A still developing story, where fire investigators are searching for the cause of a huge fire in a neighborhood yesterday morning. Alyssa harrington is here now, we expect an update from the Fire Department and a couple of hours. Good morning, alyssa. We should be briefed around 7 am. Firefighters were actually called to the same location, the night before to extinguish a mattress fire. I want to show you video. The building is on 14th street between folsom in San Franciscos intermission district. Firefighters say they responded to the mattress fire on erie street at 11 30 p. M. Monday, right where the larger fire started. This was on the back sides of part steel, fabricating building supplies. Tuesday, at 6 30 p. M. , firefighters were called back to the building for a larger fire that i quickly spread through a row of structures. The fire was upgraded to five alarms. Huge plumes of black smoke could be seen on 150 firefighters battling the flames. One witness who had to evacuate said it smelled like burning tires. The flames were three times as high as the building was. It was fully engulfed back there. When the first firefighter got here, you cannot see your hand in front of your face. That much of black smoke through the entire alleyway. Now, we have firefighters that can be electrocuted. We have firefighters that can be damaged or hurt by falling debris. One firefighter was injured and had to be taken to the hospital. Two buildings were destroyed, for damage, including a sheriffs building. Firefighters are back at the scene. The big fire started buying the building used by art sales, been in business for 75 years. We spoke to the owner, bruce, who said he saw no sign of flames until he opened the door to the building yesterday morning. Within 10 minutes, the building was gone. The experience, you cannot distribute because your livelihood is gone. He says it is too early to decide if he will will build. Other Business Owners say that there happy that no centuries serious injuries are reported and they will consider ways to reopen because they have a sense of community where they are. Crime reporter henry lee talked to the lawyer who says they followed proper procedure, and did not try to cover up anything. The santa rosa Police Department warrant that the campers that live in the park have to leave or they could be cited. This comes after another sweep of highway overpasses and other parts of santa rosa. Officials say the size of the encampment is a health and safety risk. Fremont park is next to several homes and a school. Neighbors say they do not feel comfortable given how large the income and has gone. It is the day is one of the city. The Fire Department has recently started fires in our near homeless camps. They say it is a big threat. Weather does recreational, or signs of burned vegetation, that with close proximity to the homes that we see here, it is a risk we cannot allow to continue. Despite the risk, those that live there say they are anxious about another move. Advocates say the city should have stepped up and provided more Sanitation Services to keep the camp cleaner. They say the reason the encampment got so big is because no one had anywhere to go after other sweeps. Photographers head out to fremont park, and we will bring you details when we have them. Summer day camps have helped parents get through most of the past few months. We found one that is offering that help into the school year. Almaden Valley Athletic Club is converting the workout room into four classrooms. They plan to most Elementary School students next month and offer what they call support for online school, or sos camps. Three days a week, parents will drop off kids and have camp counselors handle the details of distancelearning for the first half of the school day. The kids will follow a school schedule, login by zoom or whatever platform they are using and take recess. Whatever the School District is asking, that is what we will leave the kids through.
