You can see traffic is going to be moving along okay and its going to take about 17 minute to drive between the carquinez bridge and mcarthur maze. We dont have a big back upat the toll plaza but it may appear. You can see the traffic is moving well. Its 6 01. Now back to the headlines. All right california right now, has close to 400,000 coronavirus cases. More than 386,000 cases are reported and more than 7700 people died. More than 41,000 virus cases are reported in the bay area. 7100 people have died from the virus. California Hospital HealthOfficials Say 6900 patienting are treated for covid19. 1900 of them are in intensive care. Statewide, sevenday average of 9100 new cases per day is reported. Thats up from around 8600 in the 7day period before that. Well, in less than an hour from right now, almost 700 essential workers at a hospital in santa rosa are going on strike. The workers at Memorial Hospital say the contract ran out a year ago but they are fighting for pay raises, better benefits, and now, more protection against covid19. The strike was originally set for february. But it was delayed because of the pandemic. Some of the hospital workers say they are at risk cleaning rooms without personal protective equipment. Nursing assistants respiratory therapist and dietary tech anythings are going on strike. I love my patients and what i do. I am called to do what i do but i cant keep doing it under these circumstances. Its mentally draining to be be a housekeeper at this hospital right now. And i am so scared for my coworkers as well. Hospital Officials Say we are deeply disappointed by the strike. And as covid cases rise in Sonoma County we continue to be prepared for the worst Case Scenario replacement workers will be brought in to keep the hospitals emergency room open. Happening today indoor malls in San Francisco will have to shut down again because of a surge in cases and hospitalizations. And Health Officials are also expected to announce a new health order today that will expand coronavirus testing. Ktvu Sara Zendehnam joins us now with details. Good morning. Reporter good morning, pam. Stonestown galleria and westfield San Francisco center opened last month after shutting down in march. And now they are closed once again. Thats because San Francisco is now on californias coronavirus watch list. And an increase in hospitalizations put the city in the spot. So now they have to follow state restrictions which says indoor malls and nonessential offices have to shut down or limit indoor operations. Mall stores with outside entrans and offices doing minimum basic operations can stay opened. Restaurant can only serve people outdoors and for take out. Mayor breed says to expect the tightened restrictions to be around until the spread of the virus slows down. And if it gets worse, they will take the shut downs further. City Officials Say many cases of coronavirus can be blamed on family and friends getting together in groups. So they ask you limit gatherings and wear a mask. We spoke to a man in San Francisco who has advice for others. Social distance and try to stay away and wear your mask. Theres no reason not to. Reporter as for the new health order expected to be issued today, official say the city is meeting testing goals but its taking longer for people to get appointments and rums. The health order will require private Health Care Providers to make same day Testing Available for patient who is had close contact with coronavirus cases or have symptoms. Private hospitals and clinics will also have to test asymptomatic front line workers. Last week San Francisco added a new testing site at the health center. Reporting live Sara Zendehnam, ktvu2 fox news. Happening today, Governor Newsom will update reporters on the states response to the coronavirus pandemic. The governors expected to explain the next possible steps california could take as the number of total infections jumped by more than 60,000 in a week. The governor could also talk about the pressure to reopen schools. The New York Times reports Governor Newsom was told that he would have to a personally ask for and then thank President Trump if he wanted federal help obtaining coronavirus test swabs. Time says the governor made the call in april and also publicly praised the president for his help during the News Conference later that same day. The times article published was the president s response to the pandemic and complex bities of getting help from washington. More people are trying to pressure Governor Newsom to reopen california. About 60 people held a rally outside of the State Capitol yesterday. Some say they need to be allowed to on the businesses which are endanger of shutting down permanently. Others say social restrictions should be loosened so the businesses which are opened can survive financially. Now the rally organizer also wants to see students in the classrooms in the fall, Chelsea Adams says her 6yearold and 2 yearold sons have autism and cant get what they need unless they are with the teachers. One size doesnt fit all and the kid with autism need to be in person with the teacher reading hughes from facial expression. Now the people at the rally say they wont give up on their cause and promisesed to be back at the State Capitol again next weekend. Time is now 6 07. The fda gave the okay for pool testing for covid19 to let as many as 4 people be tested at one time speeding up test result times. Fda says an emergency use authorization lets quest use the covid19 test with pooled samples. Samples from 4 people tested at the same time using one test. Now if the pool test positive, it means one or more of the people tested in that pool may have the coronavirus. Each sample would then have to be tested again individually. The British Drug Company is planning a controversial test for its Coronavirus Vaccine candidate. And they want a human challenge trial. Researchers deliberately infect a test subject with the virus. It is done with proven vaccines but in this case, theres no known cure for the coronavirus. They say the trial will be carried out on a Healthy People in their 20s so the risk would be relatively low. Cal fire has new tool to fight wild fires. Its the first of the fire hawks helicopters. Now in service. And it has the capacity to drop 1,000 gallons of water on a fire in matter of seconds. The old helicopters could hold about 300 gallons of water at a time. They can fly at speeds up to 150 miles per hour. And this is the first of several new helicopters cal fire has invested this for the fire season. Pam thank you. Time is 6 09. Police in new jersey searching for a gunman after the son of a federal judge was killed at their family home and the judges husband was shot several times. Police in North Brunswick says someone showed up at the door of judge esther salas dressed as a fed ex delivery person. The gunman started to shoot her husband and son answered the door. The family was wellknown and liked in the area. Wonderful people. Very, very good natured. And, of course, extremely bright. The judge salas reportedly was in the basement when the shooting started. She was not hurt. Her son daniel was a student at Catholic University of america. Her husband is a criminal defense lawyer. The fbi and u. S. Marshals are joining the investigation to find that shooter. Happening today, social Justice Groups and labor unions are holding a strike for black lives. Now tens of thousands of workers and 25 cities including oakland and San Francisco, are expected to participate in a national walkout. Organizers say one of the most powerful actions workers can take is to go on strike. They say the demand in the strike is justice for black communities. They want corporations to take action to dismantel racism and economic exploitation as well as the fight for every worker to form or join a union. Also happening today, the labor group one fair wages is encouraging workers who earn tips to joint strike for black lives. The Organization Says tipped workers will join the demonstrations in oakland and four other u. S. Cities today. One fair wage will release new research on how workers who earn tips are discriminated against. Employers dont have to pay those workers the minimum wage which the group says is a carry over from the time just after the civil war when former slaves were new to the labor market. Protesters held a rally and march in San Francisco this we be nd to demand the city abolish the Current Police department. Yesterdays demonstration was organized by a group called every 28 foundation. That name comes from the person of color they say dies every 28 hours in the u. S. At the hands of policech the group plans to go to every neighborhood in San Francisco and their campaign to disband the citys police department. We are going to be here until our voices are heard and until real change is made. If that means we continue until we put it to the people with a ballot measure, thats what we are going to do. And San Francisco officials taking action after several collisions involving skateboarders near the delores park. They installed the speed bumps and they are popular to skaters. One bicyclist is in the hospital with lifethreatening injuries after a crash that involved a skateboarder who suffered less serious injuries. The head of San Francisco muni says he likes the skateboard culture, but hated to have to install the speed bumps. He says he is working with skaters to make that street safer for every body. They are at santa rosa Memorial Hospital. Ktvu allie rasmus is here to tell us why a fiveday strike has just begun. Good morning, allie. Reporter good morning, dave. Yes. The dispute is over things Like Health Care premiums, pay and paid time off. And in fact right now, we have a live picture we want to show you outside santa rosa in moral hospital with the pick lines. You can see this all started about a half an hour ago when the strike fiveday strike officially started. And you can see and hear some of the workers carrying signs. They are spread out across the santa rosa Memorial Hospital grounds which spans a half a block. Workers on strike including nursing assistants, respiratory therapist, dietary aides, housekeepers and medical technicians. Its about 700 essential workers overall who will begin a fiveday strike. They have been without an account for over a year. Negotiations between the Union Representing them and Memorial Hospital management have broken down. Federal mediators have been brought in. Workers were initially supposed to get on strike back in february, and they postponed it because of the pandemic. But now nearly 6 months later, workers say things have not improved. Right now in my department, six people have gone homesick. We havent been given what we need. And the hospital doesnt care. They are here to make money. Regional level 2 trauma center, and we have old and outdated equipment. We have outdated ventilators and we have iv poles that are not functional. Reporter Memorial Management said they are disappoint by the strike and as covid cases cruise, they continue to be prepared for the worst Case Scenario. The statement says that it believes the offer to the workers is generous and says these are extremely challenging times and environment for hospitals. The corporate parent of Memorial Hospital providence, received a half a billion dollars in covid stimulus. The hospital says it will be bringing in replacement workers to keep its Emergency Department opened. Santa rosa memorial is the north bays only trauma center. Nurses have no strike clause in the contract and they are not on the picket lines. But they will cross the expect loins to go to work for the regular shift but will be allowed to stand in solidarity at the expect lines after the work shifts are over. San francisco has paused reopening plans after a surge in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations put the city on the state watch list. Now later today, a new health order is due to be issued to put some restrictions back in place and to make testing more available. The new guidelines will require closing of indoor malls and nonessential offices in San Francisco. According to the San Francisco joint information center, many of the citys new virus cases are due to family and friends getting together in groups. Thats called stupid. Real stupid and thats how it spread. I dont agree with the large groups because i it just is not very healthy. I mean, maybe 2 or 3 people, and maybe those people should be in the same home. Mayor breed says restrictions wont be lifted until the spread of the virus slows down. Health official say if they cant get a handle on the spreading virus they will go beyond the states restrictionance close even more businesses and activities. Hairstylists and bashers are fighting to stay in business and work outside. The agency that issues licenses to hairstylists barbers say its looking at allowing some services to be performed outside of a salon. An announcement about outdoor personal Care Services is expected in the next few days. Religious leaders gathered to support inmates at san quentin prison. The Interfaith Movement for human integrity held a vigil to remember those who died from the coronavirus. They are calling on the California Department of corrects and Governor Newsom to improve prison conditions, including improved medical care, more testing and clean facilities. And they want the most vulnerable inmates to be release to family members and Community Based reentry programs. There are 945 i mates at san quentin battle the virus including 410 new cases in the last two weeks. The virus has taken the lives of 12 inmates. Prison official say 250 Health Care Workers are at san quentin to help. More cleaning is happening and inmates are confined to their cells. Our time is 6 37. Starting today, mainly retail chains are putting in place no mask no service rule at all of the stores in the u. S. Walmart, sams club, kohls cvs, walgreens, target, home depot and lowes will all require customers and employees to wear a maximum before coming through the front doors. Many stores are offering curbside pick up. With coronavirus cases rising around the country, there are growing calls for National Mandate for facial coverings. The cdc says if everyone wore a mask for 4 to 6 weeks we could get the virus under control. The president will not impose a nationwide face mask mandate. Increasesly, whether or not to wear a mask is a hot issue. I dont like these things anymore than anyone else. But its the right thing to do. And it helps our businesses stay opened. Now the next debate over face masks is expected when schools reopen and the decision will have to be made on whether require students to wear a facial covering. The cliff house has been losing a lot of money since it shutdown back in march and recently was offering takeout food only. We have been doing it for 4 to 6 weeks now and financially it just makes no sense. Back in 1918 the cliff house managed to stay in business during the last global pandemic.
