The work will not affect the angel island ferry, which does have its own landing. Ridership on the San Francisco bay ferry just hit a new postpandemic high. Ferry Officials Say more than 2300 people a day use the ferry. Last week. During the morning commute, that number boosted by a big jump of riders using the oakland route. When i worked the morning show at super bowl week, i took the ferry all five days because we were doing live shows in the city. It was the only time ive ever taken the ferry for work purposes. It was great. Its awesome. Yeah, i would love to take the ferry every day. The people that do swear by it, i havent taken it. Yeah i know, okay, well, so as we go into this week, were looking at temperatures that are going to fluctuate a little bit each day nights and mornings. And those temperatures will work their way up into the low 80s again tomorrow. Today they cooled off a few degrees. Heres some of the numbers. You can see this instead of 80. We had 77 in fairfield, 79 in antioch, 77 in livermore. Tomorrow those numbers will turn into low 80s. So you can see the fog out there. Its hard to tell the depth of the marine layer from this because its funneling through the gap there, but its a big marine layer, and its going to be probably the it is the dominant weather feature in our week or five day forecast. Its just going to be there. Its going to be nights and mornings. Well lets take a look. Heres tomorrow morning. So look at the fog footprint. So its well over 1500ft maybe 1800 feet. And its going deep. And so it gets up over the coastal hills, up over the headlands. And then it burns back burns back pretty, pretty rapidly. So itll be a little warmer. And then we do it again 7 a. M. Wednesday morning. And then it burns back a little bit. Comes back in wednesday evening and then thursday morning would be the most fog intrusion that we see. Which would youd anticipate a cooler day for sure. Certainly along the coast. So nights and mornings. And that pattern continues right into the bay area weekend. So yes, you know, its not, its not the end of the world. Its just pretty much pretty flat line. So with this forecast, were looking at right now, temperatures that are in the 50s tomorrow night therell be about the same. And you can almost see the marine layer. Those dark greens and those blues where the marine layer being the cooler moister air and you kind of see it right. And you can see where its not getting right. Its not getting that sea breeze isnt getting it that far inland. So that fog footprint i showed you on the fog model is kind of matches this, right . The blues and the dark greens. And then were about even for where we were last night this time in terms of temperatures about the same. So these are the forecast highs tomorrow sunny away from the coast that will be the story all week. And just a really pleasant pleasant week forecast with spring weather in store. Treev pollens are not so high. Theyre up, but not as high as they were. But the grasses and the weeds are coming on. So inland areas, youll notice the pollens again tomorrow and you hit the coast. Youll need jackets. Well see you back here tomorrow night. All right. Bill thank you. A new plan to target fare evaders on San Franciscos muni. The sfmta says it will hire dozens of new fare inspectors to monitor riders. And as ktvu christian captain reports tonight, officials have a plan in place to keep this new task force safe. Muni carries more than 440,000 weekday riders through the streets of San Francisco. While the majority of passengers pay their way, muni estimates that as many as 1 in 5 riders doesnt pay. Passengers say that doesnt surprise them. Yeah. You know, in San Francisco, everybodys trying to get their way out of their on the bus. You go any other city, you got to pay sfmta says before the pandemic, about 12 of passengers didnt pay. Now, the agency says about 20 of riders skip out on paying. The sfmta says it is in the process of bringing two dozen new fare inspectors online who will hit the road july 1st, riding transit and making sure everyone has proof of payment. What weve seen in the data is a very, very strong correlation between the presence of fare inspectors and people paying their correct fare, the sfmta says. Fares account for about a quarter of its income. We cant sustain muni Service Without people paying their fair fare, it is about a quarter of our operators salary. If were not able to bring fare compliance up a bit, we will have no choice but to reduce muni service to keep the new fare inspectors safe. They work in groups of three and can use radios to call for help if they see a potentially dangerous person or activity. The fare inspectors are a huge part of our safety program. Theyre very presence on the vehicle helps to make sure that everything stays chill. The sfmta says seeing people not pay can make other riders think they dont have to pay either. But the agency says a lot of those riding who dont appear to be paying have in fact paid for their rides. If they have the muni app, for example, they dont need to tag in like clipper card users. And remember , there are a lot of those who ride for free like the kids. The elderly, and the disabled. In San Francisco, christien kafton, ktvu, fox two news.
