So you just heard sal tell you we have breaking news in San Francisco where firefighters are battling a huge four alarm fire where a building is under construction. Meantime, police in fremont are still searching for thieves who stole a car while its owners were getting an oil change. Now, this happened last week at the Fremont Walmart mart auto care center. One osgood road. The couple that owns the car say they received a call from a car Center Employee who told them the thieves jumped behind the counter, stole the car keys, then sped off in their car. Something as simple as an oil change you would think would get done like the keys were in their possession. It would. Its something so simple and so easy. I wouldnt think that our car would get stolen. Now, police found that stolen car at a luckys parking lot four miles away from the car center using the cars tracking app. The license plates had been taken off. There were metal pipes in the trunk of the car. The owners very frustrated with the car center. They need to do something about this security system. They need to make sure that this doesnt happen to other people. And at the same time, they need to do something for us at the same time. Now walmart released a statement thanking the police for quickly tracking down that stolen car and walmart is promising full cooperation in the investigation. The Oakland Police commission is now accused of failing to meet its deadline to investigate allegations of misconduct against Police Officers. The newly hired director of the Community Police review agency says his group is trying to work through a huge backlog of cases there. The director says the next step is to take a close look at some of the most serious misconduct cases to ensure Police Officers are held accountable. I think now that weve really diagnosed the problem, theres an easy path forward. Were just looking at every single one of these cases and saying, wheres the misconduct . Lets prioritize investigating that officer involved shootings, deaths in custody. In other cases where theres something that appears to be egregious, the director now hopes to have the investigative caseload under control within the next nine months. And both congressman said they oppose a state bill that would raise the tolls on bridges to pay for bart. A state law is making way for more housing in alameda, the city says more than 500 Housing Units will be built on the vacant property, including 80 affordable Housing Units. Now, the new law allows the city to reuse and redevelop vacant and underutilized land within alameda. The property will also include retail space, a marina and more than four acres of public waterfront parks. The city hopes to break ground soon. Alameda has to build thousands of new Housing Units to comply with the housing goals. Thats just a fraction of californias average. But cal fire firefighters are still ready for this coming fire season after the wet winter. We had especially because were still almost two months away from the fall when the worst fires in california history have traditionally burned. The state is testing a new high Tech Solution to getting firefighters out quicker if firefighters to scenes anyway. Cal fire is using cameras and Artificial Intelligence to detect a wildfire. There are more than a thousand of these cameras set up around the state. Artificial intelligence analyze the feeds, spotting smoke and then alerting fire officials. No matter what we do back here, the water still needs to go on the fire. And we will always need the engines and the firefighters. But what i hope that we can use the technology for is to make it safer for the firefighters to do what they need to do. And thats really the bottom line is all of this technology is about making firefighters safer in the field , right . Right now, only six of cal fires 21 units are getting Artificial Intelligence generated alerts. Its not necessarily a perfect system at the moment. Sometimes the ai will flag dust or clouds. That means there are people who are tasked with studying the ais work and improving that system. Now, these cameras are also used to monitor other natural disasters like mudslides or flooding. Cooling has begun here, a much bigger fog bank and also a couple of systems, little lows are going to knock down the knock down the high there. So the cooling begins. Not only low clouds, we also have some higher clouds up above santa rosa, redwood city, livermore, san jose. The arrows are all pointing down on the forecast. Highs for 81, 76, 83 and 77 for those areas. Inland temps drop into the 80s, at least in my forecast zone here. After a couple of 90s there sunday and monday in concord, 94, 93 today, 183 and then wednesday and thursday should be similar, around 82 degrees. Always makes me nervous to drop ten degrees, but everything is pointing in that direction. The high continues to pump in a lot of moisture. Its been late to arrive, but its sure has already now. But most of that is staying south and east of us. We get some of the higher clouds and also in the activity stays more towards the central sierras , southern sierra and down into los angeles actually are getting a little bit there around riverside over to oceanside, temecula as well. Long beach near there. So just to the east and south of los angeles, a little bit of activity here on august 1st. We get that west southwest breeze coming through the golden gate and then all the way up to the strait and the delta 46 South Lake Tahoe to 79 in las vegas, 56 in monterey and 61 santa barbara, and then 71 down in san diego, 61 for brentwood, a lot of 50s here on the temps or upper 50s, low 60s, coolest temps by far to the north, 49. Now for windsor i know it was close for a couple other locations. San anselmo is at 50, laguna is at 5051 novato also fairfax in there as sebastopol was 49 now 50 and healdsburg at 52 sonoma American Canyon both at 57 degrees. A lot of moisture but again its very active Northern Arizona in and around parts of Southern Nevada and a little bit in the southern california. But these systems coming in, these lows are going to knock down this high for a couple of days before it tries to build back in on the weekend, 5060s over by the coast, water temps are still between 51 and 53. So they stay cool, fog, some higher clouds, partly sunny, mostly sunny, but cooler, breezy pattern to maybe downright windy later on today for some inland areas. If you live in a wind tunnel, a little bit cooler all the way into thursday, kind of leveling off. And it does look warmer inland as we go to the weekend. All right, steve, thank you. Time 651. As we told you, were following breaking news in San Francisco. Theres a huge fire near the hays valley area. Ali rasmus just arrived. So, ali, i know you just got there. What can you tell us so far . Well, dave, we can show you what we see here at the scene of this fire. This is octavia and fell in the hayes valley neighborhood. This is the building right behind us that was on fire. You can see the firefighters seem to have knocked down most of the flames, but this was a four alarm fire. What that means, a lot of resources directed to knock this thing down. So you can see at least three, four ladder trucks out here. Firefighters at the top of those ladders. Theyre directing their hoses at what was a building, were told that was under construction. This is a residential, very residential area, mixed use area, a lot of shops. So a lot of people live in this area. And weve seen a lot of folks come out taking pictures, taking video. People running out with you know, just a bag of stuff that they could gather to get out of their homes. I talked to one woman who lives a couple buildings down from where this fire started. And she said that she and her roommates woke up, saw an orange glow coming from their window. So they just grabbed a bag of stuff and then they ran out. As far as we can tell, it doesnt look like this fire has spread to any of the surrounding buildings. Were waiting to get some more detailed information. But right now, you see a huge firefighter presence out here. Theres about a half a dozen trucks out here and dozens of firefighters. So anytime you have a four alarm fire, that means Fire Department has to dedicate a lot of people and trucks and apparatus to tackle this. So were going to speak to the battalion chief out here and one of the commanders out here to get more information. We dont know if anyone was hurt or injured, but again, it looks like the building that caught fire was under construction, so no one was actually living there. Now, the food bank is not saying how much taylor swift donates, but they said her generosity would help its efforts to feed about a half Million People a month. The Nonprofit Organization also said the donation came at a critical time as their facing a level of need thats back up to peak pandemic levels.
