Christien kafton has the latest. You know when you talk about Labor Day Weekend, it brings to mind parties and barbecues with family and friends. This weekend, though, Health Experts are warning people to tone it down and follow those Health Safety guidelines. Labor day is typically marked with good food and family get togethers. So what were asking people to do is to just make sure that youre using good judgment. So if you go to dolores spark you see that its crowded, and theres really no place for you to be with your crew of people, and maintain your distance and your mask and so on and so forth, why even step foot in that park . Yeah, everyone just needs to be responsible. Cristina, thank you. New stud confirm that story identifieds can help reduce the risk of dying from the coronavirus. Doctors ared from the give steroids to critically ill coronavirus patients as a result of the new evidence. Researchers also say that the results from the study are an important step forward in the treatment of coronavirus patients. Lets talk more about this study now with a doctor. Thank you for joining us. What is your reaction to this . Could these steroids be a game changer for correctly ill patients . So first, its a big deal. Its a big deal because we find that steroids, which has been around for a very long time and we use them for a lot of medical diseases, can actually help with covid, and anytime that we find a drug, especially if a case like this, in a pandemic, where we are scrambling to find anything to help patients and increase survival, this is a big deal, because theyre doing exactly that. In practical terms, how soon could it be that this is implemented to help critically ill patients near the United States . The answer to that would be no. Weve had steroids in medicine for a very long time, but i want to clarify, frank, this has been brimmed w. H. O. For critically ill patients. Please remember that. Because its not for anyone else. Its not been indicated for very mild casors preventive measures. The cdc is telling Public Health officials around the United States to prepare to distribute a potential Coronavirus Vaccine as soon as late october according to a report. There are three potential vaccines under phase three trials here in the United States. Do you think it possible we could have a vaccine approved by late october and then the obvious question that has to be asked is are you worried that vaccine approve might be rushed because of the election in early november. Well, frank, the cdc distributed these document it is all 50 states early today. It has a part a and part b. End it doesnt mention coronavirus anywhere in the documents, so there is speculationlation that it isnt lewding to the fact there there may be a vaccine available. There is, its great, but i just hope its a safe one, because we just entered phase 3. Now im going to put is this way, frank, i hope that politics isnt put above science, and i hope that politics ultimately isnt put ahead of saving lives. This weekend is Labor Day Weekend. There are strong warnings for people to make sure they socially distance and go dont go to large gathers. Dr. Anthony fauci said we saw it after the 4th of july and memorial day, a surge in classes. Wear mask, keep social distancing, avoid crowds. You want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. I would imagine you agree 100 with dr. Fauci. Actually frank, i cycle agree a million . [ laughter ] this is something we need to keep in mind. The 0 only way to help stop the spread is by not enfamilying in activities that can increase the risk of coronavirus spread. And its very important like the mayor mentioned earlier in the newscast. If you see yourself in a position or a place where your position is going to be come blow mised and youre not going to be able to keep that distance within just leave. Theres no point putting yourself at risk, and ultimately putting other people at risk. And always remember to mask, keep six feet apart, wash your hands, and this is a collective effort. We have to be in this together so we can protect ourselves in the people around us. Couldnt agree more. Dr. , thank you, azollas, for taking time talk with us. Appreciate. Thanks, frank. It and definitely going to be a warm weekend. Weve talked about that. A heat advisory will be in place for some of the inland values. It warms up a bit wednesday and thursday. Knight massive heatup in terms of tomorrow and friday, but by the time we get to saturday and sunday, items are back into the upper 90s, low 100s, with that heat advisory being in places like concord. Point richmond, youll be left out, and areas round the edges of the bay, but mountain view, youll be included, as well. Site going to be pretty hot on the weekend. Maybe a couple of records. The hell heat is going to end up in the north valley up around redding and chico, they could break some are records up there. We could brick a record, as well, but the plan is for the smoke poor air quality to linger certainly through thursday, through tomorrow. That has continued that advisory, has continued to be extended. Were going to drop it a week ago, on of sunday and wednesday, and now thursday, and i think they may have to keep it going right through friday and saturday, just because those fires, that smoke, the prevailing winds want to pick that up. So a lot of times you go why does this happen with all fires . A lot of times our fires are up around redding, or modesto, or the valley, so the sea breeze pushes them away, right . But these fires are kind of in the path of our breezes, our northwest and southwest wind, santa cruz southwest, point ray northwest. So when those winds come in, were getting smoke. Its worse in the morning. We were down to the 150 range a couple of days ago. You can see its down to 74, so heather, air quality is Getting Better slowly but surely. Its a spare the air alert tomorrow, and potentially beyond that. Heat for the weekend. Yeah, i definitely noticed things a little clearer here in San Francisco, but as you mentioned, its going to be a day by day process. All right, thank you. Berkeleys Business School economistist professor borenstine specializes in airlines and energy and said having the government keep the industry at full size would be brutally expensive. At some point, we have to make the decision of when do we let the market decide how big this industry going to be. Reporter today about 30 of all u. S. Airliners are idle and ground. Precovid passenger volumes are not likely to return until 2024. Demand is not going to come back quickly. Reporter that long return to precovid levels gives what is left of the industry time to read build, based on economic reality, and some airlines may perish. The industry is going to have to adapt to whatever the new normal is, for the way people travel. Reporter but airlines will still have to compete.
