A barrage of gunfire aimed at a home in the east bay. Tonight. Shock and anger after attempted thieves opened fire, narrowly missing the family inside. I went numb, i wasnt scared, i was concerned for the safetyt of my child. Just happy to be here. Happy to be grateful to be alive after gunmen fired dozens of bullets toward them and their home. Good evening. Im julie julie haener and im mike mibach. The gunman tried to steal the family car right out of the driveway, but when they were caught in the act, that is when the gunfire erupted. New at ten ktvu is. Amber lee joins us live tonight from the Alameda CountySheriffs Office. And amber, no one was injured here, but a bullet just missed the couples five year old daughter. A barrage of gunfire disrupted a quiet residential neighborhood in san lorenzo monday morning around 330. There were bullets that entered here on this 4x4 and exited here, joey harker tells me. He walked out to his front steps after receiving an alert from a Security Camera that showed someone was in his driveway trying tousteal his carn a 2019 dodge sedan that was parked in the driveway. They shot through here, he says. One bullet flew right by his head and shattered the front glass door. I said, hey, what are you doing . And i looked down and i just saw a muzzle flash. They shot at me. Harker says two people fired shots at his car and his home repeatedly. Bullets flew into his home, hitting the large screen tv in the living room. Im a little bit shocked, but more angry than anything. This is my home. This is our safe space. A safe space violated. One bullet hit the back bedroom, narrowly missing his five yeard old daughter, who had been sleeping through her on the floor. Got on her, covered her with my body and dialed 911. Im not life on my hands, just like how her life was on their handsc. Harker and his wife charlene estimated that the ordeal lasted two minutes. At one point, he went back outside after he heard the suspect vehicle drive away, only to see it return to pick up the two gunmen who had been hiding behind hawkers car. They tell me investigators found 31 shell casings from military style weapons. So unreal. It was like at movie and, were just happy to be here. Happy to be alivel. The couple wants the suspects caught and held accountable. Harker says Law Enforcement told him they were able to follow the suspects car long enough to get the license plate, but that the car was stolen from the sacramento area and that they were not able to stop the car and so far, no ones been arrested. Mike, julie know you can understand the familys anger there, and glad to see that nouone was hurt. Amber, thank you for that.
