After 30 inches of rain in the forecast with four Southern States already declaring an emergency. Landfall is expected in the next 6 to 7 hours and the big concerns tonight are flooding and potentially life threatening storm surge. But the storm, as he said, is pushing to the east. That means some folks are going to be released. Others are now going to be in harms way. Waves pick up along the gulf coast as Hurricane Sally inches closer. The storm is packing 85 mile perhour winds, threatening Southeast Louisiana to the florida panhandle. With devastating storm surge and potentially deadly flooding. Sally is expected to make landfall by wednesday morning near the alabamaMississippi State line. Hurricane sally is not to be taken for granted. With rising water comes a greater risk for loss of property in life. Reporter some coastal areas saw flooding tuesday afternoon as sally moved closer. The storm is expected to move slowly, chopping up to 30 inches of rain in some areas and increasing the risk for flash flooding, even tornadoes further inland. People across the gulf coast filled sandbags and gas tanks ahead of sals arrival. The storm has moved further east, sparing new orleans from the worst. City officials are shifting focus to help neighboring states. When we see we are out of the cone we immediately shift our neighbors inside of the cone. That is alabama and mississippi. We are in constant communication. Reporter the storm is moving so slowly that the south end, as far as the carolinas, folks there could see more rain, heavy rain. Even the possibility of tornadoes for the remainder of this week. Now to chief meteorologist bill martin who is tracking sallys strength in location. Job down to a category two, that will drop back down when one before it makes landfall. This thing is barely managing. Lets say its 15 miles offshore. Itll take four hours, at least, of rain before this eye wall gets on shore. At the walking speed thing. This thing is barely moving. With the rainfall accumulation showing up heavily in these really bright bans you will see 25 to 35 inches of rain. That causes big problems in an area already at sea level. Is a hurricane, 100 mile an hour winds moving north northeast at two miles an hour. That means that thing is going to Stay Together longer than we would like. The storm surge is going to be there. It drops to a category one, maybe six feet of storm surge on top of the high side. And a lot of rain, it doesnt end down there. Here in california we have wildfires to worry about. Today cal fire lifted more evacuation orders for the fire burning in butte and plumas countys. North complex fire has brent 273,000 acres and is 34 contained. The west zone of that fire that burned butte county is 25 contained. No more fatalities were reported. 15 people have died in the west zone of the fire. There was positive news as Authorities Say the number of missing is down to two people. Cal fire says the wildfire has destroyed nearly 500 homes. Containment is growing for some of the other huge wildfires in california. The august complex inis 30 contained. And has brent 1200 square miles, nearly an area nearly the size of Santa Clara County. Down in Southern California and our firefighters carried on a controlled burn in the San Gabriel Mountains today to protect the historic mount wilson observatory. The bobcat fire has become within 500 feet of the observatory but so far the centuriesold building has been saved. Crews are working to protect valuable Communications Towers east of pasadena and it is 6 contained. California senator and Vice President ial candidate Kamala Harris was in fresno today to learn about the devastating wildfires. The acting police chief says the department recognizes there are things it can do to maintain crowd control tactics and safety for their officers. A settlement has been reached between the family of Breonna Taylor in the city of louisville, kentucky in a wrongful death lawsuit. That includes a 12 million payment and police reforms. Breonna taylor was shot and killed by Police Serving a no knock warrant in the middle of the night last march. The officers entered her apartment and fired their guns blindly. Her mother says she is still seeking justice for her daughter. As significant as today is, it is only the beginning of getting full justice for breanna. The plan lists funds to help the postal service, agriculture, school and childcare providers and election in. But 500 billion for state and local governments might be a dealbreaker. Theres a lot of help for state and local governments in this. The question is whether Mitch Mcconnell will go for that.
