Developing news right now in San Francisco. Water sent gushing into the air in stern grove park. Ktvu Christien Kafton live there now. And kristen looks like they were able to turn off the water. But all that work is really just Getting Started to clean it up. Yeah, thats exactly right. We arrived here on scene just tr off. But we have seen this crater and the damage and show it to you right now so you can get a sense for yourself of just how much damage was caused. You can see this massive crater that is here, just where wawona ends, close to the end of stern grove, right at stern grove park. And if we turn just a little bit to the right, you can actually see the water main sticking up out of the ground that is where the water was coming out of, starting at around 930 this morning. Lets go and show you some video that we have that we took earlier to show you just how muchuwater we are we talkede supervisor for this district, joel engardio. He tells me that around 930 this morning, the resident that is closest to that water main felt a rumble that they describe. Initially they thought was an earthquake. They looked out and saw that geyser out a gigantic crater near thed home. There are crews here in the area assessing the home, assessing the surrounding area. It took crews about an hour to get that water shut off to this location. That water stopped right around 1130. Now, at this time, the citys Public Utilities commission and water and Sewer Department are investigating to see what actually may have been of this water main break. Weve also asked just how big that water main was. Point. But again, you got a sense just from looking at it ie described. We have talkeduarea e saiduwhen they looked out and they saw it, it looked like it was a geyser outside. They said it reminded them of being in napa and actually watching a geyser. Now the San Francisco water, power and sewer, the Public Utilities Commission Said that some customers in the area pressure. We have talked with a spcouple of people in the area. Theyve said so far they have not, noticed a change in their water pressure repairs, though theyre saying could take some time simply because of the size of that pipe. Now, we do have crews here who are in the to trr and make sure that they have ample room to move around and do the work that they need to get done as well, utraffic, they say, could have also been impacted. We did not see a lot of big down at the end of a cul de sac that ends right at stern grove expected to be minimal. We have heard that crews are going to be where were standing right now, just to make sure that nobody can getc crater and theres no, injuries as a result of any of this. We are still looking for answers, trying to have caused this water main break in the first place. We hope to bring that to you a little bit later on today. For now, we are live in San Francisco. Christiac captain, ktvu, fox two news christian. I meanl you know, you and i, andre, were just talking stern grove, a jewel of the city here. Spof course theres that popular spsunday Concert Series that tas over stern grove set to start about three months fromunow. And i know its early to ask, is there any indication if whatt happened today will impact the stern grove summer because remember, there was a water main break someutime back that did impact, the sigmond grove, the stern grove festival. We are far away from that. Thats a stern grove and were n end of it, so were pretty far away from the concert venue. Ite whether it would impact it. I would have a hard time believing that it could. We dont see the where the venue is, where the music is played. Were not in the area where theres parking. This is simply another area of the park and like i said, its a very big park, i will of course, check in with the stern grove festival to see if there could be any possibility, if we could see any delay of that, as weve seen in the past, with that previous water main break this t gauged, just based on where we are, that it could impact the festival. Good. Youve bit. Still. Still a difficult situation. All right, christian, captain, well break you loose. Thank you for your reporting. In august of 2021, 700,000 gallons. Anduthat happened very near the stage. Much for that r. Moved to this story. Right now were hearing from passengers on board that United Airlines plane thatulost a wheel while taking off from San Francisco international airport. Ktvu zac sos talked to a passenger who was on the plane and a photographer whos image captured the stunning scene from theuground. This is the craziest thing i have seen, sal gonzalez, a professional plane spotter broadcasting live to his youtube united for osaka, japan, suddenly lost a rear wheel. I was just like, oh my god, i cangt believe its happening. And i justc saw that just like, whats going on . Did they know it wasujust after 1130 among the 249 aboard the boeing 777, Evan Schroeder and his friend devin, unaware of whatc had just happened, what kind of triggered a little bit of nervousness for us was when we looked at our window, we were right into a car and sfos employee parking lot. But airport Officials Say no one was hurt. Im just glad nobody, nobody got hurt in the cars, out of land, back in the air, the two high school seniors, part of a missionary group from illinois, say a message came out over the loudspeaker. All we heard was theres like an object that was interfering with the plane. Then 30 minutes later, we were kind of just going in circles, burning off fuel, and they said that air Traffic Control that it was acta wheel that fell off during, takeoff. ujulian fox, an Aviation Industry safety expert whose career includes stints at bothc boeing and united aircraft, are able to land in that scenario. So it really wasnt a risk to the people on board. ubut says federal investigators will now likely be asking, did that aircraft landing gear strut just come out of maintenance . Did they just install it . Was it its first flight . Could fatiu know, soucould it stem back that the aircrafts been in service so long that theyre now seeing an issue that had not come forward rerouted to lax . Evan filming with his iphonee runway. It felt like a very smooth landing in comparison to others that ive had, and i think thats just a props to the pilot. Getting back up in the air soon. Hopefully we dont lose another wheel at sfo. Crosswalk near the school. Intef fi avenue and calle de barcelona is extremely dangerous. This ma shows its three way junction with no stop signs, no traffic lights. One of the biggest problems with this intersection is that safety features. In mind. Tohe accommodate that high volume of students that go across that crosswalk, 225 parents signed a petition calling for a three way stop sign. Their other suggestions include reducing the speed limit for cars going through the intersection. Cupertino Safety Advocates say the city has added more Safety Measures at other schools, such as monta vista high and kennedy middle, that have similar three way junctions. The city is choosing not to put a stop sign, and they are choosing that they would rather not slow down cars for a few seconds to stopuat the stop sign to let kids through, their prioritizing that over thec safety of our kids. I can summarize it in, two words. Speak up there needs to be a collective voice. There needs to be some kind of voice thats being brought to the city. The Community Group walk by cupertino says a car hit two students atuthe intersection last year. Students say the school added a crossing guard al year, which has helped, but the students still want more protections now, in response to the cupertino transportation manager says the city is committed to safe roads for all users most progressive city in the bay area in making roadway improvements spto achieve the the biggest foe citys investments is around schools and ensuring students arrive to school and back home safely. Well, february jobs report is giving us a new snapshot of the us economy. Foxs Edward Lawrence takes a look inside those numbers. There were more new jobs than forecasted in february, though. The Unemployment Rate rose. The job market created 275,000 new jobs last month. About 75,000 more than expected, and the Unemployment Rate rose to 3. 9, breaking a three month streak of unemployment at 3. 7. Rise in employment is a big thing and might put a little pressure on the fed, so thats i think thats a good thing. While hiring continued at a brisk pace in february, the Labor Department revised its readings from the previous two months. Januarys blockbuster 353,000 gain was revised lower to 229,000. The revision downward revision in january is not that surprising because thats the biggest month for seasonal adjustments. So im glad they got it right, for lack of a better word. Meanwhile, the Labor Force Participation rate held steady for authird consecutive month, coming in at sign of progress for the feds inflation fighting. Average Hourly Earnings rose one tenth of a percent. A smaller increase than forecasted jobc gains came in in health care hotels, restaurants and government. On the flip side, hiring fell slightly in manufacturing. The government is running creating a lot of jobs. That is surprisingly were not seeing those jobs in manufacturing yet, despite the Enormous Growth in spending on manufacturing construction going forward, some economists would like to see the economy creating jobs in the private sector without soumuch government help.
