Lot of votes to count there. Pueblo has 20 electoral votes up for grabs. The president has 52 of the vote right now compared to joe bidens 47 . And the race remains close in North Carolina, as well. President trump is in the lead here, with 50 bank account of the vote. Compared to joe bidens nearly 49 . North carolina, by the way, has 15 electoral votes and President Trump also slightly ahead at this point in georgia, with 96 of the vote counted. He leads with 50 of the vote compared to joe bidens 49 . Georgia has 16 electoral votes to offer now, earlier this afternoon both michigan and wisconsin were called for joe biden. Lets look now at the electoral vote total. Joe biden now has 264 of the 270 that he needs. Nevadas six could give him the white house, though. We have live coverage of the race for the white house. Our political reporter greg greg lee. Here we are a day after the election and the election remains unclear. Yes. With michigan and wisconsin going to biden his path to the presidency become mrs. Clear while President Trumps becomes more narrow. Lots of eyes on nevada, which you said that, could put biden over the top, but like you said, there are still several states on the board and a number of votes to be counted. In addition to the fact we are now stropping in strapping in for a series of legal challenges that could stretch is process. President trumps team plans to file for a recount in the state of wisconsin. The state rule allows for that if the final vote is reason 1 . The trump cam feign has filed lawsuits to stop vote counting in michigan and pennsylvania, claiming they have not had meaningful access to the tallying process, this after the president gave a speech in the wee hours of the morning, continuing to sew doubt in the electoral process. Here is what his personal attorney said today. We will not let them get away with it. They are not going to steel the election. The election gets decided by the people. We have not seen any examples of widespread fraud or voter fraud so far. If outwent bed before 3 00 a. M. You likely saw mr. Trump ahead in michigan and wisconsin. Former vicepresident joe biden closed the gap and took a lead, preparing for a legal fight, bidens campaign has begun collecting donations to counter the trump team in court. The former Vice President is in delaware watching the results come in. He gave a brief statement this afternoon it is clear that we are winning enough states to win the 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. I am not here to say we won, but i am here to report when the count is finished we believe we will be the winners biden also spoke about his ongoing theme of unity, saying if he wins he will work as hard for those that did not vote for him as those that did. Now to michigan and wisconsin, the two of the three states in 2 socalled blue wall that President Trump broke through in 2016 to lead him to victory. These are states both camps were focusing a lot on. Pennsylvania part of that group. It is likely we will be waiting a couple days for those results. Heather . Looks like we will be waiting a little longer. Greg lee, thank you so much. While the outcome remains undecided this afternoon, joe biden is ahead in the popular vote, breaking the record now for the most votes ever received by a president ial candidate in u. S. History. Lets go ahead and take a look at those numbers. As you can see here, joe biden has wrapped up more than 71 million votes. With these numbers, biden breaks the record set by his former runningmate, barack obama, during his president ial run in 2008. All right. More analysis on the president ial election. To do that we bring in david mccue win the Political Science professor from sonoma state university. Good to have you on as election day turns to election week here. Wisconsin and michigan now won by biden, the states the president won in 2016. Do you believe the clearest path for the presidency is through the southwest through arizona and nevada . Yes, that is really the pathway forward for him. He has to win nevada, he has too win arizona, to move forward to that 270 number. If he only wins arizona, he doesnt win nevada. If nevada goes to President Trump and pennsylvania goes to President Trump, we have the potential for a 264 sorry, 269269 tie that. Would be chaos, the worst thing possible out of all of this. But really, for joe biden it will come down to just a few thousand votes there in nevada and that will place a lot of pressure on pennsylvania and what we see coming out of the counts in philadelphia and areas around pittsburgh, as well. Yes. A lot of focus still on the count going on in the commonwealth of pennsylvania here. What do you see as the chances here for President Trump to be reelected to a second term . Obviously we are seeing it appears the strategy already is for the Trump Campaign and team to pretty pretty much litigate wherever they can in any states that are close. You know, what of these lawsuits and the legal challenges tell you about how the campaign kind of used the race at this point . So, there is the dual kind of messaging going on. The Trump Campaign wants counts to continue to go on in arizona and nevada, but they want to stop the counts for the legally cast ballots in michigan, wisconsin and other states that are leaning, they want to hold. That is not how it works. The ballots cast by november 3 get to be counted. Standing before the Supreme Court, going directly to the court to push this issue will be problematic. There is another element here. That is that the Trump Legal Team is not and allstar team. You dont have ben ginsburg, maybe the Top Republican election law expert in the country to work for george bush, you dont have him. And you dont have don mcgahn, your white house lawyer. Those two are superstars on election law that. Will hurt the Trump Legal Team and its argument. It will make political arguments not necessarily legal arguments. That hurts them for any court, state level or the Supreme Court itself. Yes. A part of the Trump Legal Team, of course. Giuliani , who spoke earlier today, it sounds as though some of the claims they will try to make in the legal challenges is that their observers were not allow ed to watch the ballots being counted in some of these states. What are some of the other claims you imagine they are go ing to make as they try to challenge some of the counting that is going on in states around the country . The paycheck argument is this. If you dont have ballots you cant count the ballots. That is the basic legal argument they will make in jurisdiction after jurisdiction. That will challenge not just states, but county registrars. It will place an inordinate amount of pressure on them. When you see in wayne county with outstanding ballots and the registrar there being faced with a deluge of supporters of the president what dont want them to count the ballots that have not been counted, that is also a reflection of state law drafted by Republican Legislature that said you will not count ballots that have been cast and come in absentee ballot until you have counted the election day ballots, and that exactly the process set forth. They knew that was going to happen, but, nonetheless, you still have to count all the ballots cast. That is legally prescribed. That is a state by state, and really, county by county issue. The thing to watch over the next couple of days is we do this thing devolve into a different area or aspects of counties, does it become that over a state level or federal level jurisdiction in those battles. That is where we want to see how this moves forward. All right. We will wait to see how it plays out in the coming days here. Political science professor david mccewan from sonoma state, always appreciate you coming on. Thank you. Thank you very much. Well, as we have been talking about, pennsylvania still very much at play this afternoon. It, of course, is one of the most hotly contested states in the cycle. Right now as you heard, President Trump does old a slight lead, but there are a lot of mailin ballots still to be counted. Taking another look at the current numbers there in the state of pennsylvania, President Trump has a 51 lead compared to joe bidens 47 . We have more now from the Pennsylvania Convention center there in philadelphia where the vote count continues to happen at this hour. What is latest that you can tell us in regards to the ongoing vote tally . Reporter Officials Say that 97 of precincts have counted here in philadelphia. President trump is facing a lawsuit in pennsylvania with mailin ballots coming the three days after the election, but instead, focusing on what is coming in here at the Convention Center. 97 of the precincts have reported and the ballot counts continue. Even though Voting Machines can count up to 10,000 ballots per hour, opening them up, verifying signatures , folding them the right way for scan, etc. , is what takes the longest. Half of the ballots in the city were cast by mail and the other half at the precincts. Also, mail will continue to come in through this friday. So, back here live at the Convention Center we have been monitoring a live stream of the process happening inside. Officials say it is unlikely we will get any updates before this time tomorrow. In philadelphia, back to you. Still going to be at least a few more hour, if not a few more days before all the counting is completed there in pennsylvania. Really appreciate it. Thank you. We turn now to the battle for congress. Republicans have picked up four seats in the house of representatives. As it stands in order to now democrats will keep the house and nancy pelosi will remain at the house speaker, but there may be fewer democrats. We are still waiting on results on 44 seats in the house. Control of the u. S. Senate is still up for grabs. Here is the breakdown as it stands at this hour. The gop has 48 senate seats and democrats have 47 including two independence that caucus with them. Victories include republicans mcconnell and Lindsey Graham who beat democratic challenges who raised hundreds of millions of dollars. Democrat and former astronaut mark kelly also won in the election last night, flipping the seat in arizona. He is married to gabby giffords, the former congresswoman that survived an assassination attempt in 2011. A hotly contested race here in the bay area. A very fight race to determine who will become the next mayor of the city of vallejo. The City Council MemberRobert Mcconnell is leading over hakeem brown. Mcconnell is 41 . Brown is 38 . This race got a lot of attention last month flowing revelations brown had a criminal history including convictions for Domestic Abuse but, again, with 100 of the precincts reporting it looks like mcconnell will become the next mayor of the city of vallejo. We have full coverage of the Election Results on ktvu. Com. We are posting realtime results for local races. Californias propositions and county by county results in the race for president. It is all waiting for you there at ktvu. Com. Coming up here on the 4, we will get an update on the states response to covid19. What we are learning about the number of new cases statewide, and which bay area county is in jeopardy of moving backward in the state color tiered reopening system. Also, we are following some developing news in regards to the coronavirus and the 49ers. The team has now shut down their practice facility because of covid19. What we know about a possible outbreak and the impact on the teams game which is set for tomorrow. And the bay area weather, lots of sunshine today. Another parm day and no major changes tomorrow. But by friday we are expecting changes. A major cool down and possibly showers. More on the forecast coming up. We are seeing covid trends up here in california, but they are modest, steady, we are watching them closely and not the same as many of the states throughout the nation. As of today, california has more than 940,000 confirmed covid19 cases since the start of the pandemic and over 17,000 deaths related to the virus the San Francisco 49ers announced today that a player has now tested positive for covid19 the team is scheduled to play the packers tomorrow night at levi stadium. Now the latest developments, boy, another serious blow to the team , jason. Yes, the 49ers have been plagued, heather, by injuries all season long. Now the most recent setback in which the wide receiver kendrick borne tested positive for the coronavirus. It forced the 49ers to immediately shut shut down the practice facility at levis stadium. No players on the field there. Just the tent pavilions and exercise equipment used in outdoor workouts. As for bjorn who practiced with the team yesterday afternoon, number 84, his agent spoke with the san jose americary news and says he is doing fine, symptomfree and isolating at home. No other 49er players have tested positive for covid19. The team is doing Contact Tracing to identify if any other players need to quarantine, along with bjorn. You saw the players around him at practice yesterday. The 49ers have a game tomorrow night, which, you know, it is with the Green Bay Packers. As of right now it is a go. That would mean the injury and now coviddepleted 49ers will field the team without three of the top four wide receivers. I asked grant cohen of Sports Illustrated what the game plan may be. This may be what you have to do during covid times, play with what you have. I know trent taylor is second option that. Is where they are at. The packers boarded a flight about two hours ago bound for the area. They kickoff tomorrow at 5 15 at levis. Heather, we should say that two Green Bay Packers were not on that flight because they also tested positive earlier this week for covid19, so, the nfl is trying to manage this situation as best they can. There is a lot of money at stake. They want to play the game. They dont want to have to move it, but if more players end up testing positive or the Contact Tracing leads to information they dont like, they could change the game time and most likely what they have been doing, it could be a second monday night game. As of now that is not happening. Thursday night football tomorrow night on fox 2 is a go. Yes. Players en route. Jason appelbaum, thank you. We will see what happens. All right. The bay area weather, another sunny and warm day out there across the region. Kind of pleasant once again with a lot of 70s. Another nice day in the forecast for tomorrow, but then on friday, get ready. It wont be a gradual change. It will be an instant dropoff in numbers and we could be tracking a few more showers. Take a look at the maps. As you can see on satellite, clear skies up above, except for fog trying to regroup near portions of the coastline. We have fog closer to Half Moon Bay and the patchy fog will kind of ramp up in coverage a bit coastside and around the bay first thing tomorrow morning. It is warm in a few spots. Lower 80s in fairfield as livermore, san jose 73. Oakland 71. Santa rosa upper 70s and San Francisco in the mid60s. Here is a live camera this afternoon toward the golden gate bridge. There you can see the morin headlands there in the north by, the north bay hills. Fair sky, patchy fog to start out your thursday morning, especially coastside and around the bay. Coastside in the 40s to start out your thursday morning. There is the expected cloud pattern. Once again partly cloudy skies for the coastline. More sunshine inland, fairly mild. Warm spots approaching the low to mid80s. As we head to frizz you can see what is headed our way. We actually have a cool system. Temperatures on friday could be 10 to 20 degrees cooler, the possibility of a few scattered showers. I would not get too excited about significant rainfall from this system. Gusty winds, and we have the first winter storm watch in quite some time for the sierra. We will talk more about that in the full forecast, the full update coming up in just a few minutes. They are smart, professional and organized. It sounds like a good thing, right . Is in this case, though, not so much. Chaotic is the way to put it. On Election Night officers were rush from the call to call as bullets flew and burglars targeted cannabis businesses. A night of violence in east oakland had one common thread. Carloads of burglars targeting marijuana businesses. They are smart, professional and organized. Reporter this is an attorney representing the cannabis industry, saying the criminals took ahold of Election Night thinking cops would be focused elsewhere, but, instead, officers were on high alert. Police confronted men in one heist, opened fire, and injured at least one suspect. And a short while later two people were shot near 92nd and holly. Two security guards at a marijuana business were shot and wounded around 85th and baldwin about 11 15. As many as 50 cars were in front of the business as a group of people trying to break in. There was a lot of looting going on. Reporter and at the only good weed in fairfax burglars found a unique way to get inside. They drove the car through the front door, took all our cash, appliances Like Computers and inventory. Reporter and before midnight three men were shot and wounded in west oakland, drove to Childrens Hospital and transferred to highland hospital. The presence of police and security guards at cannabis businesses should serve as a warning. Hopefully they will realize it is not like the good old days where you broke in and took whatever you want and left and nobody bothered you and there was no resistance and no police response. That is done, over reporter Oakland Police are asking anyone with information in any of these incidents to give them a call. Reporting live, henry lee, ktvu fox 2 news. Obviously, henry, this seems like a really organized ring of criminals targeting these marijuana businesses in oakland. You get the sense that police have pretty decent information on exactly what is going on here. Does it feel like police are at a point where they may be able to break up this ring of criminals and stop these crimes in the future . Reporter yes, that is hope. You may recall during the earlier unrest during the National Reckoning of Police Misconduct during the earlier protests, we also had similar states of pot robberies. It is unclear whether opd has specific intel that they are told to be and on the lookout for additional cases this week. Sounds like it. Henry lee reporting live for us. Thank you we continue to follow the Election Results here in the bay area. Coming up next on the 4 00, what the approval of the hotly contested and very expensive proposition 22 means for gig and ride share workers. Plus, a big win for the yes on 7 team campaign. The package of this measure will now allow people on parole for felony convictions to vote after their state or federal prison term ends. We will speak live with one woman who will soon have her right to vote restored. Were all putting things off, especially in these times. But some things are too serious to be ignored. Head to crohnsandcolitis. Com the Trump Campaign is calling for a recount in the election. We know the democrats are pushing to count late ballots. Why are they pushing to count late ballots. They know and we know that if we count all legal ballots, we win. The president wins. Past recounts in Wisconsin Elections have changed the vote total by only a few hundred votes. Biden leads in that state by about 20,000 votes right now. The trump team is also suing over michigan and georgia. Now the Biden Campaign is closely watching nevada this afternoon. If biden can win the silver state, he would reach the 270 Electoral College vote mark. Speaking from delaware, biden called for all the votes to be counted. He said when they are, he believes he will be declared the winner in the Electoral College. He also pointed to his large lead in the popular vote of special significance to me is that we won with the majority of the american people. And every indication is that the majority will grow. We have a popular vote lead of nearly 3 million votes and every indication is that the will grow , as well. Indeed, senator harris and are on track to win more votes than any ticket in the history of this country three other states that are leaning President Trumps way are still too close to call. They are pennsylvania, North Carolina and georgia. The Trump Campaign filed a brief with the Supreme Court today to try to stop vote counting that is still ongoing in the state of pennsylvania. Back here in california, spending on this years statewide propositions totaled more than 760 million, the most expense measure in state history, prop 22, which passed last night by a double digit margin. The package means that they will be independent contractors as as opposed to fulltime employees. Claudine wong got reaction from people on both sides of the issue that talked about what is next and why the fight might not be over. Reporter the day after the election, there is both celebration and relief from supporters i feel great, but i also feel probably better for the people who depend on these services more than me as a part time driver. Reporter and frustration from the opposition. I am feeling more like we didnt lose today, democracy did had. Reporter the fight over prop 22 was both expensive and intense and will have a big impact on the people that work in this emerging industry. The door dash ceo and cofounder published a blog this morning saying now is the time to push forward, focused on better, permanent, Collaborative Solutions for millions of workers across the country. The package of prop 22 means the workers that drive for at base services will continue to be classified in california as independent contractors and not employees. That allows for some benefits and wage protection, but some proponents say it is not enough. We deserve unemployment insurance, workers comp and sick leave in the middle of a pandemic. I am happy we will get a medical stipend, mileage pay, benefits we didnt have. Really, what more could you ask for. Reporter in a post election statement, uber said soon drivers in california will be guaranteed a minimum earning standard of 120 of minimum wage and will gain access to important new benefits like health care, Accident Insurance and more. And in an email to uber driver, the company ceo said drivers will get information on enrollment in those benefits in the coming weeks. So, is this over . That is not clear. In my mind it settles it. They may have tried to fight it, but at this point the people have spoken. Even though i know it is a setback, it will not halt ed lumin , because there is too much at stake to stop him. Still, with 220 million spent on the proposition, if the fight continues, it is still unclear where the next battle may be. Claudine wong, ktvu fox 2 news. We are following several other ballot measures including proposition 15, one of two property tax measures that went before california voters that would raise property taxes on businesses with money going to schools and local governments. Lets take look now. Boy, this is still a really close race, split right down the middle. Moving on now to proposition 16. California voters have rejected an attempt to reinstate affirmative action programs, hiring, contracting and college admissions, keeping the 1996 ban on the government granting preferential treatment based on race and gender. Again, here is a look at proposition 16. As you can see there, voters rejected it by a decent margin now, we want to move on to proposition 17. Voters have approved this. This would allow people on parole for felony convictions to vote after their state or federal prison term ends. As you can see here, not much of a race. 61 of california voters wanted to approve this proposition. Joining us to talk more about the restoration of Voting Rights to felons on parole is San Francisco native veronica. You were formally incarcerated. How do you feel about this being restored in. I feel amazing. Words cannot describe how happy i am that we won. It is a huge victory go ahead. I was just going to say that winning prop 17 last night, you know, we restored the Voting Rights for over 50,000 people and it is unbelievable yes, so talk a little bit about what it was like to sit out this election when you know so much is as stake, a president ial race, a lot of propositions on the ballot that i am sure you wanted your voice heard in. What was it like to not really get a chance to be involved in this election . Well, i did expect a victory , so i was excited, nonetheless. However, for me being a formally incarcerated individual, incarcerated at the age of 16 and losing the right to vote before i even had the right to vote, it was very difficult. However , at this moment i am proud. You know, california showed up and showed out and we won by a huge margin, so it although it was very difficult time, it was also a very exciting time, as well yes, and especially to work on a Campaign Like this and see it come out victorious. How do you think this might affect people . Do you think it will sorry present people from reoffending , this ability to vote once again . Yes. I say yes because when people feel that they are valued members of their community, and that their voices matter, and that their concerns are addressed, they are less likely to reengage in criminal activity. Evidence shows that people who are able to become civically engaged in their communities after they are released are three times more likely to never be arrested again, so my answer is yes, absolutely. Thank you again for coming on to talk about this. As you mentioned, about 50,000 people will be added to the voting roles here in california. We will have to see how those additional voices will affect future elections. Veronica, we appreciate it. Thank you. On the 4 00, hurricane eta leaves behind catastrophic damage and now florida falls into the kent. And in the bay area weather, lots of clear skies in the upper estuary, San Francisco. Reporter eta slammed into Central America as one of the regions most powerful hurricanes in years. The storm made landfall on nicaraguas northern coast as a category 4 hurricane tuesday afternoon bringing life threatening storm surge, flash flooding and catastrophic winds. The storm came as a surprise to much of honduras and northern nicaragua, tripling in strength in just 24 hours. This was sudden and we werent expecting it. The water levels of the river started to rise even though it barely rained here. Reporter natural disasters typically cause devastation to nicaraguas poorest region and this storm was no exception. Most people there live in wooden homes with little chance to withstand Hurricane Force winds. It came ashore with sustained winds up to 140 miles per hour, ripping off roofs, tearing down trees and downing power lines. We dont have power here. We dont even have a radio of how to inform ourselves about this. All of us here have been can caught by surprise. Reporter the winds are expected to weaken as the storm moves inland, but heavy rain and flooding could continue into the coming days, despite the forboding forecast, crews are getting ready for the clean up. The brigades are ready for the clean up in the streets but are waiting a little longer until the storm passes a little further into our territory or a eta brings the Hurricane Season tying the single record for most named storms. And here is latest in weakening of the storm now. As we come in closer, we are talking about a tropical depression as this system continues to weaken. There is the satellite imagery over the past few hours. We are coming in closer with the latest information. Winds moving about 7 miles per hour. This is an interesting track here as you can see it curve and make the approach to florida, possibly into some time sunday and monday. We are watching out for this. It would restrengthen to be a Tropical Storm status. Something to be watching closely over the next few days with eta. Back here in the bay area, cooler weather pattern not for tomorrow, but as we head toward friday, a much cooler system coming in, it might be kind of a shock to you as we head into the friday forecast. Major cooling. This is not a significant soaking rain producer, but, still, the possibility of a few scattered showers, probably the two biggest changes are probably the cooldown and the gusty winds for friday and into the weekend. Then to east of the bay area, this will be a snow producer in the sierra. We will have a winter storm watch coming up in a little bit. Rainfall expectations through friday morning. Not too much. Maybe some sprinkles, but the numbs could go up a bit. We where not talking about a few sprinkles here or an extreme soaker, but most areas could be a few hundredths of an inch or on either side of a tenth of an inch. Satellite today showing patchy fog offshore. A little more on shore breeze will transport the fog back into the bay for the overnight hours. Here is the timing here, patches already moving over portions of San Francisco, closer to the presidio. It is warm away from the fog. Santa rosa is 78 degrees. Lots of 60 and 70s. Even livermore checking in at 80 degrees. Patchy fog over the bay. Hazy sunshine for the rest of the region. Partly sunny skies for the beaches. Upper 60s all the way to 80s. In general i guess we can call tomorrow warm, but the cool end of the forecast is this guy locked up here to the north. This will be the main factor into friday. For thursday, patchy morning fog, still warm inland. Then this moves in on friday. Temperatures drop a good 10 to 20 degrees with the possibility still of scattered showers. Winds accelerating over 30, maybe approaching 40 miles per hour, and something i will be watching because it is not an offshore wind event, but any time you get wind this time of year, it would boost the fire danger. It is something we will be watching closely. Thankfully it is not a dry wind, just more wind coming in from the pacific. The sierra forecast, we have this, snowfall to talk about and a winter storm watch for the west slopes of the sierra. Amounts could be on the order of 3 to 8 inches. Maybe a few spots could be approaching a foot for the higher peaks. This is friday morning through sunday morning. Hard to believe we could be talking about chain controls over 50 or i80 friday and into the weekend. For tomorrow, though, it is carry. Frizz there are scattered showers popping up in the bay area. This is for your friday. Then into saturday, probably a suncloud mix with a slight chance of a shower as we head into sunday. Highs for tomato, 60s coastside, 70s around the bay , warm spots inland in the 80s. A look ahead, if you like the warm temperatures, make the most of tomorrow. A shower chance into friday and a major dropoff in the numbers, coming down about 20 degrees, so the chill will be approaching the bay area by friday. All right. Thank you. The two alarm fire quickly upped to three after a fire jumped to three nearby homes. One neighbor jumped out to bed to the sound of silence and screams. I was asleep in bed and heard children screaming and adults yelling. I wasnt sure if they were having fun, but i could tell it was terror in their voices. I jumped out of bed, looked out the window and there were flames shooting in the sky like crazy. Reporter despite the intense flames everyone was able to get out safely. In the Daylight Hours you can see the aftermath. Two homes suffering major damage, the other two smoke and water issues. It was such an intense fire fight initially, one San Francisco firefighters had to be treated for extreme fatigue. At this time we have one firefighter that suffered exhaustion. We are treating him aggressively to make sure his condition doesnt progress further and he is able to rehab in a rehab location and will be okay. Reporter solar panels made it more difficult to fully extinguish the fire, not to mention the close proximity of the homes. I mean, the homes are right next to each other, but that is crazy. I heard about fires and damage before, but to see a house like this go up, it with us nuts, very scary.
