Boulder creek there are several areas, outlined in purple, still shut down. Highway 17 is passable from the valley over to santa cruz. Bay bridge toll plaza is light. They picked up roadwork on highway 24 near the caldecott tunnel. As you look at the toll plaza, we are light. Lets go back to the headlines. This morning, firefighters in the north bay continue to make progress, battling the massive lnu lightning complex fire. It is 25 contained after burning almost 550 square miles. You have the details on all of this, good morning. Reporter there is good news today. Some evacuation orders have been downgraded to warnings in Sonoma County. That means some people can go home. This is only for People Living within the burned areas of the myers fire within the lnu lightning complex. It is 96 contained and the Sonoma CountySheriffs Office says those within the warning zones can head back. Fire officials had a positive attitude during news conferences yesterday. They say they are turning a corner with this massive complex. As of 7 00 last night, the lnu lightning complex has burned nearly 550 square miles and is 25 contained. 908 buildings are destroyed. 248 are damaged, and more than 30,000 are still threatened. Six people have died in the fire including a pge worker. There is a lot of work to be done and many evacuation orders remain in place. If you get to go back to your property, it is important to be safe. Make sure everything is good and safe around your property. If there is debris, trees, if youre property has been burned, take a check of your property. People have been through their. But i ask everybody check your homes. Reporter theres a reentry point open for those who live within the myers fire zone and can go home. It is located at 17 499 bodega highway and open from 10 00 a. M. To 7 00 p. M. Evacuation orders have been reduced for some parts of santa clara and Stanislaus County down from mandatory to warnings. That includes areas from highway 101 two metcalf road and east of coyote creek. The fires have burned 562 1 2 square miles and is 50 contained. The scu fire stretched across seven counties including alameda, contra costa, and santa clara in the diablo range. Those to the west cover 123 square miles of san mateo and santa cruz counties. Cal fire will hold the daily news conference. Firefighters do hope todays weather will be just as helpful as it was yesterday. Pilots were able to fly some more planes, drop more water and fire retardant because of the air. The ccu fire is 30 contained. We left with just the clothes on our back. We grabbed a couple pieces of clothing. I did take some of my animals out at the time. 600 evacuees are sheltered at the Santa Cruz County fairgrounds. The spca is helping rescue animals including the miniature horses. The czu fires have destroyed 276 homes and other buildings. 1600 firefighters are battling the flames on the ground and in the air. Authorities have recovered and identified a man who died in the fire over the weekend. 73yearold thad jones was a vietnam war veteran whose body was found on a trail near his van. Governor newsom said the state is deploying all available resources to battle the wildfires burning across the bay area, including mutual aid from crews from Southern California. Santa cruz is seeing the same thing from many Southern California engines coming up from most every department in the state. Instate mutual aid is providing within dish crews and 709 engines to battle fires out of the run jurisdictions. 11 states are sending crews and equipment from as far away as montana and kansas. Hundreds of people took to the streets of kenosha following the shooting sunday night. Neighbors say the 29yearold jacob blake was trying to get into a car when police shot him multiple times. Overnight, protesters set fire to buildings, smashed windows, and broken to businesses. More than 100 National Guard troops were sent to kenosha overnight. Folks across the state will be making their voices heard across wisconsin. Every person should be able to make their voices heard. A report on the calls to action without any fear of being unsafe. Blake is currently in the hospital in critical condition. Two of the officers have been placed on administrative leave. Downtown los angeles, dozens of protesters marched against recent Police Shootings. The demonstrations remained peaceful. Protesters walked from city hall to police headquarters. The demonstrations focused on the kenosha, wisconsin, shooting of jacob blake and the deadly shooting of a pasadena man during a traffic stop. Police in Portland Oregon declared a ride. Lets go back to the headlines. Will get an update on the czu fire. The lightning fires coming up at 6 00 this morning. Thanks to additional resources, more favorable weather conditions, firefighters are starting to make some progress. Reporter the fog and the cooler weather did allow firefighters to make some progress yesterday, and gain more control of the czu lightning fire that continues to burn in san mateo and santa cruz counties. It has burned more than 78,000 acres. It hasnt really grown much in size compared to this time yesterday morning. It is still 13 contained. The fire has destroyed more than 260 structures including 208 homes, mostly in Santa Cruz County. One person died trying to escape the fire. The Corners Office identified the body of a 73yearold, a resident of the last chance community. More than one week after the fire was sparked by lightning, cooler weather is come in, calm winds and no lightning yesterday, allowed firefighters to feel more optimistic about their progress containing the fire. With a weather we had, it let us get in there and do good work. Today was the best day had. We were able to drop 200,000 gallons throughout the day in Fire Suppression activity. Reporter there are still about 77,000 people forced to evacuate in santa cruz and san mateo. Those evacuation orders are still in effect. The conditions in the area are ready burned by the fire still arent safe for people to go back. Trees in danger of toppling over, bridges and roads in disrepair. There is still fire actively burning especially above the fog line in the santa cruz mountains. Officials say no one should be going back to these evacuation zones anytime soon to check on their property. In about half an hour from now, firefighters will have another update on this fire and what happened with the fire activity overnight. We will bring that to you during the mornings on 2. The cab palace is being used to house hundreds of animals that have been evacuated from the czu lightning complex fires. Volunteers are working around the clock to care for the nearly 300 animals in daily city. Keeping track of cows, chickens, and other animals can be a stressful task. Making sure we know how many animals we have. Where they are coming from. Who owns them and if they have specific, special needs, like they take medication or they only eat certain food. The cow palace has been the scene concerts, political conventions, and other events over the years, but this is the first time it has ever been used as a go animal evacuation center. We are hearing from darrell sales us up a firefighter who lost his own home in the czu lightning fires. Is a secondgeneration firefighter with the san jose department. Last week he was heading to the czu fires but was pulled off the fire rig to make room for a driver. Later he and his partner had to evacuate their home in bonnie doon. Then there was a text message from a friend who was out there battling the flames. He texted me and said we tried to get on your road, and it is too hot. We couldnt make it. I knew then that it was gone. He had just bought his house last year. Even built a deck for his sisters wedding because the original venue was canceled because of the pandemic. Authorities are searching for this man who you see. He is suspected of stealing the wallet of a cal fire commander and drained his bank account. Investigators released Surveillance Video of the suspect to use the commanders credit cards at a gas station and a safeway. The suspect has shoulderlength hair, he was wearing a San Francisco giants cap, a black and white checkered face covering, and was wearing shoes. The lightning fires make up the Biggest Group of the fires in the bay area. They have burned more than 562 square miles. That is bigger than any city in california. Cal fire says the main priority in battling these fires, the western front, where most of the 20,000 homes and other buildings are in danger. Every part of this perimeter is involved in either evacuation warning or order. We are working diligently to put the folks back into those neighborhoods. We understand what a priority that is. A news crew drove more than 70 miles from the city of patterson all the way to livermore. They saw miles of scorched the houses that had Defensible Space are still standing. The mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted in some areas. The cal fire says its too early to say when everybody will be allowed to go back home. We are going to get active burning. Authorities in west marin county issued the first evacuation orders for homes endangered by the woodward fire. It has burned about 2500 acres. More than 1600 buildings are threatened.
