This woman was out for a walk and saw a car that looked like it had struck a tree. Was a and the guy in the car looked like he was asleep. Reporter she called police dispatch. Two officers showed up. She said they went to wake up the driver. Both were standing on the drivers side. I heard them keep saying put the car in park. Put the car if park. And i was behind the car, and i could see the reverse lights go on and off, on and off. As they checked on his well being to see if he needed any medical attention, the driver started to wake up. Quickly put the car in reverse, knocking both officers down. All of a sudden the guy was reversed and dragged the officers for a little bit. One of them was caught by the vehicle and was dragged about 10 to 15 feet. He was not run over, but he certainly was dragged. I was really scared for them. Reporter police say the driver then sped off on to interstate 980. Investigators are looking for him and his car, a light colored suv. The best thing to do is for the driver to turn himself in. But hovering over this case is one deeply concerning question. On sunday, a gunman opened fire on two Los Angeles County sheriffs deputies who were sitting in their car. They survived the surprise attack. Now Oakland Police say they wonder if the driver was simply trying to escape the officers recklessly, or was he intentionally trying to hurt them. Were checking out this run of bad air quality. Were looking back. Right now, its real good out there compared to where its been. But look at this august. Late august, started on the 18th, these spare the air alerts, and theyve run all the way through the 16th. So it has definitely been a run, a 30day stretch thus far. So thats record territory. The current air quality, just see a lot of green there, and thats what you want to see. The air quality got a little goose from that southwest wind we talked about a lot of, and a little bit at the surface. Tomorrow should be a little better still, and you dont need the numbers to just look out there and say, yeah, the air quality is good. But as i said last night, look up in this area. There is still smoke. Why there still smoke . Because these are record setting fires all over the western United States, so this smoke is going be to around. Its going to be around for a while. Like even though we get a couple of nice days here and there, as we get into saturday and sunday, if the winds shift a little bit, that smoke was going to come back our way. Right . Except it wont be at the levels was before. So you hear people saying theres going to be smoke back in the forecast . Yeah, there is, because theres so much of it, but it would be at a Higher Elevation most likely, and it would be much more diffuse. Were not dealing wet these current fires raging out of control, so there is not that much being put back in the atmosphere. Plus what is there now is not spread out. So dont pan pick people say theres more smoke coming this weekend. There could be a little more smoke. So the plan for tomorrow will be a little bit cooler, better air quality, which i think everyone is completely onboard with. As you look at this shot, the visibility, you see the fog coming in underneath the camera there. A lot of fog at the beach and on highway 1, the visibilities are really, really poor right now. Theyre getting very low. Thats because the fog is compressed. So when we come back, were going to take a look at sally. She is now a tropical storm, and well take a look at your forecast. The russ for the white house kicking into high fear now with just about a month and a half left for election day. President trump and former Vice President joe biden working with their v. P. Candidates to get their messages out. Brian joins us. Lets get right into it and start with this. Last night President Trump departing that town hall in philadelphia and faced tough questions about race relations, the coronavirus. He can usually spark with reporters in this situation, but couldnt with these voters. How do you think he did . Well, i basically think that he stuck to the party line. He gave the answers that hes been giving right along. For example, he was asked by one voter, a black voter, and by the way, these were supposed to be voters who were undecided, about the feeling that for a lot of black americans, how do you make America Great again in america wasnt great before with respect to race relations, and trump talked a lot about the economy, and how before the pandemic it was great, and black americans were doing really well under the old economy. So basically thing, andre, the answer to your question, he parried pretty well by really falling back on his stump speeches. I would offer that some critics took him to task, the washington post, for example, gave him four pinocchios for telling the truth, but i think he thought he did well. He didnt really deviate much from, as you said, from what he has said in the past. These were undecided voters, but did you think that any of these undecided voters had their minds changed by how the president performed last night . Well, these forums dont really lend themselves to changing minds a lot. The person who is in the forum comes out, gives their same speech. Theyre pretty well prepped on what the questions will. The voters, won wonders sometimes whether theyre undecide at all, sometimes they can be pretty aggressive in their questioning, and pretty rehearsed, quite frankly, the answer to the question is not the individual voters who were in the audience last night, but maybe the people watching had their minds change expected this is in a state in pennsylvania that the president won by 46 million votes by less than 1 . Yeah, one of those important swing states. So the f the forecasts in the audience might not have had their minds changed, who do you think might have had their minds changed to people who were watching this town hall meeting . Well, i can tell you, he probably thought he was changing the minds of the voters and there arent many anymore, andre, in the middle, who are trying to decide whether theyre going to vote for the incumbent president , or for the challenger, and at the end of the day, the president is going to continue to appear everyone. His energy level in 2020 is the same as 2016. Hes everywhere, and that will count for something. You mentioned the black man who had a question for President Trump about making America Great and why does he think does he think america had ever been great for african americans. When they watch this, did he get to the substance of questions like this and the coronavirus enough to convince people that he is going to be on top of these issues in the future . Really good question. We dont know. The questioner was right on point where i think a lot of black americans, who feel like they have been disenfranchised and arent part of the system. I think trump obviously went back to the economic argument, which he does frequently. I think he skirted whether weve made any Real Progress in race relations, but that will touch some people in the right way, talking about the economy and that sort of thing, and others will just say, heir, more of the same, and by the way, that black questioner said this was a situation that had gone back through obama, bush, and clinton, its so not something new to that voter. Yeah, this is not a new issue. Brian, thank you for your insight today. Absolutely. Coming up, we are learning more details about the timeline for the distribution of a covid 19 vaccine. The head of the cdc said he expects most americans wont be able to get the covid19 vaccine until next spring or summer. Tom vacar joins us now with more. Todays hearing was really about the vaccines under development and how to get one that is well actually going to fight covid19, but even when we get there, the cdc direct said that masks actually guarantee more protection than even a highly effective vaccine. These face masks are the most important Public Health tool we have. We have Clear Scientific evidence they work, and they are our best defense. Uniform of pittsburgh say in animal tests there is an ant body thats have has been dropped that could be available as early as next year. Its one of the most potent antibodies thats been described and appears to to be safe. Reporter in the united kingdom, late stage trials for a vaccine have resumed after a test subject became ill but recovered. But the u. S. Hasnt agreed yet to resume. Reporter testing in germany and the netherlands continue with johnson and johnson, though they have stopped in the u. S. It will take a while to distribute enough vaccine to deliver the vaccine. Reporter the health and Union Services and department departments released a vaccine distribute Distribution Plan that outlines working with state and local partners to communicate the availability of free vaccines under emergency use authorizations and to administer those vaccines that are proven to be safe, effective, and closely monitored. The 57page playbook said the doses may be made available as early as november to a limited group of people. Decisions about who will be vaccinated first will be made later, but eventually ramping up supply next year to reach any american who wants the free vaccines administered in two doses, three to four weeks apart. The first group to get them would be the First Responders, for example, or people very high risk of dying, like elderly people in congregate settings. Probably the military. So that would be the first rollout. Reporter the cdc has boldly said life should return to normal this time next year. I think this time next year, next september, 2021, theres an awful lot of americans who are still going to number line forgetting the vaccine. He doctor said that russian and chinese vaccines are being administered to citizens right now, but they have not been proven safe to use, and if they go wrong, we are likely never going to hear about right . In a preeving this afternoon, President Trump contradicted the cdc directors testimony on how quickly a vaccine could be distributed and the effectiveness of the masks. And i called him about it. Those were the two things i discussed with him. And i believe that if you ask him, he would probably say that he didnt understand the question. President trump said he does not think masks as effective as a vaccine, and that he believes a vaccine will be ready as soon as next month for the general public. He also confirmed reports that a person at the white house has contracted coronavirus, but would not provide any further details. Democratic president ial nominee joe biden said hissed inning is that a vaccine wont be widely available until next year and accused the president of politicizing the issue. So let me be clear, i trust vaccines, i trust scientists, but i dont trust donald trump, and at this moment, the American People cant either. Biden said he would take a vaccine tomorrow if it were available. He added that the vaccine approval process should be quote totally transparent and be evaluated by a board of scientists. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she will Keep Congress in session or the house, rather, in session, until lawmakers deliver another round of covid 19 relief. I mean, weve got a much better air quality, which i know youve noticed. Theres no way you cant notice it. As we head into tomorrow, even better air quality for the most part, and then i think it holds good for a while, but like i said earlier, theres so much smoke out there. Right . Theres just so much smoke that just the western United States that any wind shift coming from the north, the east, the south, is going to blow the smoke back at us. But the upshot to all of this, theres a heck of a lot less smoke. Its not going to come in like it came in this week, or last week, with all of those high, high air Quality Counts in the purples. Its going to be much more diffuse, and a little higher, and better. So when you hear reports of smoke coming back this week, dont freak out. It should not be anything like weve been seeing. Maybe Something Like this. So yellow looks good, green looks good. Thats tomorrows forecast. These are the temperatures you can see here that look pretty nice for tomorrow, as we get going forward. Youre going to see temperatures cooler tomorrow than they were today, and its a pretty nice day, and it will be cooler tomorrow, and just for that low Pressure Center offshore, that low Pressure Center gets close to us and it just pushes the smoke away, which is what its done. It might provide us with a little bit of drizzle quite frankly along the coast, which would be fine. And as we head towards the weekend, temperatures stay mild. So the first thing to notice, were not dealing with high fire danger stuff. Were not seeing a dynamic weather pattern, so thats good. And then secondly the smoke problem is pretty much been greatly reduced. It will increase a little bit on saturday night into sunday, the smoke, but i suggest it will be higher, more diffuse, and shouldnt be noxious, as it has been. So thats the fiveday forecast, andre. Much better. Much nicer to see some blue sky. Thank you, bill. Weve been asking veers to help us thank firefighters and other First Responders, and were getting a lot of signs of support.
