And the reason so Many Police Officers are gathered outside the school right now. We will have more information for you updated throughout this newscast at noon and at ktvu. Com. And now to some developing news. United airlines lifting a nationwide ground stoppage. The faa grounded all united flights earlier this morning. The agency cited a computer issue in which united crews were unable to Contact Airline dispatchers through normal means. Were told now flights that were in the air continue to their destinations but were held once they landed. There was just a flash that just came across the news that united had to shut down because they had a glitch on all their flights and so they they they said that they were grounding all flights. But then it appears that theyve lifted that now. Yeah, United Airlines said it is repaired a piece of technology that caused the glitch that forced it to halt all departures nationwide briefly cripple ing one of the nations biggest carriers is on this very busy travel day. San Francisco International airport is a united hub. We have a crew headed there and well bring you a live report on the impact of this major ground stoppage coming up at 1230. New at noon, San Franciscos oldest lgbtq bar, the stud is making a comeback. The iconic nightclub is planning to reopen a new venue on 11th and folsom street next year in the south of market area. The original location on ninth street closed in the early days of the pandemic. Storms, flooding and mud delayed the traditional climax of burning man at that festival in the Black Rock Desert. By one day, a massive wooden effigy known as the man was set on fire last night. Thousands watched the flames and fireworks on the playa after the weekends muddy conditions. People are finally being allowed to leave the desert. Max gordon reports. The exodus from burning man is finally on. Roads in the Black Rock Desert are now dry enough to drive on and a parade of muddy vehicles are now making their way back to civilization. Even for those trying to get out a long wait, some burners stuck in a traffic jam that could be seen from space that took seven hours to get through this after tens of thousands of people were stranded over the weekend due to rain flash cutting, closed roads and made for a sticky, muddy mess in black rock city, the temporary city that pops up during the burning man festival. The Pershing CountySheriffs Office confirmed that they are investigating how a 32 year old man died friday during the rain event and that the rainy conditions hampered the investigation. The Sheriffs Office says no immediate cause of death was determined after interviewing witnesses and medical responders, but an autopsy toxicology report is still being processed while some continued their burning man experience. Celebrity dj diplo and Comedian Chris Rock decided to walk out around six miles. In fact, other attendees did the same, not knowing how long they might be stuck on the lakebed known as the playa. I think everybody at first was like, just welcoming the idea of staying in their in their trailer, in their camp and just hanging out and having, i suppose, you know, a continuation of their burning man time. And then after enough time went by, it started to get a little bit like people started to question like, okay, well, how long are we actually going to be sheltering in place here . And thats when we ultimately made the pretty quick decision to exit and walk out of the playa. But the party still did go on last night. The infamous wooden effigy, the famous burning man went down in flames. So now its time to go home. And for a lot of these folks, time for a nice hot shower back to you. Well, now to a nightmare that played out in oakland. A woman walking along lake merritt was caught in the crossfire. Police say she was hit by a stray bullet monday afternoon and taken to a hospital in critical condition. Ktvus amber lee spoke to witnesses and has this report. You see the lamplight and the bush right in the middle. Everett Alex Alexander points to the spot where a woman was shot while walking on the path along lake merritt in oakland. He says he looked out his balcony after he heard dozens of shots fired shortly before 1230 monday afternoon. It was scary, you know, because you dont know whats going on and you dont know where the bullets are flying. Police have confirmed that the victim is an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire, a bicycle tells me multiple witnesses saw a gun battle between two groups on Lakeside Drive near the intersection of madison street. There were a couple of cars, like two white lexuses. The guys were hanging out the windows, shooting, shooting at each other, you know, point blank range. They went on and on and on for whatever, 10 or 15 seconds. The shooting happened on the Labor Day Holiday with lots of people out enjoying the day. I ride my bike around here all the time and it kind of it pisses me off and it scares me. Probably walk elsewhere, which is too bad because lake merritt is part of whats great to about living here, right . About living in this neighborhood. Neighbors describe lake merritt as the heart and soul of oakland. And to have a shooting like this happen is disturbing. One neighbor says many people in the area rushed to help the woman and says that speaks to whats good about this city. These people didnt know that the danger was past, but they were willing to put themselves at risk to help this innocent woman. Neighbors tell me First Responders arrived quickly. Police say the victim is in critical condition. They did not release descriptions of the suspects or vehicles involved. And in oakland, amber lee, ktvu fox two news. Well, police in san jose arrested a teenager accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian while driving a stolen car. It happened early sunday morning near the intersection of winchester boulevard and walgrove way just south of interstate 280. Police say the teenager was driving a stolen suv when it went off the road and hit and killed the man who was walking on the sidewalk. The california dmv will expand a Pilot Program that allows drivers to store and use a digital version of their drivers license. The agency is calling it a mobile drivers license, and it can even be used at screening lines at some airports. Ktvu allie rasmus explains how it works and the privacy and security concerns that come with it. The mobile drivers license Pilot Program launched in may here in california and so far, 100,000 drivers have signed up. Drivers can upload and store a digital version of their drivers license to their phone using the dmvs wallet app. It does not replace a physical drivers license. And theres still a process for getting a physical drivers license. This is just one more option. The dmv calls it a mobile drivers license or mdl. It can be used to get through tsa checkpoints at more than a dozen airports, including san jose, sfo and lax. For now, a handful of stores accept it as proof of age to buy alcohol. California drivers have mixed feelings about it. As long as its like encrypted and protected. And that guarantees their i feel like it would make a lot of sense for people. I wouldnt be a fan of it, but i know thats where were going with technology, you hear so much about hacking and all that stuff, so its i feel like it will be a lot easier for somebody to, you know, steal that privacy is a number one concern of ours at the dmv across the board. And certainly that applies to the mobile drivers licenses. We require biometrics. We require encryption. An privacy experts with the Electronic FrontierFoundation Say encryption and biometrics are good security steps, but they want to keep a close eye on how this technology is expanding in the years ahead. We understand that convenience is definitely something that comes with mdl and where facilitate the conversations around what is mdl look like on a federal level with tsa, even if it feels inevitable. We want to provide safeguards for people. The dmv is limiting this Pilot Program to the first million and a half californians who sign up. If you are interested, we have the instructions from the dmv on our website. Just go to ktvu. Com in concord. Allie rasmus, ktvu fox two news. Well preparing for dreamforce. No word as to whether that suspect is a student here or some outside interloper. Again, were still awaiting word from Oakland Police, but oakland Police Officers are here as well as chp, Oakland Officers. So a major Police Activity still ongoing right now. What theyre doing is the campus is on lockdown as they sweep the campus to make sure there are no further threats. But again, to recap, there was a shooting here on campus at some point this morning. The campus is on lockdown. No injuries. Parents are outside the gates and once a sweep is done, a protective sweep of the campus is done. The vice principal has told parents that students will be released again, no one injured in the shooting here on skyline in high school in the oakland hills. A suspect is in custody at this hour. Live in oakland, henry lee, ktvu fox two news. Henry, thank you. Part of a landmark in the east bay that was vandalized and reported missing last weekend has been recovered. The sculpture known as the Mission Peak Pole is in fremont. Used to sit on top of the hiking area of mission peak. But went missing saturday morning last night, the park staff said they found the top portion of the pole that had been sawed off. The vandalism outraged many people who regularly hike the three miles up to the top of mission peak. Its metal. So someone had cut it with a metal cutter. So youd have to be crazy to hike that much and then do it. So i just dont understand. For years, the Mission Peak Pole has been a popular spot for hikers and joggers to take photos. Park officials still havent said where or when the vandalized pole was recovered. Well, anyone heading up there today . Well have some pretty decent weather. Even if you decide to go up there, even though its been vandalized. But a lot of people, its still a great place to go. Rosemary oroczo is here now with more on that. Yes well, you know, typically the unofficial end of summer for us means endless summer. And thats exactly we are looking out for the days ahead. We have some beautiful weather coming our way. Nothing too hot, just right in many spots. Heres a look over areas of San Francisco. So beautiful view there. We do have low clouds, partly cloudy skies along the coastline. You can see some just drifting inside the bay, but abundant sunshine for many of us. And our temperatures at this hour compared to yesterday, running a little bit warmer in some spots. Weve got 72 degrees in the north bay of novato for the inner east bay. We have 80 in livermore and closer to the water, 67 in hayward right now, 64. San francisco so low 60s outside your door. Half moon bay shifting to the inner east bay where we do have some of the warmer areas at this time. Lafayette reporting 80 degrees as well as danville, 77 for you there. Clayton the 24 hour temperature change. So we are looking at areas over livermore, five degrees warmer. This cant possibly be right. Theres an error in that number. There we look to the north bay where we do have a few degrees warmer over areas like Santa Rosa Novato compared to 24 hours ago. And the winds are generally light. We have napa reporting an onshore breeze at five oakland coming in from the north at five. Calm reported over areas through the delta. So when it comes to the onshore breeze not going to get any relief for our inland cities but with that said, still looking at very nice weather. Heres a look at the future cast into the afternoon. Notice the partly cloudy skies along the coast, mostly sunny for the rest of us during the overnight hours. The clouds do regroup, move back across the bay. Tomorrow morning, well wake up with the north bay. Partly cloudy, east bay shore, partly cloudy. A little bit of patchy drizzle and patchy fog along the coast and then into the afternoon, mostly sunny skies away from the coast. And we are going to repeat this pattern for several days, but just slight warming coming for the weekend. Heres a look at the afternoon highs where we should be for this time of year and what we expect for the afternoon. Were looking at 80s for areas over santa rosa, for San Francisco, upper 60s expected for you there. Oakland right on target at 74 as well as livermore in the upper 80s and san jose. Youre looking at 83 for today. Ill have a better look at the afternoon highs for today and just the minor tweaks for the rest of the week into the weekend. Coming up in just a little bit. Henry, what have you learned . Well, andre, Oakland Police now confirming there was indeed a shooting here at Skyline High School in the oakland hills. The good news is no reports of victims at this at this time. They have detained individuals that they believe are connected to the shooting. Right now, we are outside the main gate at skyline high. Parents getting updates repeatedly from the vice principal who confirms that information from Oakland Police. At least one or more individuals are in custody right now. Oakland police are here along with chp officers from the Oakland Office as well as the Alameda CountySheriffs Office. They are sweeping the campus, a protective sweep to make sure there are no victims and no other suspects before they release students to their parents class by class. We did talk to a grandmother of a student from earlier. Heres what she had to say. The vice principal, he came out and he said that there was a shooting and the suspect is they have the suspect out. And right now, all theyre doing is sweeping the campus to make sure there that everything is okay and once theyre done, then theyre going to release the kids. But nobody got hurt. So, again, right now, they are doing a protective sweep. Officers are here on campus checking each building methodically, making sure there are no gunshot victims. But again, no reports of anyone hurt in a shooting here at skyline high suspects involved in this case are in custody. Now. There was an incident last year with a gun. A reportedly a Football Player was pistol whipped. So a number of parents, other parents weve also talked to are saying it is time for metal detectors, at least on this campus and possibly others. Thats the latest here at skyline high in oakland. Henry lee, ktvu fox two news. Thank you henry background developing story now from the beginning of this newscast at. A United Airlines nationwide ground stoppage that was then lifted late this morning. Ktvu tom vacar live at sfo with late details and it was less than an hour here, tom, but it did have quite an effect. It did both here and across the country. Now, if you look over here, things seem to be normal. But at 1038, this morning, United Airlines notified the faa that it was coordinating a systemwide ground stop all over the us due to a technical issue. The issue seemed to revolve around a Computer System that degraded the ability of departing aircraft to communicate with the United Airlines dispatchers. Though the outage lasted only 23 minutes. San Francisco Airport alone ultimately had 51 aircraft delays and one cancellation. 300 nationwide. It also caused a lot of confusion on there was just a flash that just came across the news that united had to shut down because they had a glitch on all their flights. And so they they they said that they were grounding all flights. But then it appears that theyve lifted that now. The ability of dispatchers to communicate with aircraft out of the gate, getting ready to depart or on the tarmac is critical to Exchange Information necessary to keep the entire system moving smoothly, early system wide aircraft are already in the air. They were not affected by this because the pilots are in constant communication communication with air Traffic Controllers and being tracked by radar and if necessary, they can automatically land the aircraft on their own without a pilot. However this is a serious issue and another black eye for an industry that has been beset with all kinds of delays and cancellations during the busy travel summer season. Now the fact is that were going to continue to take a look at that and some of the other delays and cancellations that have happened. And we should have more for this later in the day. Reporting live, tom baker, ktvu fox two news. All right, tom, thank you for that live report. Auto Industry Experts say the current negotiations are not going well. This is an escalation of tensions that we really dont see very often between the union and detroit three right now. Bay area agencies are kicking off transit month today and San Francisco civic center. That includes bart, which is planning a number of changes as soon as next week. Ktvu is james torres explains. Transit month has been an idea in the area well before the covid 19 pandemic, but now post pandemic, it seems the message is more necessary than ever. We just dont use it very often. But we have used it to go to the ballgame. So well probably give it a try.
