She gives us an inside look now at the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad. In this hometown spotlight. As the sun comes up, the engine heats up. You have to show up three hours early to get it to where it will move. And so you got to you got to build it three hours, three hours. But, you know, youve got it when it lifts off a little steam. The bell rings and then choo choo, choo. Gives now that unmistakable sound that calls to those young and old. Were actually just on a bike ride. We live in campbell, and she heard the trains horn and was like, lets go. So we went and we found the train. Welcome to the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad in los gatos, one of the few nonprofits of its kind, though a lot of the other ones in the area are private operations, privately owned for profit things that work to keep themselves afloat. We rely entirely on donations, on tickets, sales to kind of help keep us afloat. This railroad was born out of a love of trains and community. It was back in the 1940s when billy jones found this number two train in a scrap yard and saved it and then created something everyone could enjoy. He loved trains, so he actually worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for his entire career. So he grew up working with trains and having the opportunity to run a small engine on his property was something that appealed to him. He also just had a general love and care for the community. So he wouldnt charge for tickets, any donations that would come in outside of just general maintenance costs. He would donate to local charities. It became a part of the fabric of los gatos, and jones made sure it stayed. We actually have a photo of billy jones and walt disney. Were actually friends to the point where walt wanted the number two engine to operate in disneyland. Originally before billy convinced and encouraged him to get his own engine so that it would have its own history rather than erasing the history of the number two. After he died in 1968, a group of businessmen came together to make sure his legacy endured and moved the train here to oak meadow park. Today, the tradition continues. What are we going to go on . Did did they come . Been coming here since his daddy was his age. I like the engine. And while its not free anymore, the railroad says prices are kept as low as possible. Whats the first thing you said in the if it was overpriced, we couldnt do it. But if it was priced and the budget, we could do it just 3 gets you a seat. Have you been on this train before . Oh yeah. Oh yeah. What do you like about the train . The ocean takes you back. Childhood and new memories for our boys. Yeah, it gets you a ride past Los Gatos Creek and through the 12 acre park. We never really went outside. Outside and say. And now i live in Mountain View with my family. And i found this place. And my boys have three boys. They love the train. Its cool and fun. 3 will also get you on the bill mason carousel built in 1915, it joined the railroad in 1991 and beckons you to find that special horse. It was like it had blond hair. It was the color white. And it like had flowers and stuff on it. And take a little spin. In fact, we went to disneyland and all he wanted was the carousel. Because of this one, we do the train in the carousel once a week at least. Yeah. Yeah. Do you like the train . Yeah, the carousel. And this fleet of trains have a history, but so do the people who care for them. The High School Kids who are your crossing guards and conductors. All those volunteers like cortland, who do whatever is needed . I like pretty much everything. And ever since i was like 9 or 10, ive been really into trains. Ive been coming here since i was like probably a toddler. I do like any kind of like job that doug wants me to do. Like i, i scrape rocks out of the ties. Um, i work on the roofs sometimes and people like kelly locke, who started here as a teenager looking for a summer job and ended up board president. Climbing the hill is the most challenging, which i really enjoy the challenge, especially with this locomotive. In 1970, i started training on the number two engine and became an engineer on the railroad. In august of 1970. Stop it. So ive been an engineer here for 53 years. Wow so there you go. Wow. Well, a shark bite survivor says she is still ready to get she is still ready to get back into the water. Jeff paul spoke with a woman who says she understood why this happened to her. The swimmer who was bitten says she was out in the ocean splashing around when all of a sudden she felt some pressure on her upper thigh in that very moment, she knew exactly what had just happened and swam as fast as she could to the closest boat. Now we want to warn our viewers, youre about to see some photos that some people at home might find slightly graphic. Shark experts say looking at the bite, it was probably a large shark. However, they describe it as a, quote, soft bite. Thats when sharks are curious and investigating. Now, this all happened about 2 to 3 miles out from the Saint Petersburg pier in florida. 26 year old natalie brandis says she and a group of her friends were jumping off a boat, swimming around and floating in the water for a few hours. However that all ended when natalie felt she had been bitten. Thankfully, all she needed was 14 stitches and is expected to be just fine. But natalie says she has learned a painful, yet powerful lesson and does not hold any ill will towards the shark. It sucks that this happened, but it when youre entering and being with large creatures in their home, you have to respect that. It was a perfect cocktail for the perfect storm. Now we should know more people are killed by bees and cows each year than sharks. And your odds of being killed by a shark roughly 1 in 4,000,000. However on the contrary, humans kill tens of millions of sharks each year worldwide, compared to the five people who were killed by sharks just last year in atlanta. Jeff paul, fox news. Well i like that story. I like the way they represented sharks. Theyre so often those stories end up where the sharks, the bad guy and its dangerous in the ocean because of sharks. And the reality is theyre just curious and very few people very few people. Ive been in the water 40 years. Ive seen one. And thats it. So its theyre not theyre not this horrible beast that theyre made out to be. Okay. So enough of that. These are the highs from today. 105 in fairfield that was the hot spot. Thats pretty warm. And temperatures are going to be a little cooler. So lets say fairfield tomorrow goes to 98, not 105 got fog right along the coast. Its filling in. It went away this afternoon. And so coastal areas got mild, low 60s. Tomorrow coastal areas, low 60s again, current temperature shows a little bit of a sea breeze, that green area. And of course, running warmer than we were last night at this time. And thats just because theres a warmer day today as a warmer stay. Were going to see for a little while with temperatures, like i say, over 101, 102, 105, and some of those inland bay valleys. This low pressure area which has been around, its hard to see here, but its going to dip down, starts really on tuesday. But tomorrow is going to be a little bit cooler because of the sea breeze. But by tuesday and wednesday, a more pronounced low drops in very similar and reminiscent of what weve been seeing pretty much all summer long. And that will cool things off. So as we go into tomorrow morning, a little patchy fog along the coast, a warm day, not much fog in the morning. So its going to be sunny. Plenty of warm temperatures inland, upper 90s, not low, 100 upper 90s, low 80s, mid 80s around the bay and at the coast low 60s. And then as we go into Tuesday Morning thats when that trough drops in and look what it drops in it increases the inversion and look at all the fog in the morning or at least the forecast fog. And then it burns back very slowly. And tuesday is a noticeably cooler day as well as wednesday and thursday. Theres that cold. Its just not going to be as warm as today or tomorrow. The forecast for tomorrow. Then youll see these temperatures fill in. Reds are 90s. You see the heat still kind of working its way this way. But around the bay, certainly much cooler. Its a nice day tomorrow. Air quality is good. Fire danger is going to be high just because weve had a couple of hot days now. And so with fire danger, with a hot day like this tomorrow, i would anticipate some some small fire starts. Winds not an issue. So any kind of fire that does start would get put out. And then we start to cool down as we go into tuesday, wednesday and thursday. Its not again, its not going to get cold, but highs instead of being in the upper 90s are going to be in the upper 80s as we go into wednesday, thursday, friday and then saturday and sunday, it warms up just a little bit. Again but a very advantageous forecast in terms of fire danger and air quality. Its going to be good both of them. Ill see you back here at 11. All right, bill, thank you.
