Many counties are opening up cooling centers to try to help people beat the excessive heat during the next few days. The pandemic has led to some changes for those who stop by the cooling centers. There are social distancing protocols and plenty of Hand Sanitizer available in an effort to keep everyone safe. We want to make sure that we have access available to folks in the area, seniors, disabled, others who might need , basically, some cooling from their homes who do not have air conditioning. The National Weather service has issued a heat advisory that goes into effect at noon today. Everyone is urged to stay out of the direct sun and drink plenty of fluids. The warmer weather is resulting in a strain of the strange power grid. The flex alert is being issued today. Everyone is being asked to reduce power usage during peak hours, 3 00 in the afternoon until 10 00 at night. Our reporter shows us how conservation can be a challenge with everyone at home during the pandemic. Reporter the concern is, running air conditioners longer will put a strain on the power grid. It could be tighter as cloud cover would cause a drop in solar power. Cloud cover reduces solar output.
