 12th. The hospital says its because not enough people are using it. Community leaders say the closure will impact people of color and underserved communities the hardest. In a statement, the hospital spokesperson said smc is focusing on Emergency Services with a 10 Million Investment to increase capacity from 43 to 63 beds. He added, quote, patient demand for our Emergency Department services continues to grow as we average nearly 225 patients daily, it is critical we invest in our Emergency Department to meet todays high demand and prepare for anticipated increases. A big weekend in napa as the 11th annual Bottlerock Napa valley festival is underway. Stevie nicks, the big headliner tonight with lots of star power still to come in just a little more than a decade, this festival has become one of the biggest and most sought after Music Festival tickets nationwide. Our Bailey Ocarroll joining us now live with a preview of all of the excitement expected this weekend. Bailey hey, heather. Yeah, i might just be the hottest ticket in town if youre staying around this Holiday Weekend. Weve been here for a little while now. Weve seen theres a lot of people already here, but theres also a lot of people who just started coming in, and probably a lot of those folks who just got off work and now are kicking off their Holiday Weekend. Weve been checking out all of the different stages here. One thing that caught my eye not necessarily my ear, is the silent disco, you see. Right there it was silent. That is, until Kelly Clarksons since youve been gone came on. And i dont blame most of those people. How could you not sing along to that one when it comes on . But one other unique thing about this show, or about this festival, rather, is that its really for people of all ages. Its always felt like a family affair, and i know its gotten to be more, more so. But for us, its just kind of its something that we do every year to start to start the summer. We know that theyre safe, theyre with us, yeah. I mean, we feel safe. This represents napa valley perfectly. Theres people all around the world that are here, and bottlerock is second to none. We call it mom. Coachella hey. And, yeah, there are certainly people of all ages here. Ive seen kids very young, as young as elementary school, just a couple years old here. So its certainly a welcoming event. Organizers aiming for that crowd as well. Now, tonight as heather mentioned, folks excited for the one and only stevie nicks. Pearl jam will be here tomorrow. Ed sheeran comes in on sunday. He is the headliner for that day and there are still some general admission Tickets Available for this evening. But if you want to come on saturday or sunday, it is sold out as many as 40,000 people expected to come out to this festival today, saturday and sunday. Heather, we will send it back to you. Yeah, and its not just those musical acts. I mean that culinary stage also attracts some big names as well. Exactly. Bradley cooper is going to be here. I think cameron diaz is going to make a stop over at the culinary stage as well. And i had my eye on some of the food around here. Im glad i didnt bring dinner with me because i will tell you a lot of the food that ive seen people Walking Around with looks pretty good. Yep, it is the best of what napa has to offer. All right. Bailey ocarroll, thanks so much. Coming up tonight, authorities in the south bay alarmed about the spread of an invasive mosquito species and getting the problem under control is no easy task. Also ahead, state leaders declined to file charges against officers involved in a deadly shooting in antioch. More than two years ago, but they say they still say theres room for improvement among the ranks of police. And in weather, the cooldown has arrived. More low clouds and fog pushing in overnight, and the weekend will start off on a cooler note. We will have the update coming up. Also coming up tonight, High School Seniors from east oakland celebrate one anothers success as they look forward to attending college in the fall. Their reflections on the hard work and support it took to get them to this point a day, as more than 75 seniors announced just where they will be attending college this fall. Ktvu tori gaines is joining us here in the studio now to share more from oakland unitys decision day. This was great. Yes. Absolutely great. The energy in that room was definitely contagious and it was an absolute pleasure to be there to witness these students announcing their college decisions. Now, for many students right here in oakland, the idea of going to a four year college can seem out of reach. But these students are proof that a strong support system can make anything possible. Confetti and cheers filled oakland unity highs auditorium on friday in honor of more than 75 seniors heading to college this fall, many are proud to be heading to colleges right here in california, and some are ready for the adventure that awaits at colleges out of state. 97 of oakland unitys College Bound students are the first in their family to go to college. Im actually first generation myself, so i think just like kind of being an example for like younger family members is really empowering and motivating. On my journey of Higher Education challenges that first generation students face can sometimes stop the College Application process altogether. From Financial Aid forms to college interviews, the process can be overwhelming, but the results can be life changing. Students at oakland unity tell us their support system made all the difference. The process was a little long and tedious. I had like it was multiple steps on top of another and some information that i just couldnt get that i just didnt know. And it was hard for me to get it. And i had to talk to my counselor and make meetings to get it done across oakland, only 50 of black and brown seniors who graduate are considered College Ready. Oakland unity touts a unique success in the city. 94 of the schools graduating seniors are considered College Ready by academic standards. Families in action for quality education, a nonprofit that serves students in oakland, tell us they want to see that expectation change. The organization started to raise the Bar Initiative while partnering with 15 schools to improve student outcomes. Many of oakland unitys graduating seniors benefited from those efforts. The team here at oakland unity, they believe anything is possible for the kids here. Theyre right in the middle of deep east oakland. There are tons of challenges around us, but kids come to school here with a Supportive Team and family that really thinks of them as family. Now, as the seniors graduate and head off to school, we here at ktvu want to say congratulations and we cant wait to see where your College Journey takes you. Yeah, i mean, its really impressive too, when you talk about that percentage, right . I mean, 90 of ready for college, thats great. Its huge, especially here in oakland where as i said earlier, its only 50 of black and brown students graduate College Ready. So this Nonprofit Organization is trying to change that. The students at oakland unity are a prime example that this this works. Yeah. And nearly every single one of these graduating students is among is the first in their family to go to college. I mean, that is so meaningful, i imagine, to that big accomplishment, absolutely huge. And especially for those of us who, you know, went on that journey as a first generation student, maybe didnt have our parents to help us through the fafsa application or the interview process. Its huge to see them feel so confident and excited about this next step for them. All the best. Yeah. Nice. Thank you guys. All right. Lets talk about memorial day weekend here because it is getaway day and folks are getting away. But theyre not getting away quickly here. This is the Holiday Weekend travel rush. And it is on here at the east shore freeway. Here from this shot you can see traffic really just kind of crawling along here as you head through berkeley right now. Plenty of people trying to make it out of the bay area right now, maybe up to napa for bottle rock, heading along interstate 80 to get there. Okay, so it is also rough going try to go into San Francisco tonight. Take a look. This is at the toll plaza right now where it is just backed up. It really has been this way for much of the day today. Ever since that big rig fire. Yeah, the residual backup all throughout the day. And lets give you a live look tonight at sfo because some people are hopping on flights to go somewhere fun here for the memorial day weekend and at sfo right now. Boy looks kind of dark here in this shot. A mix of fog and runway construction has meant that flights are running a bit behind schedule today. According to flightaware, more than 200 flights into and out of sfo have been delayed. Today, the airport is reminding people that flight delays are ongoing through the end of june because one runway is currently closed for construction. Well, we are already seeing long lines at other bay area airports. Want to show you now the scene our crews found at San FranciscoBay Oakland International Airport this morning as people waited for security. Air travel is at the highest level in five years. This weekend, with more than 3 Million People expected to fly to their destinations just today alone. Some people we spoke to were prepared. We got here three hours early. Tsa takes us a long time, so but the lines have been really long, so hopefully we can get through. Airlines advise people to double check your boarding pass and to give yourself some extra time. Ill be taking that advice. My own advice when i head to the airport early tomorrow morning. Im not looking forward to it, mark. And also i am though looking forward to leaving this cold weather. Im going to texas where its going to be nice and warm. Oh, there you go. Yeah. You plan that out perfectly, heather . Yeah, but yeah, we have a cool start. You probably notice that a big cool down today. It will continue at least as we start off the weekend. But if you want the warmer temperatures good news because temperatures will be trending up a little bit, especially as we head toward memorial day. Take a look at the highs from this afternoon. It was chilly in San Francisco, 59 degrees, some 70s up in the north bay for santa rosa, some only some 60s for concord and livermore and san jose. 67. So heres the plan this weekend. Lots of cloud cover. Tomorrow morning you wake up, youll just see a big blanket of gray out there, and then we will clear things out in the afternoon hours. But the winds expected to pick up around 15 to 25 miles an hour. Sunday partly sunny skies. And then on memorial day for monday, we are expecting fair skies and a little bit of a warm up out there. In fact, the warmest locations on monday will be close to 80 degrees, so it has been somewhat of a cooler pattern setting up over the past few days. Remember tuesday we had temperatures close to 90 degrees across parts of the bay area, but a steady drop off in those numbers, especially for today. Big surge of low clouds already getting their act together already pushing back into the bay. So heres the overcast from Half Moon Bay out toward pacifica, San Francisco, already extending into the east bay. So thats a good sign. Were going to wake up to lots of cloud cover tomorrow morning. Current numbers already down into the 50s for San Francisco. Santa rosa 65 and san jose 63. It is windy out there. Look at Oakland Airport gusting to 32 miles an hour out toward sfo, gusting to 31 and san jose gusting to over 25 miles an hour. Heres a live camera in the south bay already picking up on some of the cloud cover, so were going to wake up to mostly cloudy skies and maybe some drizzle tomorrow morning. Overnight readings will be in the upper 40s to the 50s, but we will scale back on the cloud cover into the afternoon hours. We will have more on that and more in your full update. Your full weekend update coming up in just a few minutes. Mark. Thank you. Still to come tonight, state leaders recommend a number of reforms for the Antioch Police department. The dozens of traps are set in a neighborhood in the East San Jose foothills to keep track of aedes aegypti mosquitoes. No one knows how they got here, as theyre not native to the state and they exist only sometimes in central and Southern California. Officials say their presence in a residential neighborhood is concerning. So starting out the day probably step outside and say its completely overcast. It does not look too appealing out there, but we will scale back on the cloud cover into the afternoon hours. As you can see by one, two and 3 00 we are expecting the clouds to kind of go away. So mostly sunny skies, but the winds do pick up around 15 to 25, maybe gusts approaching 30 miles an hour. Heres the overall weather pattern. This cooler system has been dropping in from the north. It sticks around for one more day and that is for tomorrow. So were going to increase those onshore winds. Saturday is the coolest day of this stretch, and that means a little bit of a recovery by sunday and into monday. Heres the forecast model. Once again some clouds maybe some drizzle. First thing tomorrow morning. And then we clear things out into the afternoon hours. And then sunday morning. This is sunday morning 8 a. M. Maybe some patchy fog and then partly to mostly sunny skies and then into monday. No big changes out there, although we could have some patchy fog trying to return to the coast into the afternoon hours on monday for tomorrow. As we mentioned, the coolest day of this weather stretch. You could see just some 50s and 60s out there, and the warmest locations will be right around 70 degrees. So well have the cloud cover in the morning. Clearing out in the afternoon hours. And as we head toward memorial day a little bit warmer, especially away from the coastline. Beach is not warming up too much throughout this throughout this seven day stretch, but in the early next week, well gradually continue to warm up those numbers by just a little bit. So cooling off for your saturday and then a bit of a recovery by sunday and into monday. Yeah. No, not the most ideal weather conditions for memorial day weekend , but well take it.
