In israel and ukraine. Help us build a world that is safer, more peaceful and more prosperous for our children and grandchildren. The president calling the us Financial Support vital for american security. Good evening, everyone. Im mike mibach. And im heather holmes. President biden says that those conflicts overseas could spread to other parts of the world, threatening many democracies. The president says he will officially ask congress for that additional funding tomorrow. The package will include 14 billion for israel and the war against hamas, 60 billion for ukraine. An as well as 10 billion for various humanitare efforts here in the us. The president is asking for 14 billion that would go to the Us Mexico Border and fighting the fentanyl crisis plus 7 billion for the indo pacific region, which includes taiwan. Foxs Caroline Shively joins us now live from washington with more on the president s request. Good evening, heather. President bidens speech follows his high profile wartime visit to israel, where he promised israelis they would never be alone for as long as the us stands. Tonight, he called america a beacon to the world. And in his oval office address, the president pledged emergency funding for israel to fight its war against the hamas militants who launched a deadly surprise attack on october 7th. And billions more for military aid for ukraine as it fights its own grinding war against russia. President biden said that protecting our allies is a cornerstone of american security. He called the us the essential nation that will help build a world that is safer and more peaceful. History has taught us that when terrorists dont pay a price for their terror, when dictators dont pay a price for their aggression, they cause more chaos and death and more destruction. They keep going. And the cost and the threats to america and the world keep rising in. President biden also said the us supports the rights of the palestine people and expressed sympathy for the plight of civilians in a humanitarian crisis in gaza. We cannot give up on peace. We cannot give up on a two state solution. Israel and palestine equally deserve to live in safety, dignity and peace. The president added that the us has not forgotten the horrors of the ukraine war. The mass graves and children stolen from their parents, he said. Russian president Vladimir Putin wont stop at ukraine if he is allowed to achieve his goals there. But the commander in chief said us troops will not be sent into the conflict. The white house is expected to formally request more than 100 billion in emergency funds from congress tomorrow, including 14 billion for israel and 60 billion for ukraine. President biden also made a passionate plea for tolerance here at home, citing a rise in antisemitism and islamophobia. He called on the American People to renounce violence and vitriol. Heather, back to you. Yeah, well see what happens next in congress. Caroline shively reporting live for us. Thank you. Well, we spoke to people tonight here in the bay area to get their thoughts on the president s funding request and we found people had some mixed feelings with those that we talked to in alameda. I believe that the us should be supporting israel. I dont think we should be supporting israel at this point, but im. A free palestine at this point. I think what theyre doing is past the limits of what they believe is right, and its hard to say no because i know people need help. But that, you know, we also need help here. We have Homeless People right down the street. Now, a Quinnipiac University poll from earlier this week before the president s address tonight showed 76 of voters think that supporting israel is in the National Interest of the united states. Tonight, a candlelight vigil was held in San Francisco to honor the innocent lives lost in the middle east. This gathering organized by the owner of a restaurant there in the city who became stranded during that surprise assault by hamas militants. Ktvu zac sos live tonight in the mission where that vigil was held. Zach and interestingly, a number of the people attending tonights vigil telling me this is the first event tied to the ongoing conflict in israel that theyve wanted to attend. A prayer thursday for the innocent lives lost amid the ongoing conflict in israel. Ady margalit, the names of 100 israelis who were killed by hamas militants last week read aloud. Mahmoud saher tawil followed by the names of 100 palestine civilians whove died in gaza, caught in the middle of the israeli armys response to the terrorist attacks. I feel like i have not actually been able to feel a lot in the last week. The candlelight vigil hosted by Manny Yekutiel outside his restaurant in San Franciscos mission district, yehuda was visiting family in israel as the attacks unfolded. I havent actually been able to feel sad and or grief or actually imagine the people that didnt deserve to die and who are gone. The vigil and opportunity for him and others to finally process their emotions is, you know, i feel a certain helplessness. Among those drawn to the vigil who say they had been struggling to find a safe place to mourn without picking sides, i do have a complicated response on both sides, and i, too, felt safe coming here. This is the first thing ive come to. Mardi goddard, joined by her friend karen strauss. I have very complicated feelings about israel as an American Jewish person. The devastating, callous attack on people in israel have been upsetting to me and People Living in gaza dont deserve to be attacked the way that they are being attacked. Amid days of divisive rhetoric, i hope that this gathering will spur others to follow their lead. There needs to be more dialog. There needs to be more civilized debate and comfort with hearing things that youre not happy to hear. I hope that moving forward , theres a belief that theres a Common Future that people can live together and i also asked several people here about their thoughts about Governor Newsoms planned visit to israel. Many, including that last man i spoke to, saying they hope the governor might be able to perhaps bring fresh ideas to the table on how to pursue peace. Mike. All right, zach sauce, live there in San Francisco tonight. Zach thank you. And Governor Newsom is set to arrive in israel tomorrow for this one day visit. The governor said he will be meeting with those affected by the quote, horrific terrorist attacks and offering californias support. That includes sending medical supplies to the region. The Governors Office has not released any specific details on his itinerary. While in israel following that visit, he will continue on with his scheduled trip to china. Now the protesters came together at the Federal Building on seventh street at 3 00 this afternoon. They say they would not leave until congresswoman nancy pelosi signs a resolution now circulating in Congress Supporting an immediate cease fire in gaza. This is one of the worst attacks that ive seen. This is the worst attack in my lifetime. And i see like the neck is literally happening in front of our eyes on live tv. Protect ourselves by putting our hands over our neck and going under our desk. We go under the lunch tables outside and but if were inside, we just go under our desks. Great idea, especially for the kids to know how to handle themselves during an earthquake. As a parent, were not there when things happen. Earthquake preparedness is especially important, as we all know here in the bay area, since we live along both the hayward and san andreas faults. All right. Despite the early wake up call, a pretty nice day out there as it brought a lot of people out to the coast. And while officials issued a High Surf Advisory that did not stop these individuals from heading off to beaches, mavericks out near Half Moon Bay was a very popular spot for surfers and joined that big swell and really taking advantage of the conditions out there as well as putting on a show for those out there on the shore. Todays announcement from the feder unifieds proposed mandate that would require school staff to notify parents when a student identifies as transgender. The supporters, including the School Board President , then discussed gender nonconformity as a Mental Illness as those against the policy at that meeting argued that it was unconscious, emotional, violating a students right to privacy while the judge today ruled against the notification mandate, but did allow part of the policy which notifies guardians when a student tries to change information on their official records. San francisco Assemblyman Phil Ting authored the bill. He says it puts in place a template from the peace officer standards and training state guidelines which agencies can use if they are not able to create their own hate crime tracking system. Law enforcement agencies will need to have the new hate crime classifications in place by july. Now, Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell warns that the central bank might not be finished raising Interest Rates just yet. His remarks today appeared to push back against Market Expectations that the Central Banks rate hikes had reached an end. But powell acknowledged that rising treasury yields were likely helping the fed in its ongoing battle against inflation. My colleagues and i remain resolute in our commitment to returning inflation to 2 over time. A range of uncertainties, both old ones and new ones, complicate our task of balancing the risk of tightening Monetary Policy too much against the risk of tightening too little. The fed is scheduled to meet two more times this year in november and december. Still to come tonight. A Bay Area Transit Agency speaking out over concerns of targeted violence in connection to the war in the middle east. Its message for riders. Despite the state department announcing thursday theres the potential for terror attacks or violence against americans, those traveling overseas are urged to use extreme caution. It is like a little bit shocking. Mahesh nigam got the news on his watch. Hes worried about the vagueness of the alert with the state department not naming any particular country or area of concern. But its scary as someone that travels like i was in singapore like three weeks ago, i was in india two weeks ago. So yes, it is a little, i would say upsetting. Theres nothing visible at sfo to alert passengers boarding international flights. Most passengers we spoke with hadnt even heard about it. I have not ritwik lodhia of San Francisco is traveling to portugal with his wife but thinks theyll be safe. Everyone he has a heightened level of alert. I feel more secure. Others dont seem concerned. Its not scary. I mean, its didnt like disappoint me. Its tragic what happens down there, but i hope it doesnt affect my travel plans. Now, the state department is actually encouraging people to take part in the step program. Thats the smart traveler enrollment program. If you take part in that, youll actually get alerts on security situations sent to you right away. Were live at sfo tonight. Joey hordijk, ktvu fox two news. All right, joey, thank you for that. Im still running for speaker and i plan to go to the floor and get the votes and win this race. In a swift reversal, congressman jim jordan told his fellow republicans hes not dropping out of the race for speaker of the house. A speaker has not been elected after opposition to the hardliners path to the gavel grew on the second ballot. Jordan reportedly said hed back a plan to give interim speaker Patrick Mchenry more power to end the deadlock. We made the pitch to members on the resolution as a way to lower the temperature and get back to work. We decided that wasnt where were going to go. Jordan must now try to convince the 22 members of his caucus who voted against him, concerned about his ties to former President Trump and his voting record. The house is going on 16 days without a speaker. The whole country, i think, would scream at matt gaetz right now. Remember, it was a crazy eights led by matt gaetz and every single democrat that put us into this situation. Weve never been in this situation before. Ousted speaker Kevin Mccarthy directing his anger at fellow republican congressman matt gaetz. Frustration mounting on both sides of the aisle as the house remains paralyzed, unable to move, legislate action. Now we have israel still at war. Questions whether congress can act. Questions where wed be able to go to select a new speaker. I mean, its a difficult situation driven by one person. They have a bit of a civil war inside their own conference. And we are essentially in a state of wait and see. But i have to tell you, it has been incredibly frustrating. South bay freshman congressman kevin mullin said democrats are open to a bipartisan solution and a compromise candidate with a Government Shutdown looming and a president ial request for billions of wartime aid for israel and ukraine. Mullen said the clock is ticking. Quick question, will all this stuff fit in your car . should i get rid of the mug . Bmo a project thats now getting worldwide attention. They designed posters showing all of the hostages kidnaped in israel as ktvu dan rubin explains, those posters are now turning up on streets from San Francisco to palo alto. In palo alto. These posters are plastered all over. On each, the face of an israeli hostage. When you see many of them all next to each other and its all different people. Youre like, whoa, what happened . What happened is a project called kidnaped in israel. Its the brainchild of two artists in new york city. Together, we decided to create something that we can actually do with our hands and with our bodies because we felt so helpless. So we designed those posters. At first they say no one wanted to help put them up, but soon their project went viral with volunteers hanging posters from europe to australia. Those are amazing people that just pick up our call for help and just took it with their own hands. Very. Its very emotional. The goal, they say, is to keep the faces of 200 hostages in the public eye and to push those in power to bring them home to israel. This is our only purpose. Its not a Political Movement at all. We just need the help of the public to put some pressure. But for all the support theyve received, there have also been problems as people have been spotted tearing the posters down. Youre not tearing down a poster that says like, i support israel. Like youre tearing down an individual life. And supporters say as you go about your day, its important to be reminded of those who cant. This is not something that, like, happened and its done. Its still happening. And i think thats why its important to see it. Volunteers plan to keep replacing the torn down posters and putting up new ones until those hostages come home in palo alto.
