Well, the United States ordered china to close down its consulate in houston, texas, and today is secretary of state mike pompeo said the reason was to protect national security. We have more now on the rising tensions between the two countries. Good morning, ali. Good morning. Well, chinas spokes spend the decision was unjustified and outrageous. This decision came yesterday afternoon, and shortly afterwards, there was a fire reported in the courtyard of that building in houston. Witnesses told firefighters they could see people burning what looked like paper and trash cans in the courtyard. The u. S. State department did not provide much details in its decision to close the chinese consulate, saying it was only to quote protect American Intellectual property and americans private information. Existing tenses continue over the u. S. And china on things like oil drilling in the pacific, and how covid19 started and spread across the globe. And two chinese hearings were recently accused of trying to steal information on a Coronavirus Vaccine from u. S. Companies. Here is what mike pompeo had to say this morning. We hope we can build out a coalition that understands this threat and will work collect to live convince the Chinese Communist party its not okay to engage in this type of behavior. But some say ordering an spire consulate to shut down in a matter of days is a rather and extreme move, and also a blow to u. S. China relation. People who work at that consulate have until friday to warn the building. China has said there will be reverse Counter Measures if the u. S. Doesnt change its decision. San mateo is the only bay area county not on the States Coronavirus watch list, and officials are lobbying the state to keep off the list. Right now san mateo hair salons, barbershops, gyms, and worship centers, can stay open, but many people believe that may change before the week is over. Thats because the state has a guideline of fewer than 100 new cases per day for every 100,000 people in the county. San mateo has been over 100 for the past several days. There has to be a balanced approach. I think the path that the county is seeking to take is that its the right way to go about it. The county leaders hope they can stay off that watch list, because of the actions theyve recently taken to reduce the infection rate, including an emergency order that requires facial coverings, social distancing, and the possibility of being fined for violating those rules. It is 7 37. Congressional leaders and white house negotiators constitute working on the next Coronavirus Relief bill. They also want Legal Protection for businesses that could be sued for covid19 exposures. I wont put a bill on the floor that doesnt have Liability Protection in it. Now, the price tag is another big sticking point. The white house has pushed for 1 trillion in aid. House democrats already passed a bill with 3 trillion. All sides say they want to come up with a compromise bill by the end of next week. Firefighters in northeastern california are working aggressively to get an upper hand on the hog fire, which is burning. The fire has burned through more than 14 square miles. It is only 7 contained. Thats because the state has a guideline of fewer than 100 new cases per day, for every 100,000 people in the county. San mateo has been above 100 for the past several days now. San franciscos department of policeabilitiability has finished its internal investigation into the raid on a journalists home right there in San Francisco. This happened more than a year ago, when police broke down the door of credentialed journalist bryan carmody, trying to find his confidential source. The raid was illegal under california shield law, and a recent ktvu investigation found that orders to carry it out went as high as the Chiefs Office. Mayor london breed joining us live this morning to discuss this and some of the other items facing the city. Good morning to you, mayor. Good morning, mike. Thanks for being with us. Let me ask yoright off the top. Have you seen or been briefed on the investigation and the findings of this report . Just to be clear, this does involve a personnel issue, so unfortunately i cant discuss the details about this particular case. What ive said time and time again is as soon as we are able to provide information to the public about what happened, we will do so at that time. Can you at least say that youve seen the report, or youve been briefed on it . Ly as soon as im able to make anything public, im happy to share that information. Now, we as a station, we understand, as soon as this was done, we asked the Chiefs Office for the report, you know, the chief office has always talked about transparency, and you yourself have talked about transparency. We were told we could have not it. Are you going to push the chief office to make sure we as an Organization Get this report, so we can get into it . Saying this is a coverup. Well, i want to be clear. As far as were concerned, whenever we have an opportunity to provide information to the public, we coordinate with our city attorneys office. We coordinate to understand what we can and cant release to the public. And ive made it clear from the very beginning when i pushed for this independent investigation by the department of the Police Accountability, as soon as we are able, because, unfortunately, it does involve a personal issue, which is a whole other state law challenge, but i do think that has much information as we can make available to the public, i want to do that as quickly as we possibly can. So i just want to be clear, this is not about a coverup, as far as im concerned. This is about making sure that we are doing this by the book and having the department of Police Accountability do the investigation, the investigation has been completed, and the goal is to go through the process now, and whatever we can make available, thats what we will do to the public, as soon as we can. So it sounds like we have your word that you are going to push for its release . I want to be clear, im going to push what we can do according to the law. If the law allows us to release the report, i will release that report in a heart beat. But we have to follow our state law, because this does involve a personnel issue. So weve got to be very careful about that, as well as making sure that we honor the spirit of the shield law. Its a lot more complicated than what youre projecting here now. Okay. I got it. Lets move on. I want to talk about what Governor Newsom discussed on friday, and that was the majority of students in california will not get in person classroom learning. You know, its going to be Distance Learning here. My question to you, mayor, is do you agree with what the governor said . To me i feel like maybe mayors can make that call. Theres a lawsuit from parents against the state on that order. Why cant you make that decision, because im sure you have confidence in a lot of schools out there in your city that can provide inclass learning and not just Distance Learning, maybe its a little mixture, but dont you feel es, there is an independent elected school board charged with making desch in San Francisco. We do Work Together, and part of what we are doing is what we are able to do. We are planning on opening learning hubs and working with the community and working with the School District to provide alternatives. As far as im concerned, you know, i want any of us would love to see the schools reopen. We want kids to get back to school, get back to playing with each other and learning and all of the things that they need to grow and develop. But part of the challenge that we have is we have not, sadly, flattened this curve. Weve things get worse, and we all have to do our part. This is so frustrating for so many parents, and we have to Work Together in order to make the best decisions these kids. Nothing would make me more happier than to get these schools open and to get these kids back to school, but it all requires us to do our part. Youre having a News Conference later today . Is that correct . Yes. Did we lose the mayor there . You cant hear me . No, ive got you. I was wondering do you have a News Conference later today, right . Yes, were average News Conference later today, and we want to talk about, crown, the plans around homeless conditions and the plan that i released yesterday, whats happening as it relates to the numbers and the coronavirus, and what we need to do. The pause on our reopening efforts. So its a lot going on. Lot going on, and we know youre busy, isal a c always, meyers, appreciate your time. Thank you for joining us, and well catch up with you later at that News Conference today. Thank you, mayor. Thank you. 8 53. Lets see what the morning commute look like.
