In the states most restrictive tear, the bay area counties are shown in light green and include every county except marin, San Francisco and san mateo which are still in the red tier. We have Live Team Coverage tonight. Debora villalon has been settling reaction, first Jana Katsuyama with more on the order itself. Reporter as you mentioned, this extends to most of the state. We are talking 94 of californias population that could be impacted by this curfew. And they stay extended through december 21. California Officials Say they are sounding the alarm with new nighttime curfews after the states Covid Infection rate rose about 50 in the first week of november. Todays actions will help us bring down transmission glenda curve. Californias health and Human Services secretary says instead of the statewide stay athome order like last march the curfew targets 10 pm to 5 am time frame when people tend to socialize, especially leading into the season of holiday parties and gatherings. People might be gathering with friends and maybe taking their guard down a bit because of the activities they are enjoying. Masks come down. The curfew does not impact essential workers or trips to Grocery Stores or pharmacies. People can still leave home with people in their household, walk their dogs and restaurants will be allowed to continue taken services past 10 pm. Many purple tear counties already have restrictions on dinings and gatherings. Critics question the purpose of the new order. I dont see how people being out past 10, as if the virus will be more active then. I think look, honestly people can be responsible. The Sacramento Sheriffs Office as they will not enforce the curfew or respond to curfew complaints. I certainly can imagine that some counties will benefit from using this as a tool immediately given the high rates of transmission. The curfew applies to 41 counties in the purple tear and that could increase. San franciscos Covid Command Center said that if the trend continues it is likely that San Francisco will be assigned to the purple tear within the week and we will be required to abide by the states order. The biggest concern is hospitalization rates which tend to lag a few weeks behind spikes in infections. 12 of our cases could end up in hospital. If you see 10,000 cases a day, today we reported over 11,000, that means into a half weeks 1200 individuals could be hospitalized. And that could quickly overwhelm hospitals and people dont take immediate action to stop the spread. Now to ktvus debora villalon, she gathered reaction in berkley. Its a change, it seems like every day things are changing and every day theres a challenge to overcome. Jupiter in berkley still has two nights a week and serves until 11, making money when they can despite covid. I may still have a waitlist of an hour and people waiting at the door to come in. Outdoor only, at to that winter weather, and now jupiter will lose those extra hours and details are murky. Is a 10 00 for the guests to be out of the door and the door locked doors a 10 00 for my staff to be out the door . Or is it 10 00 where Everyone Needs to be home . As it turns out, take out past 10 is okay. So fast food will remain busy. Burgers are considered essential. It kind of depends on how long we will have to do this. If its very temporary it shouldnt be too much of an issue. As long as we flatten the curve eventually, i guess thats what matters. The stayathome orders in march were much more extreme, emptying streets even in the daytime. All of my classes are online. Im just pretty much at my house. I think the curfew is a good thing. I think we should reduce the cases, we dont have a vaccine yet. Anything we can do to keep each other safe is important. If they are trying to limit social gatherings during the nighttime, i understand it, the vaccine is supposed to be coming our way by about springtime or so. I support it. I think it is a good thing, especially before the thanksgiving rush. Latenight dog walks will be solitary outings. I will take her on quick walks with a mask on. Enforcement, that is murky, too. Most likely driven by complaints with warnings at first. People who dont want to wear a mask wont wear a mask and people who want to stay out late will stay out late. I like the idea but i dont know how much it will really do. Education has been the primary approach during the pandemic. And dr. Galli admits its hard to imagine how to enforce a curfew but in his words Public Health has a partnership with californians and this is about coming together. People doing their part. Thanks deb. The projected cost of 198 million, fema reimburses the city much of that cash. Another funding source, governor Gavin Newsoms home key project putting up 62 million. As the Sacred Heart Community services begins distributing thanksgiving food this year, they are facing a grim reality they are seeing double the usual demand with unfortunately way fewer volunteers. Ann rubin tells us that the pandemic is taking its toll all the way around. Reporter this year sacred heart thanksgiving distribution is different. Due to covid the need has doubled. With many standing in line for the first time. Its very important because ive been laid off of my job. And its hard to get unemployment right now. They say it takes up to three weeks. This is a good supplement, good food to have when you dont have any. Hundreds in san jose have lost jobs and hundreds more have had their hours cut. This year weve kind of struggled with the pandemic. Emily working parttime and i have two girls at home doing homeschooling. So coming out here is really helpful. Sacred heart expects to serve 4200 families, about 10,000 people over five days. But without more help that will be a challenge. A volunteer shortage seems to be another side effect of covid. We are very low on volunteers. We typically do about 100 volunteers, this year we are scaled back to 45. And weve only got about 10 signed up right now. Sacred heart once to reassure people that theyve been social distancing in distribution and in the warehouse. Weve been very safe and very careful. Those receiving help say they are grateful for the food and volunteers. Offering a bright spot in an otherwise dismal year. I probably would not be able to have a thanksgiving if it were not for these people out here doing this. There are three days to walk up and get your food. Theres also two days that are drivethrough only. Sacred heart says they are still in need of more turkey and ham. Taking a look at the forecast. As we had towards a friday, the weekend is just around the corner. The thing to know will be that valley fog for tomorrow morning. You get the idea, that is a lot of fog, and thats inside the bay a little bit, too. Which could be dangerous, as you know. These are the forecast overnight low temperatures. Those temperatures inland especially could be low enough to get you fog. Right, when the temperature drops to a certain point, fog forms. The live camera shows no fog at the coast, but this is not a coastal fog, this is valley fog, but a beautiful night. You will notice more cold weather inland than we did last night. Temperatures will be five or 6 degrees cooler. There is a lot going on in the pacific. Youve got this guy here, thats nice looking. Then this guy here, thats good looking, too. Its going to miss us, we will be right in between the two. So that sets us up this weekend, tomorrow, saturday and sunday with pretty nice weather, not any rain to speak of. Although we do get our share of snow, 2 to 2 heavy. Ski resorts are making snow, plus theyve got the snow from the last two days, so there will be skiing. A couple of resorts are open now. And by thanksgiving a lot of resorts will be open. But my understanding is that you will not buying tickets at the resort, you have to go online. They will be a few clouds tomorrow heading in our direction but it wont bring any rain. The storm track stays mainly to the north, we stay mild, id call this warm for this time of the year. 65 in fairfield, 63 in oakland, 63 in hayward and 64 in san jose. So pretty mild and those temperatures kind of will roll right through the week, or at least the five day forecast. As you look at the top tier of numbers, that will be the low spots. The lower numbers represent the overnight lows. Especially at the inland locations at the bottom. But you get the idea, no rain and by the time we get to thanksgiving we are anticipating some clouds moving in. Then after that theres a chance of some showers after thanksgiving. We will see you back here at 11 with updates. Coming up in sports the san jose state spartans received some bad news tonight about this weekends matchup against fresno state. I cant sit here is a we feel good but ive got confidence in our players coaches and ownership. But to be truthful, this hurts. They will have to pick up the slack and theres the young man that might help do so. The forward at 24 years old acquired in a trade. The warriors will send the thunder some draft picks. Hes a former firstround pick with the wizards back in 2015. Had a really good season, may be the best of his career. Averaged almost 19 points per game, six rebounds and his best shooting percentage ever, he can score the ball and do some nice things. Some more positive stuff today as they were able to introduce their two top draft choices, introduced to the bay area, highly skilled basketball players, both proficient and with second languages. I think he said bob myers is a great gm. Nico was born in italy, and mandarin from 71 inch james wiseman. They should be some good characters. Hopefully they are super good on the court as well. Youve got to be flexible in 2020 as we all know and things are highly changeable, thats the case for the fresno state football program. There came against san jose state set for this saturday is canceled. The bulldogs have some covid problems and are not wanting to take any risks. So that game is off.
