Reporter joe biden and california senator Kamala Harris appeared together. As i said when you call me im incredibly honored by this responsibility and im ready to get to work. Little girls woke up, especially black and brown girls who feel overlooked and undervalued in their community. Today just maybe they see themselves for the first time in a new way. I dont think that it necessarily stood out. But they had very different messages when they work painting against each other and we got to see those two messages melt together as one. Showing that they are united and moving through this together. Making some very pointed remarks against the trump administration. Which i think will be the trend from here on out. I thought today was very smooth and well x executed. I can imagine the logistics. I thought they worked well together as a team. She is a formidable speaker, shes empathetic. As we look forward to the race what would you say are the strengths and weaknesses of having harris on the democratic ticket . Her strengths are her deep resume her experience at all levels of government shes highly competent and capable. She has a lot of moxie and shes clearly i dont see a weakness for the ticket. The most Important Role a Vice President plays is to be capable and ready to take over government is the need arises and she meets that task. If she was from florida or pennsylvania or wisconsin a swing state. The fact that shes from california we would call that a small weakness what about the dynamic of the black vote. Do you think that will change and make it a problem for President Donald Trump . The black vote is heavily tilted towards the democrats i dont think i see that changing too much. Kamala harris was the most liberal senator do you think the rnc in the Trump Campaign will be on the same page when it comes to attacking her . Thats a really interesting question. I saw that same claim about her being the most liberal. And i lobbied in the senate for 25 years. I find that hard to believe. Putting that aside even if it was true. The initial response that i have seen with her announcement from the Trump Campaign is that she is a radical liberal and somehow conservative. That her Law Enforcement background makes her unfit for this position. I do think that they are testing out a different messages, im sure that they will land on something but right now they dont seem to have the message down. They are just getting started. Coming up next a text expert will join us saying that they may shut down uber and california . For the sweaty faces. And the hidden smiles. The foggy glasses. And the muffled laughs. A simple piece of fabric makes a big statement i care. Wear a mask. Lets all do our part to slow the spread. The ceo of uber said that they could shut down service in california if the court doesnt overturn a judges ruling that forces them to classify drivers as a fulltime employee. Uber and lift are in the process of appealing the decision. I think im in favor of uber and lyft abiding by the laws of the land. Ive been an employer in california for 30 years and ive been using these regulations to hire and train employees all along. The fact that these Rideshare Companies have not done it is a shock and surprise to me sumac is a necessary that they need to shut down or that more of a scare tactic . I think its more of a scare tactic. They have 10 days to appeal the ruling , which means they have to set up symptoms systems to turn drivers into actual employees which would give them access to sick pay, overtime pay , minimum wage, unemployment benefits, paid rest periods, its the pretty big undertaking. I can imagine that they havent seen it coming and prepared for. I know they will fight it. Because california is just the beginning. As soon as california transfers all of those independent contractors to employees. States like new york and all over the country will slowly follow suit. It is unfair for competing businesses like taxis to have to pay payroll taxes and that minimum wage and all these other things and uber and lyft do not have to. Is is basically a money issue that they would have to pay workers more in terms of health care and other benefits . They would deftly have to do that if you are in uber driver and you get injured on the job your footing that bill for your health care. There is no benefit to you. You cant get that with these Rideshare Companies. Its a dangerous time during covid19 when people are picking up whatever jobs they can do to make ends meet. And they are ultimately being exploited by these billion Dollar Companies for the dollar. And its just not right. They are finally being held accountable and it is about time. Uber lyft are banking on proposition 22. What happens if it doesnt pass . If it doesnt pass they would have to turn their contractors into employees. Their argument is silly. The judge nearly laughed as hes giving his ruling on this. They are saying that the drivers are not part of the companys business and that seems ridiculous to say that. In california you have to pass the abc test. You basically have to ask three basic questions to determine if someones an independent contractor. One is can they perform the job without the company telling them how to perform the job. Can they perform it for other companies . Or do they do this independently . And is this job that they are performing not essential to the way the company performs business . Unfortunately lyft and uber fail on all three categories. How do you see all of this playing out . So many people depend on uber and lyft. Whats going to happen . Whats likely to happen is that uber and lyft will not be able to make any substantial changes before their appeal. What they will most likely do is stop operations in california until that ballot comes around. Theyre hoping that therell be an outrage from drivers that says lets classify these Rideshare Companies different from normal labor laws and let them work independently. I dont think thats going to happen. I think everyone is going to see right through that and they will hold a bunch of people hostage that rely on uber and lyft for money. Especially right now. I hate to use really strong language. But its just evil , its not cool to take all of these people and string them along for months for the billions of dollars. As you can see them a little bit passionate about it. It feels wrong. I appreciate the passion, thank you for joining us. This is just the beginning of where we are going with that inland heat tomorrow we are looking at 71 degrees. We will see 99 in concord, 98 at morgan hill , and mid 80s in fremont. Its going to be warm and that has to do with the fact that we have nearly as much fog in the morning. The entire state is under an excessive heat watch. Its not the north bay, or the peninsula or around the bay. Everywhere else is under that excessive heat watch. Its going to be a hot stretch of triple digit heat headed right through the weekend. Monday its going pull back a tiny bit, were talking upper 90s. Heres an example of the highs that are expected on friday. More triple digit , the northbay not under the excessive heat watch. But you will not be out of it completely. Take a look at this. When i say a bit of a heat wave, notice its not just friday and saturday. Its going to be those upper 90s till monday and tuesday. If youre at the coast its the same story and you will see some lovely 70s. Its time to think ahead and make sure that youre taking precautions if you have difficulty with the heat.
