Stop as she was on her way to make the 45. Police say she was hit by a car on tuesday. She wasnt found there until the next day. Traffic records indicate nearly 60 people have been hit on this stretch of road over the last decade. And so many people are going to miss her. Marlee delaney, known as molly to her friends, was leaving emily odes oakland home on Tuesday Morning to take a bus. She was meeting another friend, shirley, at the airport, and then this one was a long planned trip with her childhood friend, shirley to spend four days in San Francisco. But when she didnt arrive, shirley called coco delaney, mollys daughter. So thats when she called me to tell me that she was missing. She was last seen leaving owens house at 726 in the morning. She texted shirley at 739, attempting to catch the 746 bus. I looked up. I looked down. I didnt see any debris or suitcases or anything. When the car hit her, it hit her so hard that it knocked her back and down into this ravine against the fence. So it wasnt visible by the road. The next day, police found her dead just after 1 p. M, confirming the driver left the scene. We found out that some maintenance workers on the mills campus had seen her from the other side of the fence. An 8. 8 million project is in place to repave seminary from foothill to sunny muir to include pedestrian and biking improvements. Its just really odd that you would have a series of bus stops on a main drag like that seminary and not have any place to walk from bus stop to bus stop, but construction wont begin until 2025. It seems like it takes fatalities to hurry things up. While coco says shes gotten some answers in the investigation, the person has been located and questioned by the police and the detective is going to be wrapping up his case today and sending it to the das office. Mollys loved ones hope this doesnt happen to anyone else. If this truly was an accident, i wont have compassion for that person as well. All drivers keep your head in the game. Definitely a tragedy. Mollys family tells me molly was a compassionate and loving person again. They also tell me the driver was found by police, but they believe it was an accident that the driver possibly did turn around to look for molly but could not find her. Julie yeah, just a heartbreaking story. Crystal, thank you. Fire fighters in the south bay responded to a vegetation fire this afternoon. Laphonza butler is soon to become the second black woman to represent california in the us senate today. Governor newsom defending his selection to fill the seat of the late senator dianne feinstein. As ktvu, an rubin tells us, butler wasnt even registered to vote here in california. It was an appointment that took political pundits by surprise. Laphonza butler is a former labor leader, a political consultant and someone who has never held office herself. Now shell be filling the senate seat of the late dianne feinstein. She understands organizing bottom up, not top down. She understands moral authority, as i said, not just formal authority. I mean, shes next level qualified. Butler tweeted. No one will ever measure up to the legacy of senator dianne feinstein, but i will do my best to honor her legacy and leadership. Governor gavin newsom intended this to be an interim appointment, but wont ask butler not to run for the seat. Ive got an incredible appointee and shell make the decision and no constraints, no expectations. Butler will be the only current black female senator. She will also be the first openly lgbtq plus senator from california could not come at a more important time for our community to have to have that representation, but also to have a real tried and true fighter, but with no track record of her own political experts say its hard to know what to expect. Hes picked someone hes politically comfortable with, who he believes matches a lot of the demographic characteristics he was looking for in this appointment. But shes not someone whos ever had to be accountable to voters, not someone whos ever had to articulate a record or what she would do. And shes someone whos not even registered to vote in the state of california, not registered because she was living in maryland to run emilys list, a group dedicated to electing democratic prochoice women. But before that, she spent years as a union leader representing nursing home workers in california. I think to the senate, shes going to bring that same determination to really fight for the underdog. Right. The people who are often not seen, i think she really believes in that. I saw that over more than a decade. And so thats why we were so excited when we got the news. Butlers swearing in ceremony is likely to be later this week, and rubin ktvu fox two news is and the appointment of Laphonza Butler to the senate has changed the landscape for the 2024 race. Governor newsom has rescinded his earlier stipulation that his appointee not run for the full senate term next year. Butler has not yet said whether she intends to run in 2024, and her staff told ktvu in a statement, quote, this week, laphonza is focusing on respecting and honoring senator feinsteins legacy and getting ready to serve the people of california in the senate. Politics can wait. Earlier we spoke with sonoma state Political Science professor david mcewan, who says butler could complicate next years race and could overcome questions about her residency and experience. She also, i think, is someone who can weather this storm and this controversy. It does give rise, i would say, an air some republicans concerns that they need to find a viable candidate while democrats bash each other in a democratic primary next year. That will be fascinating to watch because we really are in the 2024 cycle, butler team says she has owned a home in california since 2011 and has since registered to vote in the state. Rescue teams not giving up hope in their search for a swimmer who witnesses say may have been attacked by a shark off the bay area coast. Why theyre even looking on land. Plus we have to treat homelessness as a crisis as an emergency. San joses mayor says homelessness is out of control in his city. His request to the city council to help address the issue with urgency and a sobering account on the state of Office Vacancies in San Francisco. Why the citys top Economist Says the situation is not improving. And heres a quick check right now of the monday evening commute. This is interstate 880 through oakland, where traffic is moving nicely. No traffic backups here. Youre watching ktvu news at six. Well be right back months before san jose mayor matt mehan walked to a monday news conference, he knew homelessness was out of control. This is a crisis we have to treat it like a crisis that our actions and our policies is match our rhetoric, said the mayor, vice mayor and others submitting a memo wednesday, classifying san jose in crisis due to the number of unhoused residents. I think homeless advocates deemed it a crisis the day they saw it. Over 4000 people live along riverbeds in rvs and on sidewalks of the city. Billed as the capital of silicon valley. Officials say covid exacerbated the problem. Our residents in our city are frustrated and we as council are frustrated now. Encampments have grown and so have problems associated with unsheltered living. Its a little bit like a patient whos had a car accident. First you got to stop the bleeding. Officials say a crisis declaration would streamline current policies and procedures to shorten the time it takes to build interim housing or safe parking and sleeping sites from years to months. This is an emergency. We have to move with all haste to build safe, dignified alternatives to encampments. So as a council, its our obligation then to get barriers out of the way to make sure that we can do things as quickly as possible. Some formerly unhoused residents point to successes such as last weeks opening of a hotel for the unhoused as a path to success. S we just got to put one foot in front of the other and just want to give it a shot, man, and take advantage of it. Take advantage of it. Some critics charge the city is sounding the alarms after the firestorm of homelessness has grown too big. Its like watching a house burn to the ground and saying we need water on the house, the burning fire. But then you watch another house appear thats on fire. The mayor needs a majority on the rules committee to vote in favor of the crisis declaration. Then it would go to the full council for a vote, possibly as soon as the end of this month at San Jose City hall. Jesse, gary ktvu, fox two news, San Franciscos chief Economist Says the citys High Office Vacancy Rate is not likely to go down in the near future. The citys commercial vacancy rate is currently hovering around 30 due to the remote work trend, with similar numbers in san jose and oakland. San francisco, though, is seeing a staggering 30,000,000 square foot feet of empty office space. The citys chief economist, chief economist, told us the picture is not likely to change much in the next year and a half if theres a lot of leases that are expiring. We havent seen a lot of new leasing activity. So i do think it probably wont go up much higher. But it is probably going to go up from here as far as converting those offices into housing, egon said that the Housing Market downturn also remains weak, so developers may not be motivated to make those conversions happen, he said. Office buildings that are selling are going for big price reductions. San francisco nonprofits and other groups are in line for a share of 60 million in new tax credits. The federal Program Helps groups Fund Construction and Capital Improvement programs in low income communities. Previous rounds of funding have helped pay for the expanded meals on wheels Food Distribution center in the bayview and the Community Music center in the mission district. And so its been an effective tool, not only in california, but across the nation to let people know whats going on and how to respond ahead of a disaster. The federal law mandates a test of the system every three years, and Officials Say it is important that people take the message seriously and make sure they know how to respond in the event of an emergency. Vice president kamala harris. Butler is a democratic strategist. She will be the only current black female senator. She will also become the second black woman, along with Vice President harris, to represent california in the us senate and the states first openly lgbt person to represent the state. The body of a 72 year old woman killed in a hit and run accident in oakland was not found until more than a day later. Police say the victim, mara lee delaney , was on her way to catch a bus to meet a friend at the airport when she was struck Tuesday Morning. She was located down a ravine along seminary avenue near Mills College last wednesday. The person suspected in the crash has been located, has been interviewed. It is not clear tonight, though, if that person will face charges. Two children died and a third is hospitalized following a drowning incident at a san jose home serving as a daycare facility. First responders arrived at the happy, happy daycare on fleetwood drive in the albany neighborhood at about nine this morning. All three children were found in a backyard pool. San jose police and the Santa Clara County das office are now investigating the death. And you are watching ktvu fox two news here at 630. The search has been called off for a 52 year old missing swimmer who may have been attacked by a shark off the marin county coast Point Reyes National seashore. Officials say the man was swimming yesterday morning with two friends and that witnesses reported seeing a shark nearby. Thats right. As ktvu tom vacar reports. Now, experts say deadly shark attacks are extremely rare. Almost 22 hours after the coast guard received a call that a swimmer apparently attacked by a shark had gone missing, have called off their search on the sea at midmorning. The coast guard says it got an urgent call about a possible shark attack on marins Wildcat Beach about nine miles north of Stinson Beach. The coast guard, air and sea, along with the National Park service, Stinson Beach fire rescue as well as marin county sheriff and fire. All responded to the very remote area, served only by trails where the incident occurred. In my time here, we havent heard of anything like this happening yet. Today was definitely a crazy day here at the ranch. Many more park rangers than normal flashing lights. A certain degree of chaos all day long. The coast guard officially ended the search 8 a. M. Monday, while other searchers remain behind to see if they could find anything , including remains along the shore. That search ended an hour later. The victims identity has not yet been released since there is no body to be identified and next of kin would be notified. First world wide, even in shark rich northern california, this is truly a rare event 50 times less likely than getting hit by lightning. Fatalities are very rare and injuries also rare. But it is, you know, something that we people that are in the water on any regular basis, you know, have to, you know, think about and consider we do have a variety of different sea life that the sharks really like to feed on come around four. And so caution is our best friend in that sense. In fact, says sommerin, there are plenty of other dangers, far more likely to hurt or kill people along the rugged coastline. Many more people are injured through bonking their heads on rocks and hitting their surfboard or, you know, swimming and getting tired or hypothermic. Theres all kinds of risks out there. So whether youre hiking or camping or swimming or surfing or diving in remote places, you have to remember that firstrillionesponders are often very far away and youre pretty much on your own. Tom vacar ktvu fox two news tonight. Some developing news out of washington, dc congressman matt gaetz late today filed a resolution to oust Kevin Mccarthy as house speaker. The Florida Republican offered a motion to vacate on the house floor, a procedural move that can be used to force a vote to remove the speaker. Gates and other conservatives want mccarthy out after the speaker worked with democrats to pass a stopgap measure saturday to avert that government shutdown. Gaetz spoke just a few hours ago on capitol hill. Theyll be therell be a number of great conservative rouz and friends of mine who do vote with speaker mccarthy. I dont have confidence in him anymore. And i think a requisite number of republicans have lost confidence such that the only way hell be able to stay in power is by working for the democrats. The motion to vacate starts a process that requires a floor vote on whether to keep mccarthy as speaker. Within two days, he would need a majority to succeed. Mccarthy hasnt commented since the motion was announced, but earlier today said its, quote, disruptive to the country. Here in the bay area, fleet week officially got underway today. This stressful trial put forward by the attorney general struck a defiant President Trump back in a new york courtroom. This time voluntarily to hear Opening Statements in a civil fraud trial, accusing him, his two sons and his company of inflating trumps net worth to deceive banks to get better loans and insurance policies. October is Breast Cancer awareness month, a time devoted to educating everyone about the disease. More than 240,000 cases of Breast Cancer are diagnosed in the us every year, and each year it results in more than 42,000 deaths nationwide. In the last hour at four, kaiser at four earlier today, kaiser doctor seema sidhu said that mammograms remain a critical tool for diagnosis. Sometimes it can be detected. You can actually detect a cancer three years before it is felt on an exam. Mama ography has helped reduce Breast Cancer mortality in the us by nearly 40 since 1990. Doctor sidhu said physicians at kaiser recommend women with average cancer risk to begin getting annual or biannual mammograms in their 40s. People with higher risk can have more frequent screenings. All righty. Checking in on the weather, we had another nice day today. Temperatures about where they were yesterday, in some cases a little warmer. Some cases a little cooler. But it is fall for sure in the bay area. You can feel it out there right now. These are the highs from today, highs tomorrow will be a couple of degrees warmer. I think well see some more mid 80s. Beautiful sunset. Thats a false sunset if i ever saw one. You got fog at the coast. You can barely see it behind the city skyline. And thats because the High Pressure is pinching down on it and its getting narrow. So the next couple of days, fog becomes less of a player as this dome of High Pressure, which hasnt really set up this season at all, is going to set up and give us a warmer weather pattern. With a warming trend. Itll get up into the low and mid 90s in the warmest days, friday, saturday in that period. But in terms of records, maybe you could get a record in some off brand place. But but overall all its just a typical fall warm up very we expected this time of year but with fuel moistures decreasing and having been decreased all summer and humidities in some of these zones will get down on friday and saturday, get down into the 120. So that thats those are those are threshold so that you dont like to see in terms of fire concerns us. So what i just say were going to see more fire concerns and were probably going to see some starts to some freeway starts and what have you, especially as we get towards the end of this week as things warm up day after day and dry out. So this is the set up for tomorrow morning, little patchy fog at the coast. And then a little fog returns tomorrow afternoon. But then watch the fog go right there. Thats when the temperatures were warm. And thats when we get the strongest offshore flow. Tuesday night into wednesday night, well see some pretty, pretty strong winds in some of the inland bay valleys, 25, 30 miles an hour, Something Like that. Just right now. Its just below threshold for an advisory. But this is that time of year. So as you look at the forecast or not the forecast, but whats happening, you see this area of graininess coming down into the northeast part of the state that stays clear of us. The highest kind of swishing it out towards the nevada area. These are the current temperatures. These are the departures from yesterday. So its slightly warmer. Tomorrow is going to be, oh, my julia, look at that. Beautiful not stunning. Yeah, its such a pretty place we live. And you can see the air quality. I mean, thats thats a function, too, of all of that smoke being in fires being tamped down by the significant rain we saw last 4 or 5 days ago, especially in those fire zones, because these winds, they would be transporting that smoke. I mentioned it last night, too, but theyre not. And so we have that beautiful air quality. We just showed you outside. Lovely to see. There you go. Lebron james says the niners are the team to beat in the nfl. And im not going to argue. Good evening, everybody. The 40 niners and eagles are the only two remaining unbeaten teams in the league and yesterday Christian Mccaffrey man he ran wild in the niners 35 to 16 win over the Arizona Cardinals 177 total yards for touchdowns breaking jerry rices 36 year old franchise record by scoring at least one touchdown in 13 straight games. Not to be outdone, brock purdy completed his first 13 passes, finished the game 20 for 21. Thats 95 to break. Steve youngs single game completion percentage record set back in 1991. These guys are breaking these all time records. Purdy now the highest rated quarterback in the nfl. He still has never lost in the nfl when he plays the majority of a game 12 and zero lifetime going back to last year. Everyones on a mission and you know, we expect a lot out of ourselves. And, you know, obviously every game matters for us. We have an end goal in mind, but everyones hungry to do the Little Things right. I think you can just go down the list of what makes a quarterback good and he checks every box and then he has all the intangibles just a complete running back. I think theres not anything he cant do. Hes just such a complete Football Player and a guy that you can you can put anywhere. All right. Some sad, tragic news, really. Russ francis, one of the 49 ers all time great tight ends, was killed in a plane crash in lake placid, new york. The accident occurred yesterday, shortly after takeoff. Both francis and former Us Air Force CommanderRichard Mcspadden perishing in the crash. Francis was originally a first round draft pick by the new England Patriots in 1975, where he made three pro bowls after retiring for one year in 1981. He unretire and joined the 49 ers in 1982, where he would play the next five seasons, helping them win super bowl 19. In 1984. 49ers hall of Famer Ronnie Lott called francis a warrior with a kind heart. Russ francis was 70 years old. The warriors open camp tomorrow, first preseason game saturday against the lakers. Today was media day and joe fonzi was there on a team that has no shortage of stars. It was a newcomer to the warriors 80 year veteran chris paul, who was the subject of much of the conversation today. You know, just even media day, when you saying dub nation, youre in there. I didnt thats not been a sound i didnt like to hear for the past. I dont know how many years. The first day i came, i took a picture of my locker in the uniform and the jersey and i put it in my family group chat. And even in the group chat with all my homies and my friends. And they would say, oh, thats thats going to take some getting used to getting used to the optics is one thing. Building chemistry with his new teammates will be something else. Chris paul has battled the warriors in high profile games throughout his career. The guys who have been the enemy for so many seasons are now teammates. Steph klay. I mean, i told you klay didnt guarded me for years. He was playing pick up the other day and he guarded me and i looked at i said, we dont do this no more. You know, where i can probably relate to. Chris most people probably hate me that dont know me. I think if you get to know me, you dont necessarily hate me. But if you dont know me, you probably hate me. And chris definitely got some of that himself. Theyve been pretty open about talking about it to each other, like how theyre going to try to help each other out in their front because neither one of them is not going to stop talking. So thats a good thing as long as its channeled in the right direction on the goal is to win and i know he want to win, as we all know, and my goal is to do all that i can to make sure help him win. So to the tough off season topic, which five players will be in the starting lineup, i actually had an opportunity in zero eight to come off the bench for the olympic team, you know what i mean . And that went pretty well. And i think anybody who knows me knows that im all about winning, you know what i mean . Whatever. Whatever i can do to help our team win that team concept is whats characterized the warriors in winning four championships and eight years. Theyll need to develop that same kind of chemistry to have a shot at a fifth championship in San Francisco. Joe fonzi ktvu fox at cretors, we handcraft every batch of our delicious popcorn.
