Its now up to 1. 4, 4 billion opera of springfield, San Francisco, is holding a final farewell to senator Dianne Feinstein today. The major change in plans for a Memorial Service thats expected to bring everyone from the Vice President to senator feinstein, his family and friends to city hall. Plus, day two of the Largest Health care strike in us history is underway now where negotiations stand between Kaiser Permanente and Health Care Workers. This morning and the impact on kaiser members. Then another professional Sports League appears to be headed to the bay area. What to expect from todays big announcement from the Golden State Warriors from ktvu, fox two news. This is mornings on two. Thank you so much for being here. Im Gasia Mikaelian and good morning. Im dave clark. Welcome to thursday, october 5th. Welcome to you as well. This was rough sleeping weather last night. Ill be honest. Well, steves trying to impress you. He knows you like hot weather. I mean, i know i said that, steve, but i did mean this hot. You did say something, though, once the sun sets, at least it starts to drop versus, you know, june, july and august when it sits there. But thats true. But its going to be hot today. Theres no way around it here. Berkeley lab, which is at 880ft here, is 75 degrees. Thats really warm for them. So theres some extremely warm air aloft. Ben lomond mountain, also 70, mt. Veeder is 70. All locations. As i was looking up in the hills, have a slight east or northeast breeze. Its going to be hot today for berkeley, for oakland and emeryville, San Francisco and much of the coast. I would think 50 60s on the temps here. We are looking for too hot for some. So so you got to run for shade later today. Thats what ill be doing. Dave because its out of my comfort zone. But if you like this then enjoy. Because 90s on all these. All right. Sals here. 702. Where do you want to go . Bridge freeway. What . I want to go home and listen to my kool and the gang collection. So what i want to do, i do too. Yeah i want to begin at the bridge. Steve. Lets go right to the bay bridge and you can see traffic is going to be backed up to the maze. Its clear, as steve said, we dont have any fog or visibility problems and the traffic is about normal. Its going to be crowded, although we dont have any huge delays. When you get places. Highway four is slow, 80 as slow as it normally is. You know, i like these normal ish commutes. You know what youre going to get. We have another update in just a few at 703. Lets get back to the desk. All right, sal, thank you. Well, the stages are already set up outside of San Francisco city hall for todays special Memorial Service for senator Dianne Feinstein. Ktvus ali rasmus is already there to show us what it looks like. The roads that are closed and what you need to know about a change of plans for what was supposed to be a public memorial. Good morning, ali. Good morning, dave. Well, we can see a double barricades here behind us on polk street right outside San Francisco city hall. And beyond that, dozens of rows of chairs, some portable bathrooms, some tents set up, along with two stages right on the front steps of San Francisco city hall. This is the set up for what was supposed to be a public memorial for senator Dianne Feinstein. But as of last night, the Senators Office sent out a note saying this memorial is now only open to invited guests because of security concerns. They didnt elaborate on what those concerns were specifically, but we know that Vice PresidentKamala Harris, Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer, are expected to speak at this event several us senators and members of congress are expected to be in attendance. So this may have been a situation where the secret service and National Security stepped in to close off access. But hundreds of people did have a chance to say goodbye to the late senator yesterday at San Francisco city hall. The senators flag draped casket lie in state in the city hall rotunda for most of the day. Yesterday, well known national and political figures came to pay their respects, including dr. Anthony fauci and speaker emerita nancy pelosi. Hundreds of the senators constituents who didnt know feinstein personally but appreciated her work. Also came through to say goodbye. The visitation was supposed to end at seven in the evening yesterday, but the line of people wrapped around city hall and down the block. Feinstein staff and her family decided to keep the visitation going for another hour. So everyone had a chance to come through. It was such an inspiration and a role model for many people, and especially women. And so im here to show my respect. Shes just done so much that this is a rare opportunity to get to pay respects to somebody whos been so impactful. She did things on her own terms, but she always did them with gentleness. The San Francisco gay mens chorus performed at the visitation in the rotunda yesterday as feinsteins daughter, granddaughter and family and friends stood by. Now, after people stopped by the flag draped casket, hundreds in line went on to sign a condolence book that will be given to feinsteins family. And today, another event to say a final goodbye. The memorial for Dianne Feinstein will happen here in front of San Francisco city hall outdoors, 1 00 this afternoon. Again it is no longer open to the general public. It is now because of Security Issues restricted only to people with a badge or an invitation sign. Instead, officials are asking people who want to watch this, to watch it online or watch it on a screen in ktvu will be showing it as well. Instead of coming down here in person. And we just saw some of the San Francisco police and other security around here telling us to move farther away from this point. So theyre going to be locking down and closing off access to a broader area near San Francisco city hall. Live in San Francisco, ali rasmus, ktvu fox two news. Ali, thank you. Be sure to join ktvu today. Stay with us as the nation bids a final farewell to the late senator Dianne Feinstein. Our coverage begins at noon on ktvu and on ktvu. Com. It will continue with the special Memorial Service beginning at 1 p. M. Happening now, day two of the Kaiser Permanente medical workers strike here in the bay area and across the country. Workers have been gathering at kaiser facilities, including in walnut creek. Those on the picket line say they need fair salaries and more staffing. They say they feel overwhelmed, overworked and say that leaves patients under served constantly short stop. And were constantly having to close rooms. So theres times where theres not enough staff to fill in all the operating rooms. So then we delay it. So its delayed patient care. The staffing crisis is very serious and i have to listen to them tell me they think theyre going to lose a foot. They think they have diabetes or they think theyre going to die before a patient, before theyre able to see a doctor. Its really sad. Kaiser says that both sides have reached a tentative agreement on several issues and says the company is trying to reconvene bargaining as soon as possible. Kaiser is offering a maximum of 4 Salary Increases for each year of a four year deal. The union wants a 6. 5 raise for each of the first two years, then a 5. 75 jump in each of the final two years. Workers are picketing this morning at Kaiser Permanente facilities in southern california. The three day strike affects medical centers in california, oregon, washington, colorado, virginia and the district of columbia. Most of the workers who walked off the job, though, are here on the west coast. Kaiser says it centers are open, but some nonemergency and elective procedures may be rescheduled due to the work stoppage. Out of caution, union issued this statement. Frontline Health Care Workers are awaiting a meaningful response from kaiser executives regarding some of our key priorities, including safe staffing, outsourcing protections for incumbent Health Care Workers and fair wages to reduce turnover, Health Care Workers within the coalition remain ready to meet at any time. Currently, the strike continues and there are no sessions scheduled at this hour. All right, guys, your time is 708. The strike by the United Auto Workers union against the big three car companies. Its going into its third week now. Neither side giving us any details, but the associated Associated Press has been told there have been meaningful progress in those negotiations. Earlier this week, ford said it offered its full time, permanent employees a 20 pay raise. The union is making no comment. But workers out on the picket line were happy to talk about it. So if they say theyre going to give us a 20 pay raise, thats 5 over the life of the contract , which is four years, the last contract was 3. Is that an improvement . Absolutely is it enough . No no. Right now, the strike is limited to five Car Assembly Plants and 38 parts warehouses. Tomorrow, the head of the uaw is expected to announce if the strike will expand to more facilities. There are reports the negotiations between the uaw and stellantis are the nearest to an agreement and talks with General Motors have been the hardest Staff Members in the San FranciscoUnified School District have authorized a strike if they cant reach a deal on a new contract. Some 900 service employees. Rouz paraeducators and custodians, have been negotiating with the district on a new contract. The union says almost all of its members voted wednesday in favor of a strike. The biggest Sticking Point here is pay. The union says many workers struggle to live in San Francisco on their current salaries. School district officials released a statement that said in part, sfusd remains committed to negotiating in good faith with our labor partners. And San Francisco unified has 16 bargaining units and is committed to a budget process that prioritizes, raises Financial Decisions that most directly benefit student experiences. Well, this is exciting. 710 happening today. The Golden State Warriors expected to make a major announcement about a new sports team that would call the bay area its home court and ktvu Bailey Ocarroll is in the studio now. There are indications this announcement will be about an expansion wnba team coming to the bay area. Thats what sources say. So excitement kind of brewing here this morning. Some good news, some welcome news. The warriors are expected to announce the first wnba Expansion Team since 2008. That team will be housed right here in the bay. Now, according to a source, the team will be headquartered in oakland, but theyll play their games at the chase center in San Francisco just last week, the warriors told us that they have had productive conversations with wnba execs about the possible expansion. But its important to note this would not be warriors owner joe. Warriors owner joe lacobs first time dabbling in womens professional basketball. Excuse me basketball. He owned the san jose lazers in the american basketball league, which went under and folded in 1998. Jennifer azzi, a former member of that team, also went to stanford and played there. Now with the las vegas aces front office told ktvu that the Expansion Team would be a huge step forward for this league. Certainly he has a passion for the sport. All the great work that hes done with the warriors and i think its the right time. For seven years, nba commissioner said earlier this year that any new owner would need to be viewed as a long Term Investor in the team, have top notch facilities and value player experience, the warriors reported checking all of those boxes is now on top of that. Theres already a Strong Female fan base here with stanford and cal, of course, not far away. But again, this deal not yet officially official, but an announcement is expected to come later today. Back to you guys. Its 712. Thank you, bailey. Its 712 and we have a problem on the peninsula i want to tell you about if youre trying to get a class, a class, a flight, now youre trying to get a class at the airport. That wouldnt work. But if youre trying to catch a flight, you shouldnt use one on one out of San Francisco because of a crash southbound 101 at the south city exit just after grande there or before grand. So if youre driving down the peninsula, perhaps you use 280 to 380. That would be a great way to get around it. This crash involves an suv and a Motorcycle Oil and the paramedics are there. Fire department arriving on the scene. Again southbound 101. As you drive to south city. Lets talk about the san mateo bridge getting over to the peninsula. That traffic looks okay. And at the bay, bridge toll plaza, it is backed up from the maze to the metering lights. Its about a 10 to 15 minute wait at 713. Lets get back to the desk. All right, sal, thank you. The surge in the Nations Capital for the next speaker of the house goes on this morning. Well tell you why experts say picking 1st may take a while. He was swimming on sunday when witnesses say he was attacked by a shark. His body still has not been found. Angie is originally from gambia. He came here to the us to study computer engineering. Were learning more about the san jose Home Daycare Center where two little girls drowned earlier this week. State inspectors have visited the happy, happy home daycare on fleetwood drive eight times in the past three years. Records show the business had been cited six times, including one citation last month for a failure to check on infants every 15 minutes while they slept. There were also concerns about the backyard pool, including windows that had access to the pool and problems with the fencing regulators say the pool problems were fixed in 2021. The National DrowningPrevention Alliance says the presence of a pool is always a risk, but theres not one single solution thats going to completely eliminate the risk. We talk about a multi stage intervention strategy. San jose police and state regulators are still investigating the drownings and wont comment on their case until the investigation is finished, which could take months. Well, gasia millions of children could soon lose their places at Daycare Centers all over the country because federal funding that was provided during the pandemic has ended. The money was used to keep the doors open at Daycare Centers so parents could keep working. But without that extra money, an estimated 200,000 child care providers could go out of business without daycare. Some of those parents might have to leave their jobs. There are so many people that they dont have a grandma or an aunt or a cousin or anybody that can, you know, be a consistent person to watch their child every day. If the daycare workers say the centers provide more than a place for kids to go, many provide three meals a day, as well as education and emotional support. San francisco is asking the Supreme Court to overturn a ruling on homelessness. The federal Appeals Court ruling requires local governments to offer shelter before clearing an encampment. The city attorney, david chu, said the ruling limits the citys efforts to address the homelessness crisis. The court says it will consider whether to take up the case later this month. Well fleet week continues today. Another chance for you to take a tour of those active military ships. Tours will take place between 10 00 this morning and 6 00 tonight. Its a busy one this thursday, isnt it, sal . It is. And if youre leaving San Francisco, go there. Gasia and dave southbound 101 is a mess. Almost right out the gate there. Right out of the gate. And if you are driving to the airport, i would suggest using 280 to 380 and then getting to the airport that way. Dont go on 101. Theres a big backup because of a motorcycle accident. The injuries are not said to be serious, but the traffic sure is. Look at this whole traffic right there. So if you give yourself plenty of time, go around and do this essentially and get back on 101 that way. And youll save yourself plenty of time. Lets talk about some of the bridges, the san mateo bridge and the dumbarton bridge are looking pretty good. Bay bridge is backed up to the maze, checking in with the Richmond Bridge. Theres a backup there which is big and in the south bay, were beginning to get slow traffic on 85, 87 to 80 and 101 720. Lets talk about todays weather. Heres steve. Sal, thank you kindly. Unfortunately currently the official site in San Francisco at mint hill stopped reporting yesterday at 5 43 p. M. When it was 86 degrees. And sutro tower was kind enough to say it needed a break after this heat wave. Thank you. Sutro tower. I appreciate that. It was hot yesterday. It will be even hotter. Napa airport, east wind occasionally. Thatll do it. 94. San jose. Santa cruz. Palo alto, san rafael, sfo. All in the low 90s. All of those locations were hotter than concord and livermore. Its that time of year. Is that kind of a pattern . Oakland was 88in the city. Officials i guess was 8086 even though it stopped transmitting data. The berkeley lab is just thats thats warm 74 degrees. Mt. Veeder 70. Ben lomond mountains 70 all with an east or a northeast breeze up we go. Today will probably be the hottest day. If not then tomorrow. I do think some relief is on the way for the weekend, though. But i went 93, 90, 93, 94 for san rafael. San francisco, livermore and san jose. Up we go through friday. I think though, sunday will be the day when temps really start to take a drop. And if youre wondering about fleet week today and tomorrow, no concerns except heat saturday, lots of sun. But i do think cooler on sunday. You guys. Steve, thank you. The overseas seafood industry could take another hit. Welcome back to mornings on two. Im dave clark. Im Gasia Mikaelian. Its thursday, october fifth. Lets see if were going to maybe put the ac on in the Late Afternoon hours. Oh, gosh, please. Its already set. Done. Okay at least for most. In fact, some people dont have it on the coast in the city, and i understand that. But today is going to be a hot one. Its already 68 in San Francisco. Palo alto is 54, yet san jose is 66. And thats at san jose state meteorology department. I tend to use them, but its too hot for some. Maybe some of you like it, some of you dont. Let me be clear because it is. You got to run for shade today because it will be warmer for all and temperatures i went 90s across the board. All right. Its time to get down on it with the traffic. And our good friend mr. Sal castaneda. Youre not getting fresh with me, are you, steve . Well, some people cherish that traffic, sal. Thats right. All right. Yes, it is. Good morning, everyone. You know what . If you are driving on the south bay, all of a sudden the freeways are busy. Thats not unusual. But right now it is. And thats a different artist all entirely. But northbound to 85 is very slow. What we dont have is any major slow traffic in the south bay. We do have traffic that is getting busier. I want to mention that southbound 101 through south San Francisco is a mess and that alternate route i told you about last time, well, people have figured it out. Suddenly up to 80 is very slow. So if you are in San Francisco and you need to catch a flight at sfo, dont be late. The freeways are very jammed. 731 lets go back to the desk. San francisco will be the site of longtime california senator Dianne Feinsteins final farewell today. Plans for a public Memorial Service, though, have changed the service is now private and by invitation only, well turn to ctvs christian captain live outside San Francisco city hall. That building hosted hundreds for a viewing yesterday, christian. And lets look ahead also to whats coming this afternoon. Oh, yeah, that public funeral is set to take place here on the front steps of San Franciscos city hall. Very fitting considering the fact that the late senator was mayor of the city for ten years from 1978 to 1988. Now, the general Public Funeral Service is expected to draw large crowds, as well as political heavy hitters. We are expecting Vice PresidentKamala Harris to arrive later today. Nancy pelosi was at yesterdays viewing and will likely be here, as well as San Francisco and the nation. Say goodbye to senator feinstein. All of this means that the city will be complicated to get around today. The public is being urged, of course, to use Public Transit if they would like to attend todays public memorial and funeral service. Both streets in the area are closed down. Mcallister, an and polk both closed down near city hall for security reasons, including the entire area here in front of San Franciscos city hall. That Memorial Service set to get underway at 1 p. M. And set to run for about an hour. Now, we are already in position, as you can see, and well work to bring you the very latest from this Memorial Service. Also bring to you what the late senators family, friends and colleagues are saying, as well as, of course, the general public. As you might imagine, there was a great deal of raw emotion in San Francisco yesterday, as the city says farewell to one of its favorite daughters. We were able to talk not only to politicians who were reacting to the passing of the late senator, but also the general public, people who had never met her before, talking about how deep an impact she had on their lives. The very real and very personal connection they say they felt with them. So we are expected the proverbial packed house here at Civic Center Plaza in front of San Franciscos city hall. For now, we are live Christien Kafton ktvu fox two news. Kristen, thank you. And as christian said, Vice PresidentKamala Harris as well as several members of congress are expected to be at this afternoons Memorial Service. Be sure to stay right here with ktvu today as the nation says, a final farewell to senator feinstein. Ktbs coverage begins at noon and it continues with the Memorial Service beginning at 1 p. M. Many spoke about senator feinstein during an outdoor luncheon near San Franciscos union square. Johns grill provided lunch for the community to celebrate 115 years in business. The restaurant has long been a place where elected officials gather. The owner saved a seat for senator feinstein, former mayor willie brown said the late senator was one of the regulars. Dianne would be here today about to have lunch and about to tell some story of her experiences. Senator feinstein was a regular at johns grill for decades. She has her photo up on the wall. We have a tribute for her today. The restaurant put flowers on a table by a photo of the late senator. Dignitaries and elected officials who came to wish johns grill a happy anniversary. Also reflected on senator feinsteins impact on San Francisco, a huge reason why i even decided to run for office stemmed on a conversation that she had with my third grade class. She said to my class, she said, im the only woman thats running and perhaps the next woman that wants to run for office is in this class. Customers said the senators legacy will live on, will live on johns grill, said its purveyors largely donated. The supplies for yesterdays lunch event. Our time now. 735. The house of representatives in the Nations Capital is right now at a standstill until a new speaker of the house is elected to replace kevin mccarthy. Now, political experts predict this wont happen anytime soon. In fact, next week, republicans reportedly will hold a forum for the candidates for speaker each candidate will need weeks to talk, to persuade, to work out deals with other house members to come up with the 218 votes needed to become speaker of the house. Are you ready to say youre officially running for speaker . We havent sent anything out formally, but we will. Well, here is a list of potential candidates for speaker of the house. The current majority leader, Steve Scalise of louisiana, is considered the favorite. Ohio congressman jim jordan is a favorite among conservative hardliners. Oklahoma congressman kevin hern started his career by running several mcdonalds restaurant. Hes a wealthy conservative, not as well known as the others. North carolinas Patrick Mchenry is the current house pro tem speaker of the house pro tem and Kevin Mccarthys close friend from oklahoma, tom cole, is also on the list. Oh, and then there is the wild card. Former president donald trump. People have been calling me about speaker. All i can say is well do whatever is best for the country and for the republican party. Would you take a job and we point out the speaker of the house does not have to be a member of the house, but republicans would still have to change the rules that right now ban anyone from leadership whos under a felony indictment. New this morning, japans Nuclear Authorities say that a second release of treated radioactive wastewater from fukushima is underway. The japanese government says it will take decades to treat and release all the water that was contaminated after the 2011 earthquake. And tsunami. China has placed a ban on all seafood imports from japan over health concerns, despite reassurances from tokyo. Fishers have seen their product prices drop sharply because they cant sell their catches in as many markets as the First Release of wastewater into the Pacific Ocean lasted 19 days. The current one is expected to take 17 marin. All right. Gasia time. 737 right back to sal. Youve been busy this morning. A lot happening on our roads. Yeah the biggest thing is leaving San Francisco. So if youre trying to get to the airport southbound 101 is going to be slow because of a crash in south city at the south city exit. Now check all the slow traffic out. It is very slow heading south out of San Francisco from almost the old candlestick exit. If you drive on to 80 south out of daly city, its also pretty slow as people have heard about this. 380 is also very slow. So this whole thing getting to the airport, dont be late for that flight, getting to sfo because youre driving or even your uber is going to be late. You might want to think about using bart, which of course is not affected by anything on the road here. This is a look at the san mateo bridge. That traffic is okay. Bay bridge toll plaza backed up to the maze. Metering lights are on. No problems on the actual span. 738. Lets bring steve in with todays weather. Sal thank you, sir. Well look at the temps from yesterday. Boy, they jumped, didnt they . They did yesterday. I mean, monday, tuesday. Werent that bad. It was a big jump yesterday because of that east wind kicked in napa airport was 94. San jose, 92, santa cruz, also 92. Palo alto, 91, san rafael and sfo both 90. Wheres concord and livermore . They were they were 89 and 87, which is why i didnt put them on the panel. But i did put oakland at 88in San Francisco at 86 and that was at 5 43 p. M. Unfortunately, the thermometer, the information stopped there. Theres been no update from San Francisco for the official site since then. So it might have been even warmer. I went warmer today. I mean, 74. Let me make not to offend anybody, make sure im technically correct here. The Lawrence BerkeleyNational Laboratory is 74 warm degrees at and they all have some kind of component of an east wind or a northeast wind and its warm aloft, thats for sure. So san rafael, San Francisco, livermore and san jose up. Do we go the one im not 100 confident is livermore because i they might come in at 90. This is all wind driven much different than what we see in june, july and august. I went 90 in the city. I just dont think youre getting around it today. Fleet week good today good tomorrow. Warm to hot little cooler on saturday, but still okay. Much cooler, though , on sundays. The way its looking, if theres any fog saturday, itd be that one that comes through the golden gate and travels over towards towards the rock. Very shallow, but i dont think itll impact the pilots and anything but maybe sunday see an east wind northeast wind. I mean its not strong thats the good news. But boy, ill tell you, it makes a huge difference when that east winds in place, 64, 68, 67, 67. Thats 68 at ocean beach. Thats pretty warm. Twin peaks is 67. So thats some warm air and theres just not much of a breeze at the surface. But you know, in the higher elevations, we are getting that easterly or northeasterly breeze 60s on the temps for many 50s for some, the high, though, winds out today, tomorrow and probably most of saturday. Sunday, the cooling starts monday, much cooler. Look at this tuesday, rain coming in. Well see if it makes it. But theyve actually upped some totals now. Again, probably be marin county, north, but five days away in the next couple of days. Its all about sunshine and warm to hot conditions, especially the coast. I mean, you know, if youve been used to 65 or 64 for about 3 or 4 months and now its 84 or 90, thats thats hot. So almost isothermal here. Temperatures are all very similar. Friday, about the same slight cooling, i think on the coast saturday, cooler sunday, much cooler monday. All right, steve, time is 741. Were getting new information about how some bay area home buyers are able to afford a down payment in this expensive market. Well tell you why the gap between buyers may grow even more. Sal garcia, San Francisco. You know, i think a lot of people may be in town for the feinstein memorial and, you know, theres just a lot of activity at the airport. Well, if youre trying to get to the airport this morning, it is tough. Southbound 101. They cleared a motorcycle crash. We have traffic backed up into San Francisco heading down the peninsula to the airport to 80, is backed up out of daly city, down to san bruno. Dont be caught by surprise. And if youre getting to the airport, there is a slowdown on northbound 101. As soon as you get out because of this crash, people are just looking over to the other side of the freeway, san mateo bridge is okay. The bay bridge is about at normal getting into San Francisco. I do want to talk about that. Silicon valley commute heading in west to sunnyvale, cupertino and palo alto is traditionally slow. This morning is no exception 751 lets talk about todays weather. Heres steve. Sal. Thank you, sir. Clear skies and a little bit of an easterly or northerly direction is going to make for almost isothermal temps here. I think temps on the coast and inland really wont be separated by that much today. The good news is the wind speeds are not that strong. Hold on a minute. See, sometimes i try and do too much for you folks and i get caught and ill do it right now. Here i have to wait for the computer to load. Come on. Come on. There you go. See the wind speeds. Not that strong, but they are no doubt about it, east or northeast. And thats going to make for some warm conditions, especially in San Francisco. I went 90 for a high. I would not be surprised if oakland gets in there as well. Maybe 84, 85 and Half Moon Bay. So i mean, you take your pick anyway. Point rays bodega bay down to santa cruz are going to be going to be in the 80s to near 90 degrees today as the way it looks to me. Truckee 30, south lake tyler 31. Cool there. Crescent city at one time this morning was 72. There now 54. I call that a wind shift, no doubt. Monterey is already 68. The high builds in for a couple of days now. Its going to last here probably for a couple of days here, but then itll start to move inland. And thats a system dropping down out of the gulf of alaska, which is going to be here late monday into tuesday. Thats a cold front. And that might might give us some rain. Itll usher in a significant cooldown, i think starting sunday into monday. Then the high will build back in. But some of the forecast models have upped the rainfall. Not much, but a little bit. On monday night into tuesday. So if you want warm weather, the next couple of days are for you. If you wanted cooler, you dont have to wait long. Itll be here sunday, monday and tuesday. Today, though, it will probably if today isnt the hottest day, itll be tomorrow after that, i do think well see slight cooling on saturday, but its about a lot of 90 today, more so on friday and then still warm to hot inland saturday, cooler sunday, much cooler monday. Gaussian all right. See her time now. 753. A major announced expected today about bringing a new sports team to the bay area. Well tell you what we know about the plans to expand the wnba. The thats coming up at 8 00. Plus, the family of a four Year Old Girl who died in a tragic bike accident in oakland says the city of oakland is making safety changes with the family. Says city officials have promised to do in 2020, say they want more accountability from those who were directly involved in the death of their loved ones. The chp said it will pay a 7 million settlement to eric salgados family. Salgado was 23 years old. He was killed by chp officers during an attempted traffic stop in oakland. Investigators say he was driving a stolen car and was heading toward those officers when they opened fire on him. Attorneys for the salgado family say he was only trying to leave the area. Both of the people were unarmed and most of the shots came from the back, which indicates to me that they didnt want him to get away. May not that he was a threat to them. Now, salgados girlfriend was seriously hurt in the shooting. Her unborn child did not survive. Now his family wants the Alameda CountyDistrict Attorney to charge the three officers involved. I think all officers involved in my brothers killing or murder should be held accountable. So, you know, i have optimism. Im going to keep fighting whenever you know, i literally feel like i have no choice here. Then District AttorneyNancy Omalley found the Police Officers did not break the law by firing into that car. The sister of salgado says family plans another rally to try to get the case back on the radar of the current District Attorney, as well as state attorney general rob bonta. Our time is 758. The family of a four Year Old Girl who died in a bike accident at lake merritt in oakland says the city of oakland has been responding to their demands for new and improved bike safety. The family of maia correa says theyve met with mayor shang tao and other city officials and say the city has made a commitment to add a two way protected bike lane on the east side of lake merritt and move up the citys bike lane renovation plan from the year 2027 to the fall of next year. The good thing about that is that we are actually going to be meeting with them quarterly. The more weve sat down and thought about it. Maia is death was fully prevented. Well, now four year old maia correa was riding on the back of her fathers bike in a child seat back in august when someone who was in a parked car opened their car door into the path of that bike, knocking them to the ground. She later died from her injuries. Time now. 759 People Living on maui want the governor of hawaii to delay plans to reopen the western part of that island to tourists. The governor, josh green, has said the area affected by the Deadly Wildfires in august will reopen sunday to tourists. Dozens of people gathered at the State Capitol in honolulu on tuesday trying to deliver a petition to the governor. Community organizers took the box to the governors door, but his staff said he was not there to accept their petition. Representatives from west maui and lahaina strong activist group, they were there and said it is too early for tourism. Majority of the people, if they want to go back to work, its because they have that fear and uncertainty about moving forward. If there was financial relief, they could be out serving their own community instead of serving tourists. Its just baffling to me. We didnt even get a chance to speak for ourselves. You know, the decisions that are being made for this october eighth reopening will ultimately affect us. So shouldnt we be consulted with and so far, 14,000 people have signed the petition. They realize halfway home and we are ours away from a Memorial Service for the late senator Dianne Feinstein is expected to bring everyone from the Vice President to senator feinsteins family and friends. But i dont think its today or friday, saturday i do. But temperatures, it wont take long with an east. Now, the good news is the north breeze is not that strong, but it doesnt take much. So its too hot for some, if you like, and enjoy the next couple of days. Let me be clear, because it is clear the shade will sound pretty good for some later today because its going to be warm. Too hot for all i went hot for all on this panel. 90s all right. So heres been kind of busy. 801. What are we looking for now . Yeah, were looking for you trying to get a flight at sfo. If youre in San Francisco or daly city or brisbane, its going to be tough. 101 is backed up into San Francisco to 80 is backed up now from daly city. This is because of a crash theyve had trouble getting it out of the way. Its still in the right lane in south San Francisco. A lot of people were using 280 and that is very slow. Its also slow northbound by the way, as soon as you get out of the airport, you are going to see slowing for a stretch there from san bruno to south city, san mateo bridge getting over to the peninsula is busy. The bay bridge is backed up to the maze 802. Lets get back to the headlines. Plans for a public Memorial Service for the late senator Dianne Feinstein have changed dramatically. The service will still be held at San Francisco city hall, but now its by invitation only. Ktvu allie rasmus live there now with the reason for the change. Allie and now hundreds of people have been paying their respects at city hall. Yes, gasia as you mentioned, the memorial for the late senator Dianne Feinstein no longer open to the general public, as was initially planned. In fact, in order to scan where we are, we had to get through several layers of security. Theres secret service out here, as well as local law enforcement. We can show you the scene out here right now where a few hours away from the start of this memorial at 1 00 this afternoon, theres media from around the world here, around the state. Theyve got several layers of barricades set up and several streets around San Francisco city hall are closed off. Now. Why was the change made to make this no longer a public memorial . We dont know specifically why, but senator feinsteins office sent out a memo yesterday saying that it would not be open to the public because of security concerns. We know that Vice PresidentKamala Harris is scheduled to speak at this memorial. So is Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer and others are expected from congress are expected to attend as well. All this comes after a big day yesterday, a day long visitation as feinsteins flagdraped casket lay in state at the rotunda at San Francisco city hall. Well known national and political figures yesterday came by to say their goodbyes, including dr. Anthony fauci and speaker emeritus nancy pelosi. But hundreds of the senators constituents who didnt know feinstein personally but appreciated her work also came through to pay their respects. The visitation was supposed to end at seven, but there were so many people still in line at that point that the family and organizers decided to keep the visitation going. Another hour as she was a great leader, a tremendous respect for her. She was also a fighter. She fought for her human rights, and i respect that. It was a huge honor and privilege to work for her. I met her when i was 15, and since that time ive had huge admiration and respect for her. So this is to pay tribute to a life well lived. The San Francisco gay mens chorus performed at the visitation in the rotunda yesterday as feinsteins daughter, granddaughter, family and friends stood by after people stopped and paused by that flag draped casket. Hundreds went on to sign a condolence book that will be given to feinsteins family. There was a line for that inside San Francisco city hall yesterday as well. And today, another event to say a final goodbye. Back out here live. We can show you the setup and the preparations already underway here for this memorial. That will happen at 1 00 this afternoon outside San Francisco city hall. They have tents, two stages set up, and rows of chairs in the middle of polk street. Be advised that many streets around San Francisco city hall have wrist precautions when it comes to driving or even walking in the area. No one can pass through polk street to get onto the other side because of the event happening today. So something you definitely want to be aware of. Organizers are hoping that members of the general public who want to see what happens here should instead watch online or ktvu will be covering this event as well. Gasia and andre back to you. Allie rasmus, thank you. We will carry senator feinsteins Memorial Service for you live here on ktvu and ktvu. Com. Our coverage starts at noon and continues with the service itself. We want kaiser executives to listen to us when it comes to short staffing and come to the table and bargain in good faith. Kaiser says both sides have reached a tentative agreement on several issues, and the company is trying to reconvene bargaining as soon as possible. Kaiser is offering a maximum of 4 Salary Increase for each year of a four year deal. The union wants a 6. 5 raise for each of the first two years and a 5. 75 jump in each of the final two years. Now, workers are also picketing this morning at Kaiser Permanente facility in southern california. This three day strike affects medical centers in california, oregon, washington state, colorado, virginia and the district of columbia. Most of the workers who walked off the job are on the west coast. Kaiser says its centers remain open, but some nonemergency and elective procedures may be rescheduled during the work stoppage. Out of caution. Now, the union issued this statement saying, quote, frontline Health Care Workers are awaiting a meaningful response from kaiser executives regarding some of our key priorities, including safe staffing, outsourcing protections for incumbent Health Care Workers and fair wages to reduce turnover. Health care workers within the coalition remain ready to meet at any time. Currently the strike continues and there are no sessions scheduled at this hour. There is now an investigation into how the School District handled the student complaints. Well, the Golden State Warriors are expected to make a big announcement today. Yes, the team is bringing a wnba Expansion Team to the bay area. Ctvs Bailey Ocarroll, she joins us now here in studio with the very latest on this. Bailey. Hey, guys. Lots of excitement already brewing about this expected announcement, which is expected to come later today. Now, this would be the first wnba Expansion Team since 2008. That team will join klay, steph, draymond and the rest of the warriors playing their home games at chase center in San Francisco. So the team will be headquartered in oakland. And now just last week, the warriors told us that they had had productive conversations with wnba execs about the possible expansion the team would undoubt ably be a big boost economically for the city and the warriors organization, but more importantly, it would give young women and female athletes a boost of confidence, sometimes hard to be able to watch something and not know that that can one day be you. But when you look at something and look like youre looking in the mirror, it creates more of confidence. And thats something that our young ladies need right now. On top of that, theres already a Strong Female fan base with stanford and cal, of course, right here in the bay area. The wnba commissioner said earlier this year that any new owner would need to be viewed as a long Term Investor in the Expansion Team. Have top notch facilities and value player experience. The warriors are reportedly checking all of those boxes. But again, this deal not officially official just yet, but that official announcement is expected to come later today. Sal, back to you. All right, bailey, its 811. And lets go right to some of the big issues that we have live on San Francisco, getting in, getting out. Bay bridge backed up to the maze. Thats normal. And then we have some slow traffic across other bay area bridges like the Richmond Bridge and the san mateo bridge. But leaving for the airport is a mess. We had a crash and they had a tough time clearing it. Southbound 101 in south San Francisco at that exit. And you can see traffic on 280 is now very slow. Some people even trying to take skyline. Thats when, you know, things are desperate. When people are taking roads that are not normally crowded. This has had a region wide effect on the commute heading south to the peninsula. All right. So if thats you, dont miss your flight, get on the road early or take public transportation. Well keep watching this. Its 812. Lets get back to the desk. All right. Thank you so much, sal. The search in the Nations Capital for the next speaker of the house continues. The reason why experts say selecting one might take a while. Were learning more about the san jose Home Daycare Center, where two infants drowned earlier this week. State inspectors have visited the happy, happy home daycare on fleetwood drive eight times in the past three years. Records show the business has been cited six times, including one citation. Last month for a failure to check on infants every 15 minutes when they were asleep. There were also concerns about the backyard pool, including windows that had access to the pool and problems with the fencing regulators say those pool problems were fixed in 2021. The National DrowningPrevention Alliance says that pools always come with inherent risks. S theres not one single solution thats going to completely eliminate the risk. We talk about a multi stage intervention strategy. San jose police and state regulators are investigating the drownings. They wont comment on the case until the investigation is finished and that could take months. Time now is 816 millions of children may soon lose their places at Daycare Centers across the country because federal funding provided during the pandemic has ended. The money was used to keep the doors open at centers so parents could keep working. But without that extra money, an estimated 200,000 child care providers could go out of business without daycare. Some of those parents might have to leave their jobs. There are so many people that they dont have a grandma or an aunt or a cousin or anybody that can, you know, be a consistent person to watch their child every day. Daycare workers say the centers provide more than a place for children to go. Many provide three meals a day as well as education and emotional support. San francisco is asking the Supreme Court to overturn a ruling on homelessness. The federal Appeals Court ruling requires local governments to offer shelter before clearing an encampment. Well, barts downtown san jose expansion is facing another very expensive delay. Transit Officials Say they need another ten years and 3 billion. Bart was scheduled to arrive in the south bay in 2026. The 16 mile extension project will include six stations from fremont to santa clara, but now that timeline has been pushed back to 2036. Despite this increase, the new figure remains within our funding plan due to strong support by locally supported sales tax measures and state and federal sources, as v. T. A. Blames the delays on project adjustments, inflations and rising labor and construction costs. Fleet week continues today, and theres another chance to take a tour of active military ships. The event is free, but reservations are required. The airshow is set to start tomorrow, of course, and theres a good chance youll see it here. The blue angels, as they practice over the bay today. All right. Sal is tracking traffic on dry land now. Here he is with a look at the roads this morning. Hey, sal. Hey, good morning, andre and garcia. Its not a great commute in and out of San Francisco for a variety of reasons. First of them being that motorcycle crash theyve had trouble clearing on 101 in south city and traffic is backed up from the 280 interchange to 80 itself is terrible. I mean, if you just look at this or go to your phone and look at this, youre going to say what in the world is happening . How am i going to get to the airport . My suggestion is to take part and remember, because of all the activity at city hall for the feinstein memorial, that area is not an area i would recommend driving in. Bart is a solution to both of these things. Bart goes to civic center. Bart goes to the airport. As you know, san mateo bridge looking better. Dumbarton bridge to we have the bay bridge, which is looking normal, getting into San Francisco. I want to mention that that Silicon Valley commute. Lets get to it. Silicon valley slow traffic, although its beginning to improve, getting up to sunnyvale and cupertino. 819 lets bring steve back in with todays weather. Thank you, kind sir. Yes, sir. All right. Well look at the highs yesterday because yesterday was a little different than what we usually see in the summer. Again again, i give up, tim. I give up. All right. Yesterday, i was a little different than what we see in the summer. Napa airport was the warmest here at 94 east wind did it. San jose has been running warm last couple of weeks, more so than other locations. Santa cruz, palo alto, san rafael, sfo were all warmer than concord and livermore. Oakland 88. San francisco said 86 at 5 43 p. M. Unfortunately, theres been no data since so they might have been warmer. I went warmer today just by the mere fact that the air aloft is warmer and theres still a slight east northeast breeze. Ben lomond mountain, 73 east wind berkeley lab, 73 southeast and mount veeder northeast at 1470. So up we go. San rafael, San Francisco, the one im not really sold on yet is livermore. They may check in only at 90. Thats just that kind of a pattern. Once you get to october. San jose though 94. But the city i went hot today and tomorrow. No no concerns for fleet week. Saturday could be a slight shallow marine layer say for underneath the golden gate out towards alcatraz. Dont think that will affect any of the flight concerns. But sunday , maybe. I think the bases of the fog come up and therell be a deeper fog bank, but nothing today or tomorrow. Not the good news is theres not a strong offshore wind thats we wont want that. But boy, ill tell you, it doesnt take much to get these kind of temperatures already in San Francisco, ocean beach is 70 upper 60s for many mid 60s. So theyre well on their way to a warm day. Normal 71 this time of year, 60 already on many of the temps here although its warmer at sfo mill valley, oakland and berkeley and Half Moon Bay than it is in brentwood and livermore and vacaville. Dont see that all the time. But you do in this pattern. 30s in the mountains, Crescent City has gone from 72 to 55. Now back to 65. So thats all wind driven from that high up there. So your thursday and friday forecast does favor no fog, at least not yet. And temperatures i went hot on the coast because if youre used to 65 and now its 85, thats hot. Youre not used to that inland and not a big deal because youre used to it more so. But look at this. On tuesday, it does look like maybe some rain is on the way. It will be noticeably cooler monday, starting sunday, going into monday and tuesday. Severe clear, though, today, wall to wall sun and hot for most here, which translates into a lot of 90s. There will not be much separation between coast bay and inland today more of the same friday. I do think some cooling begins to kick in saturday for sure sunday and then a big drop on monday. Thank you, steve. Its 822 now. The overseas seafood industry could take another hit. Im andre senior. Today is thursday, october 5th. And Steve Paulson. I found something that rises faster than gas prices. The temperatures. Yes its going to be hot. You get a you get a point there. I think two points, 2. 3. Yeah and thats rising fast. Were used to that. But temperatures are theyre going up. It wont take long here. Already 60s on the temps. The citys the warmest. I think the city flirts with 90 today, too hot for some. Some of you enjoy it, some dont. But let me be clear, because it is clear and youll be looking for shade. I was talking about this with ellen in the newsroom. Leaves are falling and that happened in like two days. I kid you not. We went from nothing. And now i have leaves. And i think this will accelerate. Are you getting 90s with maybe rain next tuesday. So transitional pattern but its a hot one today and also tomorrow. All right. Sal is here. Kevin where are we going . Sal were going to San Francisco. Steve today is a good day to avoid city hall. Venice all the streets around the bill graham civic there because of the closures for this ceremony. Theyre going to have for the late senator Dianne Feinstein as we push in, you can see thats polk street right in front. Thats blocked. So larkins going to take traffic. Venice is going to take traffic. Remember that this whole square area is blocked. The best way to get there. And of course, you cant go if youre a member of the general public, if you have business down there, the best way to get to this area is bart. Lets talk about some of the other things here. If you are driving to the bay bridge, it is backed up to the macarthur maze. Metering lights are on. Weve had slow traffic on the Richmond Bridge. I want to go and remind people that if youre leaving San Francisco. Its a mess on 101 to 80. This is probably some of the worst traffic ive seen in a long time, all because of a long standing crash in south city. Dont miss that flight now because its going to be tough again, the best way to get to the airport is bart. 832. Lets go back to the desk and lets get back to that live picture here over San Francisco city hall, sky fox up above here. It is not a typical day in front of this building. Many referred to as the peoples palace in San Francisco today, all business in city hall has been paused because the city and people from around the country, including many dignitaries, will come to pay their final respects to longtime california senator Dianne Feinstein. She died at the age of 90 last week. Many people have been coming through city hall to pay their respects to her. We understand that. Well be hearing and seeing the Vice President , of course, Kamala Harris, has served many years inside city hall herself. California senator Dianne Feinstein. The word we hear most often, andre, has been trailblazer or political career. Yes. Well the late senator Dianne Feinstein served more than 50 years of her life as a public servant. In just a matter of hours from now, San Francisco and the nation will bid their final farewells. Ktvu Christien Kafton allen joins us from San Francisco city hall, the site of yesterdays viewing and this afternoons Memorial Service. Christine yeah, thats right. That Memorial Service set to take place on the front steps of San Francisco city hall. Very fitting considering the fact that the late senator served as the citys mayor for ten years from 1978 to 1988. Now, the Memorial Service has been closed to the public due to security concerns. The event will be invite only and is expected to draw a lot of political heavy hitters. Now, were expecting a Vice President , Kamala Harris, to arrive later today. And Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer confirmed via social media that he would be speaking at todays Memorial Service as well. Nancy pelosi was at yesterdays viewing and will likely be here, as well as San Francisco and the nation. Say goodbye to senator feinstein as sal said, that means getting around city hall will be complicated. Although the event is technically invite only. We are expecting some members of the public to show up in the area of Civic Center Plaza, which some of the areas are still open to the public. So there could very well be some members of the public here as well. We saw a lot of public sentiment yesterday. People wanting to express their sorrow at the loss of the late senator getting around city hall as sal said, again, its going to be complicated because of all the street closures. Macalester is closed along the north side of city hall for security reasons. And polk street is closed in the front of the block, rather, in front of city hall as well. Now, the Memorial Service is set to get underway at 1 p. M. And run for one hour. Now we are in position to try to bring you details from that Memorial Service and try to talk with some of the guests as they arrive here, as they say their final farewell to one of San Franciscos favorite daughters. And again, this event is invite only. So we are expecting certainly family, friends, colleagues of the late senator to show up there are some areas around Civic Center Plaza that are still open to the public and considering the long line that i saw of people wanting to say farewell to the late senator, we are expecting some people to congregate in the area just to simply be close enough, possibly to hear some of the words that are being said about the late senator. For now, we are live here in San Francisco at city hall. Christien kafton ktvu fox two news. Christian, thank you. Vice president Kamala Harris as well as several members of Congress Expected to be at this afternoons Memorial Service. Stay with ktvu today as the nation says, a final farewell to senator feinstein. Ctvs coverage starts at noon and he continues with that Memorial Service which starts at 1 p. M. Many spoke about senator feinstein during an outdoor luncheon near San Franciscos union square. Johns grill provided lunch for the community to celebrate 115 years in business. The restaurant has long been a place where elected leaders gather. The owner saved a seat for senator feinstein, former mayor willie brown said the late senator was one of the regulars there. Dianne would be here today about to have lunch and about to tell some story of her experiences. Senator feinstein was a regular at johns grill for decades. She has her photo up on the wall. All we have a tribute for her today. The restaurant put flowers on a table by the photo of the late senator. Dignity worries and elected leaders who came to wish johns grill a happy anniversary also reflected on senator feinsteins impact in San Francisco. A huge reason why i even decided to run for office stemmed on a conversation that she had with my third grade class. She said to my class, she said, im the only woman thats running and perhaps the next woman that wants to run for office in this class, customers said the senators legacy will live on johns grill, said its purveyors largely donated the supplies for yesterdays lunch event. Well, back on capitol hill, the house of representative lives right now at a standstill until a new speaker of the house is elected to replace kevin mccarthy. Then theres the wild card, former president donald trump. People have been calling me about speaker. All i can say is well do whatevers best for the country and for the republican party. Would you take the job . The House Speaker does not have to be a member of the house, but republicans would still have to change the rules that currently ban anyone from leadership who is under a felony indictment. New this morning, japans Nuclear Authorities say the second release of treated radioactive wastewater from fukushima is underway. The japanese government says itll take decades to treat and release all the water that was contaminated after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. China has placed a ban on all seafood imports from japan over health concerns, despite reassurances from tokyo, fishers have seen their product prices drop sharply because they cant sell their catches in as many markets. The First Release of wastewater into the pacific lasted 19 days. The current release is expected to take 17. Well, residents all around the bay area have reported seeing small clumps of spiderwebs floating in the air. Scientists say its an annual natural process called ballooning. It refers to what happens when baby spiders float away on tiny strands of silk to find food or a new place to live. The spiders can glide on the floating web anywhere from a few feet to hundreds of miles in Northern California. Youre most likely to see ballooning in the spring or fall seasons when those spiders hatch. I think i learned about that a long time ago in the final chapter of one of my favorite books, charlottes web. When charlottes babies leave and charlotte lives on through them forever. One of the books i had to read to my father out loud. He made me read that book. I remember it very well. Yes, yes, i did learn it from that good memory. But hate for those people who hate spiders, though i feel for those people that have to deal with that. All right. Time is 839. Lets check in with Steve Paulson right now. He is tracking warmer. I just learned that about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I was walking through the neighborhood and a terminix guy was there and i said, whats the big whats whats the big deal here . And he goes, spiders. And they get caught in the wind. Oh, i didnt know that either guy. So theyre ballooning. I guess its good to know. We do have a slight offshore breeze here and not not strong, but it doesnt take much in this kind of a pattern. Its you know, were not seeing 40 or 50 miles an hour. I thank goodness for that. But, boy, does it make an impact on temperatures on the coast. And in San Francisco, already some low 70s, as i dont think a sea breeze is in the mix today, maybe saturday. But were seeing 60s and 70s for some big spreads here in a lot of these temps, a lot of these are wind driven 30s in the mountains, truckee, south, lake tahoe, 65, Crescent City, 65, san diego. You dont see that all the time. The high is building in for a couple of days and then itll start to get bumped out of here. But for today and tomorrow, its warm to hot even on the coast. I mean, if youre used to fog for four months out of the year and all of a sudden now its sunny and 85 or 90, thats hot. But look at this. On tuesday, some rains coming in and one of the forecast models is called the icon. And its pretty good. I think its really good. The icon forecast model currently shows rain over the north bay next tuesday morning. And this right in here is thats thats heavy rain up in there up in the sierra. So well see. But a couple of forecast models now are latching on to that. So the good news is, if you like warm weather, its here for about three days. If you want cooler weather, maybe some rain. I dont think you have to wait long. But today its all about a lot of 90s. It doesnt even matter. I mean, therell be some on the coast as well. Hot again friday, some cooling saturday, much cooler sunday into monday. You guys, thank you. Student loan payments have just resumed after borrowers were given a break during the pandemic. Well talk live with the financial expert on the nine about how to fit them into your budget. And the first steps to take before are paying off. Harvest is underway in wine country a little later than usual, and a big part of it is the weather we saw this past winter and spring. But winery owners say about this years harvest and what it will do for the wine ndustr preparations are underway for the Memorial Service that will take place at 1 p. M. Today for the late senator Dianne Feinsteins. Chairs are set up outside. This is going to be a private gathering as weve been reporting. That has changed since yesterday when it was supposed to be a public gathering, but now only for family, Close Friends and some dignitaries said board of San Francisco board of supervisor aaron peskin. Hes reporting that former president bill clinton will be among those in attendance, as well as majority leader Chuck Schumer. Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer and, of course, rep resentative nancy pelosi will also be in attendance. You should know that if youre going to be in this area, thats starting at 11 a. M, every street within one block of city hall will be closed to traffic and right now, polk street in front of San Francisco, as you can see right here, is closed down because thats where the service is going to be taking place. Also Civic Center Plaza, that is cordoned off right now. So you will not be able to go there either. So some things to keep in mind as this big memorial gets ready to get underway in a few hours, if youre going to be traveling in this area, be aware of closures is a little later on this morning. 12 migrants bused from texas to san jose are now in temporary homes until more permanent accommodation are found. Pam cook back in studio with this in dollars and cents. Very big, important report tomorrow. The monthly jobs report always look for that. The that will be released shortly before the or shortly after the opening shortly before the opening bell rings tomorrow, 530 tomorrow morning. Investors are hoping for some weakness in the labor market to lessen the likelihood that the Federal Reserve will raise rates again this year. Lets look at your dollars and cents. All right, pam, thank you. All right. 849 now winery owners across Northern California are crossing their fingers hoping this years grape crop will still produce great wine. All the rain that fell in the winter and spring, plus a relatively cool summer caused a delay in the harvest season when grapes would normally be picked in august and september. The longer the grapes are on the vines, theres a higher chance they could be affected by extreme weather conditions from wildfires to early frost. Cross my fingers because were not done with harvest has been the perfect harvest so far. I would say we havent, knock on wood, dealt with any fires in this area where the smoke has affected us. Vintners say the later harvest is working out well. So far they do not feel rushed and have more time to go through the primary fermentation. They predict red wines such as cabernet and merlot will do extremely well. This year, but white grapes are more iffy, they say. All right, 850, a final check of traffic on what has been a busy day on the roads. Tell sure has. And we do have a look at some of these roads leaving San Francisco. It is downright scary. Were not even a halloween yet. And 101. And two over 80. This is the worst traffic ive seen and probably the whole year for this stretch. I dont remember another day like this trying to get to the airport. There are going to be people who are missing flights out because of this ridiculous backup getting out of San Francisco and daly city to the airport. If you have business at the airport or trying to get a flight, you might strongly consider using bart. An uber is not going to help you because they have to use the same roads you do if you were driving, just remember that. And lets talk about some of these other commutes. San mateo bridge looks okay. The bay bridge is improving now getting into San Francisco. 851. Lets bring steve back in with todays weather. Oh, thank you, sir. We do have warm conditions already. A lot of upper 60s here showing up. San francisco, palo alto, san jose. It will not take long. There is no fog yet. Everythings been pushed out to sea. Whats planned for the area and why loved ones say her death is particularly painful for them at cretors, we handcraft every batch of our delicious popcorn. Like our cretors cheese and caramel mix. Great on their own, even better together. Try cretors, handcrafted smallbatch popcorn. Is that they reached a settlement with the state. The chp will pay 7 million to salgados family. He was 23 years old when he was killed by chp officers during an attempted traffic stop in oakland. Investigators say that eric salgado was driving a stolen car in oakland and was heading in the direction of the officers when they opened fire on him. Eric salgados family Attorney Says that he was only trying to leave the area. Both of the people were unarmed. Most of the shots came from the back, which which indicates to me that they didnt want him to get away. Not that he was a threat to them. Salgados girlfriend was seriously injured in the shooting. Her unborn child did not survive. His family now wants the Alameda CountyDistrict Attorney to charge the three officers involved. And i think all officers involved in my brothers killing or murder should be held accountable. So, you know, i have optimism. Im going to keep fighting. And whenever, you know, i literally feel like i have no choice. Last year, then da Nancy Omalley found the officers did not break the law by firing into the car. Salgados sister says the family is planning another rally to try to get this case back on the current radar of the current District Attorney, as well as the state attorney general, rob bonta. The family of the four year old who died in a bike accident at lake merritt says oakland has been responsive to their demands for new bike safety. The good thing about that is that we are actually going to be meeting with them quarterly. The more weve sat down and thought about it. Mayas death was fully preventable. Correa was riding on the back of her fathers bike in a child seat in august when someone who was parked opened their car door and the bike path knocking the pair to the ground. She later died from her injuries. People living on maui are calling hawaiis governor to delay plans to reopen the western part of the island to tourism. Governor josh green has said the area affected by the deadly fire in august will reopen to tourists on sunday. Dozens gathered at the State Capitol in honolulu tuesday to try to deliver a petition to the governor. Community organizers brought the box to the governors door, but staff said that he wasnt there to accept it. Representatives from west maui and the lahaina strong activist group were there and said its too soon for tourism. Majority of the people, if they want to go back to work, its because they have that fear and uncertainty about moving forward. If there was financial relief, they could be out serving their own community instead of serving tourists. Its just baffling to me. We didnt even get a chance to speak for ourselves. You know, the decisions that are being made for this october 8th reopening will ultimately affect us. So shouldnt we be consulted with 14,000 people have signed the petition when you go to a restaurant, you usually tip 15 to 20 for good service. But you may have noticed on many receipts, the suggested tip has changed many suggested tips at restaurants now suggest tips of up to 25. People are calling it deflation. Some say the pandemic is partly to blame here. And during the pandemic, some restaurants added a tip or service charge, saying it was to protect and retain employees. After pandemic, we heard loud and clear from customer that they liked the freedom of choice. They dont like to be told the mandate, how much it should be without tipping culture, without this idea of tipping, then in yeah, sure. Maybe im guaranteed more money, but maybe ill also guaranteed less customers. You never know. An emotional tribute to late senator Dianne Feinstein. Shes just done so much that this is a rare opportunity to get to pay respects to somebody whos been so impactful.
