Fox, Madison Scardino joins us live from bellville, illinois with more details on whats driving the increases. Hey, madison. Hey, greg. Well illinois has the highest gas prices east of the rockies, but california definitely has us beat. But overall, so far this year, gas prices have been pretty steady. However, this past month, prices nationally jumped by about 0. 30. And just like people, these refineries cant take the sweltering heat. And theres been a lot of production cuts for safety. Refineries operate between 32 degrees and 95 degrees. Thats their sweet spot. Anything outside of that . And refineries are not happy. Refineries can be dangerous places. People there are dealing with a lot of chemicals and have to be extra careful in the heat. Most of the countrys refineries are in texas and louisiana, where average temps have been well into the triple digits recently. Oil prices, theyre also rising. They have been for weeks and are causing prices at the pump to rise. In addition to all these other factors, triple a says that yet another factor in this is that demand has been down this summer. Demand has been flat this year. And its actually less right now than it was a year ago and the year before because like, who wants to go anywhere when its 115 degrees . You just want to stay home. And were in the middle of hurricane season. Things have been slow in the tropics so far. But if another hurricane were to hit, that raises concerns that production at refineries will be disrupted even more and in turn raised gas prices even more. And its something that oil and gas experts are really concerned about right now. Greg yeah. Madison just to torture ourselves here in the bay area, i know youre at a gas station, obviously. Can you look over and tell me what the price of unleaded gas is right now for you . All right. Dont hate me, guys. Its 389. I would gladly.
