Cal fire is warning people to obey those orders and to stay out of the evacuated areas. Last night, three separate rescues that pulled our vital very few resources away tapped to rescue those individuals because they put themselves in peril. Theyre not trained firefighters and i know theyre trying to do the right thing for their property and their neighbors, gust in the long run it has created a bigger problem for the first responders. Our firefighters were pulled away from the firefight rescue them. There are multiple towns in the Santa Cruz Mountains under threat, including Boulder Creek and davenport, and Scotts Valley. In the north bay, the massive lnu complex fire is burning in napa, sonoma, and solano counties, as well as up into lake and yolo counties. The fire has burned over 219,000 acres, and its 7 contained. The scu lightning complex fire is the biggest in the state right now. It has burned nearly 230,000 acres and is 10 contained. It has forced evacuation destroyed dozens of structures in its path. Cal fire says the scu fire has now become the 7th largest fire in california history. It is now affecting 6 counties including alameda, contra costa, santa clara, merced, san walker, and stanislaus. Greg legislation has more now on where the fire is moving and what is in it path. Greg . Yeah, just a short time ago, cal fire did expand its evacuation warning zone into merced county, to an area north of highway 152 near i5. This complex of fires has burned about 230,000 acres so far. It basically stretches from mount diablo down to morgan hill, and is east, and accordin to cal fire, at the north side of the scu lightning complex fires from above livermore. An area now put at some ease as the bulk of the blaze heads south. This area west of Mount Hamilton is a Development Still considered at potential risk. Part of the neighborhood is under mandatory evacuation, yet some homeowners are still reluctant to leave. Most of the people are still there. Reporter the library in melpetus is one of three centers helping families find help. 24 households had arrived here by the afternoon. These are points people can come to where we can carefully social distance but silt down with them to see what their needs are, somewhere to go tonight. Reporter at just 10 containment, its been difficult to get a handle on this fire, due to its size and persistently low humidity. Were seeing those low relative humidities through the night, and not really conducive to fire growth and behavior. So were seeing it burn through the day and the night, and not getting a break from it. Reporter cal fire said just 5 structures have been destroyed, as flames eat their waying through south through mostly unpopulated terrain. The lack of development is also making it harder to fight. Theres no paved roads. A lot of dirt trails, but not a lot of paved roads and access for firefighters to get in there and fight. Now in order to get more containment around this fire, cal fire says it needs winds to stay relatively calm, and for that stubborn humidity to begin to rise. Yeah, and hopefully they can get the an upper hand on the fire before this weekends weather moves in. Greg, thank you. And well, more resources are on the way to help firefighters here in california. Were joined by former president ial appoint yes mark nuvo. Mark, this morning we heard Governor Newsom say that mutual aide is coming in from canada, australia, and a slew of states helping out here. How will these resources be divide up, and is it enough . Yeah, you know, when we talked about this, and i heard you guys reporting it, there are 24 active fires in california operated under complexes, and weve heard the names before. Any one of those fires in itself is considered a major wild land fire. So its unprecedented the amount of fire thats on the ground in california right now. In terms of resources, we know cal fire and municipal departments that help fight these goanother 3,000 firefighters today, which is huge. That raises it to 10,000. As they continue to come in, what they are going to do is prioritize them based upon their time of arrival, how far they are traveling, when they hope to arrive, put them in staging and move them to as quickly as possible to wherever they are specialized. There may be structure protection because thai there are fire engine crews. It really depends upon whats happening, not just in one fire, but three complex fires based upon the priority amongst those three complex fires. Yeah, weve been through wildfires before, but dont think weve ever seen anythina Incident Commander for the fire thats down in the santa cruz mourn tans said yesterday, now mind you, hes probably been on the job about 30plus years, the fire potential growth and flame line is the highest hes ever seen it. It was traveling at a thousand acres an hour. So in perspective, if you think about that, thats like 700 football fields end to end, side to side, fire traveling through that with flame lengths up to two and a half stories high. Unbelievable. It is unbelievable. And were talking about people evacuating, a lot of cities are under evacuation orders or warnings. Where are people going . Because now that we have a pandemic, im sure shelters are not operating like they normally do. There are social distancing rules in place. How is that being handled . Yeah, great question. Wewhsstate of california, they started whats known as project room key, which allowed hotels that were empty to be rented by the state to provide that for covid 19 folks that need to be isolated. Theyve got a number of those rooms available that theyre using, to be able to provide for people who are evacuated. Theres a number of shelters, more shelters than normal are opened, and thats because theyre trying to maintain six foot distancing. But a also see people taking their motor homes, parking lots, anywhere they can right now, to be able to evacuate. And unfortunately what we saw last night could happen again easily, and that is people not evacuating, creating a dangerous situation for themselves, and firefighters. If people think they need to go, they should go. Dont wait for that order. Do not wait. Yeah. Good advise there from you, mark. I know its hard. A lot of people simply dont want to leave, and we get with its emotional, and a very stressful time, but now is the time to get what you need, Important Documents that cant be replaced, and get ready to go.
