Hours ago. Firefighters had a chance to go into some of the damage from the fire in santa cruz and san mateo counties yesterday. They have confirmed 440 buildings have been destroyed, including 320 homes. On the northern end of the fire in San Mateo County, it is not spreading. That is good news. Firefighters say they are very confident that the fire will not spread toward Santa Clara County, where evacuation warnings had been issued earlier in the week. There are new Evacuation Orders or warnings foot and the counties involved. Near bonnie doon and Boulder Creek, there is a fire that is actively burning. Crews are going into do Damage Assessment, and repair some of the power lines and the infrastructure. That way, eventually people will be able to return home. It is stressful. We are staying at an Extended Stay Hotel with only six other dogs and a cat. 77,000 people were forced to evacuate because of the fire. They cannot return home yet, but they are very anxious to do so. The Santa Cruz CountySheriffs Office said that two people that were reported missing have been found safe. There are still five people who lived in the evacuated areas of Santa Cruz County that are unaccounted for. Says detectives are looking for them. As we report, the fire claimed the life of a man who was fleeing his home as the fire had approached. Any minute now, calfire will give us an update on what had happened with this fire. We are expecting the feeding to begin shortly. When it does, we will bring it to you live, on mornings on fox 2. Reporting live, allie rasmus, mornings on fox 2. More help is on the way to battle the lnu complex fire. 250 National Guard members will arrive in the next few days, and they will join the 2200 firefighting personnel are currently on the front lines. The fires have destroyed or damaged at 1200 homes, and out holdings, earning nearly 50 all right sorry, lets stop right here and go to the live news conference, and get an update. Turnoff telephones, take any conversations away from the press conference area. We ask that you keep your mascot at all times during the press conference. We will have a moment at the end for you to ask questions of the representatives appear as well as time for oneonone conversations after the conference is over. A quick update this morning for the 6 00 numbers, the lightning complex is now 8137 acres in size. We are staying at 19 percent containment. There are still 24,000 structures that are threatened by the incident. Unfortunately, we can confirm that there are now 538 structures that have been destroyed in this fire. 11 of which are in san mateo there is a website, as chief deputy clerk mentioned, the Santa Cruz County ha showing pe what the addresses are online. As of this morning, 1697 personnel are assigned to the incident. For an overview and update on what the operation that is going on out in the field, calfire section chief mark burton. Good morning. The past couple of days, we have been able to make significant progress on the firefight. We have been able to establish more lines and improve the lines that we have established. We are getting another day closer to extinguishing this fire. As you can see, on the map we have some black lines. They signify that the fire is extinguished, and we are holding it. We have lines established around it. We feel very confident that that area has been secured. That is what we call the fish and cough. It is an area that is critical, so that if we had spread to the northeast, threatening Santa Clara County, we have buttoned that up. That is a patrol. Moving along the northern zone, again, we have some flame on the ridge. We have lines established as you can see on the map. We are letting that fire creeped out as part of our strategy so that we can get an and fcix thing was that fire. I anticipate within the next few days, with the weather that we are expecting that we should be successful in that endeavor and put some black lines on the map. Moving down, if we can continue with some full extinguishment of the fire throughout the western portion. The community of davenport. We are looking at, with the infrastructure, looking at reenergizing that with power today, hopefully soon. Again, lines are being held above the community, and taking advantage of the weather in order to start the full extinguishment of any sort of fire that is sitting above the community. Down to the south, again, the control line sold to the south, as well as the secondary line, so, we have a really good amount of protection for the community of santa cruz, and the uc campus. Moving up the quarter, which has been a challenge for us, with the communities of davenport, and over here, we have been able to get market control lines that are up above, on the fire. We are continuing to work and improve this. We have good line, we are blackening the line in a sting watching the fire above a good portion of felton. Todays operation has been critical. They have been working on this for the past two days, really, and what we have a plan on doing is later this afternoon and early in the evening we will have lines that are constructed with preparations and place to do a burn operation, which will bring the fire up to the fire that is at the ridge top area and it will eliminate that issue, and what it will do is create a very nice barrier, for the community of felton. It will but not that part of the fire by felton. That is excellent news. It will take a couple days, but once we do that we warm up. We will take out the hotspots and to render that safe and get the Utility Companies and there to do their job. As we finish that, will be moving towards ben loman and that line will come to the south. That line will protect the bottom of ben loman as we progress. Up above that area and into Boulder Creek we continue to work diligently up there. We had a lot of resources about the border creek, fromr allied they are working diligently. It is very difficult terrain. There working among a number of structures. Will have success in the coming days and we are looking at trying to get this completed like we are in the other communities. We are marching north and preparing as we go ahead of time, with many of the operations, and the strategy. Bonnie dune is looking really good. A lot of homes are there. We are working around the homes and getting the control lines put in. The big thing is opening the roads into the interior of the fire, with all the trees that have come down the power lines and so forth, we have been able to establish a group that is gone in, since yesterday and getting deep into the road systems. Some are more work than others. The group is working and doing that, we are working with county rats and a variety of other agencies to get in and once we get in, we render it safe and get the Utility Companies and behind us so that they can start repairing and putting back the infrastructure. We are doing the same thing on highway 236, doing the same operation. We can start opening that and get interior open to other areas. Once the Damage Inspection Team can get in, they can do their job so that we can get that taken care of as well. It is a multifaceted effort as part of the extinguishing process. From our air program, the air is looking favorable with the weather. We will be flying our aircraft. The past few days we have talked about the amount of hours we could fly and our aircraft. Every day we dropped more and more water. As of yesterday, there were 256,000 gallons of water dropped in one day. That is significant. We timeout the aircraft that is significant. Every day we see more and more and the support of Ground Troops that are taking care of hotspots and so forth. Our helicopters have dropped 1. 6 million gallons of water since the beginning of this event. We are using all of the tools that we have available to us, in order to work on a sting watching the fire and getting everybodys li normal. Thank you. Speaking next, is chief deputy chris clark. Good morning, in terms of positive news, continuing with the theme of not a lot of people running around. The same situation last night, thankfully, as there was the night before. Again, our third operation without an arrest. Last night we had no citations. We are seeing a lot of people that are really doing what we are asking them to do and staying out of the areas, as you just heard the chief mentioned, we are getting the resources and to prepare the roads and prepare powerlines and things like that which are pieces of the plan in order to repopulate those areas and make sure that that happens quickly. As i mentioned, at the last press conference, 56 officers were running around last night and making sure that everything is safe. We will continue that today with 70 deputies, 30 of them from our agency, 20 from inside the county with the allied partners from different agencies inside Santa Cruz County. Mutual aid from over the hill. Last night we responded to 14 calls for service. Six welfare checks. I will touch on those. Eight suspicious people. Last night we got a welfare check. It was a welfare check for a 63 yearold woman was last spoken to on monday. Her friend had last talk women evening, had not heard from her. She had called us and we went out to her home in felton and unfortunately she was deceased. We believe that it was Natural Causes at this point, causing her death. There were no sounds of foul play or anything like that that would give a suspicion that anybody did anything to her or caused her death. Nonetheless, it is a sad note as far as that is concerned. Secondly, a welfare check for someone who had potentially this person had evacuated from the area, in Boulder Creek. They did what we had asked them to do. They left the area. What we are seeing is that they were staying with a friend until monday. So, they left sometime monday evening. Their friend called us, during the night last night to say that they had not heard from them, theres a conversation that this person wanted to sneak back into the evacuated area, to their home. We are actively looking for that person to find out where they are, and make sure that they are okay. I would reiterate a couple of things, one is that we want to get you back home. We really do. There are dangers to sneaking back into the evacuated area, you know, you just dont know. You might not know the train. You may not know the area. You can get lost, and then, we really want to help you. What it does is it divides our resources and the sense that we are going to send people to find you, and in this case that is exactly what we are going to do. That is okay. We want to make sure you are okay but i want to discourage people from doing that. You know . That way it does not divide our resources. If you find a person, i will let you know. That is what we are doing right now. On another piece of that information, again, if you have not heard from a friend thats how these calls came in. I would encourage you if you think that they remain in the evacuated area, returning, give us a call. Four 8314711121. Give us a call. We will do exactly what we had done last night. We do security checks on homes to make sure that no one is breaking in. We also want to make sure that people are safe and accounted for. If you have not heard from a friend, give us a call. Lastly, just to touch on the website that you heard chief cox dimension. You know, we can completely understand that you want to know the status of your house, if it is in a fire damaged area. I want to radiate the website, Santa Cruz County for Fire Recovery. You can go to the Damage Assessment map. That is Santa Cruz CountyFire RecoveryDamage Assessment map. It will give you information, if you put your address and there. I will tell you if your house has been damaged, or if it is okay or hopefully not destroyed. Thank you. From the San Mateo CountySheriffs Office, mikes white. Good morning, no changes for San Mateo County. We want to say thank you to everyone who donated diapers, baby from li and School Supplies at the event center. For those of you that are interested in helping out another ways you can make financial donations to pescadero as well as the red cross. We also want to say how grateful we are for all of the support that we see from the community, whether it is online messages are a couple of restaurants that have donated food including alices restaurant on skyline and 84th. It is incredibly motivating. The First Responders and the support staff see these messages and these comments and we see signs out in the community. We cannot tell you how much it means to us. Thank you for all of the supporting gratitude. It is heard and it is felt. Speaking next on behalf of the agencies and unified command is Management Team three. Good morning. Obviously, yesterday, we had Great Success out on the line. We had clean air and we were able to fly our aircraft. Folks were able to get in there and develop a limiter control. There was a lot of a lot of the smoke production and the air it was very visible from the highway 17 4. When we get clean out like that, and it is visible, the fire is just slowly moving down the slope. And and behind around the structures of felton, it is very visible from this area. Obviously we have firefighting forces on the ground. Today, you are the operational plan. We are going to be doing this later this afternoon, earning operations to control the fire on our terms. We will work diligently to secure the liner the next 2448 hours. We will bring that down very safely and slowly into what we would consider the primary control that would protect the communities. With that said, obviously, when the smoke starts to clear, all of the residents will be getting very restless about trying to get back into their home, wanting to know when the Evacuation Orders and warnings will be lifted. We will work with our counterparts in the Law Enforcement agencies to develop a Strategic Plan to bring folks in. We have already started to identify areas that we would be able to potentially start looking out for the thing Evacuation Orders and moving them to evacuation warnings. Please be patient. It is a process. Obviously, the biggest concern is when we start bringing folks back in. Lifting some of the waters. We need to make sure that we build a good Strong Foundation for all of the residence, meaning that we have good roadways for them to travel on and secured all the utilities and making sure it is safe. We need to make sure that we have product for them so that they have the essential necessities to live with. Those are the pieces that we will continue to work on. Identifying those. Fixing issues. Getting these folks back to a sense of normal as soon as possible. Thank you. All right, our final speaker from the local calfire unit, ian larkin. Good morning. As you have seen, we are starting to make progress. It is slow and methodical, but it is happening. For those of you that are using the website for Santa Cruz County in order to determine if your property has sustained damage or has been destroyed, i would like to make a preface to take note that our damage inspection is still ongoing and it has not been completed yet. Because your house may not be represented on the map as having damage were being destroyed, the damage inspection continues to move forward and the numbers may increase. They will represent properties that are added to that each day. Be mindful that just because it is not there today does not mean that it will not be there tomorrow. For the folks that have sustained damage or need assistance, there are a few areas that i will give you right now that i can be of assistance to you. You can go to the disaster assistance. Government website. That is disaster assistance. Gov. There are resources there for folks that are in need. Also, download our fema app from the android and apple platforms. Once again, that is at the map. If you dont have the ability to download that application, call fema directly and that is at one 800 621 fema. One 861 fema. There is a lot of assistance there. For those that have Small Businesses, that need assistance, you can go to the Small Business administration, the Small Business administration, there are Resources Available to you to help you with that effort. Once again, for the troops on the ground and the incident Management Team that is here along with our cooperating agencies, and the Sheriff Department from Santa Cruz County, working diligently and as quickly as possible to make the environment as safe as possible f that are affected. So, please bear with us. We are moving through this and we are moving as fast as we can. We will do our best to get this wrapped up and get you guys back home. Yeah. All right, we have been listening life into a calfire news conference. Heres a brief recap of what they said. Mostly positive news. The flames are still out there, and there are still problems. 80,000 acres have burned. It is 90 percent contained. 538 buildings have been destroyed it, and they e. A lot of it is thanks to the Better Weather. Cooler temperatures. Better humidity. They plan to fly more planes today. If there is one thing that was saturday pointed out, they found the body of a 63yearold woman. The woman was found during a welfare check. It appears that she died of Natural Causes.
