All righty. Looking at the temperatures out there, you can see weve got numbers that are generally cool, lower than yesterday, but hekate the communities were up there around 40, 50. And thatll do it when you get 40 to 50 humidity, youre dealing with temperatures that are feel a lot more aggressive, a lot warmer. So these are the highs from today. And you can see the temperatures, again, a little cooler highs tomorrow are going to be about the same. So theres the fog and low clouds pushing in through the gate. As flames spread across the island last week, there were no warning signs and many residents say they were on their own to choose whether or not to stay or to run. As ktvu brooks jarocz reports, there are plenty of questions about the islands Warning Systems. Damage, destru and death. Despite the highly likely probability of a wildfire in lahaina, this was unexpected. If you just judged what could happen by whats happened in the last year or two, the last five years, you may be drastically under estimating your risk. But maui countys own reports show the risks were there, suggesting hawaiis and mauis fire problem is more extreme than on the us mainland. Averaging four fires a year and increasing in frequency and severity with drought and dry vegetation having high, prolonged wind events at the same time sort of exacerbates the whole thing because that dries the fuels out further. It if spreads the flames warnings about growing grasses were there, but even the countys own documents show a Strategic Plan fails to address Fire Prevention as a mission or goal. A significant oversight. Just last week, a failure to use hawaiis highly touted Warning System siren never sounded. And even with some text alerts about the impeding danger, survivors say they never received them with telecommunication towers down, its strikingly similar to what happened amid recent California Wildfires and San Francisco has a siren alert system that has been offline for four years, since funding isnt yet available to fix it, relying on residents to opt into mobile alerts instead. But even hawaii has had its mishaps as a false Missile Warning was sent in 2018, saying it was not a drill. Were going to have to rethink our whole approach to this to move away from sort of the mass media era of warning and towards something that can be a little more precise and a little more specific. Public warning experts say theres going to be a shift to a commercial and Community Based approach to alerts, catering to neighborhoods in a more immediate way. Mauis 2020 mitigation plan, says lahaina and west maui, has the highest rate of nonenglish speakers in the county and the second highest rate of households without a car. All of that may have added to the chaos and confusion as flames furiously claimed land and lives. Brooks, ktvu fox two news. New at six. Another Mountain Lion sighting, this time in menlo park. A person reported seeing the big cat at about 730 this morning near sand hill road. Jesse, gary spoke to wildlife experts about why there have been so many Mountain Lions spotted in urban areas. Menlo park Police Detectives say they received a call around 730 monday morning. One person reports seeing a Mountain Lion walking along a back fence at the sharon hills golf and country club sent officers out to check the area. Officers were not able to see any Mountain Lion or make any kind of contact with any animal that matched that description. And out of an abundance of caution, we made a message out to the Community Officials with the bay area puma project say so far this year there have been 89 Mountain Lion sightings in the bay area. 66 of those are in San Mateo County. Its the county with the most sightings. Experts say a search for habitat and food is likely the driving force prompting the animals to move near populated areas. Mountain lion habitat is often splintered by urbanization. Right. So its possible that this Mountain Lions habitat is just as dissected by 280, right. Or dissected by the golf course. And its possible the Mountain Lion was simply moving from one patch of suitable habitat to another patch of suitable habitat. The one call did not produce leads and employees doing renovation work at the sprawling club say they never saw a Mountain Lion. Officials say theres no danger to people at a nearby strip Shopping Mall or in downtown menlo park. Hopefully if we if we take appropriate precautions, the Mountain Lion will go back to its habitat, pass on through and keep living a life in the wild. People that do see that animal stay away. Obviously dont put yourself in a dangerous situation and just notify the Police Department. You can report Mountain Lion sightings directly to the California Department of fish and wildlife. We are following developing news out of the state of georgia about an expected fourth indictment against former President Donald Trump. The New York Times reports a Fulton County grand jury has handed up an indictment that indictment remains sealed at this hour. It is not yet clear whether or not former President Donald Trump has been indicted in this case. Several witnesses testified today over the former president s alleged efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state court, officials posted a list of criminal charges, including state racketeer in counts, conspiracy to commit false statements and solicitation of violation of oath by a Public Officer. That list has since been deleted and a spokesperson for the da said it was, quote, inactive. Fox Caroline Shively has more on the implications from washington. A grand jury met behind closed doors here at the Fulton County, georgia, courthouse monday, weighing whether to hand up former president trumps fourth criminal indictment in as many months. Already, the investigation has lasted for more than two years, but this grand jury offers a fresh set of eyes featuring only a few of the witnesses who have already testified. Among them, former state senator jen jordan. Asked about the grand jury today. Ready to do their dirty so ready to serve the investigation is focused on efforts by trump and his allies to flip the outcome of the 2020 election. If some of his alleged coconspirators are under the rico act, the acts of one are deemed to be the acts of all. One of the centerpieces for prosecutors. A recorded phone call where trump told georgia secretary of state brad raffensperger, i just want to find. 11,780 votes. That was the number of votes needed to overturn president bidens win in georgia. These events come just weeks after the former president appeared in washington, dc to face charges related to efforts to overturn the election. He has also been indicted in florida, accused of illegally retaining classified documents. And in new york related to hush money paid to an adult film actress. This case could be different than the federal trials because georgia often allows cameras in the courtroom. And in the case of a state conviction in georgia or new york, there is no chance of a president pardon. In washington, Caroline Shively, fox news. Of all the charges, the former president faces a potential indictment in georgia could be particularly challenging for trumps legal team. Earlier on the floor, we spoke to law professor Laurie Levenson on what sets this one apart. On the coconspirators. Thats the new element because we can very well expect that there will be people beyond trump who are going to be indicted here. And then that raises interesting question. Are they going to be on the government side . Are they going to turn against him . And if they do, the defense people, all the trump people will go after them. So it expands the nature of the cases. Levenson says that while the georgia case could be difficult to fight for trump, she says the classified documents case in florida is likely the most serious because of accusations of obstruction of justice. The white house is telling universities that they should pursue diversity despite a recent ruling on affirmative action. The guidance includes recruiting in minority areas and considering application essays that discuss the impact of their racial background on students lives. Days after getting expansion approval around San Francisco, robo taxis are again drawing attention this time for causing a traffic mess. Ktvu tom vacar has more on why cruz is blaming outside lands for the traffic mess today. Robo taxis are loose on the streets of San Francisco. On friday, the very day after the California PublicUtilities Commission approved cruz and waymo for 24 over seven operations, 6 to 10 cruise cars stopped dead in San Franciscos north beach neighborhood and tying up traffic now, cruz claims that socalled connectivity issues caused by heavy cell service at the outside lanes festival in Golden Gate Park was the issue. Five miles away. Its profoundly frightening. And they may well create technologic solutions. But as our fire chief has said, this is not ready for prime time. Carnegie mellon professor and engineer and robocar expert Philip Koopman says as this these vehicles need continuous connectivity back to a central office. And what the Companies Say is that when they lose the connectivity, the cars stop to ensure safety. Its definitely a new technology and i know that theyre been doing a lot of work and they have progressed a lot. But if they are having issues and theyre not ready, i think they have to test a lot of things before putting this out to the public because it does deem like their safety and also just like Public Safety in general. Koopman also says the cpuc didnt even address the often repeated interference with emergency responders. You have this vehicle thats blocking the road and an ambulance cant get through or a fire truck cant get through. And that puts peoples lives in danger whether theyre in the car or not. And california puc basically gave the companies a pass on that. And get this. Neither cruz nor waymo have any responsibility to turn over crucial information to the California PublicUtilities Commission, which has the Legal Authority and duty to have oversight over them, not in the interest of those companies, but in the public interest. I think thats a terrible idea. One of the things we know is that the way you get safety is by transparency and accountability. And theres very little transparency from these companies on things that really matter to the safety of the public. Autonomous vehicle expert mary cummings, a professor of engineering at george mason university, told me this connectivity issue is only going to get worse. Tom vacar ktvu fox two news. A small city in florida is leading the way in a 10 million settlement with a major manufacturer over forever chemicals in Drinking Water. It is a problem across the country and California Attorney general rob bonta is one of 22 ags opposed to the deal, saying it lets the manufacturer off too easily. Foxs Casey Steagall reports. In 2016, the epa told employees of the city of stuart, florida, that their water supply had unacceptable high levels of pfas also called forever chemicals, sparking a costly cleanup process. Just the shock of knowing that you were known for your best tasting Drinking Water for a decade or two prior to this happening, the epa says pfas exposure may lead to a number of health problems, including an increase in the risk of some cancers this year. The agency proposing to lower the acceptable threshold of some types to just four parts per trillion. There are a lot of water providers there that have that problem and dont have the Financial Capabilities of funding a cleanup like that. The city of stuart then became the representative case for over 100 other communities, claiming that the potentially harmful compounds made by the Company Three m contaminated water supplies, mainly through firefighting foam, a pending settlement worth at least 10 million was reached in june to go toward remedial cost. A3m spokesperson saying it will, quote benefit you as based public Water Systems nationwide. In this case, the evidence was pretty overwhelming that by no later than 1983 and knew this chemicals were toxic. More than 20 attorneys general are pushing a federal court to reject that settlement. Thats the latest from dallas. Casey stegall, fox news. We are looking at the temperatures from today a little bit cooler, still warm, but a little bit cooler than yesterday , but not feeling cooler because of the humidity, the moisture, the subtropical moisture pushing inland. So that 98 in livermore was bolstered by 45 humidity, which is significant when youre in the inland bay valleys, not its not low like in the desert , but in the inland bay valleys. Typically you get humidities are down in the 1820 percentile. But youre double that in some cases. So humidity really making it feel sticky out there. And you can see some of the well, certainly see the low clouds and fog, humidity that is humidity of sorts. And the humidity, the actual subtropical moisture up high. And thats whats pushing to the north of us and bringing us these thunderstorms. You can almost see them ringing the north part of the state right now and moving east to west and moving basically out of our area. We did have this one little cell down here that was tracking to the north. You can see it there. And then it falls apart. It was tracking all the way up in the livermore valley. And in the last hour, it has fallen apart right there. Boom. So its gone. So a lot of that moisture is very unstable. It was just a plug of moisture. It wasnt a big, giant area of it, but it was enough that we saw thunderstorms kind of working from soledad. All the way up. And then the lake tahoe area, all those are lightning strikes within the last hour or actually, those are the current within the last 15 minutes. And there continuing to go as the sun sets, itll become less aggressive in terms of thunderstorm activity. But still, as you see up north of ukiah, youve got some thunderstorms popping in there. When just opened up and then all that moisture working its way offshore. So you could see if that was a relatively narrow band of general plume. But you could see if you get and weve seen it, you get a big plume like a dying Tropical Storm and you get a huge amount of huge, huge size air mass like that. You really see a lot of thunderstorms in our area. And weve seen that before with multiple fire outbreaks. But thats not the case today. Temperatures cooler than yesterday, but still very warm humidity. And then the fog and low clouds stays at the coast tomorrow. Theres some more humidity. It will be humid tomorrow, but should not be as aggressively human as it was today. And highs tomorrow will be just like today, 100 and fairfield, 99 in antioch, thats tomorrow, 90 in santa rosa. And again, humidities not that low. So enough that its going to feel a little muggy again. Shouldnt be as muggy as today, but its still going to be noticeable.
