Hurricane hanna has weakened to a tropical depression. The storm pounded the texas gulf coast over the weekend high winds and drenching rain knocked out power to the region which is dealing with a surge in coronavirus cases. City officials in Corpus Christi say there were no fatalities from the storm. Hurricane douglas brushes hawaii bringing with it heavy rain and strong winds the core of the system just missed the islands without making landfall but the heavy rain did cause a lot of flooding on the roadways there. All hurricane warnings have since been canceled and with that we get over to steve think earlier but its been a quiet season i guess when it comes to hurricanes so far. At least in the pacific, mike. The atlantic is already up to 8 i think. Theyve had a little bit more. But remember theres a lot of that dust coming across the sierra that put a cap on things but august and september things will pick up. The pacific has been quiet. Typhoons have been really quiet. The water is cooler in a lot of those locations. Going back for hanna it went in at 5 00 saturday at pad rae island with wind 90 Miles Per Hour. There were 6 to 10inch amounts and immediately got downgraded to a tropical storm. Now its rotating a tropical depression into mexico. 200,000 people lost power but it is since cloudy skies and isolated thunderstorms. Yes douglas did make it to the Hawaiian Islands just barely missing it. About 30 miles or so south and it would have clipped right along all the islands but as the case was it just kind of missed it. I was looking at observations yesterday and i saw about 40 to 45 Miles Per Hour gusts. Really kiebd of missed them. You have to remember in the vastness of the pacific for a hurricane to hit the tiny little Hawaiian Islands. It does happen but a lot of these either go south. This one thankfully went north and all of the warnings have been canceled. Still a category one moving north of the islands. Dave clark asked a good question earlier. Can some of these come by and visit us when they fall apart. Yes it does happen. It has happened. Weve seen typhoons do that but its a rarity. Usually happens in september and october. I cant remember it ever happening in july or august that i have to go back but its still now moved past the islands. The all safe sign is out now and down in the texas gulf coast for now. For us thunderstorms popping up over the mountains no duty about it and in fact for those who maybe want to go up its a pretty Good Opportunity for some. Mostly those are confined at the Higher Elevations but three yearold boy have been reports of golf ball sized hail in some of these isolated cells and looks pretty good. Some of the convective area of energy is pretty high for us. Along the area still 55 north, northwest at 4. Stuck in the gray about 66 to 67 today. Liver more already sunny and 64. Theyll be about 90. Average this time of year is 89 or 90. Travis picking up on the breeze. 24 gust to 31. Thats pretty good. No doubt about it difference now between fairfield and st. Vacaville. There wasnt earlier. Vacaville was 102, fairfield 93. While still hot not far apart but a significant difference. Low to the north and that high showing signs drifting back towards us towards the end of the week. Recent Church Wedding in San Francisco may have violated the Health Orders for large gatherings and according to the San Francisco chronicle the bride, the groom and at least 8 guests contracted the coronavirus. The chronicle says the unnamed couple planned their wedding at st. Peter and paul church in north beach and invited 80 guests who walked through a rear door of the church. When the city official showed up at the church the wedding was moved outside and the guests watched remotely on zoom. San Francisco Health borders bans these kind of events and city officials had warned the church not to allow weddings. With the covid19 pandemic putting a halt to large gatherings many couples are wondering what to do about their wedding date to make with a smaller guest list lets talk to amy nichols and shes at the special event and intimate i dos. Thank you for joining us. I went back and thought about my wedding. We had about 120 people. Everything was all set weeks in advance. Maybe even months in advance. W do you pivot so quickly not lose all of your money and not have the bribe bride be very upset . Sure. Thats a great question. Lets go ahead and unpack that. In terms of how do you go about pivoting first and foremost i think the biggest question is how far out was your original wedding date plans. If your wedding date is still a year out you have a little bit of time. If your wedding was next month or sometime next fall now is the time to start thinking about what you want to do. There are a few options for every couple to think about. You could cancel. You could postpone or you could down size. For the most part we are not seeing couples cancel. Most couples are either postponing their wedding to 2021 or at this point 2022 or down sizing by hosting a micro wedding. So amy do you think that people can have a wedding for example go to the courthouse or too itget the official thing done and then have a party when you can later on a big party not on the same day as the wedding. Absolutely and thats something that we are withim a Founding Member of the Small Wedding Society and thats something that we are absolutely doing is were encouraging couples to marry now and celebrate later so you can have that small ceremony thats perhaps an elopement just you and your fiance or it could be a micro wedding with fewer than 30 guests or perhaps its just your siblings, parents, immediate family and then later when its safer and when were no longer social distancing and hopefully coronavirus is a distant memory you can have that larger party with dancing and lots of hugs. Quaimy do you think weddings will ever be the same . Maybe a year from now were not in the pandemic but people could still get sick and you know weddings you have people, older people coming from the family. W long do you honestly think we could have the weddings where there are 200 people. Theres a d. J. You know what im talking about. When are we going to have those weddings back . I think, sal, realizeically we arent looking to see those or were looking to see those in 2022. I do not think in 2021 that you are going to see the return of crowded sweaty danc ready to celebrate and obviously honor their love and really have to keep social distancing and the guidelines that have been given to us at the forefront. We need to stay safe. We need to protect our elders and theres certainly ways to do that by having a small intimate and so meaningful celebration. But hold off on the big parties and the big celebrations until its safe to do so. Some people have been doing unusual things getting married at the zoo, getting married at. At the zoo. Right . Not zoo im sorry, zoom weddings is what i think. [laughter]. Okay. Lets do this again. Getting married online. First of all i wouldnt do it. I wouldnt get married on zoom. Im sorry. I would just not do that but some people are doing it. So in terms of getting married over zoom thats a personal choice. You and your fiance are going to know thats something you see yourself doing. I could not do it but if your personal situation is such that soon to be deployed and family members that are not in the state then getting married over zoom makes the most sense. You might have a legal reason you need to get married asap but really thats a personal choice and there are options other than zoom for couples to consider but zoom is they want to get for traditional reasons get married before they have kids they having a small wedding and doesnt mean you cant have a larger celebration later. All right. Amy nichols this is an unusual time. I know a lot of people have been asking you what to do and basically i guess do what feels right for you, correct . Absolutely. And thats where i would highly recommend working with a seasoned professional whether thats a wedding planner, photographer, talk to your venue but really rely on professionals. Theyll be able to help you and guide you through this process because its really unprecedented and were here to support you. All right amy thank you for yue us right here on mornings on 2.
