Classes are about to begin. There is no deal between the district and the teachers learning on it Distance Learning plan for this fall. We are doing now with that story. Reporter there are a lot of questions about what the school year will look like an oakland. It is the first day of school, and we still do not know. The Oakland Education Association have yet to reach a deal on Distance Learning. They have been at the bargaining table since the beginning of july trying to figure out the best options to teach students virtually. Other than knowing that learning is online, there was little guidance on what to expect. The union says they want small targeted groups to give students that need extra kelp the attention they need. They want to bring in substitutes to coteach classes and deal with technical problems so it doesnt take away from life lessons. We spoke with an incoming junior thats it Distance Learning did not challenge him. He has a lot of questions about if the school year will be any different. I do not know how they will add challenge or add substance to a lot of the classes, especially projects. I dont know how they will do that. s heart with working groups and its hard to communicate. He is the first worker at that prison to die from the infection. He had been hospitalized for more than one month. Relatives believe he caught the virus at work after inmates in the chino prison were transferred to san quentin. His son spoke with us from south korea where he is serving in the army. Today in beirut the judge began questioning the heads of Lebanon Security agencies about last weeks devastating explosion that killed more than 160 people. Protesters were in the streets of beirut calling for the whole government to resign. The Justice Minister resigned today. The third cabinet minister that resigned because of that explosion. Protesters say the government is corrupt and incompetent. We are so angry. I couldnt sleep. I cannot live with myself, if we do not get something after what happened. It is not acceptable. They think they can get away with it after such terrible terrible like, i dont believe, are they humans . The explosion is believed to have been caused by a fire that ignited a stockpile of very explosive material stored at the port of beirut since 2013. Search and rescue teams are still looking for more victims of that huge explosion in beirut. At least 100 people are so reported missing. Two more bodies were pulled from the rubble over the weekend. Protests have erupted acrosss after Election Results landslide victory for the longtime president there. Police in the capital city use tear gas and stun grenades to break up the angry crowds that gathered after the polls close last night. One protester was killed. Dozens more were hurt. There is also questions about where the money will come from to hold up what he is saying he will provide. It includes an extra 400 per week in Unemployment Benefits. It calls for student loan Payment Relief and protection from evictions. Funding would be shifted from the relief fund to unemployment. Thats what it says in the order. The president what states to put forward 25 of that 400 per week bonus on Unemployment Benefits. His action puts pressure on lawmakers to come up with a plan of their own. A new study shows a small number of San Francisco firefighters have tested positive for the coronavirus, even though about half say they have been around people who have been infected with the virus. Police and oakland are investigating three separate and unrelated homicides. The first happened on saturday night. A man was shan at a bus stop on lakeshore avenue. Later that night, a man was shot and killed on 72nd avenue near international boulevard. Another person was hurt and taken to the hospital. Early sunday morning and man was fatally shot inside of a crashed car on holly street. I heard loud booms and gunshots and then a loud screech and some hits like cars hitting and colliding. One got out and the other we try to help out of the car before it caught on fire. He couldnt get out. Police acknowledge the uptick in violence and they are working with violence prevention teams. Police say there have been 52 homicides in oakland so far, there were 49 at this time last year. Police in san mateo have released a photo of a man suspected of assaulting a woman in her 60s. This happened last wednesday in the area of ninth avenue. The man is homeless and they say he was wearing a red lifeguard sweatshirt and was riding a bicycle at the time of the attack. Investigators have found the sweatshirt and the bicycle. The police are asking anyone who has seen the suspect or with any information to give them a call. 7 39. The pandemic is involved in the investigation of an unusual number of deaths of manatc in florida. The state fish and Wildlife Agency reporting the mysterious deaths of almost 400 manatc these wonderful animals in florida so far this year. Scientists are not sure why this is happening. Police say an offduty officer was injured and is fighting for her life. 19 other people were also hurt. The police are reporting they are searching for several shooters. They are saying that the block parties there are a major concern during the pandemic. Nine people were hurt in a shooting at a local park. Police say of family was gathering at the park. They believe someone drove by and just started shooting. Some of the shooting victims are young. We do not know the exact ages yet. None of the injuries appear to be lifethreatening. Its been another weekend of violent protests in the streets of portland. Police in riot gear class with an estimated 200 demonstrators for several hours in the downtown area late last night. This came one night after protesters threw rocks and bottles at officers. They have no plans to leave portland until the civil unrest and violence comes to an end. The violence has started before we got there. It continued when we were there and it has continued even though we have shifted resources. They have directed the Violence Toward local police there. Federal agents arrived in portland and response to the protests that began in late may. Federal authorities have made more than 500 arrests and more than two months of demonstrations. Teachers will invest time in establishing connections with families and students that they will do hours of professional development to plan and prepare for the year. Students will likely have one hour of time with their teachers online and then study online. Other than that, little guidance on what to expect has been release. Teachers one small targeted groups to give students who need extra attention to help that they need.
