Time now. 708 oakland held its final Public Meeting for people to say what they would like to see from the citys next police chief. In the meantime, the volunteer who is running the Search Committee says her group has been asking the public for guidelines in selecting a new chief. What weve heard more than anything else is they want whoever is chief of police to reside in the city of oakland so that requirement is going to go on the job description. Whats happening here . People we talked with say theyre glad the city is asking for input, but theyre disappointed. More city leaders were not at the meeting to hear directly from them. I felt compelled to come to this meeting because oakland needs change and i no longer feel safe in my own city. What would you say to the mayor right now if she was here . Wake up. This is this is all on you. Its time for you to make a change. Its time for you to come and get into the streets with the people. That woman we heard from says she was also surprised no one from the Police Department was at that meeting. All right. Time now is 709. Lets talk about our weather. Yesterday at this time , rosemary, it was still gray behind us today, the sun peeking out just a little bit earlier. Yes. And my drive in, i could see a different view, obviously , weve got a little bit more sunshine, the marine layer compressed here. We can see Salesforce Tower. So that just goes to show again, it has shrunk. Its about 1500 feet. So it is along the coast. It is in some of our valley locations. Weve got some patchy dense fog out there as well. And then weve got sunshine this morning in areas where we didnt have it yesterday. Right now, the visibility is good in most spots. Santa rosa reporting three miles. Visibility a little bit of cloud cover and fog there at the airport. Half moon bay reporting zero visibility. So a lot of fog along the coastline, even patchy drizzle and the mist out there this morning. Meanwhile, the onshore breeze for fairfield is 14mph. We havent lost that onshore breeze completely. Its just really weak. And so along the coastline and inside the bay, definitely benefiting it from it a little bit more than our inland cities, inland areas are going to be even hotter today. Some areas reaching into the upper 90s right now, starting out similar to yesterday, 56 in San Francisco, 66 in walnut creek, 69 to start your morning in brentwood. And james, we are looking above the low clouds out there this morning. We do have sunshine to start the day. In addition, the low clouds, the patchy fog and drizzle, especially along the coastline. This morning, were seeing mid level cloud cover move in and around this low. So the low remains parked over Southern California. The counterclockwise motion around it bringing in some of that monsoonal moisture, bringing the risk of thunderstorms to the sierra. And for us, we are likely to see some clouds come our way. And then as we get into five, six, 7 00, notice that batch of clouds that come our way and it looks like itll be with us as we head into a sunset. So turning mostly cloudy into the afternoon could squeeze out a sprinkle. But really, its just going to be that cloud cover. And with that added humidity in the air, it could feel a muggy out there for today. 59 degrees right now in oakland, 59 in napa. Already 69 in brentwood. And a lot of people saying, hey, thats thats 6. 5 miles away. How did Cell Phone Service impact crews cars here near vallejo and grant . Take a look. This is the area where those ten cars came to a stall friday night. Were talking about a tiny, tiny stretch of road. So any type of traffic jam definitely going to impact the neighborhood. Heres what we know about friday nights robotaxi jam here in north beach. This is just some of the video making the rounds on social media. At least ten crews is, like you mentioned, came to a halt on grant avenue in north beach. The stalled vehicles caused a traffic backup on the tiny street, leaving many to question the decision by state regulators to approve the expanded use of robotaxis in the city. That vote of 3 to 1 came on thursday when the California PublicUtility Commission voted to extend permits for Companies Like waymo and cruise to operate their robo taxis 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and to collect fares. The companies are not limited to a number of excuse me, the companies are not limited to a certain number of fleet vehicles. So unclear how many theyll have roaming the streets. And people we spoke to say fridays traffic jam proves that the technology is not yet ready for San Francisco streets. They havent addressed the issues that the fire chief and the Fire Department and the police have raised. Its i think they just cpuc was too quick. They they i dont think they were really ready to be approved. And then the incident last night shows theres some other problems. But the safety issues are real and crews did release a statement saying that a large festival post wireless bandwidth constraints causing delayed connectivity to our vehicles. We are actively investigating and working on solutions to prevent this from happening again. We apologize to those who are impacted. Unclear if there were any riders in those crews vehicles. But again , you can imagine when ten robo taxis come to a halt, people, they whip out their cell phones and Start Recording again. People saying this once again shows that the technology is not quite ready. But you heard from crews, they said they are working to make sure this doesnt happen again. Now, what we did hear from the California PublicUtilities Commission on thursday was that if continued incidents of the stalled vehicles happened, they would look into possibly revoking some of the permits or at least limiting the number of those vehicles on the streets. Its unclear how fridays traffic jam will impact crews. Were live this morning. Dave devlin, ktvu fox two news, dave etling, thank you. And we continue to follow the latest developments in the wildfire disaster on the Hawaiian Island of maui. The official death toll now climbing to 93 overnight and that number is expected to rise in the coming days. The wildfires have destroyed or badly damaged at least 2200 homes and businesses and other buildings. Hawaiis governor is reminding tourists to stay away from maui, at least for the next couple of weeks. We have to go with caution. There are heavy metals there. There are toxic states where the houses have come down and the businesses have come down. The recommendations are to avoid those structures because they could still fall on people. And weve lost too much life already. Death toll in maui has now passed that of the camp fire in the Northern California town of paradise. That was five years ago. The disaster in maui is now the deadliest wildfire in the us in more than 100 years. We are continuing our coverage of the wildfires that are tearing through maui. Many of the residents and visitors on maui were evacuated to oahu. And the mayor of oahu says the requirement for a minimum 30 day rental period is not going to be enforced for the remainder of august. And officials are hoping that decision will help increase housing availability for those who have been displaced by those fires. Meanwhile, the governor is planning to use hotels in maui to house evacuees and even asking people with extra rooms to help out across the island. Many locals are expressing anger at how maui handled this disaster. Having a warning or Something Like that would have been nice for the whole lahaina branch. You know, the whole lahaina community. It would have been nice to have a warning. I woke up at 3 00 and i still didnt hear any sirens. And im pretty off about that. I feel that our county and state completely failed the line of Community Fail on an epic level for any families that were at home and had no idea that this was happening. There was no time to escape. That was gina silva reporting. And if you would like to help survivors, weve posted a link with ways you can get involved. Thats on our homepage at ktvu. Com. Ooh, not my place to be giving you a look here over the bay where we do have some blue sky in addition to some fog out there this morning, we will have mostly sunny skies for the first half of the day, at least away from the coastline. And then things start to turn cloudy for the second half of the afternoon. And it has to do with the low that remains parked off the Southern California coastline and the circulation around it dragging in that monsoonal moisture into california. The sierra areas like lake tahoe, yosemite, even the risk of thunderstorms rolling into today. Its a 20 to 25 chance, but its there. And then you notice how the flow just continues to push this way towards the bay area. So we get what they call the debris from the thunderstorms in the sierra. Heres a look at the futurecast. By about 4 00 in the afternoon , some of that moisture up over the sierra, the cloud cover over us. So in addition, the low clouds and the fog along the coastline this morning and just inside the bay by the second part of the day, we do expect the mid and high level clouds and that added moisture could definitely make it feel muggy for some 61 degrees to start your morning in napa. Weve got 59 in oakland, mid 60s in san jose, low 70s in brentwood. If youre going to the giants game, San Francisco is going to be gorgeous in your area today. We are going to warm things up just slightly right now. Tuesday, it looks to be the hottest day when we actually peak above 100 degrees for some of our hotter spots, 80 around the bay. So warm weather continuing around the bay. Nice weather at the coast upper 60s to about 70 degrees. Temperature has come down just slightly on wednesday. But amazon is telling the San FranciscoBusiness Times that the retail giant has talked to residents elected leaders and hosted Community Forums on how to best move forward with the project while addressing public concerns ranging from traffic to environmental. This facility would also feature retail shops, electric car charging stations and some business offices. Amazon is making some cuts to head off some problems in profitability and in some legal challenges as well. A wall street journal report says the ecommerce giant is cutting some inhouse brands to shore up profits and ward off any potential antitrust pursuit. The report says amazon will cut 27 of its 30 clothing brands and phase out some private furniture brands. The federal trade commission has also been preparing antitrust action against amazon, as lawmakers say amazon selling its own brands, conflicts with selling other brands. Relief efforts are continuing to pour into maui, all in response to the devastation left behind by those massive wildfires in what is now the deadliest wildfire in us history. Were going to talk about the help coming from the bay area as residents in maui struggle to get back to their homes. Plus we were told theyre working on it, but i think mass starts at the top and the city of oakland is still looking for a new police chief. Were going have details on the Public Meeting where many residents voiced their concerns over chief armstrongs firing. Plus as festival goers were leaving outside lands, a traffic jam of stalled robo taxis was created miles away. The connection between those two events and the frustrations from residents, why some say the city just isnt ready for Driverless Cars. From ktvu fox two news, this is mornings on two well back to mornings on two. That is a gorgeous look over the San Francisco bay. This morning as weve got a little mix of sun and clouds but it is shaping up to be a hot one, not just warm. I think were we have moved into hot territory on this sunday. Welcome to mornings. On to it is sunday, august 13th. Im Claudine Wong and im james torres. Lets bring in rosemary oroczo here because its going to be tshirt weather soon. Yes, weve got some nice weather along the coast inside the bay. Our inland cities. Its going to be hot. Its going to be really hot. Were talking about temperatures in the upper 90s for you into the afternoon, partly cloudy, turning mostly cloudy for the second half of the day, which could make it feel a bit humid out there. Meanwhile, this morning, were starting out with the low clouds and fog along the coastline. Patchy drizzle, a better look at the temperatures right now. What you can expect for the afternoon and the week ahead coming up. Rosemary, thank you. Well theres a lot of talk about the viability of Driverless Cars in San Francisco after the release of video showing several cruise cars causing a traffic jam in north beach during a big Music Festival. Ktvu is dave devlin, now live in San Francisco and says cruise blames the problem on some connectivity issues. Good morning to you, dave. Good morning, james. And you know, in an age of cell phones, this really doesnt look good for robo taxis. A light cruise, because a lot of people, once they see those vehicles stalled, they quickly pick up their cell phones and they start filming. And thats exactly what they did right here along grant avenue in vallejo. Thats when about ten of these cruise taxis simply came to a stop friday night. And like you mentioned, cruise saying this all had to do with connectivity issues. Heres what we know about fridays robotaxi traffic jam in north beach. This is the video that is making rounds on social media. A lot of people commenting. We know at least ten cruise robo taxis came to a halt on grant avenue in the north beach neighborhood. The stalled vehicles caused a traffic jam and backup on the tiny street. We dont know if there were any passengers in those vehicles, but that traffic jam leaving a lot of people to question the decision by state regulators who recently approved expanded use of robo taxis in the city. They voted on thursday with a 3 to 1 vote that allows Companies Like waymo and cruise to operate 24 hours, seven days a week. Theres also no cap on the number of vehicles allowed on the street. People we spoke to say fridays traffic jam proves the technology isnt sophisticated enough to be rolled out. Im not so im not sold on them. Why is that . Ive heard too many problems. Are you surprised with the major traffic jam talking about ten of them just stalled because of cell Service Issues . I am surprised about that. And what is it that you see in your own day to day life when it comes to those robotaxi . Well, you know, i walk my dog early in the morning and i see him running up and down the street. You know, i look in there to make sure no ones in there. If theres someone driving the car and im extra careful when theres no one in the car driving, what is the concern . Safety safety. I dont want to get run over. I dont want my dog to get run over. Now, in relation to those ten cruise robotaxi cars stalling, cruise released a statement saying a large festival post wireless bandwidth constraints causing delayed connectivity to our vehicles. We are actively investigating and working on solutions to prevent this from happening again. We apologize to those who were impacted. And now theres a lot of talk on social media about cruises response because the festival that the company is referencing is outside lans Music Festival. A lot of people questioning how the connectivity from cell phones impacted the cruise cars, especially when that Music Festival is about 6. 5 miles away. Theyre also wondering why the company didnt plan for this , knowing that this Music Festival has gone on for a number of years now. We did hear from the California PublicUtilities Commission on thursday that said if these type of stalls continue to happen, these Automated Vehicle companies could face a some pushback that could mean some revocation of permits. Still unclear how fridays traffic jam will impact cruise. Live in San Francisco this morning, dave detailing ktvu fox two news. Thank you, dave. Well, we are following new developments in the wildfire disaster on the Hawaiian Island of maui. The official death toll has climbed to 93. That happened overnight and that number is expected to continue to rise in the coming days. The wildfires that broke out on tuesday have destroyed or badly damaged at least 22 homes. 2200 homes, businesses and other buildings. Hawaiis governor is praising the federal government for its response to what is now the deadliest u. S wildfire in more than 100 years. It is rare. It is rare that we see this level of government leadership all come together. Youve heard that weve been in contact at the highest level, and the president has been generous with us beyond measure. The death toll in maui has now surpassed that of the camp fire in the Northern California of paradise town of paradise five years ago. Thats where 85 people were killed back in november of 2018. And firefighters in maui are still putting out the hotspots for a wildfire that broke out friday night. This was just north of lahaina, which is the town hit hardest by this firestorm. It burned for several hours in kaanapali, where many People Living in lahaina had gone to escape from those fast moving flames. Find shelter and get gas for their cars. No homes were damaged in the fire and kaanapali crews now have it fully contained and people organizing relief efforts for wildfire victims have already raised millions of dollars. And some of that money is coming from the bay area. Ktvu zac sos has been speaking with some of the people organizing those fundraisers. We are doing our best to try to give relief, send energy, send good love to our friends in maui in the wake of this weeks devastating wildfire in lahaina. Rodney fong, who heads up the San Francisco chamber of commerce, wasting little time and launching a Fundraising Campaign with his counterparts in the San Francisco tourism industry. We really appreciate any donations. Large and small right now. We know that maui really needs it. Its really devastating what were seeing. The images are really hard to look at. We know so many people who are missing people right now or their houses are are now just ashes today, the fund raising 17 million. That money being put to Immediate Use, right now. Its been for things like critical supplies, food, diapers, shelter, clothing, showers, first aid, animal care, Grief Support and even boat transportation by some local boat owners who are taking supplies from one side of the island and bringing them into lahaina for residents. Bay area born metallica among those making a large donation to maui strong, sending 200,000. A number of other nonprofit thats also aiding in the efft on the ground. Some staff based on the island victims themselves, homes lost, Salvation Army facilities burned to the ground. Weve lost our administrative building, our church, Thrift Stores and even the Salvation Army officers quarters back in the bay area, large and small fundraising events also popping up a comedy event at faction brewing organized by alameda comedy works fund raising for the family of one of its performers and others in maui who lost everything for a lot of eyes to be on, not just that community, but also specifically on my family is i cant even put it into words. Was really grateful. Zac sos ktvu fox two news and weve been mentioning several relief efforts are underway to help mauis wildfire victims to learn more about some of those you can scan the qr code thats on your screen right now. Well tough terrain did make it difficult for firefighters to put out a wildfire in livermore. I want to show you video of a vegetation fire that broke out last night. This is on Collier Canyon road. We are told it burned about 15 to 20 acres and the flames did spread due to brush in that area. You can also see from this video that the fire was on a slope. So crews did have a tough time getting access. Agencies that responded included the Alameda CountyFire Department and cal fire. At this point, we do not have word yet on a cause. We do have calls into the Fire Department this morning to try to get the latest status on the situation in livermore. Oakland held its final Public Meeting for people to say what they would like to see from the citys next police chief. Mayor shengtao fired former chief Lauren Armstrong more than six months ago. City hall insiders say no one has been hired because of disagreements within city hall. In the meantime, the volunteer who was running the Search Committee says her group has been asking the public for guidelines in selecting the next chief. Well, weve heard more than anything else is they want whoever is chief of police to resign in the city of oakland. So that requirement is going to go on the job description. Whats happening here . People we talked with say theyre glad the city is asking for input, but theyre disappointed more city leaders were not at the meeting to hear from them directly. I felt compelled to come to this meeting because oakland needs change and i no longer feel safe in my own city. What would you say to the mayor right now . She was here. Wake up. This is this is all on you. Its time for you to make a change. Its time for you to come and get into the streets with the people. That woman says she was also surprised that no one from the Police Department was there at the meeting. All right. Time now is 810 and it is time to talk about the weather. The oakland estuary at this hour has some sunshine shining behind it, but you still have a little marine layer out there. The Golden Gate Bridge. Rosemary, we saw this yesterday around this time. Yeah. I was going to ask you guys identify that object there. The top of the Golden Gate Bridge tower are folks in a tlc we call it this morning, lining up some beautiful camps for us. You turn it one direction. We are just swallowed in fog and then another direction. Weve got sunshine and then along the coastline, its so thick, weve got zero visibility reported at Half Moon Bay. Santa rosa has improved. Started out with a little bit of fog this morning. Now ten miles ahead for you. Everybody else looking good, at least when it comes to the patchy dense fog. But were still seeing it right along the coastline in addition to the very thick fog patchy drizzle and mist, a possibility now rolling along highway one. There and close to the coast. The onshore breeze through fairfield remains there very, very light, just very similar to yesterday with only 13mph reported in fairfield at this time. Temperatures ranging from a mid 50s at Half Moon Bay already low, 70s for our inland cities. So a very summerlike pattern setting up for the afternoon and temperatures today expected to warm over yesterdays highs by at least a few degrees. Santa rosa, youre going to 90 for the afternoon, 79 in oakland, 96 in concord, its going to be baking for you there. 89 expected for san jose. Antioch going to 97 and livermore going to 96 into the second part of the day. We are going to notice an increase in cloud cover coming from the east and that could make it feel even a bit more humid, a better look at that. Plus what we can expect in the days ahead. Coming up in the extended forecast. James, thank you, Rosemary Allen stanford has just hired the father of a famous Football Player to try to protect their athletic programs. Well, that was the scene at sonoma boulevard and lemon street and vallejo early this morning. Fireworks were going off. At the same time, a large crowd had gathered to watch drivers spinning donuts and doing other dangerous stunts. At one point, a man tumbled off a speeding car during the chaotic scene. It was a similar scene in the Oakland Hills earlier this morning. A big crowd gathered on mountain boulevard near redwood road to watch this sideshow. Several hours ago, the speeding cars came dangerously close to many of spectators, but its still not clear if anyone was hurt. One car erupted in flames during anotheright sideshow. That was in oakland, this one at seventh in grand avenue, right near the port of oakland. The burning car did not stop the sideshow. It still kept going. Many spectators pulled out their cell phones, took pictures of the car going up in flames. No word now of any arrests in any of those three sideshows. Well this is going to be a busy week for state lawmakers. They have less than five weeks to decide on the fate of 920 proposed new laws. Those include everything from a formal warning to drug dealers that they could face murder charges if they sell fentanyl to someone. And that person dies of an overdose. Also, parents, groups who are wanting to ban books in schools that are already approved by their districts. A university of the pacific law professor who tracks new laws says these are big issues that are likely to require hours of intense debate. A lot of these big issues require extensive negotiations and sometimes elected officials are driven to make compromises and come to an agreement because of looming deadlines. The state legislature has until september 14th to pass or reject those proposals. Those that pass will go to governor newsom, and he will have until midoctober to sign them. Hes already warned that with the states 30 billion budget deficit, hes prepared to veto most, if not all, new spending proposals that are sent him. Now, among the topics being debated, state lawmakers are planning to introduce a bill that would provide Unemployment Benefits to striking workers. Political reporter this comes as thousands of hollywood writers and actors are on strike. The California Labor federation supports that move. A previous version of the bill from 2019 received state strong opposition from business groups, including the California Chamber of commerce. Heres a view of, well, just the top of the Golden Gate Bridge. Weve got the Marin Headlands there. Weve got fog entering the bay and into our coastal valleys this morning. But the marine layer has shrunk. Its about 1500 feet. And with that, its not going too far inland. In addition to the fog and the drizzle out there, this morning along the coastline, we do expect a batch of midlevel clouds to come our way. Late in the day via the Desert Southwest. And that monsoonal moisture is going to ride up over the sierra trigger off a few thunderstorms and then head our way. Were not looking at thunderstorm storms. May squeeze out a sprinkle. It doesnt really look like much, but it could feel a bit muggy out there for the afternoon. Heres a look at the futurecast, 4 00. Notice its going off over areas of the sierra. It looks like south of lake tahoe, maybe over towards the angels camp. And arnold and stretching over towards yosemite. The San Jose City council will meet tuesday to consider a plan to have the city create its own utility company. The proposal comes in response to growing concerns over the pga and its reliability in providing electricity to the homes and businesses in the bay areas largest city. Plus, colin stanford, athletics facing a very shaky future. We talk live with the bay area, play by play man and get his take on the two schools and the collapsing pac 12 conference from ktvu fox two news. This is mornings on two. Welcome back. Looking into what i think is supposed to be entering the Golden Gate Bridge. Not much more to it than that. Its just fog bank fog, august fog. Thats what thats what we call it nowadays. And gosh, its so hard to, like, drive through that. I dont know if you guys have done it off, but i hate doing that. There is the tiniest little tip in top of the Golden Gate Bridge spans there. I think it looks kind of like batman. You see the wings . You see it, right . Its the bat signal. Welcome to mornings on two. Im james torres. And im Claudine Wong. Yes, this is one of those mornings, i think, where people are depending on where they wake up, theyre like, what are you talking about . If its sunny where they are, they dont know what youre talking about. A fog is so but if they are in marin county or San Francisco, rosemary, they are saying sun, what do you mean exactly . Yeah. And i like how they gave us two different perspectives of the exact same area, right . The low point, the high point. I like the perspective from up above the birds eye view. We do have blue sky out there. A little tough to see along the coastline this morning. In addition to the fog, we have patchy drizzle. Meanwhile, into the afternoon, well go with partly cloudy skies away from the coastline until we have some midlevel moisture arrive for the second part of the day. So better details on that, plus the heat up that continues into your bay area sunday coming up in. Looki, rosemary, thank you. Were following the latest developments in the wildfires. Aster on the Hawaiian Island of maui. The official death toll now climbing to 93 overnight and that number expected to continue to rise in the coming days. The wildfires have destroyed or at least badly damaged at least 2200 homes, businesses and other buildings. Hawaiis governor is reminding tourists to stay away from maui for now and for at least the next several weeks. We have to go with caution. There are heavy metals there. There are toxic states where the houses have come down and the businesses have come down. The recommendations are to avoid those structures because they could still fall on people. And weve lost too much life already. The death toll in maui has now surpassed that of the camp fire in Northern California, the town of paradise that happened five years ago. The disaster in maui is the deadliest wildfire in the us and more than 100 years. Meanwhile, the governor plans to use hotels in maui to house evacuees and is even asking people with extra rooms to help out across the island, donation drives are ramping up, working to get supplies to people in need. We need donations. We need we need people shipping things out here. We need we need families fed. We need air. Yeah. We need so much help. Some of the most needed items include food, baby formula and diapers. It is an all hands on deck effort to get help since they are so far from the mainland. Alaska airlines is flying in pallets of supplies and the red cross is also on the ground helping out as that island faces a long road to recovery. There are huge traffic jams on the roadways leading into the fire ravaged town of lahaina. Both tourists and locals are dealing with roadblocks and detours in the immediate aftermath of this disaster. One couple from virginia is desperately trying to drive back home to their vacation home. Theyve learned their rented condo survived the fire, but authorities wont let them retrieve their belongings. They have no luck. Actual travel documents are there. My wifes credit cards. Theyre our passports and green card. Are there many people in the lahaina area are heading to local Community Centers seeking professional help following their horrifying ordeal . Those who are coming here are going through trauma and experiences that that is unimaginable and thats why its so important to have the center up and running those same Community Centers are helping people connect with missing loved ones more Bay Area School districts will start classes this week. We want to show you a partial list. You got vallejo city unified beginning tomorrow, tuesday, one of the largest School Districts in the bay area opens the west contra costa unified. That covers cities, including el cerrito and richmond. Youve got san mateo foster city also starting on tuesday, enrollment there, about 10,500 students. San Francisco Show starts on wednesday with about 49,000 students. It is the single Largest School district in the bay area, napa valley. Also wednesday, some schools in Sonoma County will start wednesday or thursday. Thats also when hayward and Cupertino Union start. So, you know, thats just a partial list gives you an idea of the week ahead. Well, theres a new study that shows covid vaccines and booster shots given to pregnant women help protect both the mother and their babies. The National Institutes of health study tracked the antibody levels of women who were pregnant, as well as the antibody levels in their cord blood. After giving birth. The women who received vaccines as well as their cord blood, showed antibodies for several covid variants, including delta and omicron. That shows the antibodies offered protection to newborns. Researchers say that it is a strong recomm. They sayy time a woman is pregnant, the vaccines are safe, but they are still trying to determine when is the best time for maximum protection. Time now, 835. A new twist in the attempt to save the pac 12 conference. Several Media Outlets now reporting that the conference has hired sports executive and administrator oliver luck as a consultant. Hes the father of former stanford quarterback andrew luck. Oliver luck is said to be well connected and respected within the athletic and Broadcasting Industries and will now try to work with the schools on whether they should merge with another conference or expand other schools from other conferences to join a new pac 12. Well, the california golden bears come back and knock off stanford with a dominant fourth quarter. Keep the ax and win the 125th big game, 2720 over the cardinal and thats just one of the oldest rivalries in college football. But its been a tumultuous couple of weeks for both those teams. Cal and Stanford Athletics facing a very cloudy future as the once mighty pac 12 conference has crumbled. Now, the person you heard bay area native cal grads, sportscaster with the pac 12 network and espn , weve got Roxy Bernstein joining us today. Roxy, thanks so much for being with us. Good morning, claudine. How are you . Im good. You know, its this question. The consultant is the latest news. But its been a tough week. I mean, you got these four schools left, the pac four. I feel bad even calling it the pac 12 and the acc saying we dont want you. Where do they go . Where do they consult . What do they look for besides the Mountain West . I think thats what cal chancellor carol kristin, Athletic Director jim knowlton, as well as stanford Athletic Director bernard meyer, are trying to figure out right now and what is the plan moving forward, because they have to come up with something. I think both cal and stanford are determined to stay at the power five level, which is the top level of college football. But right now, they need to find a plan moving forward. I think that you spelled out maybe an option. I think theres a number of options that theyre looking at to try to keep this going. Do they try to stay with the two Northern Schools that remain in the pac four, as you called it . Well have to see. But they need to act quickly because time is not on their side right now. Yeah you know, when the other schools announced that they had already found spots, big ten, big 12, you know, the question is, you know, what were cal and stanford doing, you know, an oregon state and Washington State in that time . I mean, we know from the acc, you know, theres this question about money. What do they bring to the table . And specifically that money money pile. But theres also, as notre dame came out and saying, look, this is about more than than money. Is this really, you know, cal stanford not doing enough to find a place or is this really indicative of kind of the larger issue that were all now looking at when it comes to College Sports and how this gets managed . I think it it plays into the larger issue, which you talked about. And its all about money right now. For me, its hard to fathom. You have two of the premier universities, not just in our country, claudine, but in the world. Cals the Number One Public University in the world. Do you have stanfords degree, which is second to none and also when you look at stanford, they are the most successful Athletic Department in the country. Theyve won the most national championships. So i find it hard to believe that these two schools will not have a seat at the table when its all said and done. And i think they were hoping, like some of the other schools in the conference, that the remaining teams would Stay Together and the pac 12 would move forward. But that dissolved last friday when oregon and washington decided to take an opposite and jump to the big ten. Then you had the two arizona schools with utah joining colorado moves to the big 12. That left cal and stanford behind for the time being. They need to figure that out quick because is look, these are two premier universities, as we know. Its just hard to fathom that theyre not going to be a part of it. And but there are i mean, what would your best prediction be and your best option . I mean, the options arent arent great. You know, from from where i sit from a lot of people talking about whether youre talking about a lot of travel. I mean, even if the acc vote had gone the way of cal and stanford, it would have set up another debate of how the athletes manage that and what that looks like. If you were going to predict and you were saying they were going to say roxy, okay, you decide. You decide, forget oliver luck. You decide what happens next. What do you think the best . Because it seems like there are options, but not necessarily great options. Well i think the best option is if the big ten would take cal and stanford and makes sense with both usc and ucla there, plus oregon and washington, it gives the big ten an arm on the west coast for these schools to Stay Together. I dont know if thats going to happen. Rumor is the big 12 president s or big ten president s, i should say. They want cal and stanford because of the educational component and how they fit with those schools. But i dont know if that offer is going to come at the end of the day, they might have to merge with some schools possibly in the american conferenc the Mountain West schools come join them like san diego state. But right now, with oliver luck brought in, i think that is the most likely scenario. A group of teams coming in to join the remaining pac schools to form a new conference moving forward. Yeah, its certainly going to be confusing and certainly if you were a recruit to one of these schools, youre sitting there going, im not sure what i just committed to or what did i just signed to. And so certainly hopefully they make a decision sooner than later. Roxy we got to leave it there, but i appreciate you making the time to join us. It will give you plenty to talk about as we move forward, thats for sure. Claudine, thanks for having me. All right. Time now is 841. This has been a stressful conversation in my house nonstop. Rosemary but now well well just debate the weather instead. Okay no debate about it. Its going to be a scorcher in lynn clouding. Meanwhile, along the coastline, very mild to warm and inside the bay. We are seeing a little bit along highway one half. Moon bay reporting visibility half mile, which is an improvement. It was down to about zero. That was the scene at sonoma boulevard and lemon street in vallejo early this morning. Fireworks were going at the same time. A large crowd had gathered to watch drivers spinning donuts and doing other dangerous stunts. At one point, a man tumbled off a speeding car during the chaotic scene and it was a similar scene in the Oakland Hills early this morning. A big crowd gathering on mountain boulevard near redwood road to watch this sideshow. Several hours ago, speeding cars came dangerously close to many of the spectators, but its not clear if anyone was hurt. One car erupted into flames during another overnight sideshow, and that was in oakland on seventh and grand avenue right near the port of oakland. The burning car did not stop any of the sideshow activity. Many spectators just pulled out their cell phones and took pictures of the car going up in flames. No word of any arrests and any of those three sideshows. Well, Autonomous Vehicles making some news for causing a traffic jam in San Franciscos north beach neighborhood. Thats after ten crews, cars stopped in the middle of grand avenue. Ctvs dave devlin is live in north beach with more on the companys response. Blaming connectivity issues because of crowds using their phones. And dave, this is one of those things where youre shaking your head and i know thats what people were doing last night when they were staring at those cars. Oh, you know, these Autonomous Vehicles are getting a bad rap. You know, whether you like them or you dont after the meeting that happened earlier this week, the California PublicUtilities Commission gave these autonomous taxis the green light to expand services. And when there are already issues, what happened friday night, of course, just putting a bad image for crews. This is where those ten cars came to a stop because like you said, because of connectivity issues, this is the intersection of grant avenue and vallejo. Again like you said, this all causing a traffic jam. Heres what we know about that incident that caused a lot of people to pick up their cell phones. Theres like ten of them right in the comments rolling in. This is just some of the video making the rounds on social media. Were talking at least ten cruise robo taxis coming to a halt on grant avenue in the north beach neighborhood friday night. The stalled vehicles causing a traffic backup on the tiny street that houses restaurants and bars and it leaves a lot of people questioning decision by state regulators who recently approved the expansion of the use of robo taxis in the city. Thursday todays vote of 3 to 1 now allows for Companies Like waymo and cruise to operate 24 hours, seven days a week and collect fares. The companies are not limited to certain number of fleet vehicles. People we spoke to say fridays traffic jam once again proves that this technology is not ready to be rolled out on San Francisco streets. I know its problematic and its i think they rushed it and i dont quite know why other than political pressure. So but anyway, its unfortunate and i and last nights incident shows some of the problems that may occur this even worse than what the fire chief and the Fire Department have said. And in response to the traffic jam crews said in a statement. A large festival post wireless bandwidth constraints causing delayed connectivity to our vehicles. We are actively investigating and working on solutions to prevent this from happening again. We apologize to those who were impacted and this is what were really hearing from a lot of people, many people concerned about the public safety. These vehicles pose when they stall in the streets. At thursdays commission meeting, we heard from San FranciscoFire Department saying that it interferes with response and response time. A lot of people saying it also creates those traffic jams. Now what we did hear from commissioners during thursdays vote was that if additional incidents like these continue to occur, Companies Like waymo and cruise could have some of their privileges revoked. They mentioned having the permits possibly pulled or at least having some of their fleets reduced. Still unclear how friday nights traffic jam will impact the. Well, we are following new developments in the wildfire disaster on the Hawaiian Island of maui. The official death toll climbed to 93 overnight. That number expected to continue to rise in the coming days as search efforts continue. Now the wildfires that broke out tuesday have destroyed or badly damaged at least 2200 homes and businesses and other buildings. Hawaiis governor is praising the federal government for its response to what is now the deadliest wildfire in more than 100 years. It is rare. It is rare that we see this level of government leadership all come together. Youve heard that weve been in contact at the highest level and the president has been generous with us beyond measure. The death toll in maui has now surpassed that of the camp fire in the Northern California town of paradise five years ago, 85 people were killed in that wildfire back in november of 2018. And firefighters in maui are still putting out hotspots from a wildfire that broke out on friday night. This was just north of lahaina, the town that was hardest hit in this firestorm. It burned for several hours in kaanapali, where many people live in lahaina, had gone to escape from those fastmoving flames who were trying to find shelter and get gas for their cars. Now, no homes were damaged in the fire in kaanapali and crews do have it fully contained now. And tough terrain haders to put out a wildfire in livermore. I want to show you some video of that vegetation fire that broke out last night on call your canyon road. There you can see there, it burned about 15 to 20 acres and the flames spread due to the brush in that area. You can see from this video that there was also a slope on that hill. So crews were having a tough time getting access to parts of the fire. Now, there are several agencies that responded, including the Alameda CountyFire Department and cal fire. No word yet on the cause, but we are checking with the Fire Department this morning. We have some calls in to get the latest status on that fire. And crews in the south bay had to fight this wildfire in the san jose foothills. A pga camera showing the fire and this time lapse video, it broke out last night along Mount Hamilton road. Officials said ten acres were burned and no word just yet on the cause of this fire. All right. Time now is 909. A beautiful morning behind us. Its going to take a little bit longer for some other parts of the bay area to see what were seeing behind us rosemary. Yes, get a load of this view got the, a little bit of wispy fog there. My goodness, what a gorgeous view. Just along the coastline. Hard to see much. Weve got Half Moon Bay shifting visibility from about half mile down to about zero mile. Most of us are okay when it comes to low lying fog. But right along the coast highway, when youre going to find it not only thick but mist and drizzle a possibility as well until this finally lifts out of here, were going to be stuck with that, at least for the next hour or two. It will begin to lift do expect to be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy along the coastline for today. And mild temperatures. Meanwhile, the onshore breeze for fairfield, we always watch this. This is an indication here of whether or not our inland cities will get a benefit of that cool pacific air. Not going to happen. Very similar to what we had yesterday. And in fact, temperatures are going to warm over yesterdays highs and were already seeing it out there for our inland cities, up by four degrees. Santa rosa, napa, petaluma, up by six degrees t . For those of us around the bay, a 64 in oakland, Half Moon Bay,7 reported there. But you go inland already in the 70s, 73 livermore 74 in brentwood for the second part of the day, were going to have an increase in clouds come our way. Heres a look at the timeline for you. Its lunchtime time. Clouds along the coastline, partly cloudy there inside the bay. Our inland cities enjoying plenty of sunshine. But look what is bubbling up over the sierra. We have some moisture coming our way from the Desert Southwest that is going to push into the sierra, bring the risk of thunderstorm there, but also bring us some cloud cover into the afternoon by 4 00. Were only partly cloudy, so sometimes the clouds come in. Help to offset the heat. Doesnt look like its going to happen. Clouds are going to come in too late. But by five, six, 7 00, 8 00 into sunset, we may be mostly cloudy with that midlevel moisture overhead. So it could be a bit muggy for many today. Could squeeze out a shower, although it doesnt really look like much of anything at all. Meanwhile our temperatures for today continuing to climb, especially inland, going above average. Santa rosa, 90 for you today, 79 in oakland, upper 90s in concord, upper 80s expected for san jose and continuing to climb into the business week. Ill have a look at what you can expect for the afternoon today region wide as well as the days ahead coming up. Well the city of oakland is still looking for a new police chief before the Police Commission puts forward a candidate. The public offers input one final time. They are the front runners in the 2024 president ial race. But both President Biden and former President Donald Trump are now facing legal problems. Next, well talk to sonoma state Political Science professor david mcewen on the ramifications and the impact of the hunter biden case it states the case has far bidee 2024 president ial election. Joining david mcewen, who is celebrating his 20th year at sonoma state university. Good morning, professor. We appreciate you joining us here. Good morning. Thanks for the shout out. You know, theres obviously a legal reason why we have a special counsel for this case. But in general, what kind of perception do you think that gives the rest of the country . Look i mean, whats happening on the legal realm, certainly for hunter biden is going to be a problem for the Biden Administration in terms of where their focus is going to be. But that trial that that case is likely to go to trial at some level. One thing to Pay Attention to is whether or not the issue of he should have registered as a foreign agent, an agent of a Foreign Government kind of lobbying on behalf of a Foreign Government. Thats something to watch in this case. But its not a big focus for the administration. Its a focus of the president himself because of how he feels about his son and how the troubles his son has had in the past. But in terms of the politics of this, it will be a sidelight, it will be an important component for republicansalk about. But you also have a former presideny the end of this week, likely to face something more around 90 charges. Right now, he he is at a number of 78. As that kind of moves forward or what that looks like moving forward. Itll be something to watch. You touched on this a tad here. I feel like republican candidates, especially some of these president ial candidates, often talk about this hunter biden story, this hunter biden case that didnt really seem like it had a lot of meat to it for a while. But now that we have a whole investigation into here, does this kind of give them some credibility to kind of continue essentially trash talking the president . Well, i mean, theyre going to continue to trash talk the president. Thats no doubt. But but these are not equivalents. I mean, you have a former president whos facing three criminal indictments. Again, its likely we see something come out of georgia later this week. If that happens , thatll be a fourth or criminal indictment. Hes got five trials total going on. All of that, though, i think does speak to the wavelength that donald trump has in terms of the Republican Party. Look he has something where he can own the Republican Party. He can play them like a guitar up and down and republicans are going to do the same thing. And that whole kind of amplitude of whats going on, that music of donald trump or the Republican Party spills over to what goes on in terms of the democrats and how they approach things. But youre also seeing Something Else is different here, james, and that is look, the democrats are going harder at the republicans and going back at them. And this is a change in their communication strategy. So something to watch for your viewers. I think something to watch for all of us is whats the role of the Vice President here . What happens with Kamala Harris . Because republicans want to talk about her a lot. They want to talk about hunter biden. And so far, the Biden Administration taking on biden. Biden biden, economics, the biden nomics component combined with pushing forward Kamala Harris to get out the vote. That all is going to come to clash here shortly as we get underway in full throat knoh suggests that both former President Trump and current President Biden have legal ramifications that they have to deal with right. Legal proceedings that have their names on it. Obviously, President Trump is dealing with them directly. President biden kind of in a second hand thing. But how much do you think voters can care about that kind of separation of difference . Yeah, i mean, voters for the for the hardcore kind of conservatives and the left, the liberals. Right. Theyre going to theyre not going to go anywhere. Its really the purple people that are going to be important. Its those people who are tuning out from this and then make their decision late when they make their decision late. This gives rise to things like we see the no labels movement, which is already on the ballot in 12 states and no labels. Whether they look at someone like joe manchin or others to move forward to provide some space may be able to animate the conversation about who the nominees are in terms of what what theyre talking about. And in terms of what their issues are. But third parties or this no labels movement, for example, while it might have some appeal to these purple people, its very difficult under the rules to move forward in american politics. Right. You can think back to ross perot or John Anderson in 1980, but they changed the conversation. But they dont necessarily change the trajectory of whats going on. And that means that if youre if youre governor desantis, you have to do something about kind of the trump juggernaut because of his ownership of the Republican Party. He looks like the nominee. And for joe biden, you want to talk about dynamics and you want to talk about our role in the world and how things are working. Thats sets up a big clash, i think moving forward. Some interesting stuff and certainly well see a lot of headlines coming out soon. David mcewan with sam state university, we appreciate you being here, sir. Thank you very much. Good morning. All right. Time now, 920 this morning. Lets talk about some of our weather rosemary oroczo in the Weather Center talking about some warmer temperatures headed our way. Yes, hats off to tlc this morning. The folks responsible for our live cams. Take a look at that one. A beautiful shot there of the bay bridge. Weve got some sunshine across the bay area along the coastline. We have patchy fog. And at Half Moon Bay, zero visibility. So anywhere from patchy fog and drizzle at the coast to sunshine. And we are watching this as well off the coastline of Southern California. That low remains parked. And with that, we continue to see some of that moisture pull into california via the sierra and then off our direction. Heres a look at the futurecast model. I want to point out a couple of things. As we get into the afternoon, youre going to notice again the thunderstorms that begin to develop over the sierra. Then we begin to see the clouds come our direction. We dont have really the risk of thunderstorms or even rain for that matter. But we will have an increase in clouds come our way later in the day. But by wednesday, this low begins to migrate farther north and closer to us. And the flow turns more southerly instead of easterly. And with that southerly flow, the low clouds will return in a bigger way. And we will begin to cool things down. Not the case for today or for the first part of the week. 64 degrees in oakland right now, 74 in brentwood for outside lance today. A Beautiful Day along the west edge, upper 60s with mostly cloudy skies and then cooling off into the evening hours just after sunset. Were looking at temperatures in the upper 50s. Meanwhile, if youre in the inner east bay today, by lunchtime, already nearing 90 degrees and then mid to upper 90s for the second half of the day, going to be a hot one for you there in the north bay. 90 degrees santa rosa around the bay low 80s hayward mid 80. San mateo along the peninsula going to be warm. The extended forecast temperatures are climbing slightly on monday, peaking on tuesday above 100 degrees for some of our hotter spots mid 80s around the bay. Well, this will be a busy week for state lawmakers. They have less than five weeks to decide on the fate of 920 proposed new laws. Now, those include a lot of issues. One one is a formal warning to drug dealers that they could face murder charges if they sell fentanyl to someone and that person dies of an overdose. Another addresses parental groups banning books in schools that are approved by their districts. A university of the pacific law professor who tracks new laws says these are big issues that are likely to require hours of intense debate. A lot of these big issues require extensive negotiation and sometimes times elected officials are driven to make compromise sizes and come to an agreement because of looming deadlines. The state legislature has until september 14th to pass or reject those proposals, as those that pass will go to governor newsom, and he will have until midoctober to sign them or not. And hes already warned that with the states 30 billion budget deficit, hes prepared to veto most, if not all, new spending proposals that are sent to him. The eiffel tower in paris and its surrounding area were evacuated yesterday following a bomb threat that turned out to be a false alarm. The evacuation was a precautionary measure that lasted for about two hours after investigating authorities deemed that threat as a false alarm and visitors were then allowed back into that area. Many tourists were there. This is the peak of Summer Travel and some say they were annoyed by the closure. However, others say it was the right thing to do. It is a little bit scary, but i mean, it is a city and thats where they are going to set bombs off if theyre going to do it because its summertime and this loads of people here say if they if they were going to do it and yeah, it is a city, it is rare for the eiffel tower to be evacuated. Robo taxis causing a traffic jam in north beach in San Francisco. Ten cruise cars stopped in the middle of grant avenue and the company says its all because of connectivity issues. Dave detailing live from north beach in San Francisco this morning with some public reaction. Dave. Good morning. Good morning, james. A lot of people not buying that connectivity issue and really, when you look at it, this isnt a good look for cruise, especially it comes after two days when the voted to expand services for Companies Like waymo and cruise. Heres what we know about friday nights robotaxi traffic jam here in north beach. This is video that is making the r imagine, when you see ten cruise robo taxis come to a halt, people whipped out their cell phones, started recording. They posted to social media the salt vehicles caused a traffic backup on the tiny street that houses restaurants and bars, leaving many people to question the decision by state regulators to approve the expansion expanded use, rather of robo taxis in the city. Thursdays controversial vote of 3 to 1 now allows Companies Like cruise and waymo to operate 24 hours, seven days a week and collect fares. The companies do not have to limit their fleet vehicles. Were told that they could have up to 600 on city streets. People we spoke to say fridays traffic jam that lasted about 15 minutes proved the technology is not ready to be rolled out on San Francisco streets. They havent addressed the issues that the fire chief and the Fire Department and the police have raised. Its i think they just cpuc was too quick. They they i dont think they were really ready to be approved. And then the incident last night shows theres some other problems. But the safety issues are real and crews did release a statement saying a large festival posed a wireless bandwidth constraints causing delayed connectivity to our vehicles. The company went on to say they are actively investing and working on solutions to prevent this from happening again. And they went on to apologize to any people were who were impacted. Unclear if there were any riders in those robo taxis. But these type of hiccups are exactly what we heard during thursdays public comments. Section of the Public Utilities commission, people saying that they cause traffic jams, they get in the way of First Responders and again, friday nights traffic jam lasted about 15 minutes, stalling here at the intersection of vallejo and grant avenue. Still unclear here if there will be any repercussions for crews. Commissioner did say if these ise and waymo could have some ofheir permits revoked. Were live this morning in San Francisco, dave devlin, ktvu fox two news. Okay thank you, dave. Well, oakland held its final Public Meeting for people to say what they would like to see from the citys next police chief. Oakland mayor shengtao fired the former chief Loren Armstrong more than six months ago. City hall insiders say no one has been hired because of disagreements within city hall. Now, in the meantime, the volunteer who is running the Search Committee says her group has been asking the public for guidelines in selecting a new chief. What weve heard more than anything else is they want whoever is chief of police to reside in the city of oakland. So that requirement is going to go on the job description. Whats happening here . People we talked to say they are glad the city is asking for input, but they are disappointed more city leaders were not at the meeting to hear from them directly. I felt compelled to come to this meeting because oakland needs change and i no longer feel safe in my own city. What would you say to thes is this is all on you. Its time for you to make a change. Its time for you to come and get into the streets with the people. That woman also told us that she was also surprised that no one from the Police Department was at that meeting. 936 is your time. We are following the latest developments of the wildfire disaster on the Hawaiian Island of maui. The official death toll climbed to 93 overnight and that number expected to continue to rise in the coming days. The wildfires have destroyed or badly damaged at least 2200 homes, businesses and other buildings. Hawaiis governor is reminding tourists to stay away from maui, at least for the next several weeks. The National Institutes of health study tracked the antibody levels of women who were pregnant as well as the antibody levels in their cord blood after giving birth. And the women who received vaccines as well as their cord blood, showed antibodies for several covid variants. And that includes delta and omicron. That shows the antibodies offered protection to newborns. Researchers say that is a strong recommendation that women should get vaccines while theyre pregnant. And they say any time a woman is pregnant, the vaccines are safe. Theyre still trying to determine, though, when is the best time for maximum protection. See if we can get you ready for your sunday afternoon. Some warmer weather on the way here, rosemary oroczo with us from the Weather Center this morning. Yes, good morning. We do have a summertime pattern in place for the bay area, which means mild at the coast and baking inland. Heres a look over the Golden Gate Bridge. Beautiful shot the low clouds with us this morning. Fog along the coastline, even some patchy drizzle. Visibility looks to be improving, though. Half moon bay now reporting nine miles there. So it has lifted incredibly over the last half hour or so because we were down to about half a mile, even less than that early this morning, a little bit of patchy drizzle along the coastline, a sun shining inland and the onshore breeze through the delta is very weak. 13mph. And with that, the risk of thunderstorms for the afternoon for the sierra if you are heading in that direction for us by about 5 00 or so, its coming our way. Were not expecting any rain or that possibility of a thunderstorm, but we will see an increase in cloud cover, perhaps turning mostly cloudy. Well, new twist in the attempt to save the pac 12 conference, several Media Outlets are reporting that the conference has hired sports executive and administrator oliver luck as a consultant. He is also the father of former stanford quarterback andrew luck. Oliver luck is said to be well connected and respected within the athletic and Broadcasting Industries and is now going to try to work with the schools on whether they should merge with another conference or expand other schools from other conferences to join a new pac 12. Now, in our last hour, i 12 Network Announcer roxie bernstein, who says the Biggest Issue about where cal and stanford could end up is rooted in money and says it appears cal and stanford were expecting to remain members of a conference that would expand with other schools coming to them. But its become obvious thats unlikely now. I think the best option is if the big ten would take cal and stanford and makes sense with both usc and ucla there, plus oregon and washington, it gives the big ten an arm on the west coast for these schools to Stay Together. I dont know if thats going to happen. Rumor is the big 12 president s or big ten president s, i should say they want cal and stanford because of the educational component and how they fit with those schools. But i dont know if that offer is going to come. One of the biggest questions about that is if the Bay Area Schools would be willing to settle for a smaller share of conference payouts and other schools that includes ucla and usc, reportedly oregon and washington have already agreed to that. 949 this morning. Lets get you out the door and tell you a little bit about what you should expect from weather toda i think for the most part, rosemary, warmer weather, thats what we should expect. Yes. Take a look at this gorgeous shot here. My goodness. Just inside the bay and our hills, weve got some low lying fog there. What a glorious shot. We do have a beautiful start to the day for our bayside communities and inland already beginning to warm up. Still a little bit of fog hanging on along the coastline and some patchy drizzle. A possibility near highway one and half. Moon bay reporting low visibility this morning, but that has improved. We remain with the low parked off the Southern California coastline and the flow around it continues to bring in that monsoonal moisture. And with that afternoon, thunderstorms, a possible over areas of the sierra for us. Were going to go with partly to mostly cloudy skies late in the day and that could make it feel a bit muggy, especially for our inland cities that are going to be really warm this afternoon. Heres a look at the futurecast. Theres that low there. You can see the counterclockwise flow around it and you can see how it kind of drags in that moisture. But i also want to show you how that easterly flow is going to shift. Its going to take a few days and our temperatures are going to remain quite hot inland for a few days. But by wednesday may the slow begins to migrate north and closer to the bay area. It also changes the flow and now its a more southerly flow and thats going to help cool things down again, its not going to come until later in the week. In the meanwhile, we do have a very summerlike pattern for the bay area, which means mild at the coast, baking inland, 77 already in brentwood at this hour, closer to the water, 64 in oakland, a very mild 59 in San Francisco, as well as Half Moon Bay. If youre going to San Francisco, whether it be for outside lands or the giants game today, a Beautiful Day in the city. We have upper 60s expected at game time, a west breeze to 15mph, partly cloudy skies, afternoon highs inland going to again be quite warm, especially over areas of san jose going to 90 degrees for today by noontime low 80s expected for you there and then topping at about 3 00 in the afternoon remaining warm through four and 5 00 as well. Afternoon noon highs along the peninsula, 88 for redwood city in the north bay, 89 san rafael , fremont, youre looking at 85. The extended forecast temperatures bumping up a little bit more on monday, peak on tuesday when our hotter spots reach above 100 degrees mid 80s for our basic communities, thats warm, especially for folks like me who dont have ac upper 60s to about 70 along the coastline. Im a tad cooler on wednesday, a little bit more on thursday and it looks like additional cooling in time for next weekend. Back to you. Rosemary, the expert, thank you so much.
