Up next, were catching up with an expert on the American Association of the medical colleges and just a few tips for you. Lives theres a road map to resetting. Lets talk about this more and welcoming the executive director of the association of the American Medical College and action institute. Thanks for being with us, doctor. Thanks for having me. Good morning. Before we get to the association ideas for a reset, lets look back. What went wrong . Well, where do we start . I think rather than focussing on what we did wrong, i think we should be thinking about what we have learned. We have learned a couple of things. Number one, were not going getting a really affective treatment or vaccine for some time. We need to be thinking of prevention. That means that all of us need to watch the hands and watching the distance and wearing Face Covering as much as possible. We have learned about the trans misblt of the virus, the impact on those people that are already potentially sick with other conditions, and also people of color. I think more than ever, we need to make sure that we use those lessons as we move forward. Your association calls wearing a mask the easiest and most important step in preventing covid19. Is the association in favor of what some lawmakers have proposed as a nationwide mandate . I am not sure that nationwide mandate is going to be very helpful in the sense that all of the communities are different. You want to respond on the ground as the conditions washed. I do think that a majority of the country could probably benefit from a local or state massing mandate because we know that anywhere where theres increasing numbers of people that are getting infected anywhere where people are potentially interacting with people outside or inside under six fitted, people need to wear a mask. If were all Wearing Masks, we can start to reduce the rate of the transmission by 80 or 90 . In mu cases wearing it or not is a political statement. How do you think that perhaps state and local leader can tell people forget the politics, this is for Public Safety . Well, i dont see this as a political issue. We see it as a scientific issue. I know that theyre frustrated because the messages have changed. I know that they have been really restricting from for five or six months for now. All of that taken in to account, the best thing for the local leader to do is to lead by example, so that when theyre showing up, if theyre not six feet away from people, certainly if theyre indoors, that they want to be Wearing Masks when theyre on tv and being interviewed by you all. Thats the best thing that you can do. Its uncomfortable and hot and not dangerous. We know that wearing a mask can benefit you and others around you, and it will not lead to any significant side affects for you. The road map that you have put out is some basic advice that were hearing since the beginning of the pandemic . Yeah, the advice that we havd of july and then expanded on with this mask guidance, and this is hopefully what i think will be the first of a couple of different specifications on some of the road map items that we laid out. We need to think about the drug shortages and supply issues and not just for ppe. Thats still an issue in many places but for the resting. One of the big factors than the agents. Yale university has come up with rapid tests. We have to make sure that we have the transport for those things and to be able to use them and the facilities. We have to make sure that as we think about getting a vaccine, the time is now to think about how we prioritize who would get them and in what order. If you think about first responders, is it nurses, physicians, paramedics, Police Officers and those in Nursing Homes and those with a chronic condition. All thief that needs to be thought of. We need to think of making sure that we have the needles, et cetera. We have Face Coverings that are applied and see what we have to do to open the schools and businesses safely. One of the biggest things is making sure that people have access to the health care. We have millions of people that have lost their jobs and is health insurance. We have to make sure that we dont have a huge additional gap for them as they face this with the rest of us. The three things that we can do is wash your hands and wear a mask. Thank you so much for joining us this morning. Thank you for having me. Coming up in a moment here on mornings on 2. Looks like he was near the vehicle and some distance away from the vehicle and likely leaving the fire. There are now more than 1,500 firefighters fighting fire in San Mateo County. Its no longer moving to the communities. The fire is also not moving east toward santa clara county. Yesterday the crews were able to build the fire around the lines of the southeastern side of the fire to protect the santa cruz campus. Emergency officials are warning people not to return to the evacuated areas to check on the property. Last night the had to rescue six people trying to do just that. Its highly dangerous still. The trees are coming down and then theres timber and those coming across the roadway. We have bridges that have failed. Old wood bridges that have fail and may not appear failed. Its not safe. Now, we do have a picture from cal fire here from one of the failed bridges that you heard in the division chief just mentioned. This is at mill creek. You have 12 structures 12 minors destroyed. A total of 24. You take a look at the can see a that is theyre dealing with, but theres an importance right now of creating a perimeter. Theyre using the assets to do that. Some of the area that youre looking at, yes, its not seen and any burn activity. It does not take much to get it start and then gets going. They say that they ignite the fire. The at the focus is keeping the fire and huge flames away from the heavy Populated Areas. This side of the fire has become or is the most active priority zone of the fire because of the perimeter to the Populated Areas as we move down the freeway and some of the cities that are along here. There are evacuations actions that are taken in the way of warnings and orders along the whole perimeter. Were watching this zone with the goal of blanking the fire and pushing it away from the Populated Areas as well. The other area of the fire that continues to be a challenge is the southern piece of this canyon zone. It continues to push down in to the state park through the wild wilderness area. That is a challenge. So challenges around the area. We did have the photo journalist in the northern earn part. Earlier this morning that was an area that really thought would get hit, and they were concerned about that. Its been very quiet up there. We did not see a lot of activity there. When resources across the state are very thin and youre talking about the coordination, theyre saying that this coordination of using what little they have to be spread out over a large area, thats unprecedented. Hopefully between 10 to 15 minutes a day. That would really set them up and the love of reading. Its just, you know, helping the flurn si and comprehension. Thats basically just the more that you read to your child, the better the readers will become as they move on for the second and third grade. Now, it goes beyond that. How would they feel if they were going through what the character was going through. All of this is helping them to builds that foundation of literacy. Knowing not everybody has box made me want to do something and give children the resources, so that we can even the Playing Field and close that gap and have the opportunities that they should have.
