But now i want you to notice up in the righthand corner of your screen, out in nevada, watch that area start to see its coming in thats your northeast wind, and see it filling in overnight . Higher elevations. And look at the north bay, the contours making for the strongest wind gusts, up to 50 miles an hour possible into the morning on tuesday. And then the winds back down a little bit. So the height of this event, red flag warning, and spare the air alert again tomorrow, and the heat advisory due to be dropped tonight. Thank you, bill. That adds up to possible powerrages whether because of rolling Power Outages or because of high five danger. We could see Public Safety power shutoffs by late tonight to avoid electricitycaused wildfires due though this the current red flag warning, dryness, and high winds. 21 counties have been advised of a possible power shutoff because of these extreme fire conditions our meteorologists tracking. Reporter deputy cal fire chef jonathan cox said heat and wind favor fires, not firefighters. Its really a twopronged onetwo punch for us, because it reduce our ability to stop these fires. Reporter at the moment, the bay areas biggest problem remains intense relentless heat taxing the power grid. All utilities on the grid are obligated to conduct rolling outages on just 10 minutes notice if ordered to do so by grid operators to prevent an overall grid collapse. With these recordbreaking temperatures, tripledigit heat, demand goes up. More people are using their fans. More people are use their air conditioners. Reporter even without mandated outages, a lot of equipment is operating at capacity, especially transformers. Some of which will fail, causing local outages without notice. And the equipment just does not have time to cool down. So we want our customers to be prepared for possible heat related Power Outages. Worse, those fires could be kicked up again by coming high winds. Over the next 24 to 48 hours just means were going to be chasing interior pockets that may be burning, stumps that may ignite because of the wind coming back on the fire. Thousands of firefighters have been battling the three complex fires in the bay area. The lnu complex in the north bay has burned more than 375,000 acres, and is now 91 contained. The czu complex in the Santa Cruz Mountains is 76 contained. And the largest fire, the scu complex in the east and south bay has now burned more than 396,000 acres, and is 93 contained. 7 people have died from the fires, and more than 3,000 structures have been destroyed. Many of them homes. Evacuations are underway in Mendocino County tonight after a fire broke out this afternoon. The oak fire started around 12 15 north of willettes. So far the fires have destroyed at least one structure. The Sheriffs Office said Evacuation Orders have bin issued for the Rural Communities near willettes and caballo. In San Bernardino county, the el dorado fire is still burning out of control. It was started during a gender reveal party. A pyrotechnic device set off at a family party was supposed to reveal blue or pink smoke. Instead, it set off a fire that is now threatening homes and forcing evacuations. Yeah, it has been hot, records. Yesterday a ton of records yesterday. Records today, oakland downtown, 96 degrees. That breaks the record of 93 degrees, set in 1957. Well get to the records at 6 00. But i kind of want to show you. I think the headline really tonight going to be the red flag warning. We have the heat advisory, that will probably get dropped. We have the spare the air day extended into tomorrow. Well see some records. But this red flag warning is going to be produced by these winds, and these winds, this is the forecast now for tomorrow morning, tuesday morning. Very, very early. And thats when the winds will be the strongest, and know where they are. Thats in the north bay. See the purpose until thats the north bay. The north bay hills. See the Santa Cruz Mountains . Those are the areas that will get hit the hardest. Watch when that wind event dies down. It doesnt appear to be a very long lived event, but its important. Many states are seeing teachers take leave absence or opt to retire. The reasons include health and safety concerns and childcare issues. Here in california, 80 of the School Districts in the state are experiencing shortages of teachers. New york state has seen a 20 jump in retirements this summer compared to last year. One town in new jersey was forced to go all Remote Learning after 250 of their teachers requested a leave of absence. In brentwood today, a driver at an apartment complex apparently hit the gas pedal by accident and pushed another car into a first floor patio on shady willow lane, at about 10 15 this morning. Thankfully no one was hurt. The woman who lives in that apartment said she often sits on the patio, but wasnt there at the time of the crash. A side show in San Francisco soon led to a Homicide Investigation when officers found three victims who had been shot in the car. One of them died. Traffic was slow on the Golden Gate Bridge for part of the day as demonstrators gathered a black lives matter labor day protest on the bridge. The group known as wall of many black lives matter formed a wall across the span. Their protest remained pieceful today and no other issues other than slowing down traffic on the breech bridge. In portland, more than 50 people were arrested this weekend after protesting with police among violent and fiery demonstration as the unrest continues in that city. At least one person caught fire when he allegedly tried to throw a molotov cocktail. Others were seen throwing rocks and firebombs at police. Officers responded with tear gas. This marks more than 100 consecutive nights of protests in portland. The unrest there erupted back in may following the Police Shooting and killing of george floyd in minneapolis. The white house is threatening to withhold federal funding from California Public School Physician they incorporate the New York Times 1619 project into their curriculums. All of the Evacuation Orders from the complex fires in lake, sonoma, and napa counties have been lifted. But as will be roth shows us, some are returning to find their homes and businesses in ruins. In the Russian River town in sonoma county, disaster averted. The walbridge fire came close, but didnt make it into town. After 12 days of because underrers from the hsn fire complex, they were able to reopen the popular roadhouse. When they left ahead of the fastmoving fire, they thought they might never see it again.
