Well, younger americans are becoming more at risk for getting cancer, according to a new study, the study says it rates of cancer for people between the ages of 30 and 39 went up by 20 between 2010 and 2019. Researchers found that Breast Cancer cases among younger adults also went up by about 8. And they say obesity, alcohol and smoking are causing more people to develop cancer at a younger age. Well, our time is now. 537. A lot of people swear by the Health Benefits of it. Others say its an acquired taste. We are talking about something called kombucha. Not a lot of people have even tried it. I have to say, i have never tried it. I think i had a sip. Lets lets show you what pam cook has to say about Marin Kombucha. She went inside for a look at how its made, why its and also why its in the locker rooms at chase center. It starts with whats called a scoby, which stands for symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast. A friend of mine who worked at a distillery gave me a kombucha culture. You should try this like i want nothing to do with that. But he changed his mind. I have a chemistry background and so i applied that to what i was. Okay, ill try my best. And that was the start of Marin Kombucha. We had a Business Model that was if within three weeks were not at a break even state. And also a soccer mom hasnt reached out to us, then maybe this is just a failed business endeavor within just a few weeks, they were breaking even and a soccer mom did reach out and stopped by to pick up a case. We so what is kombucha . Kombucha in essence, if you were to define it, is fermented to its a two step two steep process where for the first step is a shorter time at a lower temperature and then the next step to get more out of the tea leaves will be a longer time at a higher temperature. And that provides a balance for our finished product. Whats funny is the scale of our tea bag to our kettles. Its for a giant. After the steeping is the fermentation process Computers Made similar to how yogurts made in that. If you finish your bowl of your jar of yogurt and theres a little bit left, you can add milk to it. Cover it, and it will all become yogurt. So every week we empty our fermenter, all but a little bit left of that ferment and that product. All goes into bottles and kegs and whats left behind. We add more tea and more sugar and more water and then that kombucha, thats there spreads throughout the rest. So how does it taste . A lot of kombucha is that youll try are going to be of heavily fizzy and ours is more of light and sweet. And so our various flavors actually hit different parts of the palate right now, one of our popular flavors is melon rose and you know, you can kind of for each person, they can distinguish one part, one flavor first and then the other. And for somebody else, it might be different where they taste the rose first and then the melon afterwards. Fancy names for what they call a functional drink. A lot of recent research has been around gut health and the pathway to the mind and without proper gut health, you wont have that channel. And then everything can be affected. Whether its your performance is an athlete or in an office at this time. Marin kombucha is the only kombucha that is nsf certified as a sports drink, so its the only one used in major league baseball. We got a whole kombucha station over here. Its also on tap in the warriors locker room at chase center for me, its really fun to know that these athletes are drinking our product and were helping fuel their success. All right, dave, are you sold . Ill try it if you do it. Okay. Im willing to try it. Okay. Why not . You have to do it first. All right. We got to get with pam. Maybe she can get it. Some of that. Yeah. Rosemary you are very busy this morning. Theres actually quite a bit of weather needs to talk about locally and across the state. Lets move on to the next picture. So we can show you highway four. Earlier this morning, there was a stalled vehicle on westbound highway four just east of bailey. It looks like things are flowing. Okay. Well continue to keep an eye on this. A usual traffic hotspot, bay bridge toll plaza, things looking good. Allie good morning to you and to all of you out there. We have a nice day coming our way. We will continue with on and off tropical vibes as that monsoonal moisture continues to pull in from the desert southwest. We are also tracking hurricane hillary at this time of a powerful category four. Its making its tracks towards areas of baja, california, expected to come ashore sometime on sunday as a category one. So the plan is that it will begin to weaken as it moves into these cooler waters and if it remains on track and the path that is forecast right now, it will enter Southern California sometime a sunday, perhaps as a Tropical Storm, which is going to be the first time this has occurred in more than 80 years. So we are going to be watching that. Meanwhile, here for us at home, this continues to be our element that brings in that monsoonal moisture on and off over the weekend. Just a very slight chance for a few scattered showers, maybe a little bit of thunder and lightning, not only for today, tomorrow, sunday, perhaps into monday. Again as remnants of hillary will be working into california as well. Temperatures right now on the mild side, 62 to start your day in San Francisco, 64 in oakland. Well good morning to you and we thank you for joining us. Welcome to mornings on two. Im dave klein. Im allie rasmus. Today is friday, august 18th. Happy friday to you too. It is a busy morning. We are covering a lot of news and especially in the weather arena. Rosemary oroczo keeping an eye on some unusual weather. Were going to have to wait for. Yes, a hurricane hillary as dave mentioned a moment ago, a category four still well off the coastline of baja, california. But well be making a path towards Southern California eventually. So were talking about that this morning. First, lets talk about the local weather, where we are going to have an enjoyable day. Temperatures in the upper 60s along the coastline to upper 80s, expected inland. We are waking up with the low clouds this morning. A little bit of patchy drizzle as well as fog. Well check in on the Current Conditions, line up your afternoon highs, talk about the weekend and also hurricane hillary coming up in just a little bit. Thank you, rosemary. Lets check traffic right now. Well start with a live picture of the east shore freeway where traffic is moving. Okay. Keep in mind, just north of this picture , westbound 80, just east of carlson boulevard, there is a crash blocking one of the lanes there. So any time you have a crash on this westbound 80 corridor, it starts to back things up. Even though fridays we do experience lighter traffic. But well keep an eye on that. Lets go to the san mateo bridge. This traffic looks moderate here. No major issues. If you are heading on 880 south from the hayward area at 238. There is a minor crash there that could slow things down. We do see traffic moving. Okay. A little bit sluggish in that commute westbound direction. Lets take a look at highway 24 and lafayette. Things looking okay here . No major problems to tell you about. Earlier this morning, there was a crash on highway 13 on the other side of the caldecott tunnel. We believe that all the lanes have reopened there. So hopefully as the morning goes on, it wont back things up here onto this stretch of 24 in lafayette, all right, ali, time is 601. Were still following breaking news in the east bay. Look at your screen. This is a live picture. There is still a heavy Police Presence outside of a dispensary in martinez. There was a crash early this morning. It happened nearby on Sunrise Drive. You can see some of the officers out there now. These are live pictures. Police at this point have not confirmed details on what led up to that crash or the condition of the driver. Again, this is in martinez, a crash that occurred early this morning. Well stay on this. Well be out there and well bring you updates throughout mornings on two. Our other major story this morning happening right now, officials in california and residents are like are doing what they can to start to prepare for what could be a once in a lifetime storm. Bailey ocarroll has been tracking the preparations for what is likely to be a Tropical Storm hillary sometime this weekend. Bailey. Thats right. Allie good morning. This could potentially be the first hurricane or Tropical Storm to hit the state of california since the 1930. Normally the storm significantly weakened are really just fall apart altogether before reaching california. Now, as of this morning, hurricane hillary has been upgraded to a category four storm, which is pretty strong. The scale is out of five cities in Southern California are getting prepared by building sand berms in low lying areas. City leaders in coastal cities say beaches and piers may even be shut down if need be. The city is currently mitigating and monitoring the strategies for the impacts that could potentially come with this hurricane hillary. Theres predictions up to 1 to 2in of rain possible in the coastal communities. Heavy winds and then also surf surf that will impact us. All hands on deck. Lifeguards are calling in everyone to work as they are expecting swells that would mean big waves for south facing beaches. Theres also the possibility of lightning. The Us National Hurricane center said hillarys maximum sustained winds had risen to 120mph, so anyone in the storms path also being asked to tie down or bring in anything that could blow away. Now the storm is expected to make landfall on the central baja, california peninsula by sunday. The strongest impacts in california expected to be felt sunday into monday. The last Tropical Storm to make landfall in Southern California, according to the National Weather service. That was september 25th, 1939. So its been a while. Back to you. All right, bailey, thank you. Now, as the hurricane moves further north, were getting a better idea of which parts of california will get hit. Our meteorologist rosemary oroce stn its going to hit. Still almost 400 miles off of baja, california, theyre expected to again make its path north and northwest. Heres a view of what we are expecting over the next few days. A category four and strengthening. Right now, the winds are 145mph. Looking at 150 a little bit later today and then as it makes its way towards baja, california, going to come ashore, at least this is what the path were seeing right now. It looks like sunday, sometime on sunday as a category one. So it is going to be weakening as it begins to move into cooler waters. And then when it enters Southern California, right now, it looks like perhaps as a Tropical Storm with winds at about 60mph. This looks like around sunday night. Now the rain is going to begin saturday night, lasting into the at least it looks like about monday. We just heard 1 to 3in of possibility at the coast. But some of that orographic lift into the hills and the mountains could bring a little bit more. 3 to 6in, maybe even isolated to ten. So well have to see how this all goes. Heres a look at saturday morning. Notice the moisture is still well south of us, just beginning to see a little bit there into california. But by sunday morning, we are now looking at rain for not only Southern California, but nevada and parts of the sierra, of course, continuing into it looks like monday. So a better look at this and what we can expect into the weekend as well as for us here at home. Coming up in just a little bit. Okay, rosemary, thank you. Time is 605.
