This order has been in effect. Its all been happening all night long. We have ktvu is Amanda Quintana there at the scene with the very latest on whats happening . What can you tell us, amanda . Well, theres still a very Large Police Presence here, multiple departments that weve seen. Lafayette police, danville police, and then Contra Costa County sheriffs. So this behind me is the complex that it seems like they are focused onc. We ae on canal road here. So if youre familiar with the right behind e mcdonalds here. And this isuthe Westwood Village complex. So we are Hearing Police say some things on the loudspeaker. Its kind of hard to make out what theyre saying, but theyre not allowing anyone into this complex. You could see theres the crime scene tape. Theyre trying to block it off. We are seeing some people walk around, but police are trying to keep them out of the complex. Now, Contra Costa Sheriffs Office put out an alert telling people nearby this area. Chadwick lane, Lancaster Circle and lancaster lane to lock down. Go inside, lock all windows and doors and stay off the phone. Now. This is north of highway four, just across the highway from the pittsburg bay point bart station. Video from the scene shows officers in swat gear int this neighborhood. Theyre also flying drones and setting upua perimeter near this apartment complex. We still dont know what officers are responding to and how this all started, but the Sheriffs Office is specifically calling this a lockdown, not a shelter in place, which means its still a very active situation. And according to the u. S. Governments definition, a lockdown is typically a response to an active shooter. People are asked to make themselves less visible to a potential threat. So were going to be listening, trying to hear what police might be saying to somebody inside this complex, trying to get updates from police and learn more. And we will update you asn bay point. All of the victims are women in pinole. Family and friends are still mourning the death of a mother who was shot and killed in front of her four year old son by the father of their child in san pablo. A 40 year old man was arrested and charged with murdering his wife and her mother. Earlieruthis week. Their bodies have not been found, and one woman tells us she is heartbroken after her 25 year old neighbor came to her for help and then lost her life. That victim was found dead last week and her boyfriends apartment in downtown oakland. I gave her a long talk about life and how the domestic is real, and that if a man shows that much anger towards you, that young in a relationship, hes going to only get worse. Deep down, were were only here for ourselves. uand when a person loves you, the last thing theyre going to do is abuse you or mentally abuse you. It doesnt take much to get into a situation that turns violent. And, you know, people are more and more isolated, less and less connected. Experts say it can be challenging to intervene in Domestic Violence cases because many abusers will keep victims from getting to those support networks. A bay area family is searching for their missing teen, who they believe may have run away but could be in danger. 16 year old Natalie Fuentes from richmond. They say she went missing last wednesday from San Francisco after chatting online with a man named manuel from santa cruz, who asked to visit her. Her grandfather said he received a message from the teenager yesterday saying she had run away and is okay, but the family is still very concerned for her safety. I found some evidence on her phone, of her wanting to run away with, what we think is an older gentleman from santa cruz. So i would like to hear her voice, and i would like her to come home if she can. The last time fuentes was seen by family, she had green hair. She has brown eyes, weighs 135 pounds, has several piercings on her face. Girls parents have filed a missing persons report with the Richmond Police department and police are warning parents about a social media challenge that could put High School Students in danger. Teenagers were playing a trending tiktok game called senior assassin around Hillsdale Shopping Center last night. San mateo police with fake firearmsr receiving calls about young people playing with guns. Officers are worried that someone could get hurt if the modified water guns with black paint are mistaken for real weapons. More than a dozen people are recovering from injuries after a vehicle slammed into the front of an ac transit bus in oakland. That crash happened at 54th and international yesterday afternoon. Ac transit Officials Say a chrysler 300 traveling on international boulevard hit a prius, which was attempting to lost control, crossed the Center Median and struck that bus head on. There was one main vehicle involved that that struck a second vehicle and then struck that the same speeding vehicle struck the ac transit bus, which was heading westbound, head on. And so we have a mix of patients from each of the three vehicles. Firefighters say at least ten people, including the bus driver, were transported to the hospital. Two of them suffered major injuries. San francisco supervisor dean preston is pushing new legislation to curb the ongoing drug crisis. He plans to aim to fight open air drug use by requiring any new business in the tenderloin to have a special permit if their store sells mostly tobacco or related products. Supporters of thet legislation say these shops also sell tools and items that drug users use right outside of their shop. However, some residents are critical of the proposed legislation. They say tobacco and related products are already expensive, and competition may bring down prices. I dont agree with that because i mean, for one, why wouldnt we want more variety . You know, we live in a country where you can, entrepreneurs should be able to have a business whenever they want. New smoke shop owners in the area have also been critical of that supervisors plan. They say the open drug use issue is the governments problem, and people who own Small Business should not be restricted. Should a Public Employees union in San Francisco is asking the state to block a measure that was passed by voters this week . Its taking issue with prop f, which does require welfare recipients who are deemed drug users to enter treatment or risk losing their benefits, it says. The city did not discuss prop f with the ballot, and Relations Board tot prohibit San Francisco from implementing that measure until it holds a good faith meeting session with the union. A professor at uc berkeley says the university is failing to protect its jewish students from violence and so now hes staging a protest. Professor ron hassner is the chair of israel studies at uc berkeley. Want to show you what the lake looked like yesterday when people started to notice the lake had a little bit of a rusty hue to it. Now the color was reminiscent of the harmful algae bloom that we saw in the lake two years ago that killed thousands of fish. And we did get more details on the situation from the director of the Lake Merritt Institute. Were very cautious, but we are are hopeful that it is not the same typeuof algae that can cause these type of toxins or deoxygenation of the water. He also said the rusty color might be from sediment coming into the water, from the 60 plus storm drains that feed into that lake. Once the tests on algae come back, the Lake Merritt Institute says it plans to it ne to restore that lake water. Im hearing it too, during the drought years. You know, we almost dont you know, we felt guilty. We feel guilty when spring arrives because we know we need the water, snowpack is healthy. And we just got some new information as well. So the Contra Costa County sheriffs jw minutes ago that theyre currently working an incident regarding an armed, barricaded subject in this area. I also spoke with a witness just a few minutes ago who says that they heard four gunshots around one in the morning. This witness lives in this complex behind me. She says she believes that those gunshots were coming from and involving the person who lives belowuher in the she heard it. She has been evacuated. She was able to leave. So shes at a community other people who live in this complex, but still a lot of police here in the complex. They just closed down this road, canal road. So they kind of the Sheriffs Office here, multiple other police agencies, danville, lafayette. So this is still very much an active scene here. Now, where this is this is chadwick lane, Lancaster Circle and lancaster lane. All of them are on lockdown right now. So they were told to go inside locc all windows and doors and stay off the phone. S chances in a general frankly, i wanted to win. I just dont know that the former president can beat joe biden, theres too much bad. Politician and businessman john cox says he would stick with the party and voteufor trump in november. Others worry about his legal troubles, and i think its going toube a major distraction for President Trump and i think its going to really challenge the Republican Party. Trump met friday with Hungarian Prime Minister campaigned in pennsylvania, a critical swing state. Some haley supporters said they werent impressed or convinced by his state of the union speech, and they say theyre sick of divisiveness on both sides. The package of six funding bills worth 460 billion, passed just hours before its midnight deadline. Congress is facing a march 22nd deadline to pass its other six funding bills as another potential shutdown looms. The passage of all the bills would allow the government to remain fully functional. The bills passed yesterday and will now head to the president s desk. Democrat Lateefah Simon will be advancing to the general election in november. Well, the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office says theres someone armed and barricaded in the complex behind me. Now, i did speak to a witness who didnt want to go on camera, but she said around one in the morning, she heard she believes the woman who lives below her is involved as well as another woman. She said she heard them arguing before she heard those gunshots. But right now there is still a Large Police Presence. So as you can see, the Sheriffs Office here blocking off canal road and then the apartment complex is further behindl and there are a lot of. uweve seen officers from danville, from lafayette. Theres obviously the Sheriffs Office here, Contra Costa County. uso it is still very much an active scene. We can hear police alarms going off, and then theyre saying something over the loudspeaker as well. The Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office put out an alert telling people near chadwick lane, Lancaster Circle and lancaster lane to lock down. That means go inside lock all windows and doors and stay off the phone. This is north of highway four, across the highway from the pittsburg bay point bart station. Also, when you drive up to this area, you get an alert on your phone as well to lock down. Now, video from the scene shows officers in swat gear in the neighborhood. Theyre also flying drones and settingc up a perimeter near ths apartment complex. The only Information Police have released is that theres someone armed and barricaded. But the witness i spoke to, as welluas some others, have gathered at the Community Center nearby. Theyve been, you know, speaking about kind of what they heard overnight while this area is still blocked off. There are many tot go back to their apartment. A 40 year old man has been arrested and has been charged with murdering his wife and her mother. Earlier this have not bd one woman tells us shes heartbroken after heru25 year old neighbor came to her for help and then lost her life. That victim was found dead last week and her boyfriends apartment in downtown oakland. I gave her a long talk about life and how the domestic is real. And that much anger towards you, that young in a relationship, hes going to only get worse. Deep down, were were only here for ourselves. And when a person loves you, the last thing theyre going to do is abuse you. Or mentally abuse you. n it doesnt take much to get into a situation that turns spviolent and you know, people e more and more isolated, less and less connected to community. Experts say, can be challenging to intervene in Domestic Violence cases because many abusers will keep victims from support networks. Teens were playing a trending game on tiktok called senior assassin around Hillsdale Shopping Center last night. Sany detained teens with fake firearms after receiving a few calls about young people playing with gunsn officers are worried that someone could get hurt in the modified water. Guns with black paint are mistaken for real weapons. More than a dozen people are recovering from slammed in the f an ac transit bus in oakland. That crash happened at 54th and international yesterday afternoon. Ac transit Officials Say a chrysler 300 that was traveling on international boulevard hit a prius that it was attempting to turn left. Then the chrysler lost control, crossed the Center Median and struck the bus head on. There was one main vehicle involved that that struck a second vehicle and then struck that the same speeding vehicle struck the acutransit bus, which was heading westbound. Head on. And so we have a mix of patients from each of the three vehicles. Firefighters say at least ten people, including the bus driver, were transported to the hospital. Two of them suffered major injuries. San francisco supervisor deemed preston is pushing new splegislation to curb ongoing dg crisis. So weve got to change that, right . We sure do. And you are a what, a junior at cal. Yes. What what got you interested in stem, i cant pinpoint a specific thing, but i think its a factor of, like having a lot of really important female scientists and engineering role models and as well as just being interested in learning about the world and how things work and just kind of uncovering the mysteries that of like the natural world. And do you find in yourt classes at cal that more women are participating, there are spmore women, but it is still primarily male dominated. And a lot of my engineeringuclasses. Can i give you a go . Bears go bears that a girl . All right. And how did how did you get involved in stem. So and as a kidc i went to the Lawrence Hall of science, and i loved science from being in places like the Lawrence Hall of science. And so thats like kind of what inspired me to get into science and then i went to school as an undergrad for science at ucla. But then i went for, i know, and graduate degree in science education. Welll talk about the Lawrence Hall of science. The event kicks off, what, at 11 00,u11 00, 11 00 . Yes. What can people expect . Yeah. So, Lawrence Hall, science is uc berkeleys public science center, and we have which that means that we have like hands on and interactive experience acs and exhibits for families of all ages, all about science. And so todays activities are engineering focused activities that are run by the folks from the society for women engineers. So they get to see role models working in stem, working in engineering, and that is great and claire, was there someone in your life . Was it a woman that inspired you to go into stem, i think for me, my mom ins definitely encouraged me a lot on taking not necessarily the easier route, but the harder route. But the more fulfilling route of learning a lot about a lot of things. And are you excited to maybe meet some of these young girls that might come up today at the Lawrence Hall . Yeah. Inspire them to maybe follow in your footsteps. Of women engineers is running a booth called talk to an engineer, where well have a lot of our members come bring projects like this robotic car right here where they can talk about their experiences in stem andc showcase what its like to be an engineer to a lot of the attendees. Come a little closer to the table, because these are some of the items that kids are going to be ableuto play with, what is this here . This is a fun wobble bot, so youll be able to, like, move things aroundn and so and then turn it on, and maybe i made it to not wobbly, but these are pens down here. Yeah. So theyre pens. There we go. And so you notice that i was just sortuof doing a little bit of design and, iteration on the fly the way i wanted to. And then i got to move things around and tweak it around, tweak it around. Right. And so this is one simple thing that kids are going to be able to and what iss dislike to get their hands dirty . They sure do. And when they can do it and learn something about science and math. Were you that kind of girl growing up . Yeah, i loved hands on things. I shoes because i love, like playing and being able to touch things with my hands and see how things work that i think was what made science really exciting for me. Yeah i would be that way too. And the event itself is from 11 to 3. And thats when youll get to see our society for women engineers folks there.
