Into the afternoon hours, hazy sunshine is on track to reach low 60s to 70s. The hotspot is near 90 degrees. Santa rosa, 54, san jose, 64, fairfield, a bit of a breeze. Here is the camera looking out towards sfo. We have patchy clouds out there. There are forecast highs this afternoon, should be a little bit warmer compared to yesterdays readings. Whats go see what we have. Traffic continues to look good at the bay bridge. You can see that there have been no major issues so far. If you are driving around san francisco, northbound 101 looks nice. San jose, northbound 280 is at the speed limit. Lets go back to the headlines. At 4 33, more people are being allowed to go back home now. The biggest progress is being made in the north bay. Most in Sonoma County are starting to go back home. Cal fire credits hard work and some good luck. Since august 15th, california has seen more than 600 wildfires that have earned vigor than the state of delaware. Numbers of the National Guard will be here in the next few days to help fight the fires in napa, sonoma and lake counties. Some evacuees in the Santa Cruz Mountains have been out of their homes for a week now. There is frustration growing. Katie used jesse gary spoke with some of the evacuees at an evacuation center. Is it ever going to end . You know . I want to go home. Reporter she echoes sentiments shared by people involved with the ccu complex fire. They have set up many sites for the pets and animals. Since the first night, we have expanded considerably. We have a lot of good infrastructure going on. We are feeding and sheltering close to 600 people. Reporter this is a difficult situation. Days away from home have stretched to one week. We are staying at an Extended Stay Hotel with six other dogs and a cat. We come down to see monterey. This is their arabian horse. The gilding was bred for endurance, but lives in unfamiliar settings as they brace for the worst. We are trying to stay calm and make a plan in case there is a big change. That is the hardwon, making a future plan. The what its reporter continued favorable weather aided firefighters with the complex. Containment is up to 17 . Air quality is improving. It is part of the overall strategy. It poses no threat with of the weather patterns. It is exactly what we want to do. It is, again, a stretch we are utilizing. Reporter for those who are affected by the flames, a strategy of waiting and hoping as another day becomes another night away from the place that they cannot go, home. Cal fire and county sheriffs are doing the best they can. They dont need civilians trying to go home when they are not allowed to. Reporter evacuation orders still stand. Deputies are stationed in neighborhoods to make sure looters dont try to take advantage of the situation. Evacuation sites around the county will be open for the foreseeable future. It has been more than a week since the wildfires started. People are looking for ways to support others, including the fire crews. Firefighters are cheered as they head out to the fire lines. More than 100 people showed up for yesterdays sendoff. When they return, there are signs at their hotel rooms thanking them for their work. I wanted to send them off on their day knowing that we really care about what they are doing. For a few days, everyone was really scared. The only people who we saw who were brave enough were the firefighters. Two girls found their own way to thank the firefighters, they delivered baked goods and cards to the local fire department. They are exhausted and tired. They deserve something really thoughtful. If we didnt have to worry about the coronavirus, i would give you a big hug. How about an air high five. Yeah. Other Community Members are raising money to donate to the volunteer firefighters in santa cruz county. They are also providing snacks, water and personalized items to say that they are proud of the job they do and grateful for the community support. The lnu complex fire is burning towards middletown and lake county. It is getting close to the helicopter base. Cal fire has pulled in a larger aircraft to drop more water and fire retardant in the area. There are crews who are strengthening the lines. We have been here for 5 years. We lost our house in the valley fire. We moved back this last year. It is scary. Many friends and neighbors are out of the danger. Its in the midst of Everything Else we are going through in our country. People who talk to us say they are confident cal fire is doing everything they can to make sure the community does not burn again. More coronavirus cases were reported yesterday. It was the lowest number since the end of june. Unfortunately, almost 105 people died from the virus on monday. The rate of part positive cases has gone up 5. 7 in the past week. Both of these are trending below California School of 8 . While these numbers are encouraging, there is still a lot of questions as to whether california is prepared to reopen businesses. Some Small Business owners rallied in front of city hall yesterday. They are frustrated about the economic toll. A uc berkeley professor says the reopening last may showed california was not committed enough to taking enough precautions to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The reason it didnt work is because people work social distancing and werent wearing masks. There is nothing magical about stopping this pandemic. We know exactly what we have to do. It is just getting people to do it. This is owners say they want Public Officials to give clear directives about what Health Measures might allow them to reopen safely. The bay area air Quality Management district is extending the spare beer alerts through friday because of smoke through all the local wildfires. That means, try to take public transportation. No wood burning is allowed. That leads us right to mark. That is a big story with the weather playing a big role in fighting these fires. Smoky air is affecting us in the bay area. The sentencing trial is underway for the gunmen in last years deadly shooting where more than 50 people were killed at a mosque. The 29yearold pled guilty to murder, attempted murder and terrorism. A year after the attacks, 51 people were killed at the two mosques. He said he will not be speaking out in his defense. However, 90 trial this week. I do not forgive you. I do not forgive you you have done. While you are in prison, you will come to reality that you are now in and only the fire awaits you. Many want the judge to impose the maximum penalty, life in prison without parole. Police are searching for a person who shot and killed a college student. This happened two weeks ago at a Graduation Party for the victims friend on 65th avenue. Xavier attended cal state. Also in oakland, eight people have been arrested in connection with a crime ring. Police found drugs and 14,000 in cash. The arrest happened at and airbnb in san francisco. The mayor and the sheriff announced that inmates and city staff will be moved from the jail at the end of next week. The closing date had previously been set for november. This is not just putting people incarcerated in danger, but also, the staff, deputies, contractors and all the Community Members who came to visit. That jail was built in 1961. It is the third jail to be closed since 2010. This storm is quickly developing. A category three storm, right now, with wind of 115 miles per hour, you could see what happens later on this evening. It could possibly turn into a category four storm, in fact, we will come closer. There is the category three. Backup the maps.
