Not so much, but we have a lot going on here. Bigger fog bank today, no doubt about it. Yet the air aloft you can find mid 80s up up around 2500ft or so. So thats putting a cap on this fog. I mean, its making a bigger push but 5060s on the temps we also have some high and midlevel clouds coming in. Other than that, its pretty quiet day, but i would expect temperatures for a majority to come down here. 60, 70, 80, still inland. Temps into some 90s with another round of possibility. Partly cloudy skies later this afternoon and isolated showers. All right. Sals here. San mateo bridge or somewhere else. This time. Yeah, we do have some slow traffic on the bay bridge. And we also do have some traffic on the san mateo bridge. Ill show you the bay bridge first. You can see that traffic is moving along. Okay. If you are driving in this area here, you wont see any major problems on the bridge. But you will see some slow traffic at the toll plaza. Highway four has slowing. This has been very routine. Steve mentioned the san mateo bridge. It looks pretty routine heading out to the high rise and to the peninsula 701. Lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. Were monitoring the developing story in the south bay where San Jose Police officer remains hospitalized after she was shot. Reporting to a call. Ktvu reporter Bailey Ocarroll is at Santa Clara Valley medical center. With what we know about what happened and how the officers doing. Bailey hey, allie, good morning. Thats right. This officer is being treated here in san jose this morning at this hospital right behind me. Now, according to police, she is in critical, but stable condition. They have not released her name yet this morning. What we do know is that she was shot when she was responding to a domestic disturbance call with her partner here in san jose. Now, i do want to show you this man, 44 year old gabriel carreras, is who officers who police say shot that officer after a four hour long standoff with police. He was taken into custody. Cabreras wife told police that he was drunk. He busted open a bathroom door and then she accused him of trying to hit her. She did call police to report this incident around 820 on wednesday morning, san joses police chief called the suspect a coward who should never have had a gun. Carreras has an extensive criminal history and was on felony probation in Santa Clara County. Less than 30s after arriving, one of the officers attempted to call up to the front door balcony and announced announce themselves as San Jose Police officers. The suspect exited onto the balconies, landing and from a position of concealment discharge a firearm striking our officer. Now, according to the chief, the officer was shot in her upper body outside of where her bulletproof vest covers. Neither officer returned fire, but her partner actually pulled her to safety and then began attending to her injuries there at the scene. Now, this year, this is the second time a Police Officer here in san jose has been shot in the line of duty. This marks the First Time Ever here that a female Police Officer was shot in the line of duty. Reporting live in san jose, im Bailey Ocarroll, ktvu fox two news. All right, bailey thank you. Time 703 in San Francisco. So concerned Community Members gathered at a very busy intersection where a four Year Old Girl was killed. Her father was seriously hurt. This week, the crowd gathered at fourth and king streets. Thats where the little girl and her parents were crossing the street tuesday evening when a car hit them. Balloons and flowers were placed at a street light. Its an emotional time for many. We wanted to hold space. We want to definitely have a place for people to come to grieve, to hear, to hear whats happening and to be present. Interview with each other at this point, no information about the family has been released. The police are saying the driver, 71 year old karen cartagena, was arrested and shes facing three charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and also vehicular homicide. If you say theres no sign of drugs or alcohol is being a factor in this crash, this is the 11th traffic death in San Francisco so far this year. Both police and neighborhood safety groups say this is an especially dangerous intersection with traffic rushing to get on or off interstate 80. And pedestrians going to caltrain or to oracle park for sports events. This has happened before. Crashes are happening here all the time. And so those are the streets that need the most aggressive treatments by the city to really make it possible for someone to cross the street safely, reduce the lanes. No turn on red. So theres just reducing all kinds of opportunities for conflict. Now, the speed limit at that intersection, 35 miles an hour, but people walking in the area say they never see drivers going that slow. Emergency responders in San Francisco will hold an earthquake drill on Treasure Island today starting at 945 this morning. Pga in San Francisco. Firefighters will practice how to respond to a major earthquake. Theyll practice what to do when gas mains are damaged after a magnitude 7. 3 quake. Theyll also practice evacuations and recoveries on the north end of Treasure Island. Our time now, 705, the death toll went up during the night from the deadly wildfire in maui that burned through the town of lahaina. Now there are at least 111 confirmed deaths, but only nine of the victims have been identified. 1300 people are still unaccounted for. Fox weathers robert ray is in maui right now where 20 search and cadaver dog teams are out there searching the burn zones and more remains are expected to be found every day. Robert. Good morning. Yeah, good morning to you from maui here. And indeed, yes. Cadaver dogs as we see this video are out when the sun is up and it will happen again in a few hours, searching through the Historic Town of lahaina. And they are looking for the remains of human beings, souls that are still underneath the rubble or the ashes. 111 people confirmed dead at this point. Officials expecting that number to unfortunately go up. And that town of lahaina, you see the video. It is just destroyed over 90 of the structures are gone as the wildfires swept through there over a week ago. Unfortunately were also seeing local cells get together to try and give each other not only the support and love, but also things like water and food and clothes and diapers for babies, for people that have lost everything. In fact, the Hawaiian Cultural Center in lahaina was burned down during the fire, and the president of that Cultural Center is on the ground trying to help his fellow hawaiians. Lets listen. And a lot of the families that come to our center as a hub, they no longer have homes. Some families that we lost in a fire. So if i dont stay busy and doing nothing that i do, im not going to be able to cope with the situation right now. So thats why i got to stay busy. I got to keep going. I got to hustle as much as we can to make sure that we can ease the pain from our community, knowing that one day terrible pain that everyone here is going through. As you know, the search does continue. As i said, dave, and you know, until that is done, then i dont think that the reality can truly set in in the morning and on top of that, you know, theres answers or the residents want answers for how this all started. Why there wasnt alarms that went off like there would be for hurricanes or other events. And people want to know, you know, what can be done so that this never happens again. So many questions out there right now. President biden will be here this coming monday to tour the damage as again, cadaver dogs will be out when the sun comes up here looking for those swells that lost their lives. Dave. Robert, before you go, im looking at you and i see you out there right now. How is the air out there where you are . Is it difficult to breathe. Fortunately, it is not. And that is a good thing. The fires are are contained, although theres still hot spots that do pop up, but theyre not big enough to contaminate the air at this point. But i can tell you, for those residents that had to some of them jump into the Pacific Ocean to escape those flames and made their way out of the town of lahaina, you can imagine when youre in an inferno or even close to it, that they potentially will have some damage to their lungs and certainly need to take care of themselves in the coming weeks and even months, get themselves checked out again, just a very active situation here still on the island of maui, in particular, lahaina, that Historic Town. Dave. Yeah, thank you for the update. That was robert ray of fox weather. We appreciate you. Thank you for the report. And well continue to watch the continuing coverage of the deadly maui wildfires on fox weather. And dont forget, you can follow roberts journey there in hawaii and get all the latest from the islands. You can download the fox weather app and watch live on your favorite streaming device. Just use your phone. You can scan the qr code right there on your screen or you can go to fox weather. Com and as robert just told you, some of the survivors are angry that mauis emergency siren system wasnt used to warn of the fire danger. The maui Emergency Management chief says he doesnt regret that sirens were not used. He says sirens have only been used for tsunami warnings. And they say people have been taught head to the mountains when they hear the sirens, which would have sent them directly into the flames. However, on the maui county website, it says sirens can be used for other emergencies, including wildfires. Arborists now say lahaina is famous. Banyan tree will likely survive, even though it was badly burned in the maui wildfires. The canopy of the 150 year old tree turned black when the fire roared through the town. But arborists say they are optimistic because the tree is showing signs of life, such as flowing sap crews are now spraying the tree with six truckloads of water every day to help bring it back to life. To me, it seems, though, the fire went over the top and burnt the top of the tree. But the base in the trunk is relatively not damaged in that sense. The banyan tree was imported as a sapling from india and planted in 1873. Its one of the largest of its kind in the world. It has multiple trunks and spans two acres of land. Ctvs andre, she joins us live and says Police Believe this was an organized break in and car theft. Andre yeah well allie several customers of the firestone shop here at 28th and broadway in oakland got that call after the thefts were discovered early saturday morning. Now, Anita Waldron received one of those calls at her car, had been stolen. She had dropped off her 2016 subaru at the shop to get some work done the day before. At 730 saturday morning, i got a phone call that said they were sorry. Id asked them about security. Just a few hours before, and she wasnt the only victim either. Thieves had broken into the Firestone Store and taken a total of six cars. They had crashed into the front window. So to get in and then unbolted the roll up door and just drove out with six cars, it would have taken at least six people to drive six cars out. Yeah so that break in was just one of several stores damaged. Saturday morning security video obtained by channel two shows several vehicles in the immediate area were taken and used to ram the walls and doors of other businesses like you saw there. Walton says she watched the video but did not see her car. In fact, she says she has no idea where her car is. She considers it a total loss at this point and is working with her Insurance Company and with firestone to get a replacement vehicle. Now, we contacted firestones Parent Company, which sent us a statement saying in part, quote, safety is our top priority. We became or when we became aware of the situation, we contacted local authorities and worked cooperatively with them as they investigated. Waldron says she considers her car another loss to oaklands growing crime problem that weve seen a lot of lately. Dave. All right, andre, thank you. Time now, 717 with the bay area as big as city has just been named, one of the top places to raise a family. Us news and world report looked at several factors for the list, including the cost of living, average salary and quality of high school educations. With those ratings, san jose came in as the second best city to raise a family number one. Hunter ville, alabama. San jose earned a high ranking for having the best College Readiness among high School Students. No other California City made the top 25 list. 717 and if you are commuting to san jose this morning, Sal Castaneda has an eye on the roads there. Hows it look . It looks pretty good there, ali. And the south bay, if we can start in san jose right now, the commute doesnt look all that slow in most areas. Theres a little slowing on 101 and 280. But again, this is the early part of that commute. That commute tends to get going later. Some commutes that are well underway include the bay bridge that is backed up almost all the way out to the maze and the metering lights are on. There are no major issues here on the bay bridge getting into San Francisco and theres not a lot of crashes involved today on the commute. Its pretty good. We dont see a lot of activity. Highway four does have some slow traffic, 680 as well. And the san mateo bridge is moderate. So i do like that we dont have a lot of crashes to talk about. 718 lets talk about todays weather. Heres steve south. Thank you, sir. Up in the mountains, the moisture continues to take aim up and down the sierra northeast. California northern sacramento valley, Mendocino County up to northwest california. Not a lot of rain, our big borders, but theres been some king near kings beach point, zero seven, truckee, 0. 04, South Lake Tahoe and tahoe keys both with 0. 03 and homewood, picked up 0. 02. So not a lot, but a little bit will keep going about. Were sitting at 83 warm degrees. Ben lomond mountain, 76 at berkeley lab is 57. Mount tamalpais is 78 mile. Diablo 81. Thats warm air aloft. If you need to break that down, need to bring in some cooler air. So the inland temps rio vista, brentwood, livermore start to come down a little bit. I think a majority do. Theres a much bigger fog bank today. 50 in the mountains, truckee, South Lake Tahoe mammoth said 52 degrees. A lot of moisture will continue to work its way up the crest of the sierra and then play into more thunderstorm activity. Numerous fires in northern california. So many lightning strikes, but were on the drier edge for now, although we saw yesterday some development late in the day around Mount Hamilton to the ultima pass. I expect that to continue today. Its all about hillary, though, front and center now. Category one hurricane expected to reach, feeding off 84 degree water temps. I was just looking sandy water temps are around 68 to 70 degrees near average. Mission bay, coronado, o, la jolla, 68 to 70. Thats about average for this time of year. Thats cold water, though, for a hurricane. So as it reaches category four, everything is pointing in that direction. Theres some rapid intensification should reach category four as it gets near to the west of baja, but then its going to encounter some much colder water. You get in the upper 6070s. Its just what track do you believe . I mean, one of them takes it right over us majority, though. Take it towards san diego, la, then over to the high desert, then up into the central sierra. Now this is the National Hurricane cone. Its just they dont know the exact track. So theres a cone. It could be on the left of that, could be to the right of that. But to see it for la, a tropical system only 1939, near long beach, did we have a system move in. But that was long before we named him or had hurricane tracks. The key is going to be a strong high in the middle of the country and the upper low, which is off our coast. It takes that moisture here. Here these projections will change. Its just every six hours, 12 hours. These are changing. So well just ease into this. It does look like the Sierra Nevada, tahoe and truckee, more so than anywhere else, is going to get in on some pretty heavy rain. Well see if its more east or west. I tend to favor a little more westward progression. Thats just me 6070 on a lot of the temps coast and bay, a little bit of drizzle out there. A much bigger fog bank sunny then some afternoon clouds could be a few scattered showers. Still one more day of warm to hot inland. Its just tough to break this down in that air aloft is so warm, but everything is pointing towards that happening friday into saturday. And then well keep an eye on all that cloud cover coming up from the south sunday, monday. All right. Thank you, steve. It was once one of the Top Destinations to visit, but now tourists are thinking twice about going to this famous resort town in the middle of the caribbean. The sacramento perch survived the catastrophic floods of the 1860s and became so abundant it was regularly sold at San Francisco fish markets, but it eventually died off due to invasive species. Its now relegated to mostly isolated lakes, reservoirs and ponds with very few predators. However, as the planet heats up and threatens cold water, species like trout, the sacramento perch could flourish because it can withstand extreme conditions. And so in the future , if there is less cold water out there and more Climate Change, of course we can actually have game fish for the future. There are native to california. The state is releasing sacramento perch into Southern California waterways to expand the territories of this fish and increase breeding. Scientists say this particular perch has markings and features that suggest its related to marine life dating back 15 million years ago. Our time now 725 San FranciscoInternational Airport plans to cut back on how much electricity it uses during emergencies. Airport officials told us how theyre going to deal with emergency flex alerts during really hot weather. Now theyll reduce the amount of air Train Service and also cut back on lighting use. We talked to the ceo of an connect about how you can reduce your energy use during a flex alert. The key part is use less from 4 to 9 p. M. Monday through friday. And the amount that you just its an example. If you take your electric dryer and you do your loads during the day or late at night, instead of from 4 to 9, thats going to save you over 30 a month just by doing that same number of loads of laundry, just moving the time. So we really care a lot now about when you use power. Thats what costs so much. Not as much about how much you use anymore. So good advice, debra also says many of us dont realize a lot of things like game consoles are using power in sleep mode. Justice for you since 1972 what city officials are doing now as waymo and cruise will soon start charging for rides and more than 50 wildfires are burning across california with fire. Officials say they suspect is causing it for. From ktvu fox two news. This is mornings on two. Well, good morning. Welcome back to mornings on two. Im dave clark. Im ellie rasmus. It is thursday, august 17th. Friday evening. Yes, it is a friday. We also have Steve Paulson here. I busy for august. Its not just fog. Were talking about. Theres a lot more going on. Thats for sure. We do have a bigger fog bank today. This is the biggest push ive seen all week. The air aloft, though, is warm. Youre seeing 70s and 80s, yet i do think were cool off a little bit. Its just everything is pointing that direction and its just maybe some inland temps will still bump up into the 90s, but a majority will see a little cooler pattern here. Tremendous amounts of tropical moisture continue to rotate around this low that weve had for over a week now. Some of that could clip us later in the afternoon. So im just broad brushing. Its called severe because you just cant pinpoint it in this pattern. 6070s by the water 80s held on to some 90s for inland areas but i think most locations start to come down a little bit. Theres a big fog bank out there and sal is seeing it on his Traffic Cameras as well. I have, steve, ive seen some fog on the golden gate bridge. Were going to start there because the fog was a little bit lower earlier in the morning and now it seems to be a little bit more manageable. I can see more of the bridge, for example, but you still might run into it on the waldo grade. You can also see that at the bay bridge, theres not a lot of fog. But here coming on the shore freeway, there is some in berkeley. When you get to the bay bridge, its high enough that its not affecting drivers there is a moderate backup at the toll plaza. 731. Lets get back to the headlines. Okay sal, thank you. Well, the San FranciscoCity Attorney wants california regulators to block the approval of driverless taxis in San Francisco. In fact, just last week, the California PublicUtilities Commission voted to allow cruise and waymo to expand their services and start offering driverless rides. But theres been pushback and there are safety concerns. Amanda quintana is in San Francisco now. You have more details. Good morning, amanda. Good morning. Yes, and a motion filed yesterday. The City Attorney said that San Francisco will suffer serious harm from the expansion of these Driverless Cars here in the city. The Public Utility Commission just voted last thursday to approve cruise and waymo to start getting customers to pay for rides here 24 hours a day, seven days a week with no limit on their fleet size. City attorney david chiu says this was approved even though the commission knew that cruise cars have interfered with passenger and public safety. Just a day after that approval, about ten cruise cars stopped working in north beach, creating a large traffic backup cruise. Blamed connectivity issues and said theyre working to prevent it from happening again. On tuesday, a cruise car was seen stuck in wet concrete after it drove onto a construction site. These are just a couple examples of the motionless dozens of similar incidents, including a time when a driverless car blocked fire trucks from leaving the station for nearly ten minutes. The Biggest Issue that was not really addressed very thoroughly at the puc meeting was the interference with Emergency Responders and that doesnt matter. It doesnt matter whether someones in the car or not. If you have this vehicle thats blocking the road and an ambulance cant get through or a fire truck cant get through, that puts peoples lives in danger. The motion says there are currently just under 400 cruise cars in the city, but cruise plans to add more. And that could mean thousands. Chu explains that the fear is this would only increase the interference with first responders. Public transit construction and just the general flow of traffic. Although cruise and waymo were approved to start operating as soon as they were approved last week, if you download both of those apps right now, which i did this morning, youre asked to give an invite write code. So it is invite only right now while they just have a few cars. They say only a select number of cars here in the city. Once they get more cars, they plan on expanding and letting more people enter into those apps. So you could be on a waiting list right now, but there are apparently a lot of people on that waiting list. But reportedly on monday, waymo is going to start their service. So we will see when that happens live in San Francisco, Amanda Quintana, ktvu fox two news. Thank you, amanda. Cal fire now says a fire burning in Santa Clara County is 40 contained. It started just after 5 00 last night off highway 101 in morgan hill near the coyote creek golf drive. Exit one lane of the freeway was shut down for more than an hour, but it has since reopened. 71 acres burned in the fire. The cause is still under investigation and fire Officials Say lightning started dozens of fires in the far northern part of california. More than 50 fires are burning right now across the state, many of them on federal land. Lightning is a suspected cause of the three fires in siskiyou county, as well as others in trinity shasta, nevada del norte and mendocino counties. Cal fire is getting ready for the peak wildfire season. We are really going into a period now where were at the mercy of the weather and that really is the heat, the wind and any potential lightning that comes through the fuels or the driest we traditionally see the offshore wind events this time of year. And californias normal weather pattern has the wind and the heat extending at least through september and possibly through october. Santa cruz county Health Officials are worried about an uptick in covid 19 cases at some Nursing Homes. Four of the countys seven Nursing Homes had covid outbreak this week. Santa cruz county Officials Say a lack of consistent vaccinations may be part of the reason for the jump in cases at these facilities. In recent weeks, the county is considering a new temporary health order to require all workers to wear masks until cases decline. Time now. 736 the election meddling indictment against former President Trump in georgia. It is raising concerns about Election Security right here in the bay area during the 2024 president ial election. Now the indictment in georgia accuses Trump Supporters of illegally getting access to voter data and the security system. The software of the dominion voting system, trying to affect the 2020 president ial election. Many bay area counties use that same dominion software. But state election Officials Say california has more security protections. In georgia, it was 5. 2 was the Software Version number that was used. And here in california, we use a california specific software. We have source code review. We have accessibility testing, functional testing. The systems are air gapped. They cant be connected to the internet, nor can they even have the capability to connect to the internet. Now, kristen connolly, the Contra Costa County clerk and registrar of voters, says bay area Election Officials are preparing with Cyber Security precautions. We have our it team that is regularly attending calls by the fbi. So that we understand what the current Cyber Threats are. Connolly says physical access to voting equipment. Its tightly restricted. Election officials are also meeting with Law Enforcement about protecting election workers. In danville, there was some heated debate at the School Board Meeting this week over proposals to recognize the Lgbtq Community in the San Ramon Valley unified School District. The school board was considering resolutions for the Upcoming School year, including one that recognized june as pride month, another supporting a day of silence to raise awareness about bullying against lgbtq youth. Community members spoke out for and against the resolutions. At some point, day of silence was introduced at the High School Level and has trickled down to middle school level and Elementary School level. Elementary School Students have no idea what this means unless they are being taught whether it be at home or at school. Ive heard people up here before me talk about the pride flag and it being flown. And i want to say from my own point of view, from the people i hear having the pride flag fly anywhere in the district, much less at all schools, is an amazing way to show students that they are seeing that they are safe and that they are protected by this district. In the end, the school board passed all the resolutions it was considering. All right. Lets talk about traffic. Get you to where you need to go. Sound. Did you fix everything out there yet . Well im trying two days. You know, sometimes its heavy lifting. Today its not so much , though. We have a lot of routine traffic out there and this mornings commute looks okay here at the toll plaza. It is backed up to the maze. We havent had a lot of crashes, which is great news. But there is still some slow traffic. I dont want you to think its really light out there because its not. You will see highway four is slow. All the way into pittsburgh and 680 and 242 are slow, but again, most of it is just routine slowing. We havent had a lot of crashes reported, but its very slow from brant all the way into berkeley on 80. And we have kind of a bigger delay at the richmond, san rafael bridge toll plaza. Its moving, though. Its moving through. There have been no major problems. Weve talked about the fog and the fog is an issue in marin county. Its a little thick here on the golden gate bridge, south end. Its was a little thick here. Its lifting. And at the bay bridge, its no issue, but its backed up all the way out to the maze. 740. Lets bring steve back with todays weather. That was good information and a nice segue style. Thank you, sir. Why, thank you. Me . Any time. Yes we do have a lot of fog and some of that is lifting a little bit visible satellite. Now visible, if you will. Thats the biggest fog bank of the week. Hands down. No doubt about it. I mean, it leads me to believe well get some cooling here because theres just a little bit more to work with. Also, tropical moisture continues to work its way up the sierra north east, california, tahoe for sure. Northern sacramento valley, Mendocino County and then del norte and humboldt county. And thats been the source of so many lightning strikes and so many fires. I dont think thats changing anytime soon. Its all about hillary, though, now. A hurricane rapidly intensifying, expected to reach category four. Now its feeding off 84 or 85 degree water that that is a perfect breeding ground for it. But by the time we get to it looks like saturday. I mean, category four, thats a whopper. All right. Its not its not that. Thats fernanda. Its wiped out. That ran into drier. Its right there. Thats the path. Its heading up the coast of baja. And then eventually its going to go in somewhere, somewhere around la or san diego. Supposedly, he says a couple. The forecast models, though, including one very good hurricane forecast model. Take it over us. So thats why im leading into this. This is the National Hurricane center, the cone of probability for the First Time Ever for los angeles to be inside one. Its impossible to do the exact track. So they make the cone so it could be over this side could be on this side. So theyre putting it in the middle. The water temps off san diego and la are about where they should be, which is 64 to 71. La jolla is around 70, 71. These are average for this time of year. But for hurricane ian, thats cold water , baby. So once it starts to move northward, its going to encounter much colder water, begin to fall apart. However itll probably maintain some tropical identity by the time it arrives, unless it stays off the coast. Right now, thats not happening. Majority of this takes it into Southern California. There are some projections of seven plus inches of rain in the mountains of san diego, Southern California. Now, again, this will probably change. Its not happening until monday. So we have a long way to go. The Sierra Nevada and tahoe, truckee, pretty safe to say theyre going to get in on some rain or a lot of rain. It remains to be seen if we get any or not. Were close, but it could easily change. So well just throw it out there for now. For today, morning fog, a little bit of drizzle. So sunny, then some afternoon clouds, maybe another round of some scattered showers, especially Santa Clara CountyContra Costa County in the afternoon. I wanted to cool some areas down. I think a majority do still held on to a few 90s cooler for friday weekend. Looks okay, but well start to cloud it up sunday night into monday. Okay. Steve thank you. Time is 743. Well, the grape harvest and many bay area vineyards is getting underway now. And a new study says despite a late start to the grape growing season this year because of the rainy winter, the overall trend is actually going in the opposite direction. Researchers at uc san diego found that higher temperatures linked to Climate Change have actually shift the growing season by as much as a month earlier, compared to the 1950s, which is major because the amount of heat that a grape gets affects what wines it could be used for. Researchers say theyll keep studying the changes, trying to help winemakers make their plans as. Time now is 749. Lets check in with Sal Castaneda for a look at the commute. Usually around 7 00, its when the south bay kind of kind of picks up. Is that the case this morning . That is true. And we also have a couple of new crashes there, ali and dave, the first one is westbound for at summersville. Now, fortunately, this crash, i would say, is most people have already passed this point. Most people are already here heading over to concord and the crash is here and its causing a little bit of a backup. But most of the slow traffic, again, is after that at the bay bridge. We do have a bigger backup this morning. Its backed up to the maze and the metering lights are on. No problems on that. San mateo bridge, ali mentioned san jose and definitely its getting slower as we are in the 7 00 hour, almost 8 00 here. And definitely slow traffic going from east to west in the valley , but nothing unusual. These are normal slowdowns. And if you drive this way every day, you probably are expecting it. Maybe tomorrow, though, since its tomorrows friday, we might have a lighter commute here, but not today. 750 lets talk about some of that fog ive seen steve. Theres plenty to go around. So the most weve seen this entire week here, this is the biggest fog bank by far. Leads me to believe were going to get some cooling. Now. They are aloft, though. You get up a couple of thousand feet, you can find 80 degree temps. So thatll still translate into some warm inland towns. But were seeing a pretty good surge, especially north, a little bit south, but more so to the north here. But over the next couple of days, the low thats to the west of us is going to start to usher in a cooler pattern. Theres just a lot of moisture, though, that continues to ride up the sierra up into tahoe where theyve had some rain thunderstorm activity to the north and thatll continue. Even Mendocino County, hurricane hillary, category one, expected to ramp up and intensify to make it to a category four. All signs are pointing towards this coming in somewhere around Southern California, although, again, its four days away. But its going to intensify here. And then give some tremendous rainfall here depending on where it moves inland. But certainly it looks to be somewhere around Southern California, but were not out of the out of the mix yet here. Water temps around san diego, la are pretty close to average. But for a hurricane, thats cold water, it needs 84 plus to really feed off that energy. And you get in the 60s, thatll along with any shear will start to wipe it out. But South Lake Tahoe, truckee, the sierra i dont care what direction it goes, theyre probably in on some pretty hefty rain totals here going forward. Morning fog, a little bit of drizzle in there. Sunny. I think well get some afternoon clouds, maybe a few scattered showers to the east. Again, we saw that yesterday. I want some 90s holding on. But most locations are coming down a few degrees. Well continue that on friday. Some cloud cover saturday more so as we go into sunday and monday you guys. All right see thank you time 752 in San Francisco, people coming together to make sure that a whole food store is built in one neighborhood. The study was conducted by researchers with the World Resources institute. It found that all seven states that depend on the Colorado River face a extremely high water risk. Despite the rainy winter we had, which led to the interior department announcing smaller reductions in water deliveries from the Colorado River next year. Its always good to hear that the health of the Colorado River has improved long term. This doesnt mean that were out of a drought and this doesnt mean that we need to relax or that we need to stop making every effort in arizona to use our water as wisely as possible. Welcome to mornings on two as you look live from our emeryville camera toward San Francisco and you can see the low hanging clouds over the skyline right now were in for unsettled weather pattern over the next couple of days. And some of you might even hear some thunderstorms as well. Thank you for joining us this morning. Im andre senior. Im allie rasmus. Today is thursday, august 17th. And for more on the changing weather conditions, lets check in with Steve Paulson for look start boarding up the windows. Right. Its going to be that bad. Im just kidding. Miss Southern California is looking for some torrential rain. We have a much bigger fog bank in place here. It does look cooler to me. Theres some big spreads on the forecast highs today. So im kind of splitting the difference. 5060s on the temps, but most weve seen all week by far, especially north, but starting to fill in here. For many, we didnt have anything like that the last couple of days. So i do think the lowest starting to make its presence felt. Still a lot of tropical moisture has to work its way through. Could see some scattered showers for us later this afternoon, especially out to the east 60s, 70s, 80s, held on to 90 for another day or so. All right. Sallys here. Its been kind of busy. Anything new . Not really. Some of that fog, though, has moved out, steve, or risen higher, maybe because im looking at a portion of the shore freeway that was just fogged in a few minutes ago and now its not and the traffic is moving well there. Coincidentally now, if youre driving here at the bay bridge, theres still a big backup. It is not a light day at the bay bridge. Sometimes at this point, we do have lighter days. Today is not one of them. San mateo bridge, though, seems to be improving. And if you look at some of these other commutes that are also looking good, this is a live look at interstate 880 right outside the coliseum. And you can see getting to the Oakland Airport here using this freeway is not an issue right now, 801. Lets get back to the headlines. Thank you, sal. 802 and San Jose Police officer remains in the hospital. She was shot responding to a call, a domestic disturbance call last night. Ktvu is Bailey Ocarroll is at Santa Clara Valley medical center. Thats where the officer is currently being treated. Bailey, whats the latest on the situation there . Good morning, ali. I can say this officer is being treated at the hospital here in san jose right behind me. We do know that she is in critical but stable condition. Police have not released her name yet this morning. But we do know, like i said, that she is being treated here. We do know that she was shot when she was responding to a domestic disturbance call. Now police say that this man i want to show you what he looks like, a 44 year old, a gabriel carreras, is the man who shot the officer. And after an hours long standoff with police, he was taken into custody. His wife told police that he was drunk, that he busted open a bathroom door and then she accused him of trying to hit her. She did call police about the incident at about 820 yesterday morning. San joses police chief called the suspect a coward who should have never had a gun to begin with. Carreras does have an extensive criminal history and he was on felony probation in Santa Clara County. Less than 30s after arriving, one of the officers attempted to call up to the front door balcony and announced announce themselves as San Jose Police officers. The suspect exited onto the balcony landing and from a position of concealment discharged a firearm , striking our officer. Now, according to the chief, the officer was shot in her upper body outside of where her bulletproof vest covered. Neither the officer or her partner, who was with her at the time returned fire, but her partner did pull her to safety right after she was shot. That partner also began attending to her injuries. And while police, like i mentioned, have not officially identified the officer who was shot, the partner was identified by south bay assemblyman evan lowe. Evans says his brother ryan is the one who pulled his partner to safety. The assemblyman said he was not surprised by his brothers selfless actions. Now this marks the second time that an officer was shot in the line of duty in san jose this year. And the very first time that a female officer was shot in the line of duty report live in san jose, im Bailey Ocarroll, ktvu fox two news. Billy thank you ato for your time. People gathered in San Francisco at the busy intersection where a driver struck and killed a four Year Old Girl and seriously injured her father. This week the crowd gathered at fourth and king streets where that little girl and her parents were crossing the street when a car hit them tuesday evening. They placed balloons and flowers at a streetlight. Their vigil organizers say many people have been emotionally touched by this girls death. We wanted to hold space. We want to definitely have a place for people to come to grieve, to hear, to hear whats happening. And to be present and to be with each other. Officials have not released any information about the family. Police arrested karen carter, the 71 year old faces charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and vehicular homicide as well. Now, investigators say drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in this crash here. They say this is the 11th traffic death in San Francisco this year. Both police and neighborhood safety groups say this is an especially dangerous intersection with traffic rushing to get on and off interstate to 80 and pedestrians coming and going to caltrain and oracle park for sports events. This has happened before. Crashes are happening here all the time. And so those are the streets that need the most aggressive treatments by the city to really make it possible for someone to cross the street safely, reduce the lanes, know and turn on red. So theres just reducing all kinds of opportunities for conflict. The speed limit at the intersection is 35 miles an hour. However, the people we spoke to who walk in that area say they never see people driving that slowly. San jose mayor matt mahan is criticized the investigation into the Fire Departments pink poodle scandal. Mehan says the findings appear incomplete and he does not think the city is getting the full story. The standard morning commute on 80, which is to say that its been a little bit rough when it comes to the traffic on 80. I put it on the map here just to show you that its pretty slow here from elsa brandt all the way into berkeley. And then we saw that fog there that we were talking about. When you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, it is backed up to the maze. So today is not a light day. It is getting better, though, on the san mateo bridge. Its much better than it was just a few minutes ago. If youre driving to the san mateo bridge on 80, it looks good. And the san jose commute is also slow, although it seems to be having some signs of improvement. Some survivors are angry that mauis emergency siren system was not used to warn of the fire danger. Now, the maui Emergency Management chief says he does not regret that decision because the sirens have only been used for tsunami warnings. And they say people have been taught to head to the mountains when they hear the sirens, which would have sent them directly into the flames. But the maui county website says the sirens can be used in other emergencies , including wildfires in butte county. People who survived the campfire feel a sense of empathy and understanding, with survivors of the maui wildfires. They dont know if anyones injured. Chp is on the way. It does look like the south bay was getting better, but theres still some lingering slow traffic everywhere, which is typical. If you drive there every day, theres a look at 280 downtown, though, that looks pretty good as you drive over. Lets talk about Contra Costa County highway four does have some slowing. We still have that crash westbound for at summersville road thats now beginning to create a backup into antioch because of that crash. If youre past that, this is the normal morning commute getting over to concord and still a little fog out there although its not foggy at the bay bridge toll plaza. Its pretty full filled up though. Its backed up for 15 to 20 minute delay there at 818. Lets bring steve back in with todays weather. Sal. Thank you, sir. Last 24 hours has seen more tropical moisture. We had a little bit of thunderstorm activity east of fremont, Mount Hamilton to about the altamont pass. Livermore then fell apart, but the clouds came in. Weve cleared out from that. Although i would expect those to come back later on. Not the case. Up in the mountains theres been some off and on rain, more so than thunderstorm in and around lake tahoe, northeast california. But for tahoe proper there. Kings beach, truckee, south, lake tahoe and homewood. Ill even throw in tahoe keys in there with a oh. 02. 0 3 to 0. 07 as far as our Higher Elevations go, boy, the air aloft is warm, 82 at mount victor, berkeley lab, though, 57 and 96 humidity. So theres your inversion. You get up a couple of thousand feet, 70s and 80s. Need to break that down before you can really cool in these inland temps. Theyll still be warm to hot today, although we do have a much bigger fog bank in place. 50 in the mountains. Truckee 57, South Lake Tahoe at 59. But the low cloud deck more extensive towards santa cruz, monterey peninsula, up and down the coast, all parts of the peninsula actually increasing a little bit towards san jose over san pablo bay. And no doubt about it, up towards santa rosa leads me to believe will be a little bit cooler there. The forecast highs today. The tools that i use for santa rosa showed 78, 79, 87 and 90. Im like, okay, ill go 85 and just split the difference. Lots of thunderstorms. The lightning strikes in northern california, but its about hillary rapidly intensifying, almost becoming a major hurricane. Hurricane is category one, expected to get the category two pretty soon and probably bomb out at category four as we head towards saturday. The track right now takes it toward san diego, somewhere around there it looks to be. But the water temps there, 64 to 71. Thats cold for a hurricane. For a hurricane, it needs 84. Once you get into the 60s, that starts to deteriorate rapidly. But this is such a wide mass field of clouds that eventually its going to move in. Its just depends. We have four days to get the details. So its just, you know, lets see where it goes. The consensus is to take it into Southern California, the high desert and then the sierra, then into nevada. But its close enough that ill mention it for us for now, 60 and 70s, coast and bay 80 to 90 inland. I think well get some afternoon clouds. One more hot day inland. Its just tough to break this down, this pattern, but it sure looks like its happening today into tomorrow. Then well watch for all that cloud cover starting late sunday into monday. You guys, thank you, steve. Cal fire firefighters fighting more than 50. Wildfires burning in northern california. And were heading into some unsettled weather despite the sun kind of sun over here, oakland astoria. Lets turn things over now to Steve Paulson to see what things are looking like on that map. Looks pretty busy. Well, fog, but you know, itll be what happens with hillary right now. A lot of the projections dont even come close to us. They take it down to Southern California, southern nevada, arizona. Well see a long way to go. Fog and low clouds, though, ramped up here yesterday was still hot inland. We talked about that coast and bay. Looks like today they will begin a little cool down and the tropical moisture continues to rotate in head north. And some of that filters through with us. And boy, that adds that humidity to the mix here, although were mostly sunny now, but some could pop up later today, 60, 70, 80, 90 on those temps. All right, sal, here to talk about south bay, maybe. Yes, we can talk about the south bay because its getting better, steve. As a matter of fact, we can start there because right now traffic is moving along slowly on 85 to 80, northbound to 80 at the end. So they had that crash. Fortunately, most of the commute had already gone by that area. Still a little slowing, though. And i can tell you that traffic is a little bit slow, although right there in downtown san jose , it doesnt look all that bad here at the bay bridge toll plaza. It is backed up all the way out to the maze. So thats the busiest commute. The san mateo bridge is doing better than the bay bridge right now. Thats improving quite a bit as you head over to san mateo, 830. Lets go back to the headlines now. Thank you. San Francisco City attorney wants california regulators to block the approval of driverless taxis in the city. Now just last week, you remember we reported that the California PublicUtilities Commission voted to allow crews and waymo to expand their services and start offering driverless rides. But theres been pushback and there are safety concerns, too. Ctvs Amanda Quintana is live in the city this morning with details. Amanda yes, well, that motion filed yesterday. In it, the City Attorney says that San Francisco will suffer serious harm from the expansion of these driverless taxis here in the city. The Public Utilities commission, they just approved ted cruz and waymo last thursday, allowing them to take passengers 24 hours a day, seven days a week with no limit on their fleet size City Attorney david chiu says this was approved even though the commission knew that cruise cars have interfered with passenger and public safety. These are just a couple examples. The motionless dozens of similar incidents, including a time when a driverless car blocked fire trucks from leaving the station for nearly ten minutes. The Biggest Issue that was not really addressed very thoroughly at the puc meeting was the interfering with Emergency Responders and said that doesnt matter. It doesnt matter whether someones in the car or not. If you have this vehicle thats blocking the road and an ambulance cant get through or a fire truck cant get through, that puts peoples lives in danger. The motion says there are currently just under 400 cruise cars in the city, but cruise plans to add more and that could mean thousands. To explains that the fear is this would only increase the interference with first responders. Public transit, construction and the general flow of traffic. Now, although cruise and waymo, they were approved last week, they could be giving rides now, having people pay for those driverless taxi rides, theyre not. You have to have a code because its invite only. But reportedly waymo is going to start taking customer cars on monday. Now, in the next hour, were going to hear from a professor from asu. Now there in phenix, waymo has been driving. Theyve had customers get in their cars. Those self driving cars for the last three years. And he says its worked great there. He thinks it will be safe here in San Francisco as well. So he will you will hear from him at 830. Live in San Francisco, Amanda Quintana, ktvu fox two news. Thank you, amanda. 833 now and San Jose Police officer remains hospitalized after she was shot last night responding to a domestic disturbance call. Assemblyman lowe says hes not surprised his older brother would think about the safety of others before himself. The assemblyman called him many times after yesterdays shooting, before they connected to tell you the truth, that all i just said was, i love you and im coming home. Stay awake for me. The suit alleges the sexual abuse has continued despite the conviction of the prisons former warden and charges against seven Correctional Officers. We know that prison staff have raped, assaulted and harassed dozens and dozens of incarcerated people and punished those who dare to speak out when they locked us up, they locked us up and basically threw away the key because we were in their control. But yet and still they treated us like trash. The bureau of prisons has not yet responded to our request for comment. Cal fire now says a fire burning in Santa Clara County is 40 contained. It started just after 5 00 last night, just off highway 101 in morgan hill near the coyote creek golf drive. Exit one lane of the freeway was shut down for more than an hour, but it has since reopened. 71 acres burned in that fire. The cause is still under investigation. Fire Officials Say lightning started dozens of fires in the far northern part of our state. More than 50 fires are burning in california right now, most of them on federal land. Lightning is a suspected cause of three fires burning in siskiyou county, as well as others in trinity. Shasta nevada del norte and mendocino counties. Cal fire says its preparing for peak wildfire season now we are really going into a period now where were at the mercy of the weather and that really is the heat, the wind and any potential lightning that comes through the fuels are the driest. We traditionally see the offshore wind events this time of year. Californias normal weather patterns has the wind and heat extending at least through september and possibly through to october. Arborists now say lahaina is famous. Banyan tree will likely survive, even though it was badly burned in the maui wildfires. The canopy of the 150 year old tree turned black after the fire roared through the town. But arborists say theyre optimistic because the tree is showing signs of life, such as flowing sap crews are now spraying the tree with six truckloads of water every day to help revive it. Well, rangers at Yosemite National park say they have seen evidence that a black bear climbed to the top of half dome on the parks facebook page. The rangers say since bears are excellent climbers, it probably did not need to use the 425ft of cable. That leads to the summit of half dome. They say the discovery of the bears presence on half moon is a good reminder that bears safety applies everywhere in yosemite. Good advice. Lets turn to Steve Paulson right now at 838 for a check on that forecast. Looking at the radar behind you, fog, clouds, maybe some thunderstorm forms, just the bare facts for you, alex, but im fog asked a lot of fog there with biggest fog bank of the week so far. Now again, its not making a huge push, but its much larger than we had yesterday. Unfortunately though, for those looking for a big cooldown, the air aloft is still really warm, although there is a little bit more of a delta breeze. Travis at this time yesterday was down to about 12 there, showing 24. Well see if that holds, but thats usually pretty good sign. Yet inland temps well inland will still be hot. The air aloft just continues to be too warm here. You get up mount veeder, 83 warm degrees of the northeast at ten yet berkeley labs 57 there in the fog so i mean once 888ft the other you get up around 2425 2600ft you can find some 70s and 80s. Mt. Diablo was 81. Mt. Tamalpais is at 78. That needs to break down before the inland towns really take a drop. A lot of thunderstorm activity, clouds or just general rain for the mountains. But hillary is the main topic of conversation. Of course it will be all the way into sunday night, monday already category one strong, category four looks likely. Its intense, rapid intensification feeding off warm ocean temps, 84, 85. It will continue to march northward, pass by then itll encounter the colder water temps here. But to see the cone of probability on the path by the National Hurricane center, i believe this is the first time its included los angeles might still have some tropical identity by the time it gets there, but youre dealing with water temps that are for a hurricane. These are cold. All right. 64, 67 to almost 70 to 71. Anything below 80. And thats cold water for a hurricane. But it sure looks like the trend is to take it. We may not get anything out of it unless theres a big change in the projection. Southern california, arizona, las vegas could have historic rainfall and some for the sierra, but theres just not a consensus. But the trend is to take it more east and south of us. Well see. A lot can change between now and monday. Big fog bank retreats, sunny, maybe some afternoon clouds. We saw that yesterday, especially Santa Clara County and Contra Costa County. Would not be surprised. I really wanted to bring temperatures down. Theres just a little bit hanging on to some warmer temps, but it does look a little cooler then more so tomorrow. Well see what happens sunday, monday at the cloud cover makes it or stays east of us. You guys okay. Thank you, steve. Well, as kids head off to college, it is common for parents to have feelings of loss, sadness and anxiety. Its coming up on 845. Now to research on water security around the world. Shows california, arizona and other western states are at the same high risk of water scarcity as arid countries such as saudi arabia. The study by researchers with the World Resources institute found that all seven states that rely on the Colorado River face extremely high water risk. Thats despite the wet winter we had, which led to the interior department this week announcing smarter, smaller reductions in water deliveries from the Colorado River next year. Its always good to hear that the health of the Colorado River has improved long term. This doesnt mean that were out of a drought and this doesnt mean that we need to relax or that we need to stop making every effort in arizona to use our water as wisely as possible. Even with the rise in water levels this year, lake powell and lake mead, the two largest reservoirs in the country, are only at 36 capacity. Now. The stocks opened higher as wall street looked to rebound from two straight losing sessions. Us jobless claims applications dropped. By 11,000 to 239,000. Thats down from 250,000. Its having a muted effect on the markets, though. So far, trading has been underway for about a couple of hours now. And so far, the dow is down slightly, about 26 points. Nasdaq down 58 points. The s p 500 also down. The chief economist for the National Association of realtors says Mortgage Rates could go up 8 in the near future. Rates are hovering around 7. 25 for a 30 year loan right now. Thats the highest rate since last november. Thats already started to hurt the us housing market. Even Home Builders who had been seeing Strong Demand say fewer potential buyers are shopping right now. Rising Interest Rates have sent the average mortgage payment up more than 1,000 a month in the past few years. New Research Shows the financial toll on workers who are heading back to the office. A chamber of commerce reports that two bay area cities have the most expensive commutes. Workers in San Francisco average 58. 5 minute round trips, costing 48. 66 each day. Fremont workers average 55 minute round trips totaling 46. 34 a day. Other bay area cities are sunnyvale ranked number eight. Oakland is 17. San jose 18, and hayward is 22. Well, next wednesdays county tourism board of directors will hear a presentation regarding a new Convention Center. Officials tell the press democrat goals include approving an Advisory Council and then finishing a Feasibility Study before next spring. They will also have to come up with a funding plan. Supporters envision a Convention Center that host business gatherings, while also serving as temporary housing during emergencies. But even if all goes well, this project could take five years to complete. There is some disagreement over how to best use un plaza in downtown San Francisco. Heart of the city Farmers Market has operated in that spot since 1981, sfgate reports that starting september 3rd, that Farmers Market will be moved one street over between larkin and hyde. But some longtime tenants say its not fair to ask them to relocate. San francisco rec and parks is beginning construction on a new recreation space in the plaza that would include a skating area chess and ping pong tables. But no space for a Farmers Market. People who live near the City Center Shopping mall in San Francisco say theyre hopeful that the addition of a whole foods store there will improve the neighborhood. Thats according to the chronicle, which says that vacant storefronts in the City Center Shopping mall on gary mason has increased blight in the area. The City Center Mall has been working since 2019 to get the site approved for a whole foods store. There have been numerous delays, but now whole foods could open there. In 2025, a San Francisco giants legend is returning to the bay area. Three time world series champion buster posey is moving back to california after he retired two years ago. Posey and his family moved to his home state, georgia posey joined the giants Ownership Group last summer. The 36 year old has attended multiple games at oracle park since retiring, and he told the athletic hes eager to watch the team play more often. And im sure everyone will. Welcome back. I was there when he announced his retirement and it was certainly a big deal. So its nice to have him back in the area. Him and the kids and his wife as well. Yeah. Well, Sal Castaneda, any giants games in your future . We know youre a big time fan. Yeah you know, i plan to go sometimes its just spontaneous, ali, but i love going over there. But, you know, these days, theres nothing like watching it in the living room. Sound familiar . Yeah, just kind of hanging out and watching games in the living room. Thats good. All right, lets talk about 80 westbound coming out to the macarthur maze. Looks pretty good and its the fog is lifted. You could see the bay bridge toll plaza is still crowded so if youre going it has not improved. It leads me to believe its going to be this way for at least another hour before we get improvements. San mateo bridge has improved. Heading out to the high rise and 880, all of a sudden we see some more slow traffic here near the coliseum at 849. Lets talk to steve about todays weather. Its cheaper to sell being at home. Yeah, well, i mean, with these hours, steve, you know, i cant exactly go out and stay out late. Not like we used to know. All right. Thank you, sam. We do have a pretty good fog bank there, although, i mean, weve seen bigger in the. But this week, this is probably going to take honors is the most ive seen. Should lead to some cooling. Theres a little bit more of an onshore breeze. I dont want to say win for traffic but 24 thats double what it was yesterday. At this time, itll still be some warm to hot temperatures inland. I mean, were already seeing some that are in the 70s, the air aloft, Higher Elevations are warm in the 80s here for many mount veeder, 84 warm degrees last i looked, Sonoma Mountain was 85 as really warm. Northeast at nine. So until that gets refreshed with cooler air such as the berkeley lab 58 with 96 humidity, its still going to be one more warm to hot day, well inland, although it does look cooler. There were a big differences in the forecast highs today, as much as 12 degrees for just certain areas. So you dont usually see that. So theres a fight between the models. Also a lot of tropical moisture will continue to work its way and maybe a little bit for us. Hillary is now hurricane category one is going to feed off of warm water and head north. Its a big system. Itll be probably a category four as we go to saturday and then start to lift north parallel to the baja area and probably end up somewhere in Southern California. A couple of the trends are to take it east of us, not even close, but others will wait and see for days to go. So a lot can happen. But the water temps around Southern California for a hurricane. These are cold, 64, 67, upper 60s, low 70s. Anything below 84 at about 80. And it starts to lose a lot of its oomph. Also, if it starts to move inland, itll lose that along with shear should take care of it. Its just one of those where its just too soon to say. The trend, though, is to take it a little bit east and south of us for now, but that could easily change here just depending on what happens over the next four days. Morning fog, a little bit of drizzle was in there. Probably done. Sunny could get a few afternoon clouds like we saw yesterday. As we saw yesterday from Santa Clara County contra costa solano that developed late in the afternoon, 60s, 70s and 80s 90s. Does look cooler friday and then nice into saturday. Well see if that cloud cover makes it late sunday monday. You too so much steve. Health officials, the public Skilled Nursing facility was facing closure last year and was decertified for noncompliance on several safety issues, including two nonfatal overdoses at that facility. That meant the hospital was pulled from medicaid and medicare programs. The states medicaid program, medical, accounts for 95 of the facilitys funding. The past 18 months have seen nothing short of a transformation of laguna honda into a world class or the world class Skilled Nursing facility, one that will continue to serve San Francisco for generations to come. Our goal has always been to demonstrate that we meet the highest standards and meet them every day. Hospital Officials Say they took a number of steps to improve operations to come back into compliance, including improvements with medication storage and hygiene control for the people who work at laguna honda. This is not just about about their jobs. This is about their patients. This is about the people that they help every single day. The people that depend on them for help, for support because they cant take care of themselves. The Skilled Nursing facility has operated in San Francisco for 157 years and houses roughly 500, mostly low income residents who are dealing with a range of chronic conditions, including Mental Illness and substance use. The next step for laguna honda will be getting its recertification request approved by the federal medical care program. So calling them derogatory is really just embarrassment. Its unclear how the mascot change will affect the upcoming football season and uniforms. 858 now chp has a new plan to crack down on retail thefts. Governor newsom recently gave more money to the agency to build Retail Theft Task forces across the state this past weekend. A large scale smash and grab took place inside of a mall in los angeles. Happening today, Vector Control officials in the south bay plan another round of mosquito spraying. This is after they discovered some of those insects were carrying the west nile virus.
