As a matter of fact, traffic looks pretty good as you drive through the area on the richmond bridge. We have had no major problems so far. Right now, traffic continues to move well. If you are going near the toll plaza, traffic looks good. Lets go back to the headlines. We are continuing the coverage of wildfires burning around the bay area. Its morning, firefighters in the north bay are making progress in the battle against the huge lightning complex fire. It is now 25 contained. It has burned almost 550 square miles. Mandatory Evacuation Orders have been lifted in some areas. Cal fire says it is still too early to say when everyone will be allowed to go back home. We are going to get active burning again. We are having active burning, like i said, in the east zone right now. That is having good fire behavior. These fires have taken a tragic toll. Six people have been killed, at least, including a pg e worker. Authorities in west marin county have issued the first mandatory Evacuation Order for homes threatened by the woodward fire. It has burned many acres, 1600 buildings are in danger. This fire is only 5 contained. Everyone nearing civil or hills road, fox drive and noren way, you should leave your homes. While these fires in the bay area have destroyed hundreds of homes and claimed six lives, one family has been hit hardest. Henry lee talked to the family who lost three members in the ellen you lightning complex fires. Reporter mary lost her life after trying to save her disabled boyfriend and her son. On tuesday, she left her home and came across a road block. She knew, if they went past, they wouldnt let her go back. That meant leo and tom were not going to be able to leave. Reporter crystal made the decision to go back to her home. The flames were impossible to leave by car. The three sought refuge in a bunker. They went in there, hoping they could ride it out. Unfortunately, the fire was so intense. Within moments, three lives were lost, including the matriarch. She is like everyones grandma. It didnt matter if you are biologically hers or not. Sorry she was really warm and welcoming, open to everyone. Her boyfriend of seven years used a wheelchair. He was a rough old man, but he wanted everyone to do good. The cow palace has now been used to house hundreds of animals that have been evacuated from the cz you lightning complex fire in the santa cruz mountains. Volunteers are now working around the clock to care for the nearly 300 animals in daly city. They say keeping track of cows, chicken and sheep during a wildfire crisis can be a very stressful task. We need to make sure who is coming, where they are coming from, who owns them, and if the animals have any special needs, like if they take medication or only eat certain food the cow palace has been the scene of concerts and political conventions. This is the first time it has ever been used as an animal evacuation center. This morning, there is word of a firefighter whose home was lost in the lightning fires. His name is darrell, a Second Generation firefighter with the san jose firefighting department. He was going to the fires last week, but was pulled off the fire truck to make room for a driver and more equipment. As it turns out, he and his partner chelsea later had to evacuate their home. Then, he received a text message from a friend who was battling those fires. He texted me, saying, we try to get to your house. It is too hot. Everything is on fire. We couldnt make it. I knew, then, the gut feeling i knew, it was gone. He just bought his house last year. He even built a deck for his sisters wedding because her original wedding venue was canceled because of the pandemic. Authorities are looking for this man. He is expected of stealing the wallet of a firefighter in training his bank account. They released image of the suspect who used a Firefighters Credit card at a gas station and safely store. Take a look, the suspect has shoulderlength hair. He was wearing a San Francisco giants cap, a black and white checkered Face Covering and had on vans style shoes. The scu lightning complex fires make up the Biggest Group of fires in the bay area. It has burned more than 562 square miles. That is bigger than any city in california. Cal fire says its main priority in fighting these fires is the western front. That is where most of the 20,000 homes and other buildings are in danger. This case got national attention, the state Supreme Court has overturned the Death Penalty for Scott Peterson in the murder of his pregnant wife. Yesterdays ruling upheld the 2004 conviction of peterson for murdering lacy peterson. She was eight months pregnant with her first baby. Investigators say he killed lacy and dumped her body into the San Francisco bay on christmas eve. The trial judge made significant errors in jury selection by dismissing jurors who said the diss of disagreed with the Death Penalty. Imagine, you say i believe in the Death Penalty. You are going to get a more conservative jury. That affects the verdict in the case. So, you want those people on the jury so you get a fair jury. We are talking about taking a persons life, here. Richmond police have released an image of the car, saying the driver of the Toyota Avalon hit the 41yearold and took off. The loss has left his loved ones heartbroken. Meanwhile, look at laura, off the coastline, expected to strengthen. The wind is at 70 Miles Per Hour. Take a look at what is expected as it moves into these areas. It looks like the border of louisiana and texas come wednesday night into thursday with winds perhaps to 115 Miles Per Hour and a category three storm. Meanwhile, at home, we had a potential for thunderstorms yesterday. It did not materialize over the bay area. It was active near sacramento and into the sierra. For us, we were spared.
