The suspect managed to disarm the Security Guard of his baton struck the Security Guard in the head and face. Sheriffs Sergeant Javier Acosta says the guard pulled out his gun. The Security Guard then discharges firearm. Two rounds were shot. One struck the suspect. It happened at the home depot on old county road at about ten monday night, right as the store was closing. Police in the east bay have arrested a man suspected of vandalizing a newly opened bar. Police arrested 65 year old eladio santana on suspicion of grand theft and vandalism. They say santana vandalized and stole power tools from bentleys mobile bar in downtown martinez just days after his grand opening. Hes also accused of tampering with the water and internet lines. Santana has prior convictions for vandalism and arson. Heres a live look right now. What could be a contentious town hall meeting in vallejo. Thats where police are answering are about to field questions from residents about a proposed plan to reduce some services. The proposal stems from the ongoing staffing challenges facing the police department. There that meeting got underway just a few minutes ago. Brooks jarocz has a closer look now at the proposed changes which could result in unverified security alarm calls going unanswered by officers. Brazen burglars have hit tonys cakes in vallejo time and time again. We had to upgrade our security system, put metal grates on the windows, really fortify the place. Steel owner tony diaz says no suspects have been caught. Vallejo police is suffering a staff state of emergency, 34 patrol officers for the entire city. We have to look at how we can prioritize to provide the best Public Safety that we can. And this is part of that strategy. Digging into the data, over three years, the number one call for service is alarms. And out of 10,500 of those calls, 98 were false alarms, very low percent, resulting in 30 arrests out of all of those calls. So it is an area that we can cut, provide Better Public Service to be out there for the shootings, the stolen cars, the disturbances with violence here, the newly planned proposal, stop responding to unverified alarm calls and only investigate when theres confirmation of a crime in progress. It would be nothing new to me. Its always been like that. I dont think its much change in the city right now. Alarm calls require 2 to 4 officers dispatched vallejo. Police say on average it takes them ten minutes to arrive and 15 more minutes to clear the call. Its why two town Hall Meetings are allowing the community to sound off, proposing dispatchers just log unverified alarm calls and offer an incident number. And the deputy chief says more difficult decisions may need to be made and there could be more in the future. When we look at other calls that maybe we dont respond to until we can get our staffing up to where it should be, its why cameras are seen every few feet at tonys cakes. Diaz says hell do what hes been doing, taking matters into his own hands. We pretty much just make reports for insurance purposes now, not so much to have investigated or have someone follow up or, you know, try to solve crime in vallejo, brooks jarocz ktvu fox two news. Its back in a big way to the tune of 15 to 20 degrees cooler today than yesterday. This is what can happen after a heat wave right after a few hot days is what we had. And then the marine layer gets stretched out and it just gets blown in. When the valley gets really hot, it creates a thermal low. The air rises, it creates a thermal low. The oceans cold that creates the thermal high, essentially, and the high flows to low. So you get that. Thats your sea breeze, thats your onshore flow. Its classic bay area summer weather pattern that gets warm. And then we go right to getting cool again. And thats where we are now. Were in that cooling phase with temperatures today. Again, 15 to 20 degrees cooler than they were yesterday at this time. Well, 16 degrees cooler in fairfield, 21 degrees cooler in concord. Notice San Francisco, oakland, a little bit warmer, but those inland spots, those areas that were sweltering, no longer. Theyve dropped off big. So these are the actual highs from today 88 and livermore way down from yesterday, 78in santa rosa. Highs tomorrow are going to be cooler than these. So a few more degrees, not 20 degrees of cooling, but maybe 3 to 5 degrees more cooling as we head into your bay area wednesday. So a good pattern if you dont like using the air conditioner a lot, especially inland. Theyre going to be get a good a good break there and a good pattern. Of course, i keep saying fire danger because thats all we think about in the summer often. So when i come back, well look at the full forecast. But thats how it goes tomorrow. Cooler than these. Bill, thank you. Theres a booming population of Yellow Jackets in the north bay and pretty much everywhere else. And they can be extremely dangerous. That story still ahead. Also ahead tonight, veterans can face a lifetime of dangers even long exposed to toc chemicals. We have to deal with, but they are among the most aggressive and often attack in relentless swarms. New at six ktvu is tom vacar reports from Sonoma County, where calls for exterminators are on the rise as this Youtube Video from a bee Removal Company shows under the ground, Yellow Jackets will protect their nests with a dangerous and aggressive vengeance. Some people can be extremely sensitive or allergic to their venom. In the north bay yellowjacket populations are booming. Their colonies grow larger throughout the summer and into the fall. Were actually in the peak yellowjacket season right now, and as we move through summer and fall, their population will decrease. The marin and Sonoma County mosquito and Vector Control district says its gotten more than double the requests for help this year, well over 1200 compared to just over 600 calls last year. Inground nesting yellowjackets are highly aggressive, stinging insects, especially when their nests are disturbed or when theyre attracted to outdoor eating areas. They become extremely aggressive when their nests are disturbed or theyre swatted at so its extremely important to be very cautious. Jared newman is one of the districts technicians sent out to deal with them, as he did at this west petaluma house where an underground Yellow Jacket nest was right next to the house, way too dangerous for the homeowner to deal with most of the time. After you treat it, thats when they start getting aggressive because theyre all the ones that are out foraging, come back and try to protect the nest and then they see you because youre closest. So youre basically the enemy. So thats when they really, really start getting aggressive. Hundreds at least, that were all just kind of flying around and attacking me. And its the Property Owners responsibility to find that underground Yellow Jackets nest and they provide instructions on how to do that once they come out, if its indeed underground, they will dispatch it for free. Anything above ground, you have to call a commercial exterminator. Tom vacar ktvu fox two news. Coming up on ktvu news at 630. Turning diamonds into semiconductors. Tomorrow marks one year since President Biden signed the 280 billion chips and science act. The goal is to boost us production of semiconductors. Ktvu political reporter greg lee tells us how one east bay company is now trying to bring their new technology to market with the help of a bay area congressman, youre going to hear a lot about diamonds east bay congresswoman barbara lee arrived at a modest office space in west oakland for a tour of a unique company in her district. I believe in bringing dollars home to my congressional district. We pay a lot of taxes. A lot of the innovation and a lot of the creativity, a lot of development, a lot of manufactured bring should take place here in oakland. Representative lee meeting with the leaders of akash systems, a Semiconductor Manufacturer with a twist. The engineers make the chips used in nearly every modern device with synthetically produced diamonds. It is able to move energy from one point to the next fast, lower than any material ever. And thats what we make using the earths most thermally conductive material. The team says the chips can withstand extreme temperatures last longer and work more efficiently. They demonstrated for lee, using a simple example of an ice cube in one of their wafers. And now akash wants to grow in oakland. We want manufacturing to come back into our communities. For instance, here with akash manufacturing. What they are doing in terms of semiconductors will help create about 500 jobs in this great city. But to do that, theyre asking for federal help and money from the chips and science act signed into law one year ago, congresswoman lee and senators Dianne Feinstein and alex padilla wrote a letter of support to the secretary of commerce. This money would not only be transformed for a cash, it would be transform for the community. This is what was intended. We intended that there would be equity in all of these initiatives that the Bidenharris Administration initiated. And we worked on legislatively recently, House Republicans called for a full accounting of spending from the law. A cautious request comes during National Black business month, and for this black owned company and representative lee, the impact would go far beyond new jobs. Its something that inspires a lot of young stem kids coming along who want to look up to leaders in tech and stem and see that they are represented. When the Mega Millions jackpot hits ten figures like this, Richard Dickie says thats when he plays it. Generally, when it gets up to this big i think on this one here, i probably got about 200 invested. Youve spent 200 in Mega Millions already. But i dont go crazy like this unless it gets to this amount. Yep. You heard right. Hes already spent 200 worth of Mega Millions tickets before buying several more just this morning. No ones won the Mega Millions jackpot and matched all six numbers since april 18th. The pot of money has swelled to a record breaking amount, more than 1. 5 billion. So far. And growing the jackpot grew by 30 million just in the first couple of hours of ticket sales. This morning. You hear it, you hear the vibes, you go, i get here and get it early before the lines this afternoon. There is no strategy. I just get the quick pick. Think long, think wrong and no reason or rationale really. The odds of winning this jackpot 1 in 302,000,000. Somebody hits it, right . There are, of course, other smaller prizes. If you matched some of the winning numbers, you get five, you get 1 million match four, you get ten grand. Its not the same as 1. 5 billion, of course, but most of the people we talked to say theyre just in to play it for fun. The drawings at 8 00 tonight, ali rasmus ktvu fox two news the beautiful city of oakland tonight is the fog pushes in across the bay and over into the coastal hills. And beyond that its most certainly but you see the clouds slightly fractured as they move across the bay. Marine layers getting deep in response to a shortwave low. Pressure center thats coming our way. That will continue to kind of pulse through the area over the next couple of days, giving us temperature drops or milder temperatures. These are the drops over the last 24 hours. You can see 16 degrees in fairfield. Cooler livermore, 14 degrees cooler. So, yes, there was a warm day the day before that was pretty warm. That changes around as we go into these next few days as we cool down. These are the highs on monday. This is the high today essentially. So you can see the big departure, a solid 10 to 15 degrees, almost 20 degrees in some cases. So significantly cooler. Theres the fog, a bunch of it, low clouds pushing inland. If we look at the gate, you can see its pushing right over the marin headlands, meaning its deep enough. Its going right through mount tamupd point, richmond and vallejo. Now, in that fog is going to be in your neighborhood tomorrow morning, 76 in fairfield. Thats like i say, good 15 degrees cooler than it was last night at this time. So a big cool down air conditioner is probably not clicking on as much in the inland bay valley. And we are, of course, getting a break, albeit small, break from the fire danger. This is the forecast for tomorrow morning. So boom, more fog tomorrow morning than we had this morning. So a lot of cloud cover in that. Thats going to bode or set us up for a day, very much like what we had today, maybe probably a little bit cooler. And then wednesday does the same thing. So what it is, is up to the north of us, theres just these weak impulses. Theres no real big deep trough right over to the north. But they just keep sliding over the top of this kind of soft ridge and bring us a stretched out marine layer in fog footprint like this for tomorrow morning. So there you go. And with temperatures, a good 3 to 5 degrees cooler tomorrow because of all that clouds. So it burns off tomorrow. Its going to be one of those days where its very slow burn off. So San Francisco appears may not even see the sun tomorrow in terms of direct sunlight. As you look at the forecast highs for tomorrow, fairfield, 83, 84 in antioch, 78, santa rosa and then 79 in san jose. I like this pattern. It works out for me and i hope it works out for you again.
