While the stock market today saw modest gains, a triumph for tech on wall street, shares of santa clara based nvidia are up more than 6. And the Company Joining the 2 billion club with its skyrocketing valuation as it solidifies its role at the center boom. Welcome everyone to the four this afternoon im alex savage and hello everyone im Heather Holmes of the worlds greatest scientists and engineers are among those converging for nvidias gtc conference 2024. Gary live outside thatter jesse Convention Center in downtown san jose with more on whats happening there. Jesse heather and alex, good afternoon to you spand all eyes and ears are locd on the new ai chips that unveile sphere in downtown san jose. Over the course of the week. While investors in the overall economy may be a little nervous rates, those on wall street and at least one man here in the south bay whos on san fernando the san jose state campus. E on sophomoreupablo nava barrera eyes the latest lesson plan monday on how to make a killing in the market. I opened a brokerage account and i i wanteo invest in nvidia. This week, the ai Software Giant holds its annual conference in san jose. Founder jensen huang says 1 trillion of the worlds wealth will be on hand. No conference in the world is there a Greater Assembly of researchers from such diverse fields of science thatc mix has nvidia muscling ot march madness mascots to become the darling of wall street . Its its main product, its which which was very high quality, can now be used for ai, which everybody talks about. I am a helper guiding the from human interface to cars and phones. Other tech nvidia, which dris the company to higher plateaus. Unlike most companies, theyre going at it from all sides. Theyve got the hardwared service infrastructures. So sptheyre very well positioned o capitalize on this growing. And i would have to say exciting trend because nvidia is doing so well. uthe it drags the tide up. Since the tide is always an average. And that rising tide has scientists and capitalists coming together to reap the benefits of a world where technology and ai will play an increasingly larger role. I even helped write the script i wanted to be able toc spinvest and put some of my own personal money into the company, because i believe i think it has a lot of potential for the future. n and speaking of the future, pablo will be doing an internship checking the code usd in selfdriving car Artificial Intelligence. The conference here in downtown san jose continues until thursday of this week. Were liveuin downtown san jose. Jesse gary, ktvu, fox two news. Well head back up to you in oakland. All right, jesse, thank youn nvidias success and its fedak, an assistant professor hf business i really appreciate youc being here. You specialize in ai, and nvidia is now, as in Artificial Intelligence. Did they see something that others didnt . Yeah. So the reason for the boom in nvidia is that theyre underpinning some of space righe large language models, the generative ai, the biggest leap forward is actually in the computing power. So a lot of the methods, the algorithms that underpin these developments date back years is the ability to do them at the scale necessary to deliver the results that were seeing now. And thats where Companies Like nvidia come in, because theyre the ones that enable this spcomputational breakthrough. So lets talk about some of what we are hearing now is. Andr things, nvidia is now unveiling a new, even higher powered, what theyre calling a super chip. How much do these sorts of evolutions in terms of theuproducts theyts position as the main supplier during this ai revolution. Yeah. So as we see from the stock price movements and the position of nvidia is indeed looking increasingly betterl and i think this point. Okay so what does nvidias success iumean, you just mentioned, you know, its stockuprice i mean earnings reports. They just continue to beat expectation is in large part but what does that success mean. What does it signify in the broader economy. Do you think. Yeah. So in of new technolog, specifically ai anduthe broader economy, thats where a lot of my own research lays and looking at Companies Across the board. So across variousuindustries, manufacturing, finance, retail trade, wholesale trade and so on. The biggest impactsuof Artificial Intelligence, machine have actually not been tote replace human workers as some are concerned about, but to drive innovation to get into new markets, to diversify the set companies a result, capture more market share, sell more, but actually hire more workers as well. All right. Lets talk about where where a company as successful as nvidia goes from here. Wet numbers sort of laid out, the share price from, from just a year ago. Its now valued at more than 2 billion. What is the ceiling for nvidia. It cant continue to grow at this pace can it. Yeah thats thats a great question. Its an open ended question as we see the market, e optimistic. That said, in terms of innovation, there are usually ceilings and in terms of what we can get with any particular breakthrough like were seeing now with large language models, also have ceilings, and so i think that kind of will naturally reduce the growth. That doesnt has to come down oa bubble, it selfregulate as the market continues. Okay. So i want to get back the ree done, in particular when jobs, because are there certain industries, certain sectors that spyou think will be effective, yeah, absolutely, the thantm applications of machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, which we commonly think of as Artificial Intelligence, can look quite different in different industries. So as i mentioned overall on aggregate. So looking at the whole economy, theyre actuallyc of jobs as well as jobs in specific sectors, those can get impacted. So i have one paper that looks specifically at the audit sector. And you think about that machn replace its prediction, its anomaly detection on. Thats what these methods are really good for, and so what we see in audit, which contrasts with the overall employment. So on the graph here on the screen, we see overall employment which is actually goes up after introduction of Artificial Intelligence at the firm. But if you look at the audit sector, which i think theres a graph as well, and we take a look at kind of the years, one, two, three, four after the firm what happens that that employment actually declines. It declines by about 3, three years in and about 4, 7 four years after ai. So there specific kinds of jobs that are more at risk of being displaced. And on aggregate, theres alsoca reallocation of the workforce towards more educated workers, towards workers with stem degrees and towardsuyoung across the board in firms thats invest in Artificial Intelligence. All right. Well, it certainly is our future. It is whether were appreciate your insight here on the ai revolution. Anastasia fedak from uc berkeleys haas school of business. Thankuyou so much for your perspective thank you. And as always with technology, it seems, companies here in the bay area really, really leading that innovation. Okay, vta Officials Say that they are taking steps this afternoon to accommodate the nvidia conference crowd. The Transit Agency said on x that it is providing extra Train Service in downtown san jose this afternoon. Both the greenuand blue lines stop at the Convention Center station in about 16,000 people expected to attend that big three day conference. All right. In fact, Research Published in the World Journal of psychiatry found nearly 63 of. Middle aged women report struggling with symptoms. Doctor kathleen jordan is the chief medical officer with medi. Health. Its a company that focuses thank you o much for taking the time aftern. Explain a little bit more about brain fog and why memory issues are part of menopause. So our estrogen declines in things. It actuallyuaffects you know, our our fog, you should know is not really a medical diagnosis. Its really sort of a colloquial laypersons terms to just refer, word recall, and its very different thanc dementia. Right. So dementia and alzheimers is a progressive decline. So women in midlife have brain fogc, which has a lot of contributing factors because our hormone changes, keep us fromusleeping. Well, our stress levels go up, our metabolism changes. So we have a lot of things going on that can actually contribute to lack of focus, lackuof attention. But it isnt alzheimers. But women are worried about alzheimers because theyre taking care of their parents that actually have progressive alzheimers disease. Yeah. So thats when this new test that youre about to talk about really comes into play. A big announcement tomorrow. Its an online test that can really help people, especially women, because thats what were talking about right now. Learn more about whats behind their brain fog. Right. So what it helps by taking this three minute. Applie test you can do on your phone on your computer. And theres lots of evidence. Its been tried in lots of patients, and it accurately picks up if you alzheimers disease. So if you have symptoms of alzheimers, it will show up on the test. And thats the minorityc of women. Identify them and identify early aspects of alzheimers, we can get them in front of best care and early interventionc and eary care. And most impactfuluon outs and can slow progression. Yeah, i can see that. Yeah. And the other great number of women, though, who who dont have signs of dementia or alzheimers disease, it helps us identify those women and sort o them and their cognitive function. Right uso perhaps if its due to hormone, nutrient or vitamin deficiency, i mean, all of those things, doctor, are things that exactly. And sleep you know, sleep, largely due to theontt hormone changes. The hormone changes actually double the incidence of sleep issues, it changes our metabolism. So theres lots of things you can function, optimize your glucose screened for high cholesterol, hormone replacement therapy, exercise actually helps quite a bit. It actually changesc the wy our hormones work. So it actually helps in more ways than youd think. So theres lots of otherc things you can do to optimize brain fog symptoms. Yeah. And i think its important to note that for most spwomen, that brain fog is just temporary. Is this collection. Its not a medical diagnosis. Its a collection of symptoms that women have in midlife. Whereas you have plaques on your brain on imaging. Itsua progressive decline. And that is a medical diagnosis that requires interve, in the brain fog side, its really just a collection of a lot of Different Things that need a lot of different interventions, but as you said, two thirds of women in of braino you know, midi was created to really to identify these contributing factors and sort of help women wade through all the data on to optimize your health and optimize your Cognitive Health, too. Yeah. Okay. So asuwe wrap up this conversation, mean, how do people get access to it . S tomorrow, will it officially be available starting tomorrow . n yes. So we are in a partnership with them. A midi cd then we would refer you would tt and then together we would look at the results and figure out a care plan and how to optimize your Cognitive Health outcomes. So its a screener right. So its not a diagnostic tool. And it really is done bestuin conjunction with a care spgo through the screening, send them the links, help them decipher the results and then figure out what next steps are. Yeah, i mean, thats the important thing, right . Is how to identify it and then and then how to deal with it. Well really appreciate what youre doing, especially on a topic that a lot of women dont like to talk about, but obviously is really important. So thank you, doctor, for joining me today. Appreciate it. The for today, a new push to boost funding for local transit agencies strugglinguwith ridership since the pandemic. Chevrolet. Together lets drive. New legislation that could provide hundreds of millions of dollars to struggling local transit agencies. The senators say the connect bay area act would generate at least 750 million a year for transit operations, helping them to avoid service cuts if the bill becomes law. A measure would be placed on the ballot in 2026 at the earliest, asking voters to authorize a new tax on sales, regional payroll or properties. Supporters say this would help to address the budget shortfalls that the pandemic. Joining us now to talk more about this effort is state senator scott wiener, a coauthor of this legislation. Senator wienerl always appreciate the time you. First off, to make the case to the voters here and the public, why do you believe its important for lawmakers and then for voters to approve this measure . Sure. Public transportation is absolutely essential for the bay area. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people a day ride transit to get to work, to school, to the doctor, to the supermarket. And without good public transportationuin some people, a lot of people wont be able to get around, and congestion on our roads and freeways will be dramatically worse, and we will fail. In terms of our climate goals, our Public Transit systems have never been funded at the level that we need them to be funded to truly succeed. And the pandemic made it even systems, make sure they servicee sure theyreuactually adding service and bolstering it. We also need better integration among these systems. So this measureuis yes, its for make sure that we of transit in the bay area. I want to talk about the potential of consolidating some of the many transit agencies here in the bay area. Just a moment. ubut let me ask you quickly if i this measure how it would be structured. I know this would pull from a variety of funding streams, including sales taxes, spbusiness payroll taxes, and parcel taxes. Potentially, how paying to put toward transit be funding . And who would decide what that that rate would be for well, to be clear. So today we introduced the bill. This is only step one. We have a six month legislative process ahead of us. We have 27 members of the bay area legislative delegation and many local stakeholders etc. This will be a regional conversation about what is the besturevenue source we provided options, but those are options, how are we best going to spend it operations . Absolutely but also for capital and also to fixc our roads, and so that will be a broad conversation. And then the region will ultimately decide what to go to the ballot with what what formuof revenue and how much, butuwe want to make sure were providing the bay area with this tool because we cannot afford to allow these transit systems to start slashing service, which they will start doing. They will go into a death spiral starting int that 400 million in state funding that was shifted over to transit agencies across the state is set to run out, at least at some point during the year 2026. Hence the reason. Yeah, yeahc, the money, the 400 million we secured last year bought us some time and breathing space to have a long terme structural fix, which is let you go, lets talk herere we about another aspect of this fact that it along component heo transit agencies, it also of a plan to potentially consolidate some of the 27 different transit agencies we have across the greater bay area. This is sort floated by a number of people by different agencies, it can be difficult for people to navigate that sort of labyrinth here. What how would that process, what would the process look like of formulating this kind of a consolidation plan . Well, its not only consolidation. Thats one piece of it. We know that our system needs to be more integrated and seamless so that people can use lots of different systems and understand how they connect to one another and make those connections dramatically better. So the bill actually mandates what we call a Network Manager. So a centralized regional entity , we would basically require transit operators to better integrate with each others schedules, fares, information, etc. And then on top of that, assessment of to see what the what the benefits are. And then we can make decisions based on that thorough assessment. Let me ask you, just because im curious, i meanc, would individual transit agencies have to have to approve this kind of sense at this point about how many local agencies would be on board with this kind of kind of a plan . Well, for the Network Manager that i mentioned, that would not be optional. That and this bill will require that, uthat we have thisc centralizedunetwork management to have better integration for the consolidation. It is a study and assessment to provide information to the legislature and the region. Anduthen depending on what that study shows, uwe could make informed decisions about whetherc scale. All right. I appreciate your we always appreciate it. Statet senator scott wiener, good to think were going to talk about the weather, here we are going to get to the weather in just a learning about a little bit of e look now at the airport and another developing in the series of Aircraft Safety incidents on the San Francisco chronicle, reporting that a japan bound flight from sfo was forced to return to this afternoon, all due to a mechanical failure. Now, were currently working to learn more details about this. This does, though, mark the 10th two around after a mechanical turn failure. We will continue to follow this breaking news and bring you any updates as soon as we learn them. Meantime, boeingr one of its planes landed, missing one of its external panels. The united flight, also out of oregon, on friday with a Panel Missing from underneath the plane. Its unclear when the panel broke off, but it is onet in a string of incidents that i was just mentioning involving boeing planes and united airlines. United says the crew of flight 433 did not declare an emergency, and that there was no indication of the damage during the flight. For its part, scott kirby, ceo of united airlines, involving the airline. And heres what he said in part. Quote, unfortunately, in the past few weeks, our airline has experienced a number of incidents that were a reminders of the importance of safety. While they are all unrelated, he says that he wants passengers to know that these incidents have our attention and have sharpened our focus. The airline went on to increase safety. The airline is also planning an extra day of spinperson training for all pilots, starting in may. All right, a bay area woman finds passion for helping seniors, and youre going to meet her next. Find out more about the experience as a teenager that helped across the bay area this afternoon, plenty of blue sky temperatures running above average for this time of year. Little change expected as we head into the first day of spring. But we do have spring showers in the extended forecast. Ill explain. Coming up [alarm rings] [alarm rings] get exclusive offers on select new volvo models. Contact your volvo retailer to learn more. Its all across the bay area, so she started working at a Senior Living facility when she was just 15 years old. And today she runs her own business providing Placement Services to seniors. Anita forels launched neighborly ago. That business is based in san bruno, and recently she marked an important career milestone, helping more than 1000 older adults to findt housing at various assisted living facilities. Anita joins us now live to talk more about her work. Anita, thank you. And first of all, congratulations on reaching that important milestone. Why is this what you have dedicated your life and tor adults . Grew up with the multigenerational Family Members within my household, and my parents instilled in me the importance of seniors and listening to their them. I got y start working at 15 and Senior Living community, and over thosa wealth of knowledge, working on the insides of Senior Living communities. I know when your living community, its often inm a need and its a very difficult process. So im glad that i can use my knowledge that ive accumulated and helped many people to make that process as an easier process, and to really help them find whatutheyre looking for and whats most appropriate for them. Yeah, because as you mentioned, i mean, it can be an journey for a lot of families. Souhow do you help them navigate this process a little bit better . Yeah, absolutely. So being in ive been to about 95 of thesay community. I know the different facilities or communities and their price points and differentiators. So having a conversation with the family to get of their loved one, the senior that were looking for, utheir overall care needs, their financial situation, their wants and needs in a community. Being able to take that information and then give them specific recommendations on the community, that would be the most best fit for them, and then meeting them there to tour the community to seec if it lines u. And it would be a good option. And then theres many things that come up along the way, people have been in their homes 40, 50 years. What do they do with their homes . The lifetimet of belongings that theyve accumulated, maybe they dont have their power of attorney documents in order in order for their Family Members or other person to facilitate their needs. So guiding them and facilitating all of those things to make it an easier process and a really smooth transition. How do you recommend that seniors and their families approach this process . What do you think are the most crucial questions for them to ask as theyre making this decision on a onua Senior Living facility . Sure. I think everyone should get a head start to it, start looking at options looking at se basis, start having the conversation with someone like myself so that we can pinpoint whats in your area. What do thoseuoptions cost . Getting your act a lot of beautiful communities, but each one is a little bit different. Are and working withe professional that can tell you not only the specifics about the building, but the different and if its a goodand the prost fit for you. Lets talk a little bit about because they really do range. R, but theres all different types of facilities that are available. So walk us through some of the different options that people have. Absolutely. There are communities for peopleuwho dont require any care, but theyre just tired of cooking and cleaning, and they would like more of a social atmosphere. And thats an assisted living community. The majority of our clients, move into whats called an assisted living community, which is a or resort where you have a dining room and they provide three meals a day. They have an activities program, and they have caregivers 24 hours a day to provide care, maybe helping you with medication, dressing, things like that. And then there are services for people who have dementia is more hands on care to guide people throughout the day, then there are also smaller boarding care options, which is a smaller Single Family home, usually licensed to care for six seniors. And so that communityt is a good option for people who need a little bit more a smalle. So we talk through all and weigs and see whats a goodufitn and s and charge. How are you able to do that . Yeah, absolutely. Its fantastic. The community is the one who provides the compensation, which is fantastic because we get to work with the families and the seniors with no obligation for payment for them. They get to utilize our Industry Knowledge and expertise to overall make it them. Okay. As we as we finish this conversation, i mean, it really is remarkable that at such a young age, you have this connection. And maybe im speakg for those younger people, you know, uthats not a comfortable environment, but but here you ao find, you know, an opening and a valuable resource to provide to people. What does that make you feel like . Personally . Itsuextremely rewarding. I love the time that we get to spend with each senior, as my father told me to listen to thes very rewarding to help them do that and my team get from families that weve helped is we couldnt have done it without you, you are an angel. Asc when, client had said to one of myuteam members and they are just so appreciative and its so rewarding and fulfilling to lighten that load for somebody. Yeah that has to feel fantastic to play someone in a home. All right, anita varelas with neighborly senior placement. Thank you for your time. We appreciate it. Thank you very much. Yeah. And its great to, obviously a young woman there, all six of those team members, celebrate during this month as well. Okay. So lets talk about our bay area weather shall we. We are going to remain with dry weather through the business week, and then it starts to change up thursday. Friday you notice the ridge begins to break down, pushed wants to come ashore. It lookst like late friday. Theres a look at saturday and then on to sunday looks like a bit of a wet weekend ahead for us. Anywhere from half inch to an inch and a half.
