A bay area courtroom this morning. What his new defense team will be arguing for another bay area cityuconsiders weighing in on a resolution calling for a ceasefire in gaza. The final Council Decision that came after hours of public debate. Plus, it is the end for two longtime businesses that sat on the capitola wharf. We have a look at the demolition and the environmental protections in placec, as that work is being done from ktvu. n fox two news this is mornings on two. Good morning. Thank you for waking up with us this morning here on morning sun two. Im pam cook and good morning i just wao let people know. Yeah all right. Thats right. Its important you say that im dave clark. It is tuesday. Its march 12th. Youre ready for tuesday . Im ready for tuesday, steve. Spyou know, people get we get in trouble if they, you know, they have their day plan, their morning plan. And theyc think pams still on. I have time to. I hear it a lot, right . Yes, i do hear that a lot. All right. We do have 40s and 50s on the temp. Still some rain moving through. Its light. Its steady though for some its really added up towards the Russian River. Elsewhere, not so much, but this looks like it for a while here. Probably out to around the 21st hour. Pattern is going to change , so morning rain will give way to kind of a break later on, but drizzle, light rain, cloudy to mostly cloudy but sun breaks later and thats a change in thn starting tomorrow. 50s 60s on the temps james torres has joined the party here at 701. Where would you like to begin, lets lets just take an overall look, steve, because that rain this morning, we didnt see too many problems at 4 or 5 00. But now, starting the 7 00 hour, chs all over the place here. Red and green, all over the bay area. Red, of course, letting us know that there is traffic all over the place. A little bit of backups over in tracy, backups in san jose, over in oakland as well. All of the freeways. Pretty much experiencing little bit of delay here. And thats all likely because of that saturation that were seeing on the roadways as a result of that early though they come down all that hard, it did make our roads slick enough to cause some minor accidents. Little spinouts, solo car crashes. Were not seeing really any any problems goinguon here. But look at that backup there over on the 8p bay bridge span. Youll see it again. A little bit on the on the Golden Gate Bridge this morning. But really on those highly traveled bridges, san mateo bridge to that is going to make your morning start a little later than you probably want it tol so be sure to head out the door a little earlier if you can give yourself plenty of extra time. 702 well send it back to dave. Okay . James. Thank you happening today, a judge in San Mateo County will get an update from the new lawyers for convicted killer Scott Peterson, in a move that could eventually lead to a new trial the innocene project decided to take on petersons case to try to clear him. Ktvu. Allie rasmus is in redwood city, right now. You have more details. Good morning allie. Good morning. Well, Scott Peterson himself is expected to attend this hearing this morning by zoom. He is currently serving a life sentence in state prison in the central valley. But his attorneys, his new Defense Attorneys with the la Innocence Project will be in court for this hearing. Thats scheduled to start at 9 00 this morning. T youll recall it was 20 years ago when Scott Peterson was first convicted of killing his wife, laci peterson, and their unborn son and dumping their bodies in the bay near point richmond. Peterson has been in prison since then, but has claimed he was innocent and has tried in the past to have his conviction overturned. uearlier this year, attorneys with the la Innocence Project agreed to revisituhis case. His new Defense Attorneys now say they believe there was key evidence that 2003 trial, and that his conviction warrants a second look. This is the last ditch effort for scott. If they find new evidence thats exculpatory, then they will ask for a new trial. So today at this hearing, the judge is expected to ask the attorneys what that process is going like, how if theyve been able to find any new evidence and what their timeline is. Petersons attorneys were seeking evidence that said that they were going to be looking for evidence tied to a burglary that happened across the street from his home around the time his wife, laci, was first reported missing. Now, two months after taking on that case, this in San Mateo County has granted petersons attorneys a hearing. And so thats whats happening at 9 00 this morning here in redwood city. Again, Scott Peterson will be tuning in to that hearing, but virtually via zoom. Not in person. Live in redwood city. Allie rasmus ktvu, fox two news. Sp all right. Thank you. Alli, we are following a shakeup at the womens federal prison in the east bay city of dublin. Ktvu has learned new leadership is now in place at the prison after the warden and associate warden and a captain were all dismissed yesterday. Those firings came the same day as a raid by fbi agents. The prison has been the center of a long running sex abuse scandal. An attorney representing a number of sex Abuse Victims says the leaders, who were dismissed had pledged to reform the prison. And they all testified about how this is a different place than it was under warden garcia. But this looks the same to me and i think to many of our clients. Seven prisoner workers, prison workers have been found guilty of sex abuse in recent years. That includes former warden ray garcia, who was sentenced to more than five years in federal prison. Our time now 706 last night, the Redwood City Council voted against a resolution calling for a cease fire in gaza. n the motion fails with two votes. Its okay, Jessica Howard anduthe people who support the cease fire resolution reacted angrily to that vote. Hundreds of peopleusigned up to speak at that council meeting. Many of them waited outside the Council Chamber for hours, waiting to give their opinion on i want a cease fire. I think its important that we have a cease fire. Its a humanitarian issue. Do we need to stop the killing of all these innocent people in gaza now . Many who were there also spoke against a ceasefire the scope of city business mored feelings in the community. We have spent hours preparing for this meeting, away from our children and families to persuade you that this resolution is divisive and spaggravating to our warm and inclusive community. Some members of city council had similaruconcerns, saying they hesitated to spend city resources on an internal national issue. Several bay area cities have passed resolutions calling for a ceasefire in gaza, while others voted against the resolutions or they decided not to bring it up for a vote. Hundreds of jewish students, alumni and faculty rallied at uc berkeley. There can be no compromise about freedom of movement, about the to walk, about harassment or intimidation. The group says the university is not responding to allegations of antisemitism on campus. It also claims the university is selective when applying its policies to protesters,t including allowing propalestinian supporters to block sather gate for weeks. We respect our our classmates right to free speech, too, and we think thats important. But were here because the administration has refused to date to enforce its policies and to make sure that sather gate is open to all students. The University Says civil disobedience, such as blocking sather gate, does not call for police action. But if there is violence, Campus Police will intervene. All right. Our time is 708. The wrecking ball now falling in Santa Cruz County on two businesses on the coast, badly damaged during last years powerful storms. The demolition project started this week in capitola of the wharf house restaurant and the capitola boat and bait shop. The city decided to tear down those buildings after they were no longer safe because of damage caused by the storms in january of last year. In order to keep debris out of the water, the work crews there are cutting the buildings into pieces and then hauling them away off the wharf. 708 your time this morning. No storms this morning, but we diduhave a little bit of that le saturation on the roadways and saturation on the roadways could potentially lead to some accidents and bad you need to get out to this morning. Well take you, live or not, rathert show you some maps of what it is were that commute out of tracy into livermore, dublin, over the spaltamont pass, better. Its bn that way since about 5 00. A little bit of backup, good amount of backup want to see. Not what we hope for. The east bay is really taking a hard hit this morning. 880 has a big backup from hayward down to nearly fremont there. Pleasanton, dublin, all the way down to sonoma as well, along 680 and even trying to get over to oakland. If you take it all the way up to san leandro, once you get to oakland, you see theg over there on the right handt side of your screen. Pleasant hill, walnut creek conditions are a little rough this morning. We dont have any major accidents, not nothing. Thats e those little bit of backups here. I keep showing you the bay bridge toll plaza camera, because not only do you see the backup there and how many cars are in line to get across the bridge, youusee the wet conditions, you see the raindrops on the camera, and you occasionally see a little black frame there to keep an eye on this, of course, all morning long. Well have another update for you in just a few minutes. 710 this morning well go back to pam. Thank you. James. Ill give dave clark the dave clark clap. Always thinking of you, james. That wasuwell done, sir. Hey, to the east bay here because thats what were seeing mostuof our trouble this morning. And we are seeing a gooduamount of trouble there. You see all the spred thats listed. But im gog to point your attention right along 580 right in between Castro Valley and dublin, because were getting reports of what sounds like a hit and run crash, a car smashing into a big rig and then apparently just taken off from the scene. Chp working to get some more details here, but that big rig on the eastbound side of eden canyon road near eden canyon road, while theyre on 580, blocking at least twoc lanes of traffic. You red is already surrounding it. You right at that spot,c but i expet that to grow as the morning goes on, as we get more carsuon the roadway here. So well keep an eye on that, throughout the morning. And of course, once you go from east to west, if youre trying to cross over the bay bridge to get into San Francisco, expect a lot of this. This is backed up all the way back to, 580 here. So its going to be a little bit of delay trying to get into the city, because we do have metering lights on, and we do have a number of cars that are all waiting in line. Just to get through as well. Were still keeping an eye on that crash between Castro Valley and dublin. That was a car that smashed into a big rig. Chp is reporting it as a hit and run, saying that that car took off immediately after the accident. So is there blocking at least two lanes of traffic, and you can see just how muchuits generated, how much of a backup there along having kind of the same story along 880, a bunch of different crashesuthere thats causing all of this. Red will take you even across the bay here. The san mateo bridge is having a little bit of a backup, and we got a couple of crashes in redwood city along 101 thats also creating some big backups. So if you havent started your whole morning routine, yet, make sure you kind of account for all of this, because its going to take you a little bit of extra time to get to wherever you need headed into San Franciscore because the bay bridge is backed up a little bit, too. Ill show you that in just a few minutes. 733 lets talk to pam about the news. n all right. Thank you. James. Today, a judge in San Mateo County will hold a status hearing for convicted killer Scott Peterson. Were live this morning outside the courthouse spin redwood city. That hearing starts at 9 00 this morning. So that is one of our top stories we will be following this morning and throughout the day. The Innocence Project is going over all of the evidence theyre looking for dna evidence, and the judge wants to know how swiftly or swimmingly are you moving down this road to possibly discovering new exculpatory evidence . Peterson is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole at a prison in amador county. He was convicted of killing his wife, laci, and their unborn son in 2002. Our time now 734. A suspect was arrested, accused of stealing a car that had a two year old insidec. It happened yesterday afternoon in san pablo , around 130. Frustrated Business Owners in oakland are ready to take drastic action in response to the criminals who continue to target their shops and restaurants. Theyre threatening to stop pay their taxes unless the city increases the efforts to crack down on crime. Ktvu is alice wertz joins us now live in oakland with that story. Good morning alice. Good morning pam. Were here in the diamond district and these Small Businesses have a bold consideration that theyre theyre thinking about. It would be for the desperate times that theyre seeing here in oakland. A lot of the Small Businesses here on fruitvale, in the diamond district and around town have been plagued by the crime, the chaos. Its all happening as a result of Public Safety needing to be shored up. Its not just in the diamond district. Its ongoing. Between broken car windows, stolen cars and a shortage of Police Officers, Public Safety has suffered. Some Small Businesses in the diamond are throwing their hands up. The manager of seibels pizza says business is down 20. He and others like him want to consider withholding taxes unless the city bolsters its efforts to crack down on crime thats been plaguing the town. And were scared of our lives now, diamond district is not the sameuas back in the years that i have been working. Now, the owner of diamond cafe shared this surveillance video. This is just one of the four times he says his restaurant has been burglarized. And i feel like we need to start somewhere. I mean, its ridiculous. It seem like its getting worse. Yeah. Other Small Businesses in oakland are looking to join the effort, in spite of mayor shengtao insisting that crime is down, shes released a statement that in part says crime is on the downward trend. Since the summer of 2023, oaklands Business Districts have experienced a reduction in most property crimes. Government at all levels is working for the oaklanders, and i wont stop until every oaklander feels safe in our city now. John ramachandran is the district supervisor, district diamondn se says shes working on trying to find some funding for both creating a Business Improvement district. Right now, there isnt one here. There are 11 in oakland, including one at Jack London Square rock ridge lakeshore. But John Ramachandran says she wants to try and get some Public Safety ambassadors on the street, as well as seeing for some public privatet dingt partnerships to address the crime. Im live hereuin oakland. Back to you at the station. Okay, alice, thank you. Time now, 737. The mother of a San Francisco teenager who was killed while riding on top of a moving bart Daniel Barron was found on the tracks near the balboa park station january 29th. Investigators say he died while doing the dangerous stunt known as bart surfing. His mother, now warns other teenagers dont make should definitely ring a bell to those teenagers, and i want them to be. I want them to hear me that its dangerous. There was a similar tragedy just two weeks after her sont died, a 15 year old San Francisco Charter School student stunt near the daly city bart station. Our time is 738. The project to extend bart to downtown san jose is seeing the cost. Its just ballooning. The six mile extension isc expected to cost taxpayers 12. 75 billion, a u17 million increase from the most recent vta estimate. Officials also say they expect the project to be finished by may of 2037. Thats an extra seven months from the previous target of october 2036. The federal government could pay for half the cost of the overall project. Vta officials have to apply for that grant by july. My, right now its 739. We want to go head back over to spjames torres following traffic this morning. Any problems we should know about . Yeah, we got a lot the bay area here. I mean, there arente aucouple. And what leading to. F course, these red and green conditions. Were just taking a look at the map here. Wegre starting to see a lot more red than we are green at this spsee. Just a few minutes befor 8 00 this morning. But well goc ahead and zoom in a bit and talk about a little bit of the east bay here, because on 580 were still tracking that hit and run crash between a car and a and a big rig, i shouldusay, between a dublin and Castro Valley there. Right. If you were getting on your way toward if that, youve got a number of crashes along 880 and six 8580 as well. That is just creating all sorts of backup anywhere. So id imagine in any kind of commute that minutes, maybe on the side of 3 planning that might take you closer to 45, maybe to an hour, depending where youre going. Say youre headed toward the city of San Francisco. I mean, thats going to be pretty tough to with bay bridge also backed up this morning. But look at 101 near the Bayview District. Just complete read this morning. Not to mention a handful of accidents happening on 280 as well. So really, all of our major roadways, some sort of backup, like as a result of some small crashes here, a little bit of some roaduwet conditions there. We did get reports of some small flooding in marin county. The bay bridge toll plaza hasnt had any relief since about 6 00 this morning. C and really not that much of a story on the san mateo bridge. At least there the traffic seems to actually be moving. But Steve Paulson, ill bring you into the conversation. You say after today, no more wet mornings for a couple least a week at least. Probably the is when the next sign of rain would come back. Well take a look at season totals now for the sierra. Now theres some good news here. No doubt about it. Some of the totals. Sugar bowl now up to over 400 for the. Bor0 palisades tahoe 328. Kirkwood. Almost 300. Dodge ridge. Almost sp300. Homewood 276. North star 287 and heavenly 194. We have to remember, though, last year at this time, a lot of these were at six, 700 for the season, so it took a while to get going. But february and march has been kind to the mountains. Mount tamalpais has had over an inch of rain, mill valley three quarters, tiburon a half inch and woodacre 46,100. It looks like were almost done. Maybe some below the radar beam. So light drizzle. Theres been some amounts about a half inch to an inch in the russianuriver as well, but still hanging on here for a little bit longer. 40s, 50s, mainly 50s on the temps. Not much of a spread afterc this system though. Then we are going to see some changes. Area of low pressure is going to dig in, but the key is its going to dig in and then retrograde or backtrack and air aloft will look like this, which is something we see in september and october as the low settles a border. That will mean wind, thankfully though, we have rain. Weve had rain, we have the hills not an extreme fire danger, but it will be an offshore breeze that will start maybe wednesday night, but it will be sunny and it will beuwarmer and there couldube some mid 70s. This will probably starts to what we say. Morning. Drizzle. Cloudy to mostly cloudy. Some sun breaks later. 5060s on the temps and sunshine and warmer temps are on the way. But dont forget there will probably be some wind for a couple of days as well. Okay steve, thank you. Time is 743 a policy change by airbnb that might be popular withuusers who worry about privacy. So whether its two cars smashing into each other, we had a one of a car smashing into a big rig anduthen running away from the scene. Another one where lanes are blocked. Thats what is leadingc to all of these the bay area here. I mean, 880, youre seeing backups. 580 pretty much the entire city of San Francisco, 101 down the peninsula as well. So if to head out the door in the next 30 minutes, try maybe stepping out the door in the next minute or two, because it is going to take you quite a while to get to wherever you need to get to today of course, well keep an eye on these conditions for the next hour and tell you if they get any better, but well bring in steve to spreally lookuforward to some drier weather in the next couple days. This is mornings on two. T welcome to mornings on two at here waking up to rain thisents morning and cloudy skies two. Thank you so much for joining us. Im andre senior. Good morning im pam cook. Garcia has the day off today. It is tuesday march 12th. Lets check in with Steve Paulson. So it seems like drizzle still out there a bit. Yes. Drizzle light rain fog. But were almost done with this. But you can see out to sfo i ina lot of fog. This system is just kind of hanging on a little bit 50s on most of the temps. Ill show it to you anyway, here, as we system is dragginguacross it looks like its about done, but well hold on to some light rain drizzle for the Morning Hours, then start to get some breaks later looking for a break and it will be a sunny break and a warmer one. But morning rain and fog drizzle light rain boy its really added up, especially in marinucounty. Highs today. Thisr a week. 50s and 60s. All has no. His feet are on the could just. Spyou can just take my time. My gosh, i see red everywhere. Where are we going this time . You know, its funny, you mentioned marin county because they had a little bit of flooding this morning about an inch deep on a couple parts of san rafael, but not reallyc leae north bay here. As for everywhere else. Yeah, ive said it all morning. Were looking at christmas colors here, red and green all lot more red. And we can justutalk about practically anywhere. The east bay, i think, uis what really started off early this morning. I mean, accidents here, accidents there, back up on 680, back up on 8x0, all of which in both directions. Pretty decent backup on the bay bridge. But the san mateo bridge is looking pretty okay so far. Pair ofc accidents on 101 near redwood city. Scroll down a little bit to redwood city. We know at least two lanes are blocked on 101 here. As a result ofc a crash, and its just kind of a mess everywhere. We talked to someone here who was looking to make their way to pacifica, who says that normal 30 minute commute is now going to take them. Well over an hour. Thats going to be the case all around here. So if you need to step out the door, the next little while, try to do that much sooner than later. It is going to be a long day on the highways this morning. 803 for now, well talk to pam. Thank you. James. Today a judge in San Mateo County will get an update from Scott Petersons new attorneys in a move that could result in a new trial. Now, the Innocence Project decided to take on petersons case to try to exonerate him. Ktvu sally rasmus joins us now from the redwood city courthouse this morning with an update. Ali yeah, it was a case that Drew International Media Attention and has remained in the public eye in the last 20 years since back in 2004 when Scott Peterson was originally convicted of killing his wife, laci peterson, and their unborn son and dumping their bodies in the bay near point richmond. Now, he has been inuprisonusince then, but has claimed he was innocent and has tried in the past to have his conviction overturned. He got another shot to do that when earlier this year, attorneys with the la Innocence Project agreed to revisit his case. His new Defense Attorneys say they believe key evidence was not presented in his trial, and that his conviction warrants a second look. Now, some of the evidence to court documents, included his , evidence tied to a burglary from his home right around thet time his wife, laci, was first reported missing this morning, a San Mateo County judge is expected to get an update on how the search for that evidence is going and where his Defense Attorneys want tougo from here. Now, peterson will be attending this status hearing this morning by zoom. So he wont be there in person, but his attorneys will be in the courtroom in person. Less than an hour from now around 9 00. And cameras are going to be allowed in the courtroom. They wont be transmitting live, but we will be able to record it and have an spupdate online and in our later newscast, live in redwood city. Allie rasmus, ktvu, fox two news. All right. So cardoza has spoken extensively on the Scott Peterson case. Cardoza has sat through many hearings. He joins us now to discuss todays status conference and the presence of the los angeles Innocence Project. Michael, thank you so much for joining us. Sure. All right. So ali just went over the details of updatinguus so i wano the motions and how that could t what we know here. So from myt understanding here, an orange van was spotted across the street from scott and Laci Petersons home around the on c. What does petersons attorney say about this van and significance to the case . Well, the significance of the van is that there is speculation that on the day she was kidnaped, the house across the rid of the eyewitness to it, laci kidnaped her, put her in the van and took her off andt allegedly not allegedly, she died at the hands of those burglars. Now the Innocence Project thats a big deal. And ill tell you why in a minute. They are going to be looking at that van they want, and its burned that van has been burned. There was a mattress inside. Exactly. And that mattress may contain may contain dna evidence of laci. So if her dna is on that mattress, thats a big deal. Proving circumstantially that the burglars. When were the ones that took her and killed her. Now its my understanding that dna from that van was already tested, and we, as far asuwe know, it didnt have anything. You know, lacis in the van, right . What can you tell us about that . Well, theyre going to retest the dna to see how accurate the dna testing was. Youve got to keep in mind the fact that la Innocence Project is taking this case is a big deal, because they dont. A lot of cases come to them. They dont take every one of them. So what did they see in this case that they said, hey, we might be able to show the innocence of scott. So they took this case on. Go ahead. Could it be the fact, though, that this case was was circumstantial . You know, its long thought that there surrounding parts of it, seem that though he was guilty, which i know you have an argument as a lawyer saying that to prove that doesnt mean youre guilty. Well, it doesnt mean youre guilty, but i always thought, and ive said all through the years, and keep in mind, right near the end of the trial, the defense asked me to crossexamine marin scott. And in my crossexamination, which i did for them after that, they decided not to put scott on the stand. But right from the get go, i thought, wait a minute, youre moving this case fromt modesto to redwood city because too many people had opinions about scotts guilt or innocence in, modesto. I always thought, wait a minute, everybody in Northern California at that time had an opinion about Scott Peterson. Either they thought he did it or he didnt do it. I always thoughtuyou should have moved it to la. That was the first thought in my mind that led to a goes on from there. And so youre thinking the spfairness of the trial already was was a big problem. But let me ask you this here, that that the burglary that happened across the street that petersons attorneysuare now saying happened across the street from their home. And potentially those burglars could be tied to Laci Petersons disappearance. Thats one of the arguments that the that the la Innocence Project is making for Scott Petersons innocence. Yes. And keep in mind, if you all remember ted rowlands, he was a reporter here. Ted wasc ot there the day that the police are saying the burglary happened. That was the day after laci went missing. The theory of the Innocence Project is no, no, that burglary happened on the day laci went missing. And thats. Ted rowlands was out there the day after out there from four and he didnt s. He didnt see anyone break into nothing. He burglary. Interesting. All right. So thats going to be an interesting twist. Will he be a witness . Who knows. All right. We have to wrap it upc here. But well see you agan at 9 00 because we have more questions for you. Because this case is one of those that many people are talking about for sure. Interesting. It ist interesting, michael, thank you so much for sure. Pam all right. New this morning, the Governors Office says last months surge of chp officers in oakland has led to more arrests. Now, the governor saysuthere have been 168 arrests, 360 stolen vehicles recovered in Alameda County following following that Law Enforcement action. The motion fails with two votes. Okay, Jessica Howard, j. Howard, people who support the ceasefire resolution reacted angrily to the vote. Hundreds of people signed up to speak at the meeting. Many of them waited spoutside the Council Chamber fr hours, wanting to their opinions. I want a cease fire, i think its important that we have a cease fire. Its a humanitarian issue. We need to stop the killing of all these innocent people in gaza. Many also spoke against a cease fire resolution. They say its outside the scope of city business and would only cause more bad feelings in the community. We have spent hours preparing for this meeting, away from our children and families to resolution is divisive and aggravating to our warm and inclusive community. Some Council Members voiced similar concerns, saying they hesitated to spend city resources on an international issue. Several bay area cities have passed resolutions calling for a ceasefire in gaza, while others have voted against the resolutions or decided not to bring them up for a santa cruzuo businesses on theucoast that were badly damaged during last years powerful storms will be demolished. To keep debris out of the water, work crews are cutting the building into pieces and then hauling them wharf. Its been a pretty busy, maybet even chaotic Tuesday Morning for you. Today well take you right live out to the bay bridge toll plaza to just the traffic backup thats there, because we do have the metering lights onc and that traffic is stretching back to you the drops that are still on the camera lens. The saturation thats still on the roadways. We probably havent had rain in this area for maybe more than an hour now, that isucausing a lot of what were seeing this morning. And this is what were seeing this morning. A lot more red than green at this point. Those accident icons all over spthe place, i can zoom in on eh one of those and tell you whats going on there. The crashes that happened, what chp is doing to try to clear it. But really the idea here is that there is problems there are problems everywhere. Whether youre going on an eight, 86, 85, 80, 101, pretty much every highway is experiencing some sort of backup and either direction here. So if you are still working of your ms spmorning, know its going to te you a really good amount of time to get to to take a major highway because we just have that kind of backup all throughout the bay area. Its going to be one of those mornings. Thankfully, were not expecting to see rain for several days here, so this may be the last time for a little while that we see it is what we have to deal with today. Of course, well keep our eye on it. Let you know if they improve. But ill tell you right now, i dont expect that to clear up, at least within the next hour. I mean, look at that westbound side. Its a 5 or 6 lane, freeway there, and you can see just how many cars are on the road, how slowly theyre moving compared to the other side of the median. Theyre kind of the same story with the san mateo bridge. Slow moving on one direction. Pretty. Okay in the other direction, of course, we look at those maps and its just red and green all over the place. A lot more green or a lot more red. I should say that were seeing this morning compared to the green. All as a result, likely of some of the rainfall we sawuearly this morning. And the wet roads that we are still seeing now. 819 of course well keep our eye on that. Business owners in oakland are ready to take drastic action in response to the criminals who continue to target their shops and restaurants, theyre threatening to stop paying their taxes unless the city increases. The efforts to crack down on crime. Ktvu oakland with details on this story. Alice good morning. Yes, its a bold consideration for Small Businesses here in the diamond and throughout oakland. But its one they say that has to happen because its just getting out of control. Crime, chaos, its all happening and they want some extreme measures taken. Its not just the diamond district, its also everywhere throughout the town of oakland. Between broken car windows, stolen cars and a shortage of Police Officers, Public Safety has considerably suffered. Some Small Businesses here in the diamond district are throwing their hands up. The manager of seibels pizza in the diamond says his business is down 20. Weve heard that fromt other Small Businesses today as well. He and others like him want to consider withholding taxes to the city unless the city bolsters efforts to crack down on crime thats been plaguing the town. Were scared of our lives now. Diamond district is not the same as back in the years that i have been working. Now the owner of diamond cafe shared this surveillance video. This was just one of four times he says his restaurant has been burglarized. Hes on board with the idea, as the crime is costing him and his customers. I feel like we need to start somewhere. I mean, its ridiculous. It seems like its getting worse. Now, one womanuwe spoke with said shes kind of on board with this idea. Shes also a Small Business owner and a resident. Shes frustrated and can understand why diamond businesses are proposing this extreme measure of not paying taxes. I have already paid my business tax for this year, of course, because it was already due, but, we dont have any services. And to the credit, the police that i do see on the street are at a loss as well because they dont have any leadership. And weve heard councilor for the diamond district that she is looking to find some Funding Sources to get some community ambassadors, as well as a Business Improvement district considered for this neighborhood. They dont have one. Currently, there are 11 in oakland thatuincludes, like jack this morning there was another business on this street that got hit last night. Im live in oakland in the diamond district. Back to you in the newsroom. Thank you.
