New at seven Santa Clara Police say a man is under arrest tonight for a stabbing that happened over the weekend. Officers were called to the normandy house lounge on washington street at around 11 00 saturday night. Thats where they detained Lorenzo Lopez of santa clara. Police say the victim was taken to the hospital with several stab wounds. Lopez was booked into the Santa Clara County main jail on charges of attempted murder. Parents and students were left shaken today after a shooting at oaklands skyline high school. Four people ultimately were detained and Police Say Two of them were arrested. A skyline high administrator trying to reassure parents after a shooting broke out on the campus in the oakland hills. There was a shooting on campus. They werent shooting at any particular person, but there was a gun found on campus. We heard a gunshot, but it was like a little faint, like it was far. So we werent tripping. And then boom, boom, it was two more. And then everybody started running. The shooting happened at about 1130 tuesday morning, bringing dozens of Oakland Police chp officers and Alameda County sheriffs deputies to the school. The campus was placed on lockdown. Officers detained four individuals, two of whom were placed under arrest. Oakland Police Captain jake bassett says officers recovered a gun. Police would not say if those in custody are students at skyline. Investigators say they werent prepared to discuss what led up to the shooting. Officers conducted a methodical search of the campus and thankfully there were no reported injuries. Parents rushed to campus waiting for hours to reunite with their kids streets near the school were jammed as word spread of the shooting. Im just surprised that this happened, especially to my school. I didnt think this would happen. They might need to start looking into metal detectors for at least all two Oakland Schools. But this one definitely because things keep happening. Oakland School District spokesman jon sasaki had this message to stop engaging in violence in all its forms. The oakland School District says will look into any procedures to see if they can improve safety on its campuses. Well, ktvu has learned that the Oakland Police department will fire two officers who initially did an unauthorized chase that killed a bystander. Sources tell us that rookie officers while abdel aziz and jimmy marone marin excuse me coronel were in pursuit of a nissan believed to be involved in a sideshow. This was back on june 25th of last year. The driver of that nissan crashed at sending a parked car into a group of people. 28 year old man was killed as a result. The victims family has filed a civil lawsuit against oakland, accusing the officers of failing to summon medical help. Attorneys for the officers have not yet responded to our request for comment. The San Francisco Police Department is planning a virtual town hall meeting this week to discuss the shooting of a man with a knife in the tenderloin district last week. The officer involved shooting happened on august 28th at jones and ellis streets. Police say officers shot at the man when he brands a knife and refused to comply with commands to surrender. He was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. That meeting is set for thursday afternoon at three. Assembly bill 1060 would require private insurers and medical to cover the cost of narcan out of pocket costs for the drug, which reverses opioid overdoses, would be limited to 10 per package. Major pharmacies are charging nearly 45 for a two dose package. This bill was introduced by east bay Assembly Member liz ortega. She says making narcan affordable is critical to saving lives and it would also reduce costs for the state. But when youre looking at how much were spending in emergency room visits and again, overdose is were currently spending 26 million. So ab 1060 would actually save the state money, save private insurers money and save lives by making sure that a family only spends 10 to, you know, buy this medicaid, an Assembly Member, ortega, says its not enough to ensure accessibility. Transit month has been an idea in the area well before the covid 19 pandemic. But now postpandemic, it seems the message is more necessary than ever. Public transit ridership levels today are still only a fraction of what we saw in 2019. So any promotion to get people on board is helpful. Its not about just commuting into the office right . Transit is there for you on the weekends and at night to go to plays to go on a hike. Riders on bart are well aware of the Financial Hardship directly tied to the low ridership. The national Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the inflators manufactured by arc automotive pose an unreasonable risk of serious injury or death. The agency says since 2009, the inflators have caused at least seven injuries and one death. Here in the us and canada, the inflators are included in cars manufactured by at least a dozen automakers. Back in may, the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration asked arc to issue a recall. But the future of the Mission Peak Pole remains uncertain. Thats because officials with the east Bay Regional Parks district have not said if that pole will in fact be repaired. Hikers and visitors expressed their frustration over the crime, but now our brooks jarocz tells us its renewing controversy between the neighborhood board and the park. Mission peak. Visitors say its always a packed parking lot here off stanford avenue. But new questions are being raised over connections between the busyness of the park and the recent vandalism of the iconic sculpture at the summit. Deplorable, despicable, reprehensible.
