Immediately suspending cruises robo taxi operations in driverless taxi permits. In its release, the dmv deemed that the Autonomous Vehicles are, quote, not safe for the publics operation. The agency listed several factors, including matthew factor misrepresenting, misrepresenting any information related to the safety of the autonomous technology. There was no timeline for this suspension, and it does not impact the companys permit for testing their cars with. A safety driver. If you recall, cruise received Regulatory Approval in august to commercially operate their robo taxis at all hours in San Francisco. A week later, the dmv offered ordered cruise to its fleet in half as its investigated recent crashes involving the vehicle. In one of those incidents, a human driver hit a pedestrian first. As part of their decision, the dmv released this statement. Quote, the dmv has provided crews with the steps needed to apply to reinstate its suspended permits, which the dmv will not approve until the company has fulfilled the required agents to the departments satisfaction. Then cruise will lose. Cruise will lose. Cruise will lose. Now the suspension comes on the heels of a protest in front of cruise headquarters in the city this morning by teamsters and some elected officials called for the selfdriving car company to address safety concerns in the wake of recent incidents. Last week, federal regulators announced a probe into cruise following pedestrian injuries. The pretty obvious. So the initial issues are just safety in general, right . When is enough enough . And theres no control. Local government control. Everything is at the state level and were just tired of San Francisco being the guinea pigs. Cruise released a lengthy statement in response to the dmvs suspension, writing in part, we will be pausing operations of our driverless avs in San Francisco. Ultimately we develop and deploy Autonomous Vehicles in an effort to save lives. Cruise also pointed to that october 2nd hit and run when a woman was struck first by human driver of a car before she was struck by a cruise car. Cruise officials said they are working with state and federal regulators, as well as identifying potential safety enhancements. Live in the newsroom, greg lee, ktvu fox two news gasia.
